While Ahote was far from approaching his deathbed, he had certainly seen better days. Ever since becoming a Necromancer, while acquiring powerful magic, he was the most prone to illness and fatigue than he had ever been before. It was merely a side-effect of practicing such a dark art, but nothing he ever got used to. His hair and skin would lose its vibrant color and his eyes become something other than the rich amber he was so used to. His figure was still charming, nonetheless, but ghostly.

It happened whenever Ahote was lacking "life force" as some label it. It was the equivalent of dehydration or perhaps being anemic to put it in more common terms, but far more dreadful. As a solution to this inevitable problem, in the cellar of Boomslang is a room personalized for Ahote alone. The only reason he never leaves Boomslang except for work is because he quartered there as well. In that room was everything an adult needed to sustain themselves: food, water, entertainment, and whatnot. But most importantly, there was a rather large bathtub. It's a rather unimpressive tub, and while the nitty-gritty details are not important, it is where Ahote poured of the blood of recently passed people and lathered himself in it. It was a gross, odorous routine but one necessary if he wanted to rid himself of his peaky appearance.

It was in the middle of the afternoon today when Boomslang's biggest business was younger men and women coming in for the drinks more than the clubbing. It was only after dark that Boomslang truly came alive. But, business was business and Ahote didn't care what exactly one came here for as long as they weren't loitering.

Ahote was leaning over the bar countertop, gingerly pressing his temples with the fingers of his left hand while resting on his right. He was wearing his usual vest-suit hued with traditional pigments and a black trench coat to match. Needless to say, Ahote already had a gloomy, aloof air to him and the change in appearance only added to this idea. In fact, he looked like he was mourning someone or something when in reality, he was simply just fatigued.

"I hate this feeling. Is the bath ready?" Ahote quietly complained to the employee next to him. It was a young woman, but she neither had a will of her own or was alive. She was, in short, a cleverly disguised lich. In fact, all of his employees were simply slaves of his necromancies. They were also something to talk to when Iris and Aeluri weren't around.

"Almost. It will be ready in about ten minutes." she replied cooly.

". . ." Instead of saying anything, Ahote just sighed and continued to press his temples and pinch his eyes.

The Music Man Comes To Play

How long has it been since the green haired musician played music? He couldn’t quite tell. He was just roaming the streets of Crocus in a daze. It had been… a good few days? Weeks? Months? He didn’t know anymore. It had been some time since his wife had died… by the hands of some reaper thing. He didn’t know how long it had really been if he was honest. He was going around trying to numb himself anyway he could. Forcing himself to play music, sleeping around with anyone he could, putting his head under some water at a lake, sitting in a cold cave. He gave up on the last two though. He hadn’t tried drinking too much alcohol though. He was always afraid that it’d ruin his musical abilities. Taking things like ‘Happy’ pills, they actually honestly scared him when it came to his music too. He didn’t want to lose any part of his music. He also feared that Yuii would come back and haunt him from the grave should he do so too.

He found his feet shuffling down the cobblestone road while passer-byers walked around him at various speeds. The afternoon rush of people going to lunch, finding places to go to eat and drink was there. The musician just wanted it to stop. To be alone. Or have something drown out the world. After walking to an area, he finally stopped and looked around. It looked like he was close to some restaurants. Whatever. He’d go in one and dine and dash probably. Without looking at a sign, he turned and opened the door to what seemed like a bar. His green eyes glancing over everyone in there. Seemed like no Rune Knights or similar were there to recognize him. Good. His Errings Rising tattoo was gone at current, thanks to the ring, and he had his hair down to frame his face to let himself hide in it from time to time.

He had on a black tank top with a bright green stripe diagonally across it, black skinny jeans with black studded belt holding them up, and black combat boots with bright green shoelaces upon his feet. A bar. Maybe for once, the musician should go and drink more than a glass to see how it goes with him. He goes right to the bar counter and sits down in one of the stools. He runs his fingers through his hair before he lifts his head up. “One glass of whatever you recommend.” He says with a sigh. His face was a bit worn from lack of sleep. How the mighty have fallen. And all for what? A person… But unfortunately, not just any person, one they had wed before. With his head hung again, he lightly cursed under his breath. He needed to stop thinking of Yuii.

Ten minutes couldn't come any faster. Before Ahote could settle into his misery for too long, someone walked into Boomslang. The thud of boots against the floorboards prompted Ahote to stand straight, looking in the direction it came from. Not to his surprise, it was a young man who looked to be about a twenty-something with long green hair and a sharp, pretty face. Well, that's how it would've looked if it wasn't wrinkled with lethargy. The man seemed very tired, and Ahote only knew that because his own face didn't look much different from his. They both seemed heavy with some burden.

He hesitated only for a moment to look at that man's face as he sat down. Studying the visible fatigue, it was then that he decided to kill these next ten minutes inquiring about the stranger's troubles. He cleared his throat, reaching below the counter for a drinking glass and a bottle of liquor. "Of course," said Ahote, "give me a moment."

Ahote, ironically, had only drunk a small handful of the myriad of alcohols he sold since he himself disliked alcohol. However, he was still able to make recommendations based on what drunk friends drank. They would obviously know more about it than he would, and yet, he was the one marketing it. As a result, he also became rather proficient at preparing the drinks with notable brevity.

After about fifteen seconds, a glass of some brown liquor was gently placed in front of the man across the counter. "If you don't mind me asking," Ahote wiped his pale hands of the glass's moisture with a hankerchief he carried with him, "what's troubling you? Would you like to talk about it...?" he asked candidly. If the man looked up, he would notice right away that Ahote was making a sincere suggestion, as no smile nor simper creased his lips. If anything, he looked angry with his natural frown of his brows, or as some might put it—a resting bitchface. But, in reality, the quiet club owner was genuinely curious of the man's anguish, but also couldn't find any other way to kill time faster.

music and sound goes hand in hand,
They're loud and beautiful, just like me.
beware, beware, the music man likes to play

The green haired mage nodded slowly as he put his elbows on the bar counter and covered his face. He kept his eyes closed as he waited for the alcohol, honestly not sure what he’d receive. Would he get some fruity tooty thing? Or something that could potentially knock him on his ass? He half hoped for something that would make him forget. Forget what? Maybe his whole existence. That would be absolutely great! He moved his hands out of his way and looked down to the counter. This didn’t look like something he could chug and go with like he saw others do before. With another sigh, he moved to grab it, but looked up at the bartender as he started talking to him. The man didn’t seem too amused to him. Did he not like his job or something? Goddamn…

He slumped his shoulders and closed his eyes. Did he want to spill his guts to a stranger? Fuck it. “My wife was killed…” He takes a rather deep breath as he brings the glass to his lips. He sipped the contents and put the glass down again, not letting go of it. “We were only married for three months before some reaper thing killed her… She was beautiful to me… knew me well… Had pretty white hair with red eyes. She thought she was from Midi too… so her favorite music was music that sounded like it came from there.” He was just rambling now. Nonsense that meant nothing to others probably. But it meant everything to him. His eyes started watering up as he looked down to his alcohol.

He brings the glass to his lips again as he closes his eyes. The only bad choice he did here was that he started to slightly chug the amber liquid before setting it down again. “I want to forget about it… forget about her… the feelings I had…” He tapped a finger on his glass as he shook his head. “Probably heard that a million times here, right?” He gave a halfhearted smile to that question, but it dropped rather quickly.
