Name: Cuthbert Rumbold
Gender: Male
Age: 56
Birthday: June 23rd
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Special Characteristics: Cuthbert has a long, scraggly beard that is so thick it can be realistically wondered whether or not there are small birds or animals living in it. He is also rather solid with enormous, gnarled hands. His nose is bulbous and red.
Personality: "Doddering" is a term often used to describe Cuthbert. "Absent-minded", "cloud-headed", and "silly" are also descriptors that are often ascribed to the old man, mostly by his sisters, who know him best. He is shy, and definitely socially awkward. While he is awkward around most anyone, Cuthbert is especially nervous and uncomfortable around women, considering that he hasn't spent much time with any of the fairer sex aside from his five sisters, who mercilessly henpeck him. He tends to stutter a bit when nervous, which only serves to make him more nervous.
Despite his outward appearance, Cuthbert can be surprisingly shrewd at times when the proper situation arises, indicating that he is not as much of a doddering old fool as he appears. Then again, even a broken clock is right twice a day, as the saying goes...
Cuthbert is not at all interested in much of anything besides the pursuit of his magic and the pursuit of worldly pleasures such as good food and drink. He is more than a bit of a coward, despite the fact that his pursuit of magic can often put him in danger. The old gentleman isn't really the most reliable in a fight, as his first inclination is to hide behind something as soon as any trouble starts, but he does respond to strong leadership and shouting.
He is a quiet, bookish sort, even if he doesn't necessarily look like it on first glance. Cuthbert can easily get lost in his studies, and when he is focused on something it can be incredibly difficult to keep his attention focused on anything else. This trait carries over into every other aspect of his life, and it is exceedingly difficult to get him to even notice something that hasn't captured his interest--even when someone is trying quite hard to get him to do so.
Likes:
Food and Drink - One of Cuthbert's favorite pastimes is sitting down in front of a roaring fire and tucking in to a large meal of rich food, followed by copious amounts of beer and port.
His Elementals - The socially-awkward wizard's closest friends are the elementals he's made contracts with and summons to his side. He likes nothing better than seeking out new and exotic elemental creatures and befriending them.
His Pipe - Second to good food and drink, Cuthbert's favorite indulgence is a good smoke from his pipe. He considers himself quite good at smoke rings, and can spend a lot of time sending the little hazy hoops up to play amongst the rafters of his home.
Small Curiosities - Cuthbert is forever picking up small objects that catch his eye. Nothing necessarily of value, but of interest to the old wizard. Pinecones, sea shells, small pewter figures, the skulls of rodents or other small animals, beads...anything really. He's been collecting them since he was a boy, and has them strung from his belt or secreted away in one of the many pouches.
Dislikes:
Cold and Damp - Cuthbert prefers to be warm and comfortable, and especially hates the cold because it "makes his joints creak". The fact that his magical pursuits often put him out in the cold isn't lost on him, but he hasn't given up on it yet.
His First Name- Cuthbert hates his name, given to him by his mother in honor of her grandfather, and doesn't like it at all when people use it. He much prefers to be called Master Rumbold.
Responsibility - The old man doesn't like to focus on much of anything besides his magical pursuits and studies. Daily chores (cleaning the house, trimming his beard, ensuring that his socks match) are completely disregarded by him in favor of his elementalism.
Motivations:
Accumulating More Elementals - This is Cuthbert's prime motivation. Meeting new elementals and persuading them to allow him to harness their power is his passion. Such an overriding passion is it, that it compels him to leave his comfy home to travel the cold uncomfortable world and put himself in dangerous situations despite being an abject coward.
The Desire to be Left to His Own Devices - Another motivation that drives him out into the world, apart of his pursuit of elemental contracts, is his desire to be out and away from the overpowering influence of his sisters, who are forever harassing him in an attempt to change his foolish and slovenly ways and turn his attention to running the family's affairs.
New Food and Drink - To a lesser extent, Cuthbert enjoys sampling the exotic cuisine he encounters as he travels in search of new magic. It certainly livens things up, even if it can lead to mishaps here and there when he eats something that doesn't agree with him...
Fears:
Everything Outside His Front Door - Cuthbert can easily be described as a coward. He has very little experience outside his own home, and is unnerved and frightened by most things from his neighbor's uncommonly aggressive chickens to the children he encounters on the street with grubby hands and runny noses who are probably carrying the plague for all he knows.
His Sisters - More than anything, Cuthbert lives in fear of his sisters, particularly his eldest sister Esme. While all of his siblings have strong, overbearing personalities, Esme could make a dragon bow to her will by simply staring sternly at it. They all strongly disapprove of him and his life choices, and they aren't shy about voicing it.
Illness - Cuthbert is a bit of a hypochondriac, and the idea of catching some terrible disease terrifies him.
General Appearance
Height: 5'9" or 175.3 cm
Weight: 193 lbs or 87.5 kg
Hair Color: In his youth it was brown, but now there is also a great deal of white running through it.
Eye Color: A watery, pale blue.
Skin Tone: Pale.
Appearance: Cuthbert has a long, scraggly beard that is almost always unkempt. His hair, which is graying at the sides and thinning on top is never brushed but this doesn't normally matter as he never goes out without his large brimmed hat on his head. His face is broad with laugh-lines beginning to appear at the corners of his mouth and eyes. His hawk nose is large and reddish, most often sporting a pair of spectacles which are perched on the tip. His eyes peer out from underneath a pair of bushy eyebrows that are unkempt like the rest of him.
While most of his life he has been of an average build, his love of food is starting to add more bulk to him. His shoulders are broad and his hands are large. He often wears bedraggled and mismatched clothing, looking rather shabby as a consequence.
