Prismatic Anything? We Take Those! (Riia, Renji) Empty Prismatic Anything? We Take Those! (Riia, Renji)

Although Riia loved pastels above everything, colors of any kind were top tier on her list of favorite subjects. For conversations, for jobs, for anything- if it related to color in an interesting way, the fairy could be counted to want to participate. Most of her days now were spent wandering around Fiore. As a... "mage" who was not affiliated with any sort of guild, she had a hard time finding official work. Technically, Riia didn't need to make money in the same way as humans did. After all, she tended to just slip into another layer and sleep in a different dimension, making room and board mostly unnecessary. Similarly, she had no actual need to eat food. Instead, she fed off of emotions, essentially.

Still... the fairy wanted to do all of those things. It was a great way to meet people, renting an apartment and trying to get to know her neighbors! And even if Riia loved cotton candy over everything else, there was such a wide variety of sweets and lovely edible treats here in Fiore that she constantly was in need of more money to throw down on buying them. So while passing through a small village, Riia had eagerly devoured the sight of the local job board. Wizards weren't necessarily a common type of visitor, so the majority of the missions were for ordinary, non magical work. However, there was one request that stood out to her.

Apparently, someone named Guy Status wanted to recover a lost artifact called the Prismatic Aegis of Gen'atoh. Riia had been hooked from the moment she had read off the word, "Prismatic." Bright shining colors, rainbows, and pigments? She was in! The fairy had contacted the client through the iLac messaging system, which was still wholly unfamiliar to her. The response had been essentially to arrive at the edge of a specific set of ruins on a specific day. Done and done. She'd also been told that she would have a mission partner for this time around... that was exciting! Another person to meet and attempt to indoctrinate into the wonderful world of fairy floss?

Sprawling herself under the shade of a tree, Riia leaned against its trunk and squinted as she saw a figure in the distance slowly approach where she sat. Down here, on the grass, she had a nice view to her left of a rather sheer cliff with a bunch of ruins built into the side. Probably, that was where they would be headed, once everyone was all situated and ready to set off together. She couldn't help the smile that tugged at the corners of her mouth. Oh, this was going to be so exciting!

Post by Renji 27th July 2020, 11:55 am

Excitement filled Renji's heart when he took the job and was approved of it. It was his first job as a wizard to take on, and even though the details spoke of bodyguard duty. Renji couldn't help himself as he felt a mixture of anxious and thrilling excitement rolled into one. Granted his younger siblings didn't appreciate the fact that Renji might not come home for a few days, but thankfully his parents understood what this career required of young Renji. It was because of his family's support that Renji was able to keep marching forward without worry about their safety.

The archaeologist that went by the name of Guy Stratus was the client. Supposedly Guy wanted to rendezvous near the edge of the ruins. Additionally, Renji was to meet a traveling partner for this mission too. That piece certainly peeked his interest as Renji began to speculate on who his partner was. Was this person a really strong wizard? A fellow scientist perhaps? Or maybe another wizard like Renji that aimed to rank up and cash in jewels? Questions flooded Renji's mind, and yet no answer to any of them.

Renji donned in his usual traveling gear as it wasn't really cold. A simple sandy colored short sleeved shirt covered his torso from the natural elements. Strapped around his shoulders was the backpack that contained basic necessities for traveling whether it was food, hygiene, extra clothes, and even a tightly rolled bedroll on the side. Knowing he was coming to some ancient ruins, Renji made sure to bring some hempen rope which is strapped to the side of his bag. His hands wore a pair of basic leather gloves. A leather belt with a silver buckle kept his dark blue jeans at his waist, but there was nothing attached to his belt. Last, but not least is his leather boots that made his steps sound slightly heavier than they actually are.

The occasional breeze swept through the open area rustled his dark hair as Renji continued to walk along the path before him. The sheer idea of exploring some old ruins was appealing to the young man.

"If there's really an artifact here, then what in the world has been thwarting every other explorers and treasure hunters to do the same before?" Renji muttered to himself as the amount of walking got him thinking about the job. It was odd to him, and it made Renji naturally curious on what exactly these ruins held. Sweat was starting to create a dull shine along his forehead from the amount of walking as the heat continued to beat down on him from above.

As he walked on the old trail, Renji caught the sight of a lone tree that flourished with Jade green leaves. Casting a dense shadow around it as if the tree protected those below from the scorching sun. Meanwhile, over to Renji's right that happened to be a bit closer than the tree. Is the cliffside where old ruins of crumbled buildings and cracked columns of stone remained in its former glory. Renji would only assume that is the ruins he's tasked to escort their Guy through. One whom Renji swept his amber eyes over to find the client, yet instead he finds a figure leaned against the trunk of the tree. No sign of their client, Renji waved at Riia before he called out. His voice reverberated as the open area with the cliff carried his voice.

"You wouldn't happen to know where our dear friend Archaeologist is by any chance?"

Prismatic Anything? We Take Those! (Riia, Renji) Empty Re: Prismatic Anything? We Take Those! (Riia, Renji)

Post by uwulover 27th July 2020, 12:34 pm

Our dear friend? Who was their friend? They... had a mutual friend? Come to think of it, did she even know this person who was asking- Riia squinted at the figure, her expression betraying her complete and utter puzzlement. "Did we meet in a past life or something? I'm sorry, but I don't think I know you," the fairy pushed her back up against the tree trunk as she made her way up to a standing position. "I'm Riia, how about you? What's your name? Maybe it'll ring a bell?" Wiping her hands off on her shirt, the fairy held out her arm as the young man grew closer. Yeah, definitely not looking like a familiar face. But what had he said, archaeologist... now, Riia didn't actually know what that was.

However, since she was already in a state of confusion about the identities of both their apparent connection and the approaching individual himself, she chose not to say anything. Instead, Riia reached in her bag. As she opened it, bright, pastel light began to emanate from the opening, as if there were something glowing inside. She refastened the ties and held out the object she had grabbed from within: a clear plastic bag of cotton candy. "You want some? An apology gift for forgetting your name!" The fairy would smile sheepishly, trying to convey her genuine regret at her forgetfulness. To be honest, Riia wasn't usually this bad with like, remembering things, but everyone had their moments.

Just then, a shout came from off to the side. Running from vaguely the same direction as the young man had come from, just behind him, was another man. He looked both older and way younger, like- it was hard for Riia to think about. He had rather long, very curly warm brown hair that might have even bordered on slightly orange. His eyes were so big that she could have sworn they took up half of his face, and were an extremely bright emerald green. Riia was stunned. So shocked, in fact, that she completely missed what he had been shouting and continued to stand in place even as he slammed into Riia, going at an extremely fast pace. The abrupt decrease to momentum had him shaking for a moment before he staggered back, staring at her. Personally, Riia didn't think of herself as a very 'sturdy' person, but she was a magical demon and did have a heavy magical core that tended to weight her down where she stood. For that reason, it was pretty difficult to knock her over like a bowling pin.

"Sorry! I borrowed my friend's Speedster 900 to get here! It's really hard to control, but I had a late start this morning and didn't want to keep you two waiting..." he continued to ramble on a little more, but Riia had focused in on the device he was showing in the center of his palm. It looked like a little circle technology piece of thing, with some numbers on a screen in the upper middle. From what she could tell, it probably had enhanced his swiftness or the strength of his legs or... something along those lines. Shrugging, Riia waved her hand and a floating stick with candy floss wrapped around it appeared. "Have some cotton candy!" She grabbed the stick out of the air and shoved it into his face, smiling.

Prismatic Anything? We Take Those! (Riia, Renji) Empty Re: Prismatic Anything? We Take Those! (Riia, Renji)

Post by Renji 27th July 2020, 11:43 pm

It didn’t occur to Renji that he shouldn’t have said ‘friend’. It was his natural response that Renji didn’t really place too much thought into his words. Sometimes that aspect of Renji made his approach seem more open than one might have suspected. This led to the confusion Riia held as she spoke her questions and introduced herself almost in the same breath. Still, Renji felt his spirits spike in embarrassment as he had assumed wrong. Part of the reason why anxiety was like a curse to him, but Renji nervously chuckled as he attempted to brush it off.

”Even if we have met in the past life, I doubt we would remember it. My name is Renji Sahano, nice to meet you Riia.” Renji doubted that his name would be familiar to anyone out here. He was a fresh wizard that just started to make a name for himself, but Renji had a long way to go before people will recognize him by face or name alone. As the young wizard drew closer to the fairy, she dug into her bag and pulled out a clear bag of pink fluff. For some reason, Renji pictured a pink furred corgi, but then he remembered there was no such thing as a cotton candy corgi… or was there?

”Thank you for the offer, but I can promise you that you didn’t forget my name. This is our first meeting after a-” Renji was cut off short when he heard the rapid sound of gravel crunched together from the weight that drew close to them at an alarming rate. To which Renji turned to look at the source, but by that point all Renji saw was a blur of movement that rushed past him. An audible grunt that definitely came from the newcomer as Renji looked back. Riia stood without much of a scratch or anything. On the ground was an older man with curly brown hair. The later introduced Guy stood up to his feet as he explained what transpired. That was until Riia shoved a stick with cotton candy in his mouth. So Guy’s words quickly drowned into muffled words as he happily chewed on the candy.

”...yways, my name is Guy Stratus. And where we’re going is over the yonder there!” His words became clear after Guy took out the stick from his mouth. To which he used to point over at the open entrance of the ruins. With a gesture of his hand, Guy began to briskly walk over to the open maw within the cliffside. Renji shrugged his shoulders after Guy moved past them and began to follow behind.

Prismatic Anything? We Take Those! (Riia, Renji) Empty Re: Prismatic Anything? We Take Those! (Riia, Renji)

Post by uwulover 28th July 2020, 12:35 am

Riia followed Guy over to where he had begun clambering down to the ruins. She mulled over Renji's words as they went about tumbling down the side of the cliff, the fairy none too graceful when it came to these types of things. So, they didn't know each other, whether it was from a past life or this one? That was nice to know- at least she hadn't forgotten his face! A bit of a brighter smile now for an expression, she peered at the entrance to the tomb like place. It looked... dangerous? Riia had no small amount of trepidation, staring into that complex doorway. Mostly, the actual opening seemed to be normal, but from what she could tell, the room continued on for a very long time. The narrowness of it rendered the situation difficult to comprehend completely, but as far as she could tell, it was kind of like a bathroom. The flooring, she meant. There were all differently colored tiles all over the bottom of the corridor (since it might as well not have been dubbed a room at all, what with how long and skinny it was). Just as Riia was about to ask if either of the other two had any ideas about what that was supposed to do, Guy began to move. He pulled out a pebble from the satchel slung across his shoulder, tossing it onto the ground inside of the ruins.

It landed on a blue tile- whether that had been intentional or simply by chance, Riia couldn't be sure. What happened next was so strange that she could barely believe her eyes. The- the rock levitated in the air and then seemed to shatter into fine dust. Blinking, the fairy rubbed at her eyes before double checking that there were, in fact, itsy bitsy extremely small grains of rock smithereens all over that tile. Her curiosity was assuaged when Guy began to speak, explaining the situation. "All the tiles are dangerous, 'cept the yellow. I got no problems crossing up until the middle... y'see, over there?" He gestured further down the hallway. The more Riia squinted, the more she felt like she could see what he was talking about, but the lighting really wasn't very good at all. However, there did appear to be a part where the pattern kind of changed. Instead of being a scattering of multicolored squares, with yellow being the rarest by a long shot, there was instead a long band of darker colors that contained essentially none of the sunshine shade.

Then, it didn't come as a surprise that Guy wasn't able to make it past. Scrunching up her nose as she thought about the possible ways this challenge could be faced, Riia finally said, "Well, I could go first. If I implode, I can just reform!" Her tone was bright, and rather positive. Inwardly, though, she was worried about whether that would hurt. Probably, it would be a very short window of extremely intense pain of her body being ripped apart. But who knew, maybe it would be so instantaneous she couldn't feel anything! Being a testing dummy didn't make the fairy's top list of things to do, but she could accept it if they didn't have any actual concrete plans. "I guess I could try making a rope bridge out of cotton candy and throw it to the other wall and stick it there?" She offered up that idea, but Riia would be glad to hear if Renji had any plans.

Prismatic Anything? We Take Those! (Riia, Renji) Empty Re: Prismatic Anything? We Take Those! (Riia, Renji)

Post by Renji 29th July 2020, 10:40 pm

The ruins appeared to be, well, ancient as ruins often are. Renji wondered in his mind on what civilization these crumbling stonework belonged to. To have withstood against the erosion for centuries and who knew about the countless natural disasters that must have occurred near it. If there was indeed an artifact to be found in this place, Rin wondered how he would try to protect such a thing. Rin mentally placed himself into the person’s shoes who designed this vault, and the most obvious answer was to keep it only one entrance and exit at a time. As it limited the number of routes that could enter the vault.

As they neared their first challenge within the vault, Renji took note how these tiles didn't activate their traps until after the stone Guy threw landed on the blue tile. It seemed to be an instantaneous activation too as the rock levitated before it was crushed into a plume of fine dust. Which meant to Renji that no matter how fast any of them were, the trap would activate each time they stepped on it. Guy informed them that all but the yellow tiles are safe. Except that at the middle there was a complete void of yellow tiles. That certainly proved to be problematic as Renji doesn’t have anything that could glide over or make anything to avoid touching the tiles altogether.

”No, even if you can reform, it’ll take up too much time and energy on your part. Who knows what lies beyond here, so we need to conserve ourselves.” Renji wouldn’t risk anyone’s life either, and Renji didn’t think her being imploded would be painless to say the least. He dismissed further thoughts along that path as Renji looked up to the ceiling. As the young wizard thought if maybe Renji tacked a piton in the ceiling then he could hook the rope to serve as a swing. Riia spoke of her cotton candy again, and Renji began to assume that was her magic. Still, as silly as it sounded to the more serious attitude, Renji agreed with what she was talking about.

”That could work. We can just hop over to the farthest yellow tile up to the middle, and then if you can Riia. You could form a rope bridge by anchoring the sides of these walls over here and have it stretched over the middle. Because we don’t need to have it stretch all the over, unless you think it’s better that way.” Renji suggested as Guy shifted his eyes between Renji and Riia. Of course, the man shrugged his shoulders as he stood up with his bag slung over his shoulder once again.

”Whatever you guys decide to do, I leave it up to you. Well, ‘cept for just walking on the dangerous tiles anyways. I intend to stay alive, not joining the layer of dust on the floor.”

Prismatic Anything? We Take Those! (Riia, Renji) Empty Re: Prismatic Anything? We Take Those! (Riia, Renji)

Post by uwulover 30th July 2020, 5:54 pm

"Mm, okay! That's very practical," Riia nodded sagely when he said it would take too much time and energy. It was true, she would probably waste both testing the protective mechanisms out on herself. She was glad that he liked the idea of her cotton candy bridge! Cheerfulness was obvious on her face as she tilted her head back and forth, shaking her brain around inside of her skull as she thought to herself. The fairy pictured what Renji was saying... so they would get all the way up until the super dangerous section, and then she could work her magic! Got it! That did sound like it could definitely work. Smiling, she clapped her hands. "Sure! Let's do that, then. We can make it to there, right? You won't die, right?" A touch of anxiety colored her voice as she glanced over at Renji, wanting to be sure that he would be just fine with this plan.

Guy should be alright, at least, she assumed that (what with how he had already made it there and back in previous attempts to penetrate this set of ruins). But Renji, aaah, as much as Riia didn't want to be too concerned and wanted to trust him, she was worried! What if he got poofed into dust?? "Hey, let me wrap you up in cotton candy! I'll leave space for your eyes," she suggested, before realizing it was a little bit silly of an idea. In fact, it could possibly hamper his movements further, rendering the situation more dangerous than before. "Oh, nevermind! I wasn't thinking," the fairy laughed before shrugging her shoulders to loosen them up. "Alright, let's go then! I like that plan! Guy likes it too," she went on to say, as their fellow adventurer had indeed agreed to go along with whatever they did (except for dying).

Without waiting for much more of a response, Riia dashed forward, hopping over the dangerous looking tiles and going for just the yellow ones! She felt like it was a bit unfair of them to force people to associate danger with things like the color blue. The fairy was very partial to blue, as it was a lovely shade! But it seemed like whoever had designed this hadn't had the same ideas in their head. Although, it was entirely possible the tiles had originally been pigmented differently but had been worn down over time. What with being absorbed by her thoughts and letting her body and muscle memory take over, Riia made it over to the middle in no time at all. She barely manged to stop herself from stepping onto the enormous band of dangerous tiles, but wobbled backward just in time.

"Right! So that cotton candy bridge..." waving her hands, she let out a burst of sweet, sparkling energy, pastel colored in pink and blue. It began to swirl around and turn into thin tendrils that wove themselves together before solidifying into candy floss. "As long as it doesn't get wet, we should be good! There are no water traps here, right?" She glanced towards Guy. As long as he was at least partially confident that a huge waterfall wouldn't pour out of the ceiling, she would hop onto the bridge and begin running across. Best to be the first one, to make sure the others felt a bit better about entrusting their lives to her confectionery skills.

Prismatic Anything? We Take Those! (Riia, Renji) Empty Re: Prismatic Anything? We Take Those! (Riia, Renji)

Post by Renji 31st July 2020, 12:38 pm

If there was anything that described Riia in a single word, it would be Optimism. It wasn’t a bad thing in Renji’s opinion as it certainly has pessimism beaten by a mile. Riia agreed to Renji’s plan, and Guy was all for it too. Renji’s eyes were looking at the colored tiles as he calculated in his head how far he should jump and such. When Riia started her questions, Renji hadn't said anything for a moment before answering.

”I am confident in my ability to cross up to the more dangerous part, magic or not.” Renji simply answered in hopes that it’ll quell Riia’s concern, if not all then at least partially. That quickly led up to Riia suddenly suggesting to wrap him up in cotton candy to which Renji raised a brow. That sounded almost as bad as his siblings tried to wrap him up as a prank christmas present on his parents. Which didn’t work anyways because they didn’t have enough wrapping paper, but still Renji found amusement from the comparison.

”I’ll pass on that, now let’s go.” After that exchange, Riia was the first to dash forward and cross the corridor up until there were no more yellow tiles. Guy was the second person as he weaved from the yellow tile the next. It reminded Renji like they’re playing hopscotch or something. Renji was the last to move, and by the time he reached the start of the cotton candy rope bridge Guy had begun moving through it. The teen stayed on the safe side as he let Guy reach the end of the bridge before Renji began moving through the bridge as well. It was a wonder to Renji of how so much cotton candy was made to create a rope bridge. All he could do is equip items of magic onto himself and create fire. Well, manipulating fire and healing from it also counted as well.

The bridge was surprisingly sturdy, but Renji wonders if water really was the weakness to this. Of course, Renji never thought about it before as he didn’t even know one had cotton candy as their magic. That would certainly be a subject Renji planned on researching later on. At any rate, once Renji made it to the end of the bridge, Renji was a bit surprised that there was just a wall there with a hand indention on it. Guy moved towards the indention before Renji could have said anything about it and placed his calloused hand on the indention. Honestly, the teen expected it to release another trap of sorts, instead the tiles that was now behind them flipped over to all be yellow tiles. That was when it finally clicked in Renji’s head what this was. His brows raised as his jaw became slacked, the typical expression when somebody discovered something.

”Oh now I get it! This isn’t just a trap, it’s a defense mechanism engaged by whoever was defending this place. But…” Renji paused as his eyes were cast slightly down at the floor. Then he turned his eyes over to the tiles for a moment.

”The question is, what exactly made them trigger it? And why hasn’t anyone come back for it?” It was a grim thought for Renji, but it did make him wonder as to what exactly these ruins were trying to keep out. Of course, there was the artifact being the main reason, but something about this place didn’t settle well with Renji. It felt like there was some kind of invisible dark hand ushered them forward at this point. Guy didn’t wait however as the indented wall lifted up to reveal an empty corridor, and Guy couldn’t see anything as dark as it was. So the archaeologist brought out a torch with some flint and steel. Guy struck the flint and steel a couple of times to ignite the torch.

”Alright, I’ll be honest with you two. I have never been through here before so uh… could one of you take the torch and lead?” Guy suggested to them, but Guy’s eye was really on Renji. The grim thoughts of suspicion that lingered in Renji’s mind subsided for the time being as he turned to face the pair. Renji nodded his head as he stepped forward to take the torch.

”Just stay close and watch where you step. Hopefully we won’t have to worry about another set of death tiles.” Renji jested about the death tiles as he chuckled. Either way, unless Riia opted to go first, Renji took the point and led them down the empty corridor. Fingers of shadow seemed to clung along the walls and the corners. Almost like the darkness was a living thing, but Renji tried not to think about it like that.

Riia tilted her head back and forth as she tried to understand what Renji was saying. There was a difference between a trap and a defensive mechanism...? Shrugging, the girl said, "Sometimes people forget things!" It was a simple enough explanation, plus, the fairy found it to be true. No matter how important some things were, people could not always go back for them, due to circumstances such as, um... being trapped or stuff in a different country, etc. After not interacting with a memory or bringing it up again, certain thoughts often fell by the wayside.

She shrugged to herself as she followed them through the dark tunnels, not minding the dark at all. However, as they got further into the ruins, and the walls felt like they were almost closing in, with the corridors becoming narrower and narrower, the fairy began to feel uncomfortable. Darkness was one thing, but tight, enclosed spaces were... a whole other ordeal. Guy suddenly lit a torch, much to her relief and dismay; it showed off how close together the walls were but also illuminated the way. Hmm, take the torch and lead? It seemed as though he were gazing at Renji, so Riia shrugged and said nothing as her partner grabbed the flaming torch. "Another set of death tiles... let's hope not, in case you die," the fairy agreed as she trailed along behind them.

It felt as though they had been walking for a while, with Riia just subconsciously following the light of Renji's torch. However, after quite a bit of time, she finally realized that... Renji was gone! And so was their client, Guy Stratus. Anxiously, she peered behind herself, over her shoulder, only to realize that it was pitch black over there. Glancing up ahead showed that there was the same guiding light as before, moving ever so far away, and the fairy shuddered. Just what exactly had she been following? The girl took a pause, trying to make sense of the situation in her head. At some point, the corridors must have branched off or something, but wouldn't she have noticed it? Shaking her head in disappointment at her own lack of observational skills at that moment, Riia straightened up before continuing forwards, tentatively. While she wanted to shout out in case one or both of her companions were within range to hear, the girl definitely was not interested in attracting any enemies to her side.

Unfortunately, it seemed like they were honed in on her location nonetheless. Within a few minutes of walking on, she was suddenly ambushed by strange creatures who she couldn't quite see clearly. She could sense them, though- sense them as they lunged towards her, sense them as a set of weird, stringy vines wrapped around her ankles, sense them as a solid fist or block of stone or heavy wood or some other material smashed into her side as it melted out of the wall. Even having been hit straight on by Guy several minutes prior, Riia was rather unprepared for this attack, since she had had no visual indicator of it coming. For that reason, all the breath went out of her instantly, before her eyes flared up bright blue with annoyance. Wrenching her legs away from the grasping vines, she suddenly pulled all of the shadows out of the room using demonic magic, until the space was bright, bleached into lightness. Targeting the golems that she saw, she let out a pulse of energy that shattered the nearest one into two. The others, she let flow a shimmery mist of cotton candy floss, a net that ensnared them and pinned them onto the wall.

Ruffling her hair and wincing as her fingers caught on some newly formed tangles, Riia continued down the hallway. She was getting a little bit sick of being inside of this set of ruins, as exciting as it was. The combination of claustrophobia and getting jumped made for a rather unpleasant experience. Luckily, as she strode up the corridor, seemingly magically she caught sight of Guy and Renji again. It was as though they had simply melted out of thin air, and she wasn't even sure if they had been separated in the first place. "Hey, wait up a second!" She ran forward to try to catch up with them, unwilling to be separated again from trailing too far at the rear. "Wait, what's that?" Riia pointed ahead of the group, where there was a stone door with a strange figure's head carved into it. Covered in vines, it looked ancient and unmovable.

Prismatic Anything? We Take Those! (Riia, Renji) Empty Re: Prismatic Anything? We Take Those! (Riia, Renji)

Post by Renji 3rd August 2020, 2:17 pm

With Renji positioned up front, he didn’t realize that neither Guy nor Riia was following behind until he finally glanced back. Nobody stood behind him, and Renji’s heart immediately sank as he started to worry. He turned around as it was so quiet that he could only hear the faint whispers from his torch. It was a real risk, but Renji decided to walk back in hopes that he could find his missing team. To his dismay, instead of finding either Guy or Riia, Renji found himself detecting a presence that seemed to crawl beyond the stone walls and the buildings.

Whatever it was, Renji felt a strong tug on his ankle and when he looked down there were vines that had sprung up from the ground and rooted his feet. Just as Renji was beginning to conjure flames from his free opened hand, something solid crashed into his side which not only knocked the air out of his lungs. It also knocked away the torch, and all Renji could see was a large silhouette in the corridor with him. Renji extended his left hand out towards the silhouette as flames were brought to life around his extended hand. It condensed into a baseball-sized sphere before it sailed down the corridor and slammed against the Golem in a concussive blast. The blast briefly lit up the corridor as it casted away the darkness. The guardian stumbled back a couple of steps before it crumbled under its weight.

Once it went down, it was like he never left and the rubble of the guardian seemed to have disintegrated into fine dust. Renji stood up to his feet as he tenderly placed a hand on his side.

"I'm going to feel that in the morning." The young wizard muttered to himself as he walked and picked up the torch once again. As soon as Renji straightened up, Guy's face was suddenly there not making a sound, but it scared the living skin out of Renji as he immediately jumped back with a surprised yelp. Guy of course laughed from the sight, and coming up behind him was Riia as her voice could be heard now. As she ran up to join them, Riia pointed beyond the pair and indicated that something was behind Renji.

There was a moment of confusion on Renji's expression before he turned to see a large stone door covered in vines. A circular figure could be seen at the center of it. Of what Renji didn't know, and neither did Guy.

”Lemme handle this one. It could be rigged or it could just be a normal door.” Guy spoke up to the pair before he came to analyze the stone door. It took some time to process through it, and on occasion Renji had adjusted the position of the torch so that Guy could have good lighting. As if satisfied with his findings, Guy carefully pushed the heavy door as it groaned before it finally gave way. Almost like a seal was broken as ominous as that sounded. Yet that did not deter Guy in the least as he excitedly rushed inside the large tomb.

Renji glanced back over at Riia as if to make sure she was still there before he followed after Guy. It was pretty big, but the floor seemed to be littered in human bones. Renji paused as his brow furrowed upon seeing the first human skull outside of the seven sarcophagi. Guy rushed up to the giant statue that bore a shield which was encrusted with six stones.

”Either the protectors were lazy about the dead, or it’s possible these bones belonged to the previous trespassers.” Renji muttered to no one in particular albeit Riia was close enough to hear him. It was ominous to him, but to Guy he started a history lesson regarding King Gen’atoh and the six Prism Knights. It was an interesting tale for sure. However the enormous shield was tarnished and rusted from the erosion of time. If they’re careful, Renji figured it could be placed in a museum, but he honestly was afraid the poor thing might crumble if they moved it.

While Renji was a bit behind Guy of some 10 feet, his attention was on the skeletons in ancient armor that seem to surround them. It almost felt like an aftermath of a long-past battle, but frankly with how old the armor appeared Renji is surprised that the bones weren’t disintegrated into bone dust. Renji’s attention quickly shifted after Guy pressed down on the statue’s foot which caused the statue’s arms to open wide. Which released the tarnished shield as it began to fall, and Guy attempted to catch it. However, something amazing happened as the shield suddenly came to a halt in mid-air. Right before their very own eyes, they witness time being rewinded as the rust and tarnished metal fades away. Within a few seconds, the shield is very shiny even from the torch’s light before the remaining darkness is banished by the prismatic glow that came from the shield. Guy appeared to be in a trance as he gazed into the shield, almost like he’s been struck with a hypnotic spell.

”Can’t you hear that?” Guy asked, but Renji couldn’t hear a thing. Frankly all he could have heard was the sound of his own heartbeat when no other sound was made.

”Hear what?” Frankly Renji was beginning to worry about Guy as he didn’t trust the shield. Guy frowned as he started to shake his head.

”There’s a voice… it is speaking to me.” The client muttered before he slowly started to approach the glowing shield, which Renji’s eyes widened as again he didn’t trust the shield. Renji started to sprint towards the tranced Guy as he called out to the man.

”Guy! Don’t touch the shiel-!” He wasn’t able to finish his warning nor was he able to close the distance quick enough before Guy reached out towards the shield. The skeletons begun to stir before the archaeologist touched the shield which caused the six stones to simultaneously glow brighter. The stones removed themselves from their setting as the ruby sailed straight into Guy’s chest. Renji watched the other stones out of the top hole in the domed roof as Guy was lifted into the air before exploding in red light. Blinding Renji as he turned away from it with his eyes shut. By that point, the skeletons would have reanimated into standing positions and begun to hiss wildly.

Post by uwulover 13th August 2020, 6:27 pm

Guy seemed to want to deal with the door, so Riia would happily let him! She kept out a sharp eye for any threatening... objects, essentially, as he approached. While it was nice that he wanted to handle this possible trap, she felt a bit anxious allowing their charge to just go up and fiddle with it. Thankfully, after a few minutes of examining the circular relief and the vines, he made a noise of satisfaction and pushed it firmly open. Taking up the rear, the fairy trotted through after Renji. She briefly made eye contact with the guy (not Guy, but the other one!) and gave him a reassuring smile before trailing in his wake. Aww, it was nice of him to check up on her! They were buddies on this mission, after all. As the group made their way inside the room, she directed her eyes up at the ceiling, marveling at its height. Even though the area was rather dusty, she could still appreciate how spacious it was! For a set of ancient ruins, there wasn't that much claustrophobia happening here. The tunnels had been rather bad, admittedly, but... oh! Riia stumbled over something on the floor. Her gaze swung back to her feet, and she blinked confusedly at the shards littering the ground. Whatever she had tripped over was broken up into little pieces now. Shrugging, the fairy let out a yawn before taking in a deep breath. She was starting to get sleepy. Inadvertently, when she breathed the air back in, it took a lot of the darkness of the surrounding area with it.

Feeling energized by the sudden influx of magic, Riia blinked in amazement before she stretched her arms behind her back and then over her head. "That's great!" She chirped before noticing that her fellow comrades had stopped moving for the most part. Sure, everyone was still drifting around the room, but it appeared all of their focuses had gravitated to different parts. Guy was talking about... something prismatic, which was neat, even though Riia didn't have the patience to listen right now! Instead, she paid more attention to when Renji spoke; he seemed to be rather unnerved. The fairy thought she heard something about trespassers, but she ended up shrugging. If it were important, he would have spoken more loudly; it wasn't good to read too much into other peoples' mutterings.

Humming to herself, Riia began to step closer to the center of the room, where there was a rather beaten up shield that still shone with a certain inner light. Curious, she was about to approach when a sudden movement in her peripheral vision stole her attention. Blinking rapidly, the girl stared as the statue holding the shield began to move, opening its arms. "Whoa, it's alive!" She reeled back, but after a moment, nothing more happened. Tentatively, the fairy took a look at her companions and started suddenly when she noticed Guy was about to cathc the shield. Wait, hadn't it already fallen... oh, it was hovering in the air. That was creepy. Biting her lip, Riia felt a sudden flow of magic around them as the rest of the shadows in the chamber dispersed under the shining light of the shield. Pretty cool. Now, Guy was speaking, but, unfortunately, she was unable to give him a clear response. "Hear what?" The fairy frowned, before realizing that Renji had said the exact same thing. "Twins!" She sang before her amusement began to fade upon realizing Guy... didn't seem to be feeling right. Being able to hear voices nobody else could was not usually the best thing, especially in an area of magic. "Are you being lured by a demon?" Riia offered a possible explanation. As a former creature of the underworld herself, she knew the many temptations they used.

Suddenly, Renji left her side, heading in a dashing pace towards Guy in the center of the room. The female mage stood still, quirking her eyebrow at the two of them. She wasn't sure why the dude didn't want him to touch the shield, since it was so shiny and pretty... unless, could it have been related to the voices? Shrugging, Riia was about to brush off the other mage's concerns when suddenly the skeletons on the sides of the room came to life. "Ohh boy, no no," she shot a soft pink and blue stream of glittering magic at the nearest skellie, which recoiled before the gaps in its bones were sealed shut with tightly packed, inelastic candy floss. The strands wrapped around its form until it was sealed in a cocoon of cotton candy, unable to move or be seen. From there on, her magic would slowly drain out the skeleton's own innate life force, or whatever pseudo sentience it had been granted by the powers that activated it. That still left, um, a lot of skeletons, though. Deciding she needed to try a different approach, Riia conjured a thinly woven net, well, almost a blanket, really, of sugary magic that she threw over part of the horde. Binding that bunch to the wall then coating it in several more layers of magic, she managed to get some more under control. Taking a small breather to check in on their buddy Guy Stratus, Riia had to look twice when she realized he had been enveloped by some kind of red light. Squinting into it did nothing but almost blind her, leaving the fairy with red blind spots in her vision.

She eventually gave up on making out his form and instead went back to work on the skeletons. With Renji, it wasn't that bad, and from what she could tell, there weren't too many tricks involved. At one point, they began to exhale some kind of yucky mist that made her lungs burn, but the girl simply held her breath for the rest of the fight. Technically, she didn't need to breathe, it was just a force of habit. "Need a mask?" Offering a face mask woven out of cotton candy and instilled with purifying magic, she would just briefly double check to see if Renji had his own way of handling the annoying gas. Then the mage would carry on, blasting the skeletons with magic and wrapping them up neatly into cotton candy packages. Hopefully water wouldn't drip down here any time soon, or bugs wouldn't get in and eat up the sugar, freeing the skeletons. Well, that was a problem for future adventurers, anyway! Finally, when it would seem like the revenants were no longer an enormous threat, Riia returned here gaze to the center of the room. Something strange was happening; the red light was gone, along with Guy. Instead, both had been replaced by some kind of weird red statue. It looked to be rather metallic, and... oh, wait, the shield was on the back of the statue, and there was a red spear in its hand. Maybe Guy had turned into the statue. There were tales, as far as she knew, of people who had touched the wrong thing and been turned to stone or cement or ice or some other kind of not-human-flesh element. Wincing, Riia hoped that hadn't been the case here.

Just then, the statue flew into the nearest skeleton, much to Riia's surprise. So it wasn't an inanimate sort of deal, then! Happy that Guy (at least, she assumed it was some form of him) was not dead yet, the fairy tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and went on fighting. Even though she had paused because they were no longer overwhelming in numbers, there were still plenty left to deal with. By the time they were all gone, she was panting, and surely, Renji was probably also feeling pretty tuckered out. "This was a great workout!" The fairy sang, before kicking one of the un reanimated revenants in the knee. Now that the battle was done, the red statue finally dissolved... to reveal a person underneath! It was Guy! Relief was obvious on Riia's face as she rushed over to their client slash comrade. "I... I'm the Red Prism Knight now," he said, and the girl cocked her head at him quizzically. She had no clue what that was. But as long as he was doing okay (he looked rather enthusiastic about the entire ordeal, actually) she had no complaints. "Renji, you good?" If everyone was well and unharmed, this mission seemed like it could be counted as a success and they could leave!

Prismatic Anything? We Take Those! (Riia, Renji) Empty Re: Prismatic Anything? We Take Those! (Riia, Renji)

Post by Renji 17th August 2020, 7:19 pm

When the skeletons began to reanimate as Guy was engulfed in a brilliant red light. Renji called upon the inner fire of magic dwelling within the core of his body. Wispy flames coated his skin as it harmlessly licks the surface. Renji then raised his right hand over his head as more flames were generated into a swirling sphere of fire. As he cupped his hand like he’s about to hold onto something, Renji snuffed the sphere into a faint plume of smoke. In its place is a jian that held a damascus blue steel blade. Along the blade was engraved with a phoenix like it was captured in the process of raising above ashes.

A couple of the revenants went after Riia as several went after Renji. Their weapons were rusty as two of the skeletons made a pincer tactic of swinging their blades down on him. Renji took a skip back from the attacks while casually parried away a stray spear that attempted to pierce him. They pressed on their assault by lunging forward with their swords albeit Renji pivoted his body which caused their weapons to miss him once more. This prompted a counter from the flaming wizard as he swung his jian that cleaved into one skeleton’s shoulder bone on his left. Renji followed up by spinning his body around the struck skeleton and away from the second one. At the end of the spin, Renji proceeded to slam his shoulder into the skeleton’s armored body which caused it to stumble back into their kin.

Unfortunately this presented a perfect opportunity from one of the Revenants to snuck up on him and exhaled a poisonous gas. The inexperienced mage wasn’t expecting it and incidentally inhaled some of it before he broke out into a cough. Even so Renji spun around to kick down the smoking undead and followed up with a downward swing of his jian against the faulds of the armor. He raised his free arm to cover his mouth with the sleeve of his shirt as he took a couple of steps back.

Renji looked over at Riia’s position and saw that there were a few more Revenants that tried to close in on her position. Fortunately she made use of her magic to restrain the Revenants one by one as she kept her distance. Still there were far too many for them to handle comfortably. So Renji took a deep breath as one skeleton stepped forward from the mob with a downward swing of its sword. His torso gave off a flash of fire before a fiery red coat covered his torso and it had orange-blue feathers at the bottom as Renji pivoted away from the angle of the weapon as he raised his jian to block the attack, and it glided off from the rusty weapon as Renji stepped to the skeleton’s exposed side. As it attempted to slice through bone and helmet; Renji shattered the jawbone. The young mage continued to parry and slash at the enraging storm of undead. His practiced form of the sword danced amongst the crowd while the flames continued to lick his skin.

Eventually the Revenants had circled around Renji before they all made the raspy inhale noise. From each of them a noxious green mog came out of their opened jaws that filled the area. Renji, swift and agile, leapt high with a backflip to not only avoid the combined gas, but also the horde of armored skeletons. The unfortunate part is that Renji practically landed on one of the unsuspecting Revenants and he knocked it over. With a clash of rustic metal, Renji tumbled backwards on all fours. Flames condensed along the length of his jian as strong magic power coursed through him and into his weapon. As Renji stood up on his feet, Renji swung his blade in the direction of the horde that collected together. The flames left from his jian in the form of an arc before it rapidly expanded into a 18 meter cone of fire which engulfed the Revenants.

Renji didn’t think the walking horrors could screech or feel pain aside from hissing and bone clicking against each other. Each of the undead held scorched marks along their bones, armor, and weapons. Even some of their bones began to splinter and crack as there were still small flames cloaked on each skeleton that continued to burn away from whatever essence that kept them animated. In a combination of the two mages’ efforts, Renji continued to slice through the burning revenants while Riia bound the rest. By the time Guy came out of the light trance, the Revenants were either broken, burnt, or restrained. Renji stifled a cough as he felt a bit lightheaded as he was subjected by the gas. His coat held a couple of fresh cuts like he’s been hit a couple of times, and Renji even had a bruise on his left forearm.

A sigh of relief escaped from his lips as they finally had a moment to rest. Guy was in a new form which he spoke of being the Red Prims Knight, and Riia was relatively unharmed or at least she appeared to be. Even so Riia inquired if he was alright, and aside from wiping the sweat off his brow at wispy flames continued to harmlessly lick along his skin. He nodded.

”For the most part yeah.” Renji poured some more of his magic power into his coat which activated the second ability. The feathers from his red coat plucked themselves free from the armor and they glided over to Riia. If she allowed it, one of the feathers would poke her hand before a soothing warmth in a green light washed over her as any wounds she had were closed up for the most part at least. Another feather did the same to Renji as his skin was returning in color and the bruise started to fade away. Afterwards, the feathers would fly back to whence they came and reattached themselves into the coat.

”Much better now. I trust we got what we came here for?” Renji asked the question over to Guy who was still baffled in amazement that he was chosen. In a way Renji could relate to it when he inherited the Blazing Phoenix arsenal. Still, the Prism Knight nodded his head before he grabbed the now shiny shield and stashed it into his bag.

Post by uwulover 19th August 2020, 8:43 am

For the most part? That wasn't exactly a resounding statement of encouragement. Luckily, he seemed to be working to turn that iffiness into certainty! Plucked off of his coat by some unseen force, the feathers on his armor began to swirl through the air, floating over to herself but also pricking at his own skin, it looked like. Riia stayed very still for those few moments, curious of what the little feathers intended to do. Although she hadn't been very damaged by the fight, more than a few scrapes and bruises had been applied to her skin by the revenants' blows. The light from the magical feathers washed them away, renewing the surface of her skin until she blinked and it was back to pristine condition. "Ey, thanks Renji!" The fairy shot him a brilliant smile before nodding at his new statement. Yeah, things were looking up even more now! "Guy?" She glanced over at their charge upon hearing her mage comrade ask for confirmation if they had gotten what they were seeking.

The young man seemed busy with storing away his new shiny shield, but he paused afterwards to give them both a determined nod. "Yes. I have more work to do, the king tasked me with finding the other five knights." Riia blinked at him in confusion. Wait, a king? And the other five knights... he sounded like he needed help or something. Just as she was about to speak up and ask if there was more to their adventure (not that she minded, but it was good to be prepared, maybe take a rest day between travelling) Guy turned away from them. "You both are busy wizards, I won't trouble you any more!" Aww, that was nice of him, but- wait, Guy? Riia waved her hands frantically but the man was already hurrying away, leaving behind an envelope on the ground. She picked it up, glancing inside before pulling out a few bills and tossing the rest of the packet to Renji. "Umm, see you, I guess!" The fairy shrugged and wrapped herself in a twisting whirlwind of candy floss, warping herself to a different dimension in a poof of glitter and sugar.

When Guy spoke of the Prism King had given him a task, Renji raised a brow. Generally when people started to hear voices inside of their head or only they could hear it could be some malicious spirit. Still it would appear that Guy was well and was anxious to get going. At the very least their client confirmed that the job was done before the red Knight made for his exit. On the bright side there was an envelope that Guy had dropped to which Riia picked up. After Riia took her share, she tossed the rest of it over to Renji.

He was a bit winded, but Renji caught the envelope in his free hand all the same. He only glanced inside the envelope to see the money was in there. Riia bid farewell as Renji waved at her direction with a ghost of a smile.

"Thank you for your assistance Riia." Their adventure was short, but something told Renji this wouldn't be the last time they will meet. After Riia departed, Renji pocketed the envelope before he began his departure from the tomb as well.
