Caelestis wasn’t quite sure what to make of this request. All he had to do was gather ingredients for this little old man, using the baskets he’d provided? It was almost too easy to do, given his extensive knowledge on edible plants and such. He’d certainly spent enough time camping on treasure hunting excursions to be able to tell edible ingredients from poisonous ones. This would be a cakewalk, he’d already seen several bushes of edible berries and patches of mushrooms on his way to meet with the client, who’d given him a brief rundown on some of the edible items in the area and offered him the basket in the first place.
Hauling the baskets up into his arms, he set off. His first stop was a mere 5 minutes from the old man’s house, bushes with scores of wild blueberries making for a quick start to his hunt for food for the man. He wasn’t very deep into the forest, though, so once he’d gathered enough berries (and eaten a handful or two) he set off to find the next edible food for the man.
The next ingredient took longer to find, but when he did find it he couldn’t help but smirk triumphantly. Rosehips. Not only were the small plants edible, but they were great for staging off impending colds, as well as a number of other health benefits. The old man would surely be grateful for these, they even made an excellent tea! He was quick to gather the little berry-like rosehips, putting them into the same basket as the previously collected berries. He’d also spotted some common, edible mushrooms nearby, and put those into another basket.
He was feeling very good about his little hunt as he walked, finding all sorts of ingredients as he did so. Nuts, mushrooms, and berries were common finds, though he’d come across a couple of types of fruits and other edible plants during his search through the forest. He paused for a minute to smile fondly at a patch of dandelions, collecting a few for the now very full baskets. Dandelions may have been a common weed to most, but they were perfectly edible plants and ones Caelestis was particularly fond of. They’d do nicely for the assortment of ingredients he’d collected, he mused as he placed them carefully on top of the other ingredients in one of the baskets. It wouldn’t do to have them all crushed and dirty before he brought them back to the old man, now would it? That said, it was time to head back. All but one of the baskets were full, and the last of the baskets was nearly full anyways. He’d find something to fill it on the way back.
It was incredibly peaceful, walking through the forest. The place was so alive with birdsong and the noise of all kinds of critters, it was the kind of experience many people would take for granted. At its core, the forest was wild and so very alive, a fact Caelestis could respect. It was such a unique environment, full of things even the young mage had never seen in his previous travels. In a way, this ingredient hunt had been perfect for him as well. He’d gotten to observe animal species he’d never seen before, and all kinds of interesting natural phenomena. Really, it was a pleasant experience. The only thing he would change if he could was how heavy the baskets had gotten as they’d filled. By the time he’d made it back to his client his arms were sore and aching, though the jewels would absolutely be worth it.
