    The Old Dragonslayer [Leonard/Leon] QDKqYn3

Sometimes things that fall apart are actually falling into place

Battles in this land were really something else. A lot must've happened in the last year Leon had been in Fiore, but he hadn't ever really paid attention to that sort of stuff. He was too busy busting his ass trying to keep his head above water to care about the latest hubbub around the nation, but sometimes he'd read about this kind of stuff in the magazine. He'd heard about the attack on Fairy Tail in the news, and Percy mentioned it during their reunion at the Singles Night, but seeing the damage in person was a reality check on a completely different level.

As Leon ambled through the streets of Magnolia Town, a baseball cap snug on his head and a well-fitted black tracksuit on his body, he'd often find himself stopping to gawk at the damage and debris. Buildings were completely torn apart, and there were still heaps of rubble lying on the street—reconstruction was still at large. It was kind of hard to believe that this stuff was sort of commonplace here, but he was fortunate enough to have a pretty peaceful year as far as that was concerned. But even that was fleeting. Ever since he started working for Percy, Leon found himself getting mixed into all kinds of trouble on and off the clock. He had gotten some brand new scars thanks to some touchy encounters with mobs, and even though the training he was receiving and the equipment had access to was top-notch, it still felt like Leon was lacking. Like he could be doing more.

He had heard about this old man who was seen fighting the dragon that had leveled the Fairy Tail guild hall, holding his own against that terrific beast, his hair silver like a blade and movements meaningful like a bloodthirsty swan... or so the rumors said. Leon didn't really know if any of that was true, but he came here to find out. The assistant wanted to reach out beyond Percy's mentorship and acquire a skill set he hadn't thought of before. Something he could maybe use to help himself and the others he just seems to come across along the way. And besides, it couldn't hurt to bring some new moves back to Bellum, right? If he was going to wait here in Fiore, it wasn't a bad idea to learn a new trick or two.

That sounds nice, but... Leon droned on in his head, looking up from the magazine he was holding back to the busy street he was standing in the middle of. Hell, he didn't even know the guy's name, let alone where to find him. He might've gotten ahead of himself by coming here on a whim, or thinking it'd just be a day trip. Leon sighed, placing a hand on his shoulder as he leaned back to stare into the sky, "Where should I even start?..."

Magnolia. Once again it faced such a calamity that though there would be details that would be changed, it was all the same. Invasion. It felt like being in the old days once more, more so with the involvement of a dragon. Yet, times have indeed changed, despite the glaring constant invasion problem the city faced. This time, they were more prepared as it were. More hopeful. Lesser bodies placed inside bags strewn the paths at its aftermath, and a plans for rebuilding were being followed. Indeed, things have come a long way, and what was better is that even though he had told these people who Leo was, they didn't seem too fixed by it, nor has it borne any repercussions. Still, it was too early to tell and he must keep his guard up for the memories of his past may haunt him some other time.

All of these ran through Leo's mind as he pushed a wheelbarrow along what little remained of Magnolia's roads. They were a fresh supply of quarried stone and wood that will be used in the reconstruction effort. Specifically that of the guild's hall. He even heard rumors of the design being something that were somewhat familiar to his eyes. This naturally sparked intrigue in the old man. One cannot help but feel nostalgic in the whole affair after all. Magnolia attacked because of Fairy Tail, hall destroyed, and now being rebuilt. It placed a certain skip and speed in the man's step when he would have otherwise kept it slow and discrete. But despite that, he still had his hood on, perhaps symbolizing that he has not forgotten his place, and what dangers the name Leonard Dragonbane could pose to his loved ones. Especially that of his daughter, Lina. But thanks to the absurd national broadcast of a seemingly undead biased broadcaster, Leo's involvement might have been known as he had displayed a style he had devised for people who simply had a sword to everything Earthland had. And it had a lot. From deceptively cunning Vulcans, Dark Mages whose power bends the fabrics of reality and space, Dragon and Demons, Leo's Bladestorm somehow stood out.

Bladestorm, not to be confused with the Requip he possessed of the same name, was a style first used against a dragon, leading credence to the name he had chosen for himself. It demonstrated both strength and agility as it involved numerous dodges and parries, that would be complimented by a staggering force with a equally staggeringly heavy blade as the offensive conclusion of one's defensive movement.  The old man was evidently fond of recalling his way of fighting, and was somehow thankful for the opportunity to utilize it in full, but not at the cost it bore. He had begun to wonder if people would be interested to learn it after having seen it or even heard of it after the battle. However, on the other hand, if he attracts a soul, who knows how many more are out there that are also attracted? And how could he ascertain their intentions with it? But alas, these are musing for another time. For if some of the people of Magnolia themselves are not interested, what more the rest of the country?

Returning to reality, Leo continued on the path that was from the port of Magnolia for numerous ships have sent supplies and humanitarian aid in order to hasten the recovery of the city. Ships would come and go as fast as they have arrived no doubt to bring the next batch of aid for Magnolia. It was all impressive really. Certainly more fluid and quick than when the city was attacked the first two times. On his way, stood a man clearly not of the city. For in the sea of moving people, wanting to get their lives back on track, why would you stand idly by? Especially since, from Leo have seen from his body structure, the presence he sensed, he was no ordinary man. Curiously, Leo continued along however shifting to be a bit closer to the man so as to have an excuse to see him. He pushed the wheelbarrow along and when he got near, he called out to the man "On your left, son." in a tone that was a bit weary and unsuspecting. Should Leo be allowed to pass through he'd turn his head back and look up to the man's eyes. He's simply lost. he thought to himself however, not forgetting his manners, he'd bow his head ever so slightly and say "Thank you."

Sometimes things that fall apart are actually falling into place

Spacing out in the middle of a busy street probably wasn't the best place to do it, because no sooner had he started was he confronted by the weary voice of an old man.

"Huh? Oh, right..." Leon perked up and glanced behind him, where a hooded man pushing a wheelbarrow continued to haul his items past him. It was hard to get a good look at his face, but he was definitely an older man judging by the grit in his voice and the wear on his visible skin. His marigolds drifted to the firm grip the man had on the wheelbarrow, and before he knew it, Leon was already too distracted by all of the manual labor surrounding him to focus on what he actually came here for. Inevitably, he was itching to help. "Do you... need some help with that?"

With an appearance like his, Leon ended up being more socially awkward than he actually was. He had thick, furrowed eyebrows that seemed to be stuck that way, and his sharp marigold eyes almost gave him the air of a wolf or a lion of some sort. He was tall, muscular, and had a deep voice. To top it all off, there were a couple of profound scars stretching diagonally across one side of his face—the guy was the image of a ruffian, as far as most people were concerned. As a result, he tried to be more tactful and soft-spoken, but that only got him so far. Right now, the young man just wanted to help relieve the city's hardships, even if it meant by pushing a wheelbarrow.

Interesting. The visitor, appearing clueless as he was, had an appearance that Leo had seen numerous times. Warrior types. But more importantly, he had what Leo thought to be a warrior's heart. The nobility and kindness to help a seemingly old man with their hard labor. It felt like the start of every movie about a person seeking training with an ancient master back in Midi. The prospect, however hilarious, was farfetched to Leo. Those only happened in movies he thought. Regardless, he had a smile on his face because of it. The thought of the old defenseless man is surprisingly the man that can kick his ass with one hand behind him. With a slight bow and a further smile, Leo let the man push the wheelbarrow full of supplies while he stayed ahead of them to lead them to where their destination was going to be. On their way to the construction site, Leo asked the man gently and politely "So, what brings you here, traveler? Hopefully not glory, fame and riches because-" he paused to gesture a wave all around the area, as if telling him to take a gander at their surroundings, to witness was has already transpired, the death and sorrow that comes after what most adventurers seek, but also the hope and perseverance. "-You're already too late." he continued, a bit colder than before. As if already judged him as unworthy if that what he was after. That was besides the point that these people have, again suffered - a fact that cannot be stressed enough - and someone is already here to somehow some way take advantage of it. Of course, Leo would listen to the man's intentions. Whether he says his true intentions or not, Leo will take it at face value, or appear to do so. How you say it does affect what you mean after all. And depending on his answer, Leo will either help him or put him off once they reach the site of the new Fairy Tail guild hall.

Sometimes things that fall apart are actually falling into place

When the old man pulled away from the wheelbarrow, Leon was quick to take his place at the rear, pushing it along the path the old man guided them down. It was a melancholy stroll. When Leon thought of Magnolia Town, he thought of a bustling city where many champions of Ishgar—Wizard Saints—come to do their bidding. If Crocus weren't the capital, this place was probably next in line. It was lively, vibrant, and rich in history, but the longer the pair walked down the cobbled path, the more that idea felt like a memory.

On their way to their destination, the old man curiously began to ask about him. Was it really that obvious that he wasn't from around here? Leon almost flinched at the comment, wondering if he was standing out too much. He spoke of things like glory, fame, and riches as he continued his query, but before Leon could answer, he said he was too late.

The atmosphere felt a little different after he said that. Leon was listlessly pushing the wheelbarrow, his eyes falling to the ground as his mind clouded with thought. He didn't come all this way for any one of those things, and yet a pang of guilt washed over him. Silence filled the space between the old man and Leon for a few moments, as the sound of hammers against nails and wooden boards clapping against each other surrounded them like an ocean.

"I'm looking for an old dragon slayer. I heard about what he did during the attack, and I... thought I could learn something from him," said Leon, his words long and deep as his thoughts trickled down to his tongue. Seeing all of this destruction made his heart pound, like a fire flickering inside of his heart. Suddenly, his grip on the wheelbarrow tightened as he looked forward, that wolfish look in his bold eyes returning. "And I think I'd really regret it if I didn't at least try to find him."

Leon was a man of hard work and determination, so words weren't really his area of expertise. He did his best to describe how he felt, but more often than not, just one look in his eyes delivered his message clearly enough.

There was a pause long enough for Leo to know what the pause was for. He chuckled really. Continuing to be impressed at how seemingly pure the man's intentions were so far. And so, their little stroll continued. But as it did, the scenery would improve. Little by little, the theme of such sights would that be of hope and and happiness, for people will live for another day. The scenes were mostly nearby their destination, the construction site for Fairy Tail's new guild hall. It was at this moment that the man would impart why he was here. A bit sensible now that Leo thought about it, a wandering warrior seeking to further his training is definitely one of the things he looked like when he first saw him. But the kind of knowledge or strength he sought was magic? Funny, he looked like a swordsman to him but then again, never judge a book by its cover as they say.

"If it's Dragonslayer Magic you seek in Magnolia, there's no better place to start but here in Fairy Tail." he replied as he took one final step and waved his hand up as if to gesture that this is what Fairy Tail is as the moment. Men and women both magical and not using their skills to construct a building that would house mages. Wooden planks and pillars along with stone foundations were being placed so as to make the skeleton of the hall. People riding up and down on the pullies with the building materials required while others simply levitated or teleported. He turned around to face the man that had helped him, even lifting his head up so as his face is a bit clearer. A smile crawling out of the white beard he possessed to show his gratitude. "I hope you find what you're looking for here. Many great and talented mages call this place home. And as thanks, I'll help you find the person you seek." he replied calmly and gently, or rather this is as happy of a reply Leo will show. He then approached the man with an extended arm for a gentlemanly handshake, fitting for two men. "Thank you again for help, Mr. uh...?" he said. Trailing off a bit in the end so as to give the marigold eyed man a chance to introduce himself.
