    Completed Twilight Time (Part II)

Post by MoRueran 28th July 2020, 4:00 pm

What happened to lead up to this point and how long was he here? He couldn't quite remember. Everything became a topsy-turvy pile and he didn't have the slightest clue when it happened, but he could infer that it may have been as a result of the partitioning he subconsciously underwent in order to make himself more effective at what he hoped to achieve. Is this seriously happening? Is there really this much mental strain present? The thoughts that ran through the red-clad brawler weren't entirely his own, the inquiries coming from the personality known as Asano who was born from the boy's subconscious wish for a guide to help him live to see tomorrow. Asano would exercise the caution and focus that the peculiar youth lacked. What came as a result of it was a jumbled mess of identities, one that was face-to-face with a deadly artificial plague that either killed or mutated anyone who had any magic and one who recently joined a guild prior to crossing the portal.

The biggest question was which identity reflected the manchild's current reality, or rather, which reality was the spacy oddball currently grounded in? Morumotto or Martian Moonie? It has already been some time since he crossed the portal with the wanderer stumbling on an operation to discover the source of the engineered plague and find a way to reverse its devastating effects. Moru remembered that he offered to take watch while the two witches, Delphine and Amelia, rested after the three fought against a small horde of shambling horrors. It didn't feel quite right, as Mars remembered signing up for a large assignment in order to pay for the reconstruction of the bakery he lived in. It seemed these two alternate identities of the same individual have become intertwined and were now in flux due to a number of factors that caused the two iterations to overlap.

Hold it together, there's still something that needs to be done! The headspace sorting can come after we're finished. The boy shook his head, steadying himself by focussing on the current situation. They were currently holed up in an abandoned church, with Delphine and Amelia discussing possible plans to either rendezvous with the rest of the group they came with or make an attempt to rescue a team member named Claire from a cult of bad witches. For the time being, Moru would simply wait until his companions gave the go-ahead to get moving and to be prepared for any scuffles along the way. Then, something surprising happened. A splitting of paths and restoration of normalcy as Morumotto's mind was no longer cluttered with the mysterious memories of his other-self.

    --First Divergence--
Martian Moonie rubbed his eyes and found that, while he was in an abandoned church, things were somewhat different for him while the overall events were still eerily paralleled. After traveling from a town called Magnolia all the way to a place rumored to have doorways that lead to other worlds, the baker apprentice registered for a commission to help pay for repairs to his home. To the shared misfortune of both himself and of the owner and head baker Billiam Feyson, even the greater payload wouldn't have been enough. As a way to pay back big bro Billi for his kindness, Mars was contemplating on joining a guild, something he hoped he would never do.

It seemed that, even in another universe, Mars had the same vision problems there as he did here. One moment, he was following Mr. Egress after crossing through a Wakusei portal, the next he was in the company of two women he didn't quite recognize and was flooded with memories that weren't quite his. While such things could never be, Mars envied his other self's determination to find one of his lost parents who might actually be alive. The domesticated barbarian always assumed that his birth parents both died in a fire trying to protect him from a malicious rogue magic-user. The church would be the point where the two iterations of the same fighter would split off as, while Morumotto would remain and leave the church as soon as his two companions were ready, Martian Moonie was already on the move with the lanky man to at his side.

The activity of the Knights of Shaded Heavens coincided with the number of disappearing townsfolk from Magnolia who were likely kidnapped. Discovering the reason why and then mounting an attempt to rescue the captives was the gist of the job Mars signed up for. "Like... these aren't just a small group of crazy mages are they...", Sharr Gabald Egress, the tall stick of a man with unruly brown hair was one of the concerned citizens among an initial group of five meddlesome do-gooders who was trying to solve this ever-growing mystery. He was the job's client, as was the last time.

    --Second Convergence--
What is even happening anymore? A jolt of pain shot through Mars's head as the secondary personality of his alternate self was beginning to tamper with his own train of thought, causing him to see what Morumotto saw, which happened to be one of the two women-- Amelia she was called-- checking in on the strange brawler who happened to run into them. It seems that they were on the move, with Delphine saying something about meeting up with the rest of the exploration team to debrief and then head towards a warehouse. Martian's vision suddenly blurred, only to return his sight to Mr. Egress and a new acquaintance, a short and portly man named Curio Aegis-cowl, whose most notable feature was his very pink, peachy complexion.

"You okay there buddy", Gabald waved one his hands in front of Mars's face, "You were zoned out for a while, like, you okay? Need something to eat? Man, I sure could use a 12-layer sub right about now...". Curio chimed in, sweating nervously and looking rather jumpy, "I swear... this funny business is getting dicier by the minute or my name isn't Alberto Von Heinrich Francoise Marzipan the Third... and it's not..."

Mars and Morumotto were once again intertwined and, across the two realities, they shared the same reaction towards their current situation. They emanated a heat haze in readiness for battle, their cheeks reddened as an outward indicator that their body was in the process of removing the physiological inhibitions on their strength.
