Free-form: It's a good day to get clean!

A new posting by the Guild Master and President of the West Fiore Trading Company! It seems that Romulus, the guilds Storm Bird, is in need of his monthly bath. The listing asks all mages of the guild to come in and help try to get this filthy bird clean. If not, Romulus is likely to send the surrounding area into a month long storm, and business wouldn't like that. Nor would any of the workers…. or sailors, or anyone in general having to deal or live in Tolgalen. So now, it is up to the guild to take care of the guild pet, whether Romulus likes it or not. However, the biggest problem is the bird's size. Romulus is the size of a small mountain, not something that is easily contained.

Jaegers first thought? Ignore it. There was no way to get that bird on the ground long enough to wash it. However, if by group effort, even his little bit of cleaning could help. And who knows, it might turn out to be a fun day of chasing the bird around trying to get water on him. Which was going to be a challenge, even if Jaeger could get the big storm bird grounded for a while, he’d have to make sure it was somewhere with a lot of water to help clean; and the only place that’d really suit that was the ocean…. But the ocean was all salty and not great for cleaning. What the group of mages would need was a freshwater source to clean the feathers of Romulus.

So, Objective one is to find a big enough source of freshwater for the job. This would take a lot of searching as Tolgalen is a big country and island. Then to find the big storm bird and lure him to said source of water. Now the absolute hardest part is catching him long enough to get some of its feathers and body clean.

The mage set off for this, he merged into the land of Tolgalen and shifted his way further inland.
With his enhanced connection to the planet and such, he should have no trouble in finding a great source of water for the big bird to wash in. The soil around the larger bodies of water should be much more saturated and moist from all the water it regularly has to hold. It should feel much more like he is slogging through mud than shifting through the stone and compact dirt.

After hours of searching, Jaeger found just that; the soil was very moist and saturated and felt like one was in a mud bath, so very relaxing. The man shifted out of the ground, leaving only his feet remaining. The rest stood and looked at the large lake he had come upon. Now it wasn’t the biggest, and likely not big enough to fit the bird in it…. But what if Jaeger could make it rain? The water would just cover Romulus and drag the dirt away…. Sorta. This is like a car being washed during a storm, right?

Yes, this lake would do for making it rain over the giant bird. The only problem is getting the big monster here and keeping him long enough for the plan to work. What sort of treats and food did he like? Normal birds ate grubs, worms, and stuff, right? But where would he get enough to satisfy a creature THAT big? No, that wouldn’t do. Jaeger would need meats, smelly, delicious meats that will swirl through the air and attract the fearsome thunderbird. Getting enough for the feathered friend would be very expensive… but perhaps he could just charge it to the company. It’d only make sense to do so, it was the Guilds/Companies bird and something they wanted done. Why should the mage have to pay out of pocket for this?

So the mage did a complete 180 and went back to town to grab supplies. Jaeger would need the raw hunks of meat and some seasoning. He wouldn't need to get a grill or fire pit started as he could heat the meat himself. Only other question is when to start the cooking and get that scent into the air. Starting to get some of it heating up early on could leave a nice trail for the storm bird to follow, though it could attract other predators on the island; he’ll just have to cross that bridge when he got to it.

Jaeger started hiking back through the large forested and mountainous area, to the lake he is going. As he started weaving through the trees and over the rocks, the man began heating up the meat to the right temperature. After about ten minutes or so and the meats were beginning to send their delicious scenty smoke into the air. He could see eyes peering at him from afar, glaring at the tasty meat that is cooking through their territory, but they have yet to pounce. It’s not like he can just give them it, it’s for Romulus! If there are any leftovers, the critters and beast of the woods are welcome to it. Assuming the bird sticks around at all once the water starts flying. This would all be easier if he could control water.

After a few hours passed, the mage made it to the body of water in one piece. The meat on his back has been slow cooking for all that time, spreading the cooked meat smell all over the forest and hopefully high into the sky. Jaeger sets the large pack down and spreads out the cuisine of the meat, he still needs to finish off the searing on the outside of the meat so it looks good for the bird. Wait, does it matter to the bird if it has a good looking finish to it? The humans around tend to like a nicely seared steak and on their other meat, but would Romulus give a crap about it? It’s something to ponder has he changes the overall heating to just the skin/outside of the meat chunks.

Overhead, something blocks out the sun from reaching  the  lake below. A large, very large shadow is cast over the whole area. One could hear the beasts and creatures in the area scatter and run.

It was him! Romulus has taken the bait and is circling the smell of cooked meats. Sure, the mage probably could have left the meat uncooked and raw for the beast, cooking really doesn't do as much for them as it does for humans and the like, but Jaeger needed the smells of the sizzling grub to attract him in the first place. The thunderous avian took its sweet time gliding around the area, likely making sure the situation was legit and not some trap. Was he smart enough to remember what time it was? Was this trap all for nothing? Possibly. Beasts can have an unusual instinct or even intelligence. Meanwhile on the ground, stragglers of the small critters and creatures were still escaping the large shadow and presence, fearing it. Jaeger was just smiling, waiting to give the bird a big welcome.



After several minutes of circling, the big bird slowly flapped its way down to the surface of the planet. It was a smallish clearing that was made bigger as Romulus lowered itself, easily forcing trees out of the way and creating a very hard nest to lay in. Perhaps that was intentional…. Or maybe not but either way, it has to be very uncomfortable. Jaeger grabbed a piece of the juicy meat he brought and waved it all over the air around him, really trying to entice the bird to land quicker. This likely wasn’t very useful, just wasting the juice as it flug off the meat with each wave; the bird would have already had the smell and scents flowing throughout his nose already.

After a few more minutes of enduring the wind from Romulus’ flapping, the big bird finally landed. Trees were indeed flattened around the mage and the lake; it looked like a meteor had crashed into Earthland and the force created from it had just blasted everything down or away. If a fight were to break out against this mountain, it likely would not end well for him. So, his plan would need to be enacted quickly to explode the lake and let the water rain down onto the bird. It’s the best thing to do; one, Jaeger wouldn't be able to get enough soap to cover the small mountain sized bird, and two Romulus likely wouldn't let him get close enough to try and scrub the feathers. It was a tricky situation.



Jaeger spoke loudly to make sure his ‘friend’ could hear. The avian beast cocked its head momentarily to look at the small human, It was trying to think and figure out the humans angle, could he trust Jaeger? In the scheme of things, no, the mage did have nefarious intentions of cleaning him! When some time had passed, Romulus nodded and lowered its beak down and began to eat the mound of cooked meat the mage had prepared. Quick, Jaeger needed to get all his spells off in swift succession to hold the thunderous one down and get the water into the air. The mage slammed both hands down onto the ground and looked to Romulus.



The birds eyes went wide and then into a squint, giving a look to JAeger as if to say ‘You wouldn't dare.’

Two different magic circles formed under each hand, circling around as bigger, three hundred foot counterparts formed under or around Romulus. The circle in the right hand was a vibrant green, the sigils shifted and wrapped around one another, growing from a small bud until it looked like everything would just burst into life. The other magic circle was brown trimmed with a similar vibrant green. In the center of it all the magic sigils and runes were crowded and crammed together, looking almost like a solid blob of color. As the color ran from the middle out, it broke up and formed what looked like branches of a tree until it went to the green. The former sprouted dozens and dozens of tentacle-like vines that would jet upward and begin wrapping around the bird as best they could. Romulus skewed his eyes and watched them burst from the ground and once they touched, immediately started trying to flap and get out.



The other spell forced trees to spring forth from the soil below, outlining the opposite side of the mountainous bird. Once fully grown, he’d manipulate them into wrapping the branches around the flying storm in conjunction with the vines. The trees themselves were stronger and better rooted to the ground, capable of weathering move from this strong adversary! And now that he has gotten his feathered friend tied down, it was time to get the water into the air and rain down.





A few vines snapped as he struggled to get up and away. Surely Jaeger was earning the beasts anger and retaliation, but it was for the good and health of Romulus! Or at least that was what the guild told themselves whenever it came to this.





Romulus was clearly unhappy with the situation, so before he really got mad, Jaeger would need to get the water started. The mage shifted himself a little further away from Romulus and stuck a hand out towards the lake. Bubbles soon started expanding and boiling within the water and then suddenly, KABOOM. The surface of the water domed up before being sent straight into the air. It reflected many oranges, reds, yellows, and white lights as the explosion went off underneath it. The noise was muffled by the water, but you could still hear a bit of an echo bounce around the forest.

The storm bird grew even more rambunctious as what water was sent flying came raining down on the area. It got the grass, the vines, the bird, and some even on the half eaten pile of meat. It wasn’t enough, once the lake settled down a bit, he’d do another B.L.E.V.E to get more into the air.

Insert explosion sound effect! Another B.L.E.V.E went off and more water surged into the air. The noise of the spell being set up cleared out all remaining animals from the area, save for Romulus, which was still being held by the vines and trees. However, the bindings likely wouldn't last longer if romulus gets too frustrated; he is the size of a freaking mountain after all. The vines and trees were somewhat magically enchanted to be stronger, but even they have their limitations.

The second wave of water rained down onto the mage and bird, covering and drenching them in the fresh lake water. Figuring that there was little time left, Jaeger moved in to scrub some of the birds underbelly feathers. His fingers quickly became coated in dirt and grime despite the fact the feathers didn't look THAT dirty. Eitherway, it was progress, right? At least something could come of this, such as getting the exterior cleaned while the deeper you go would need some work for another time.



With a mighty push and flap, the storm bird started forcing his way out of the trap. The Vines were the first to go, as one would expect, snapped and flailed around like some sort of elastic bungie that had stretched too far. You could hear the cracking and breaking of the tree limbs from the other side of the beast, the little time he had was coming to a close.  Jaeger just sighed and looked up to the big fella.



Jaeger explained while simultaneously manipulating the trees to unravel from the fowl. If the bird wasn’t going to stay long to get clean, at least he could leave the trees ion well enough cognition to survive and populate the lake. Once released, Romulus shot up into the sky with all the flapping he was doing.



Clearly, he wasn’t in a good mood anymore but responsibility tends to do that to everyone. The mage looked at the little amount of meat left and just shrugged. The other animals could tear into it for some food once they start creeping back into the lake region. It was time he got back to the HQ and report on his ‘success’ for cleaning the bird. It was up to the rest of the guild to try something else and get this flying duck a bath. Unless he somehow gains water magic, there’s no way he was going to get the creature a big enough bath all by himself.

Almost immediately after returning back to the premises of the HQ, Jaeger could tell something was off. Mostly, it was the fact that a lot of guild oriented furniture was being removed from the building, but there was also some gut reaction that he preferred to listen to instead of the obvious. A woman with red hair was standing outside, dividing up some of the things that needed to go and what would need to be put back for the WFTC to still operate as a business. This woman was Scarlette, one who often got on his case about doing jobs and such for the guild portion of the company. She not-so-politely told Jaeger that the guild was being shut down, but the business itself remained as just a business.The mage was once again a free agent, but was welcome to stay on as a temp, none mage position. He would think about it.
