Fiore was… cold. Surprisingly cold for Asher. It wasn’t too cold, nothing he couldn’t handle really, but the air this season was colder on a regular basis than Asher was used to. He was also used to more direct heating sources, like a fireplace, than the vent system the Red Dragon Inn used and he just couldn’t get used to it. Standing beside a vent blowing hot air was nothing like standing beside a warm cozy fire. To be honest, staying in the Inn was mildly uncomfortable after a lifetime of staying in a forest. He could hear other people and city noises all the time, instead of the usual noise of the wild. As someone with slayer senses, it could get overwhelming very quickly. The only reason he hadn’t fled the Ace of Spades to a nearby forest to sleep is that this way he was nearer to his guildmates and friends. The forest would be nice, but also not nice in a totally different way. In the end not being lonely took over. But that decision didn’t help the fact the heating vent hit Asher’s upper body from the ceiling first, not often reaching his toes. And since the man very much disliked shoes, this meant his toes were often cold in the room if he stayed still for too long. Which is what happened when he slept. Asher was sure once he was used to the cold it would be alright, but for now, it was uncomfortable.

He had complained to some of his guildmates about his predicament and one had pulled out the fluffiest and warmest blanket Asher had ever felt. He tried to claim it then and there but his guildmate was stronger than him and while keeping the blanket out of his grasp, they told the Slayer where he could get one of his own. Asher immediately made off to the Spooky Forest, only to sheepishly come back a few minutes later to pack his things. It was still Halloween season at the Ace of Spades and everyone was decked out in their costumes when Asher started to leave. Asher started to smile as a group of children dressed as various monsters came up to ask Asher for candy, despite it not actually being Halloween yet. He usually carried some around just in case he encountered Mei, he loudly exclaimed how scary their costumes were and handed out the candy with a smile before heading out of town.

The Spooky Forest was as they had been described as, spooky. Even though it was daylight when Asher arrived the forest was dark and eerie. It reminded him of those tales where evil witches lived, luring children to their cottages to eat them. It was probably why he screamed when an old lady in a purple witches costume seemed to appear literally out of know where, a sweet smile on her face “Sorry about startling you deary, welcome to the small shop my husband and I run. Would you like some Halloween treats from granny?” She said, and sure enough, just through the tree’s Asher could see the shop he was looking for. “Um! Sure, ma’am!” Asher said with nervous cheer, looking at the selections. It was all oddly pumpkin flavoured, and unfortunately for him, sweet. He picked a bit of everything since she asked so nicely, and after she left, warily took a bite of pumpkin pie. To his surprise, it tasted good! Everything did after he ate them all. Happy and well-fed Asher enters the store and is greeted by the sight of many cloth-making tools and an old man.

“Hi, there! I’d like to buy your warmest, fluffiest blanket!” Asher immediately chirps at the man before he can open his mouth. The shop owner chuckles and begins to show Asher various blankets. Then Asher begins to refuse each since none of them were as fluffy or warm as his guildmates. The more he refused, the deeper the frown the shopkeeper got on his face, until Asher became worried. “I’m sorry, all your work is really great but-.”

“No worries sonny.” The shopkeeper interrupts with a raised hand, looking tired. “I know the type o’ blanket yer talking bout. Unfortunately, the wool I need to make it is from the nastiest ram this side o’ the forest. Near impossible to tame but my last tame ram of the breed just passed away. Only the wild ones left.” The man said with a disappointed sigh, but Asher perked up.

“That means I just need to kill one for you right? You got it! Be right back!” Asher says cheerfully, ignoring the shopkeeper's shocked cry of warning and of more monsters.

FOR THE FULFFY BLANKET Empty Re: FOR THE FULFFY BLANKET

The forest didn’t stop being spooky just because Asher was alone and deep in it. No, it became worse. But Asher no longer felt scared. It was dark and scary, but it was still a forest and didn’t have the magical aura of evil things. Even the monsters Asher avoided were normal smelling and feeling monsters. Or maybe this time he was on a hunt with a definite goal in mind. Sheep, sheep… or was it a ram? What was the difference? Horns? Sex? Gender?? Did sheep/ram ponder on the social complexities of gender??? Anyways Asher was searching for a big woolly animal/monster.

He found what he was looking for about an hour later. A big looking sheep, and ewe that what the Shepard called them, stood alone in a small forest clearing, eating some grass. Wishes he had thought to bring a bow, Asher instead grabbed his sword in his sheath and prepared to pounce. With a war cry that he instantly regretted (what kind of hunter cried out?! Grandpa would be so mad!) Asher leaped onto the back of the ewe and began to stab and slash rapidly. The beat thrashed significantly and Asher had almost killed it before he was thrown off. Rolling onto the ground, Asher quickly recovered and turned while raising his sword to block any more attacks. Then paused with a bit of dread as two more angry looking ewe entered the clearing, nostrils flaring with rage. It was then Asher knew he was in trouble.

But not THAT much trouble. The slayer may be a bit of a dunderhead but he always had good instincts in battle. He quickly realized that the ewes only attacked by charging in a straight line, making Asher’s strategy to doge then slash as they passed. But then he had been rammed into a few times. Ribs aching Asher wanted to end the battle quickly. He had already killed the first ewe, but dodging the other two at the same time was becoming troublesome. But soon he realized they attacked his flowing cape as much as him. Using his cape as a banner he managed to get enough room between the two ewes to make dodging them a breeze. Soon enough all three were dead at his feet. Cheering, Asher grabbed one to bring to the shopkeeper. They paused, feeling the wool. It felt nothing like the wool he wanted for the blanket. Groaning in annoyance Asher realized it was the wrong sheep. He tied the three dead ewes together and hung them in a tree away from predators to be picked up later before continuing his hunt.

FOR THE FULFFY BLANKET Empty Re: FOR THE FULFFY BLANKET

With a small pout on his lips, Asher carries on in the forest to find his REAL mark. This time he’ll check the wool…

It took another three hours of silently stalking through and forest and two missed calls with more of those ewe hoards, but peering from behind a bush in a rockier and cliffy part of the forest lay what Asher is sure is the ram he was looking for. For one, its fluffy coat took up about 90% of its appearance, even fluffier than the ewes, and positively gleamed with shiny-ness. For another it was huge (about 8 feet tall) and mean-looking, worthy of the shopkeeper’s description. Wiggling his butt in anticipation a bit, Asher prepares to leap. When it gets near Asher does so from a cliff above it, this time without a yell. The beast didn’t even seem to notice him, busy eating lush grass. Ignoring the fact, it was ignoring him, Asher began to desperately stab it. Only the find that the wool was so thick that his sword barely pierced its flesh. But the Boss Ram felt it, and with a great shake flung Asher right off it. Asher landed roughly and barley rolled away in time to dodge a hoof that creaked cracks in the ground when it landed. Asher was in trouble. This beast fought more smartly than the others, and while it also tended to charge in a straight-line Asher had to do a full-body leap out of its way instead of a jump. He tried to fight back, but the one time it managed to hit him caused the slayer to cough blood. Taking cover behind a boulder, Asher had to think. Run or risk death to keep fighting. Noticing the ram getting stuck in the side of a cliff, and something about nearby, an idea came to Asher.

Waving his cape in a suicidal motion to outsiders, the ram charged at Asher, who dodged nimbly if painfully. He didn’t even look back to see if it was actually stuck, Asher just sprinted to the top of the cliff. And began to push. Boulder after boulder he pushed on top of the beast, getting more and more stuck and crushed with each weight on its wool. Taking mercy o the struggling creature Asher went down to deliver the killing blow.

It took effort, but he pushed the boulders off the beast and dragged it to the shocked elderly couple. While his blanket was being made Asher, despite his injuries, went to get the other ewe’s he killed to give to the old couple, who thanked him with an extra big fluffy blanket and more pumpkin sweets. Grinning if still in pain, Asher left the frost to head home to the Ace of Spades. Also, was it just him or did his armour feel a bit… stronger?
