Find the Lost Puppy (Brink and Pain)

Pain sat up in bed shaking the dream from his head, the memories of the past to this day was still haunting him as if his past refused to be forgotten, placing a palm to his head he tapped his skull trying to remove the memories of a life past.. Standing up he walked to his door and stopped as he saw a letter. Reaching down he grabbed the envelope and opened it to read the letter. Looking it over he finally slid it into his pocket and headed down stairs to see if his partner was around. Since their last mission which ironically was the same kind as this one had gone so well they decided to become a team.

Walking down the stairs he looked around for his teammate to see if he was really up for chasing around another dog inside the spooky forest...again. Waking over to the bar he spotted Brink, grabbing one of the members he lifted him off the stool and sat down grabbing a drink. Looking over he punched Brink in the shoulder; reaching into his pocket he slid the paper over to his partner. Taking a swig of his beer he placed it down and looked over at Brink. "Chasing another dog, you up for it? Some good money and another trip to the spooky forest." With that he stood up and walked over to the board looking it over, so far nothing else seemed interesting enough to do and the note had been left under his door.

Brink was bored and was taking a little nap at the bar seeing as he was doing job after job with people and his last one with Ebony and Mari wore him out from all the travel and exciting battle that was taking place. However, he was not dreaming of that but of the few moments with his father that he was so fond of seeing as he was not strong enough to go back yet nor did he really want to go back seeing as he knew what would happen when he did… death.

He was swiftly awoken however, when he was hit on his arm by his friend Khalix who stole someones seat seeing as Brink remembered someone else there when he started his little nap. He was not very happy that he was awakened just for a simply job that Khalix at this point should have been able to do by himself easily. However, Brink had no strength to argue as he read the paper that was passed to his it was the exact job from beforehand and wondered why he would even want to take a job like this again.

“Well I guess we can do this again lets head over to the clients house before I change my mind and go back to sleep.” Brink smirked as he was joking with Khalix but he really didn’t feel like doing this he however jumped up from his seat and headed out the guild hall making his way the entrance gate wondering how this job would go this time around.

Pain looked over at Brink watching him walk out of the Guild, his partner was a bit grumpy from time to time but he wouldn't want anyone at his side in a battle. The warrior turned back to the job at hand for it was here that he was going to get stronger, this time he was going to do more than take down one creature. Brink was a powerful entity no doubt about it and for that he had to show that he brought more to this group than his looks.

Looking down the street they came to a small house no more than a single story with a young woman sitting on the porch clutching a locket, tears in her eyes and down her face which showed on her dark tan skin; hair rumpled as if she no longer cared about her physical appearance. The young warrior felt a stab of sympathy for the woman who seemed to have built her entire life around her dog which was also pathetic.

he stopped in front of the woman and held out the letter asking if she was the one who asked someone at the guild to put it under her door. Her reaction was to hug the warrior and cry on his shoulder which made Pain very uncomfortable but for the job he just patted her back. Finally after two minutes she pulled away and started talking about how her brother had taken her dog for a walk to the forest and how suddenly the dog had taken off. Pain wondered what kind of idiot takes a dog to a place known as the Spooky Forest. Patting the woman on the shoulder, Pain informed her they would do their best to bring her dog back.

The woman nodded and walked back inside still holding the locket, pain turned and looked at Brink and sighed. "Sora or carriage?" He of course was referring to the means of travel. The bird, or the train.

Brink was in his own world as Pain carried on with the job stuff talking to some random woman crying of her locket, which they approached after walking a little ways away from the guild. She seemed destroyed but Brink was not in a good mood today so he would have no part in that conversation he simply thought of the day that would come where he fought his father for the true right to be called a ‘God Slayer’.

However, Brinks thought was interrupted when Pain asked him what mode of transportation he wanted to take and Brink ignored him for a little while then snapped back into him old self so that he would not worry his partner and ruin this job.

“Let’s take sora, we will get there faster and remember there are probably going to be Vulcan again for some reason they love dogs…” Brink let out a fake laugh but no one could tell the difference he was great at lying and hiding true emotion it came with being raised by yourself for the longest time it was simply something you need to learn to survive.

However, Brink was mulling over a question in the back of his mind that might make this a little funnier. He was wondering if Pain would show him a true show of strength instead of Brink having to jump in and save him right off the bat. He smirked at the thought and turned around to wait for Pain to call Sora it was clear he wanted this job to hurry up so hopefully Pain got the memo from the moments of silence passing over the two.

Pain nodded and let out a piercing whistle which soon lead to a shadow flying over them. Sora turned in the air and came down to land. Looking over at brink he noticed the silence but decided not to push the situation, his partner needed his space and that was fine with him. Walking over to Sora he jumped in the saddle and waited. His head turned looking at the scene around him. The city was doing so well, the guild here growing more and more everyday, and his skills getting better. Yes, all was going very well and he loved it, much different from his days as an enforcer for that small time gang in Rose Garden.

Once Brink joined them Sora took to the skies, the rising up from ground to sky was soothing and let the mind and body relax. The sensation of flying made Pain smile, his mind worked through his dream trying to sort it all out and find the root for the dream that had made him so worried and fearful of his past catching up to him. Few things scared him but those people from his past finding him here in the guild was something he wouldn't allow. The forest soon came into view and during the trip Pain and Sora spoke few words between them.

Finally landing on the moist earth, pain leaped from Sora's back and landed on his feet with ease. Looking out at the forest he felt the presence of darkness and hunters in there. Predator to predator he knew in that forest lived Death for those unprepared. Today he was going to push more from himself for he refused to be the weak link in the chain.

Brink stood until he could see Sora shadow come over head and he smirked as Pain jumped on the giant bird he was swift to follow and was not truly worried about what was going on in the world but he was going to ask Pain some questions before they landed. Brink cracked his neck and fingers on both sides and smirked seeing as fighting let him calm down and focused back on life at hand.

“So Pain are you going to actually help this time or am I doing all the fighting again.” Brink was smirking waiting for a smartass remark from his friend seeing as he probably would hate hearing that again. Brink busted out laughing waiting for the answer seeing as it was killing him inside to be serious he was a fun outgoing person only serious in battle so he shaped up.

“Also who else have you done a job with or am I the only member so far you find “Worthy” of going along side you into battle.” Brink had his eyes closed as he laid on Sora back and was smiling and relaxing then he noticed they had reached the Spooky forest seeing as Sora began to land which happened rather swiftly compared to last time. Brink would slowly open his eyes looking at the clear skies and the beautiful white clouds today was beautiful Brink was not going to waste it being moody so he jumped off the bird and stretched wondering what Khalix plan of action might be.
