    Job Info:

Yona Hisamori sat at her desk in her office. It was strange calling this room her office, given that she had never before held a position of leadership. Her feet rested bare upon the desk corner and she had sifted through the papers, ordering them in the rank of priority requests and necessity. Her green hair was longer now, resting upon her shoulders. She was surprised by how much the strands were annoying her, given it was only a year ago or so that her luxurious and long hair had been cut mid-battle. She sat up and tied back the front and sides to at least keep it out of her eyes and then lifted a bent sheet of paper for a job request. Knalla, head of the Magic Science division of the Magic Council, had started a project using a magical lacrima in the desert. The idea of making it rain in the desert seemed at first futile, and then as she read on about the project, more plausible and helpful than imagined. It had seemed to be a problem for the researchers when strange animals and a desert storm had beset the group and Project Oasis was forced to halt its efforts. Yona had personally accepted the job and had decided to bring along someone she hadn't worked with before, but of whom seemed capable enough to handle such a situation.

Yona finished reading the job request for the third time and put the paper, folded into a small square, back into her pocket. Having settled all other priorities and rereading the request, she decided that she was ready to begin the job with Perry. Honestly, she knew very little about Perry, but that wouldn't stop her here. Even when Perry had hesitated and tried to avoid going to the desert job, Yona had asserted herself. To her surprise, despite the reluctance she expected, Perry had agreed to meet her in the lobby of the guild's main white halls. Yona slipped her bare toes back into her white boots. For such an expedition to the desert, the mage had chosen to wear light and flowing white garments, keeping her WFTC pin in broad view on her right bicep.

Her thin and flowing white dress draped over her shoulders and her arms, making her look more like an elf princess than a VP for WFTC. Yona had a silver belt around her waist and arm cuffs on either arm to ensure the draping sleeves would not tangle during their job's pursuits. She entered the lobby area looking for Perry in the busy afternoon atmosphere. "It would seem most people are returning from jobs or looking for lunch right about now," Yona remarked to herself, looking around through the handful of people moving about in the open area. "That mage better not have snuck off," Yona mumbled, still struggling to see him for the moment. She stepped to the side and leaned against the wall. Let Perry find her, she thought, deciding that would be easiest until the afternoon bustle died down. When, or if, Perry approached, Yona would push up off the wall and gesture lightly with her hand as she questioned, "Are you prepared to leave?"

The man was standing in his room, in front of his mirror. He frowned at his reflection that stared back at him. He was trying out his new uniform, provided by the Trading Company. It didn't look too terribly different from his regular attire, but something just felt amiss. "Oh well..." He mumbled under his breath as he looked over himself, one last time. His pants were still white, but the upper half of his body was clad in white aswell. Save for his hat. His hat remained the same.

A grumble echoed in his head. "Geez, just how long are you planning to loiter in front of that damn mirror? I thought you had to meet with somebody." Nova was laying on the floor, besides the bed and had clear view of what the mage was doing. Or rather, not doing. Perry would sigh. "I know, I know, you don't have to remind me." He replied with a quick glance backwards. "It sure doesn't seem that way." Nova would shoot back as he sat up and stretched.

Nova wasn't wrong, though. Perry had been invited- no. He was called to action by one of the higher-ups in the Company. Though as soon as he learned that the place that they would be travelling to would be a desert, Perry needed a bit of extra persuasion to agree. He still wasn't completely on board, but he didn't have a choice, as it seemed. He knew that he would be at a severe disadvantage, no matter what the job description said. Desert was probably one of the sunniest places a mind could think of. No good for somebody who lived and thrived in the shadows.

The young man would clear his throat, as part of his lengthy preparation. That also included filling his pouches with items that he deemed would be useful in a desert setting, such as water. That would most definitely come in handy at some point. The one good thing about the uniform was the fact that it was white, so it would help to block some of the incoming sunshine. However, Nova was starting to lose his patience. "Alright, let's go." He would command and leave the room, leaving Perry to catch up to him. The thief would shake his head and follow his otherwordly companion.

It was around midday, people were milling about the lobby, whether it was going for lunch or taking care of trading business or going, perhaps returning from adventures. The young man's gaze would glide over the numerous faces, spotting the one and only. Nova followed the mage to the Vice President of the Company. She was leaning against a wall, dressed in a white dress, as per the Company's rules. Perry's cape fluttered behind him, white, with the Trading Company's mark embroidered in the middle of the cloth.

As soon as the unlikely duo reached the woman in question, she pushed herself off of the wall, asking whether he was prepared to leave. Honest answer was no. "Greetings! Indeed I am and so is Nova, here." He would reply as he pointed to the creature next to him with a cheeky smile. "Let us away, then!" Perry would say, with forced joy in his voice. It was going to be a really long day, provided he saw the end of it.

Make It Rain Empty Re: Make It Rain

Post by Zincarla 17th August 2019, 9:49 am

Yona wasn't actually surprised that Perry had arrived to meet her, but relieved in truth. She was still settling into her role as VP and the woman was far more used to people trying to tell her what to do, or ignoring her when she tried to tell others what to do. A position of authority certainly suited her but it didn't stop her shoulders from sliding down as she exhaled, obviously more relaxed in seeing that Perry had shown up as she had requested. The green-haired woman flicked her eyes over his attire, noting the tall hat on his head. She was content enough by all of the white and recalled all the times she herself had tried to get out of the color dress code for the company. The hat was a sign of individuality in the face of the uniform which blended the various members of the company into one seamless organization the WFTC. "Still have the hat on," Yona commented as she gestured and led the way out of the lobby area. "It's a classy touch. We can take one of the company's airships into the desert. They are fast and the crews are well trained and trustworthy. Have you ever been to the desert yourself?"

The VP's long sleeves and flowing skirt made her appear almost ghost-like as she walked out the door and down the stairs. If it weren't for the sound of her white boots tapping on the ground, she may have seemed more ethereal than human. "I trust you read the job description over, yes? It seems our role is pretty simple. Go to the lacrima, help the researchers fix it, and then leave." Yona led the pair behind her to the airship launch and then climbed up the ladder on the side of the grandiose ship. She paused to lean back and look down at Perry, an expression on her pale face that indicated she had had a sudden thought, "You know you'll have to explain to me what that thing is and what to call it," She remarked, referring to the strange creature. "No offense or anything, but it kind of seems like an important thing to know." Yona then abruptly turned and finished climbing up the side.

She boarded the ship and greeted the captain first at the top, shaking his hand and giving him a smile. "Thanks for taking us, we surely appreciate it. I'm Yona, and this is Perry." The captain was a broad-shouldered female in tight black pants and a loose vintage shirt. She had so many belts and buckles strapped around her waist, her legs and even one diagonally over her chest, that Yona herself couldn't say what each was responsible for. "And I am Captain Briggs, always prepared for travel or a fight myself. My crew is around setting things up. Feel free to explore or help them out, unless you need time to construct a plan of action for when we arrive to this job. We can leave within the next few minutes if that suits you both?" Yona gave a nod and turned to Perry, waiting for him to give permission as well. The VP had met Captain Briggs once before but it seemed the captain was facing Perry with a mischevious grin. The captain crossed her arms and lifted her strong chin, her short red hair flipped over in a strong gust of wind and she offered a small smile. "This isn't your first time flying, is it?"

It seemed that Perry's forced enthusiasm went unnoticed and he wasn't sure whether it was a good or a bad thing. However, he was very much pleased to hear that he did well with his look, especially since it was vice president who seemed content with his attire. It made it the amount of time Perry spent in front of the mirror worth it. Though it was good to know that not having his hat also white was fine. It was one of the most important pieces of his wardrobe, after all.

The mage and extraterrestrial creature followed the Vice President, who said that they would be taking an airship to reach their destination. Perry was rather excited about the prospect, for it wasn't every day that he got to use such way of transportation. Yona asked Perry if he had been to a desert before and the mage shook his head. "No, I haven't. I prefer darker and colder places and desert only fits that description during the night." It was only partially true. Perry didn't particularly enjoy deserts because of the lack of people. It wasn't on top of his list of areas where there would be people or places to rob. Perry just didn't want to scream out loud that he was essentially a professional thief.

The group walked down the front stairs as the VP was making sure that Perry knew what the aim of the job they were tackling was, before summing it up. The mage would nod as they neared the airship landing. "Indeed. One can only hope that the desert heat will be our only problem." He would sigh a little bit as Yona asked about Perry's curious companion while she was scaling a ladder that led to the airship that would be their vessel. "Well, he said that he was from a different planet or something." Perry would look back at his companion. "I saved him from people ganging up on him and named him Nova. We stuck together since then. Not that it was too long ago." The young man would explain as Yona climbed up and the duo followed her.

The airship was quite fancy, only adding to Perry's enthusiasm. Nova pulled himself up with his head appendages and all of them were on board. The captain of the airship was already there and Yona greeted him, introducing herself and the mage. Perry and Nova would wave at the captain as their own greeting, with Perry taking a swift look at the woman. While she had a bit too many belts around her person, the young man knew that there was a stunning body underneath them. Yona agreed to take off as soon as it possible, turning to Perry for his opinion, as the captain asked him about his experience with flying.

The young thief would puff up his chest, as he felt Nova rolling his eyes behind him. "It's not my first time flying, but this type of transportation has been more of a luxury for me." He would reply as his companion walked to the side, exploring what the airship had to offer. "We're ready to depart whenever you are." He would say with a little nod. Perry wanted to explore the airship a little bit himself, but there was one burning question he had for the captain. "How long will the journey take, Captain Briggs?" The young man would ask, curiously. It was really just to see how much time he would have before having to work under the searing desert's sun.

Make It Rain Empty Re: Make It Rain

Post by Zincarla 14th September 2019, 11:20 am

Yona moved away from the Captain as she picked up a conversation with Perry. She spared the alien creature a curious glance. She had long doubted the existence of other planes, other planets, aliens and ghost spirits and the like. It had always just made sense to her to assume the dead were dead and the living were living, and nothing else was worth investigating. Imagined problems on an impossible plane far away were just impractical and irresponsible when there was so much to take care of here already. Still, after interacting with Haraka and Oykai, Yona was able to admit, if only privately, that there were otherworldly things she didn't understand and her predetermined beliefs could certainly be incorrect.

She walked forward to the bow and examined the lines, wanting to feel protected from possible trips or falls that would render her dropping a long way to a quick death over the side. From there, she felt the ship starting to lift upwards and moved toward the crew working below the deck. They all seemed awake, attentive, and fortunately, none of them bore the rosy cheeks of a lush. She noted an empty space and took a seat beside the young crewman and asked if she could help. He passed her some thin ropes and she went to work assisting him. He was withdrawn and didn't speak much, though it suited Yona just fine. She had plenty to think of along the journey and she was sure that if Perry was worried about what the plan was, he would end up down here helping out too. She mostly hoped that he had faith in her enough to not ask her about the plan because she didn't have one yet.

Yona's literal inner demon hadn't so much as giggled since she started this job. It was unusual for the bloodthirsty wretch to not make some sort of comments, but ever since the time he had met Oykai, he had been sullen and silent. Yona was concerned that he might be plotting something dramatic and felt the dread in her stomach grow, but for now, Ketsueki seemed completely disinterested in making a grand appearance. She assumed he would need to blow off steam at some point, but the mage let herself sink into thoughts of the job instead of worrying about him.

Above, Capt. Briggs gave Perry a shrug and a hearty laugh. "Relax, friend, I was just asking. No need to get defensive. If you're so experienced, then why don't you take the luxurious position of steering the ship around. I can help with navigation." She paused and then added, "Unless you have something better to do. You're not a crewman I can just boss around, I know." She smirked and stretched her arms before lifting up some of the ropes tied over the edge and looping them on the side of the ship. "It is a once-in-a-lifetime sort of place to be. Captain's honor exclusive." Whether she was being playful, mischevious or making a generous and kind offer wasn't readily apparent. The red haired woman confirmed the time it would take by lifting her single index digit, "Just one hour. Magical enhancements have made my ship fast and it saves me money on other sorts of fuel."

Perry noticed out of the corner of his eye the Vice President disappear into the ship's bottom deck and Nova went off to explore on his own terms. That left the young man by himself and surprisingly feeling lonely all of a sudden as the ship was preparing to ascend. Well, at least he would have a bit more time with the charming Captain of the ship, if nothing else.

The Captain offered the thief what he would consider quite an opportunity - to be the one to steer the ship, with the Captain's assistance, of course. She also assured him that he was not being told what to do, as he was a guest, not part of her crew. The woman hauled some ropes onto the deck and replied to his earlier question. The road to the desert would be a short one, it would seem, thanks to some enchantments.

"I will take you up on the offer, Captain." The young man would cheerfully agree to the opportunity that had presented itself. Who knew when he would get to be the one steering an airship the next time? "Your help with the navigating will be much appreciated and needless to say, needed." Perry would confirm that he would indeed require the help that was being offered and follow the Captain's instructions. As much as he wanted to be a little bit mischievous, it was probably for the best that he set those thoughts aside. There was no need to cook unnecessary trouble for the Company.

Although Nova went off to explore on his own, since he didn't want to witness Perry possibly flirting with the Captain, he quickly found himself in the bottom part of the ship. Some of the crew members were giving him looks, some didn't care about the strange creature roaming about. The ship was coming to life as Nova saw the VP doing some of the work herself. One of the crew members was attempting to fasten a couple of boxes so they wouldn't move during the voyage, but it seemed that he didn't have enough hands to keep the boxes in their designated positions while fastening them. The extraterrestrial creature's hair-hand appendages extended past the man and supported the boxes. The man turned around in surprise, but when he put two and two together, he nodded with a little smile. "Thanks." He would say as he finished up his work. Nova would discreetly look at what Yona was doing, while he was helping out. He wanted to try his telepahy on somebody else than Perry and this seemed like a solid moment to do so. "So, what do you think of Perry?" The being's slightly distorted voice that held a hint of amusement would ring in the woman's mind. Nova was well aware that the question sounded a bit weird, but he was interested what others thought of the undercover thief. Mostly just for comedic value, so that he could possibly tease Perry about it later.

Make It Rain Empty Re: Make It Rain

Post by Zincarla 26th November 2019, 9:44 am

Capt, Briggs' short red hair flipped and curled over her eyes and then back over her forehead as she led Perry to the quarterdeck in the back and pointed at the wheel. She needed to use one of her hands to tuck her hair back so that it blew outwards and away from her face, but her other rested upon the wheel. "Both hands go here. It's called the helm. Steering a boat isn't like riding a horse. It's large and slow turning, make sense right?" She laughed and gestured around to her air ship. She pointed out each sail and gave their names, from the gaff to the jib, she pointed out the boom and gave him a thorough warning about ducking if any of the crew called its name out. A small compass on the hand rail nearby was hard to see until the red haired woman pointed it out. "The compass is right here, so keep us going south west for now." Capt. Briggs shrugged and crossed her arms, taking her hand off the helm, expecting the thief to grab hold. "If you want to move faster or slower... well just forget the terms, my crew knows what to do. Just yell at them to move faster or slower and if you need to give them direction remember port is left, and starboard is right." She took a deep breath and watched Perry's next move. It seemed that although she was mischievous and playful, she took her role very seriously when she needed to.

Below deck, on a wooden bench, Yona leaned forward and pulled back on the large rod before her. It turned out she was helping to generate energy in case the wind in the sails was not enough and in some cruel twist of fate the magical lacrima keeping the enchanted boat's heavy speed up only functioned if there was some level of human effort as well. Her arms strained but she continued the work without complaint, not minding the work once she got into the rhythm. Yona had seen the strange creature, some sort of pet of Perry's come down and gave it an acknowledging look without stopping. Moments later, a voice came into her mind unbidden and in surprise her demon Ketsueki beat her to a reply. "There's only room enough for one demon in here! Keep your magical mouthpiece out of my home!" Yona's eyes flashed like blue flames as Ketsueki flexed inside her skin. Her own power kept him at bay and she looked around to see the strange alien creature watching her. Was it the one communicating with her? Ketsueki gave a menacing growl and Yona shoved him back and took control. "Who are you? And why do you come into my head without permission?"

Above, the calm and clear sailing had taken a turn for the weird a quarter hour later. A large squawking gull began to soar by and a crew man had stopped his work on the deck to hurl a spear at the bird. It fell from the sky and the Captain called out, "Nice shot! Nasty little buggers!" Briggs turned to Perry, "Wyning Gulls," She explained, "Pests of the sky in small numbers, but I've come across a flock of them before. Nearly took out my whole ship, but I squashed them good and ate them for supper.." The Captain was interrupted by a cry from another crew member. It was the crew-woman at the top of the tallest mast, "Look! Captain!" Sure enough, a group of about fifteen of the white birds emerged from an equally white cloud. They were hard to see at first but the motion of their wings made them easily visible now. She made a face, "Damn, I had to open my mouth and shoot my own luck. Tell me you can throw a spear or something at least. Handle them before they touch the boat." With her command in place, she took hold of the helm with a determined expression.

The captain of the ship presented Perry with the steering wheel, or rather the helm. The young man listened to what was being explained. He looked around the ship as the woman explained and named everything. It was quite a bit for somebody who was not familiar with the profession. He made sure to remember her warning and glanced over the compass, as the Captain took her hand off of the helm. The thief took hold of it instead, making sure it didn't move and make the whole ship go off course. Captain Briggs also told Perry to just yell to the crew, if he wanted to change the vessel's speed. He did his best to take a mental note of everything. He didn't want to disappoint the Captain, after all. "I will do my best, Captain!"

In the meantime, Nova didn't quite get the reply he was expecting. Instead of the woman's voice he felt a hint of something else, before she spoke up. It made him realise that not everybody would be too pleased with sudden telepathy. Perhaps he got too used with talking to just Perry all the time. "Uh... Apologies. I'm Nova. Perry's friend." He would explain. "I'll ask for permission now, then, to talk to you. I can only communicate with people via telepathy. You wouldn't understand my normal speech." He would continue, while asking for the permission.

The flight was relatively peaceful for Perry, who kept an eye on their course and speed. There was nothing that needed adjusting based on his own judgement, so he didn't need to be yelling at the crew. A large bird made an appearance, which was promptly speared down by one of the members of the crew. Captain Briggs called it Wyning Gull and gave Perry a warning, but the story that followed afterwards was cut short by a yell from a crew member who gave them a heads up about a flock of gulls that were headed their way. It was a group of roughly fifteen of those birds, making Perry frown. That was a lot of targets. The Captain took hold of helm, wishing that the thief was capable of doing something. "I'll see what I can do."

Unfortunately, a lot of his tricks wouldn't help. His void spike wouldn't attach to air and his favourite shapeshifting antics would do no good. The crew was mobilising and grabbing throwing spears. Perry considered taking one himself, but he decided to lob two shadowy balls in the direction of the flock. There were enough of the birds for both of the balls to connect and take them down. A number of spears were launched by crew from the edge of the vessel. The number of the birds lowered, but there still were gulls wanting a piece of the sails. Perry conjured an another ball of void, this one enveloped by a purple flame and threw it at an another gull. The ball burned its feathers, making it plummet downwards.

The young man frowned. He didn't want to exhaust himself too much, before they reached their destination. Thus, he reached for one of the spears that the crew brought out and joined the throwing contest. Some of the gulls flew above them, as they didn't manage to get them all in time, but once they switched the sides of the airship, with their combined effort they got the rest of them. The Captain made sure that the ship stayed on course, while the rest of the crew busied themselves with the sudden problem they had. "Are all of the sails alright? As well as the crew?" Perry called out, as he lowered the spear he was still holding onto. "Aye!" A man yelled back and the thief was glad that there were no damages. Or at least damages that were readily apparent and dangerous.
