Dagda gazed out at the rippling waves of the Fishy Fish Sea, admiring the way the late afternoon light lit up the water. He’d forgotten how majestic the ocean was, despite this one sounding like it had been named by a five year old. The name was amusing and quite fitting, which was discovered upon arrival. Fish of all kinds leapt from the water here and there. There was an abundance of them, which made him a little confused about the description that had been sent to Meliora Vitae.
Just that morning he’d received word of a severe poaching problem off the shore of the southwest tip of Fiore. A university outpost sat on the coast, a place for marine biology students to aid in the observation and study of various native fish species. According to the man who had contacted Dagda, several types of magical fish that were legally protected had been disappearing. Their population numbers had been dwindling in the researchers’ data. He’d seen the poachers heading out to sea himself and returning with what he assumed to be giant mounds of fish covered by tarps. The man mentioned that he had also reached out to the Magic Council, but he knew the bureaucratic process would make for a response not quick enough to save the fish.
Dagda had immediately agreed to lend assistance. He’d gathered supplies in case the expedition took a while, then reached out to two guild members to join him. First had been Tabitha, the newest member of Relocation & Dispatch. This task was exactly what that branch was intended to do and he hoped she would find it an exciting first mission.
The second person he’d reached out to was Pimwadee. He hadn’t worked with her a lot within the guild, but he’d gotten to know her fairly well since they met at the guild’s start. He saw her as a trustworthy and passionate guild member. That, and he’d been trying to give cadets chances to go on expeditions that fell within the realms of each branch so that it may aid their decision of which they wanted to join. This would be a good chance for all three to work in a small team too.
It had taken most of the day for the pod from the S.S. Endeavor to reach the coast. That was the quickest way to get there besides teleportation. The pod now sat in the sand father down the beach, out of sight of the town.
The wooden docks creaked and swayed beneath his feet. “It’s lovely here,” he commented, looking to Pim and Tabi with a smile. Dagda was blissfully unaware of the fishy smell that permeated from the water due to the mass populations of aquatic life. He’d lost his sense of smell as a child. However, despite the scent, the town at the docks was small but cozy. A tavern and a store sat at the edge of the beach. Things were quiet here besides the constant ocean sounds. Almost too quiet…
“Let’s try to get a spot on the ship,” he suggested to his guildmates, pointing towards one of the few that was docked nearby. “If we head out on the water, maybe we can get an idea of what kind of fish are being targeted.” The researcher’s call had been quick due to bad connection, so the information he had been given was unfortunately unspecific.
