And Her Days Are Numbered... [B-Rank Job | Kenzo] Empty And Her Days Are Numbered... [B-Rank Job | Kenzo]

Post by Addre 27th March 2020, 11:51 am

    Job Info:
It hadn’t been too long since the midlife Demon Slayer had set foot in Dies Irae’s headquarters in Amber Island, exclaimed his presence and joined its ranks as a Neophyte. He had settled in his room on the quarters, calmed down and finally gotten a good night’s rest for once… maybe that wasn’t true, after all. As a matter of fact, if not for the intense exhaustion he suffered from yesterday, then he would’ve gone into duty immediately after gaining his Guild Mark. However, a nap was necessary… but now, he was well-rested and ready for action.

Thankfully, his match with Nico had given him insight on his level of strength as of right now. His Demon Slayer Magic needed improvement, and so did his physical capabilities. On top of that, he wanted to learn how to heal like Illya… there were many things to consider. Al-Kidra hadn’t really done a great job and explaining the specific details, fields and limitations of Demon Slayer Magic, so JJ had to feel his way around from now on concerning what he could or could not perform.

JJ had never met another Demon Slayer before, though. And he never expected to meet another one as soon as in this first mission of his as a Dies Irae Neophyte. It all began when he woke up again, stretched, geared up with his brand-new Dies Irae uniform and went to execute a request sent to them from town elders of a small village in the Phoenix Mountains. They had reported the vanishes of young kids from their village, and they were getting paranoid and wanted to find the kids or at least find out what or who was the cause of these disappearances. The village was located around a rural area, and many of the townsfolk were accusing the rural folk who lived alongside them for the kids’ absence, vilely blaming them for having eaten the kids to have survived the winter. JJ couldn’t help but adjust his cap a little, letting the shadow it brought over his face cover more and more as the topic of young kids being taken away like that put him at odds. A lot.

Who the hell thought that they, too, could be the judge over strangers’ lives?

As a way to get more acquainted with the guild and its forces, he was to team up with Kenzo Yonokaze. Now, finding lost kids who - veeeeeeeery suggestively - might’ve been kidnapped by someone, at least from JJ’s perspective and hunch, he was a little worried of the possibility that they would find the culprit who was behind the mass kidnappings and likely have to deal with him in violent combat. That was why he asked Kenzo, during their late-game walk across the mountain roads towards the village after having sailed all the way from Amber Island, about his magic and everything - obviously having started off with a greeting and mentioning his name, assuring Kenzo that JJ was fine for a nickname:

“I… am a relatively new member of Dies Irae. This is actually my first official mission as a mage, so… please, I hope that you can bear with me.” His voice sounded low, humble and open for any kind of response, really. “… *sniff sniff*… Your magic smells worryingly lots like mine.” He quickly pulled up a notebook and readied a small pen to write down with, curious on why Kenzo’s magic smelled like his own.

“What kind of magic do you possess, if I may ask?”

Kenzo hadn't yet spent more than about a month in his new guild, but he was becoming more and more familiar with it. His room was beginning to feel more like home than anything else in more than ten years. Of course, it being nearly triple the size of his last apartment was quite helpful towards that end. The few guild members he spent time with were becoming close to friends, and he already expected a few of them to become more than that. He expected the guild to become like a new family to him.

But, he'd never expected to be approached for a job. The Demon Slayer had only become C-rank, according to some list the Magic Council held, or something, a few weeks ago. Not long after he'd achieved the internal guild rank of Soldier. He'd expected to continue approaching potential partners for jobs for at least another month.

He certainly didn't expect to be approached by another Demon Slayer, like himself. Of course, he'd known others existed. Almoth hadn't ever outright stated that there were, but he'd hinted at it. And after joining the ranks of Dies Irae, he'd heard rumors of people using magic that sounded a lot like his.

So when Jariel - or JJ, Kenzo reminded himself - approached him, he could immediately smell the other Demon Slayer's aura. It smelled like...  the scent of a pool of water deep below the earth, like a cistern, mixed with the odor of a well-tended grove. It smelled... Pure. It should be expected, given the holy nature of the magic. But his sharp sense of smell detected something lurking below, the faintest hint of sulfur. That was to be expected as well. From what he knew, Demon Slayer magic tainted the user the more it was used. Or perhaps it was simply a leftover from the Demon Slayer's encounters with a demon.

In response to JJ's question, Kenzo extended a hand before him, palm upwards, and made a barest effort of will. A white spark snapped into existence, then kindled into a pure white flame the size of a torch blaze, hovering bare centimeters above his flesh. The flame gave off an aura of radiant purity, accompanied by the pure, clean scent of burning incense and woodsmoke.

"Like you, I use Demon Slayer magic, my element being that of fire."
Kenzo said in a calm, quiet voice, allowing the flame to burn for a few moments before closing his fist and snuffing it out. In it's absence lingered the smell of smoke, sharpened slightly by a whiff of sulfur. "I never thought I would meet another one of... our kind. From what I hear, Slayers in general are rather rare." Kenzo gave a soft sigh, accompanied by a slight shake of his head.

"Was your experience like mine, I wonder... If so, you have my most sincere sympathies." He said quietly, barely holding back a shudder. The thought that others experienced the same kind of torment he went through with his erstwhile mentor was not a kind one. He wouldn't wish the pain on even his worst enemy.

And Her Days Are Numbered... [B-Rank Job | Kenzo] Empty Re: And Her Days Are Numbered... [B-Rank Job | Kenzo]

Post by Addre 29th March 2020, 10:46 am

It was a strange phenomenon that the first person that JJ went on a mission with - thus the first person he saw as a colleague - was another Demon Slayer. Did… was this some kind of effect of Demon Slayer Magic? He was, frankly, thinking a little too deep into it… since Demon Slayer Magic sought out to slay demons, it wouldn’t be too farfetched to say that it tracked down demons just as efficiently. JJ hadn’t met another demon after Al-Kidra personally, but he had seen his fair share of passers-by across Crocus and Hargeon Town. They were… quite more common here. Not a threat to anyone, but treated like citizens. This wasn’t the case in the village where he came from…

Demons weren’t really seen as citizens there. However, that was a result of mixed, political beliefs, and he was stuck to his village for the most of his life up until now. No way that he knew how it was in other villages or in the three great cities…

How was Kenzo’s experience with demons? Maybe JJ should have asked about that next… but he now got a reply to his previous question. The element that Kenzo held was that of fire, so JJ assumed that he was a wizard who focused on dealing damage for the most part. Fire was a dangerous element to control; it quickly incinerated, and it was difficult to put out once it had reached abnormal width.

The fire that Kenzo manifested in his palm smelled like sulfur. It was white and bright and looked like it could burn away a person’s sins…

However, his next question made JJ’s eyes widen up. The same experience… as his? Had Kenzo also been through a strange and traumatic experience including the murder of a child? JJ was surprised that Kenzo expected such an experience from him… unless if what Kenzo went through was different.

“U-Uhh… I guess,” JJ responded politely, tipping his cap slightly, “But I think that our experiences are different, still. Not two men are the same in this world…” He breathed in through his nostrils to clear his mind once more and focus on the task ahead of him and Kenzo… for the destination was visible now…

The village located on the foot of the Phoenix Mountains. Upon walking across the dusty road towards it, nature began surrounding them with only the cottages further ahead, the fences and the road itself being manmade. There were people near the small entrance to the village; a woman and two kids alongside her as well as an elder male accompanying them. The elder male and the woman almost clutched onto their kids out of fear… and given by the content of the request, JJ could understand their worry.

“Kenzo…” JJ spoke up sharply, looking at his guildmate with shining pupils, “Let’s solve this quick. Maybe if we talk to both the villagers and the rural people, then we can find a starting line and track the source of these kidnappings down from there…” A detail on the request was that people thought that the people who lived inside the stony, rural area around them had eaten the missing kids. If that was true, then meeting them and addressing the duty would alert them to be either A: wary of their tongues or B: silently hostile and attempt to sniff them out for trying to find out.

    “Where should we start…?”

Like JJ, Kenzo also took a moment to clear his mind, preparing himself for the work ahead of them. He took a deep breath, using the sensation of filling his lungs as an anchor point to focus his thoughts. Within a few seconds, he was ready, just in time for them to enter the village that was the target of their quest.

Seeing the distrust in the eyes of the villagers, especially the woman who drew her children away from the two wizards, brought a sharp pang to Kenzo's chest. These people should be happy and carefree, not worried and afraid. When his colleague requested that the pair solve the case quickly, Kenzo readily agreed.

"Yes." he replied. "For now, keep it under wraps that we're wizards. These village folk are just superstitious and mistrustful enough to blame us for the disappearances. And we wouldn't want to tip off the actual perpetrators, in case they decide to do something drastic. For now... let's say we are reporters for a newspaper to cover our questions. We're here to do an article spotlighting the village, and we haven't heard anything about the kidnappings. That should alleviate most of the suspicion."

Kenzo paused a moment, looking around the small town. "I think the natural place to start would be with the village headman, or the town governor. He should know the most about the town and what's going on." With a slight nod, the Demon Slayer began walking towards the largest house he could see, which was likely to belong to the town's leader. Along the way, the two strangers were met with more suspicious stares, even some outright hostile ones, as parents and caretakers sheltered their children, who looked upon the newcomers with wide-eyed, innocent confusion. The fire mage did his best to put on a disarming smile as he nodded politely to one elderly man. Somewhat to his own surprise, he seemed to do okay, as the gentleman returned his nod with what seemed to be instinctive speed and turned away.

After a short while of walking, the two wizards reached the house, and Kenzo once again took the lead, stepping forward and knocking politely on the door, keeping his smile on his face. In the spare moments between his knocking and when the door was opened, he checked his reflection in the glass window in the center of the door. The smile did much to soften the naturally sharp planes and angles of his face, making him look more handsome than harsh, as he usually appeared. In his opinion, anyway.

The door was answered after a few minutes, and a middle-aged gentleman with a long black beard, mixed liberally with silver and red, appeared before them. Despite his best efforts to appear polite and genial, suspicion was clear in his gaze.
"Hello there, gentlemen. I'm Governor Astow. What can I do for you?" he asked.

Kenzo took a brief moment to refresh his smile, then extended his hand, which Astow hesitated a bare moment before taking and shaking with a firm grip. "My name is Dav Ofobell, and this is my colleague, Vet Sapphire. We're reporters from the Fiore Daily, and we're writing a spotlight piece on this town. If it isn't too much trouble, we'd like to ask you a few questions." he said in his most polite, measured tone.

The governor looked taken aback for a moment before he nodded and waved the two inside his home. "Of course, please come in. It would be my honor to share about my town." Kenzo glanced at JJ with a silent warning to keep up the act, then followed Astow into the house.

And Her Days Are Numbered... [B-Rank Job | Kenzo] Empty Re: And Her Days Are Numbered... [B-Rank Job | Kenzo]

Post by Addre 4th April 2020, 9:04 am

They both agreed to doing their best in solving the case of the missing kids in this village as efficiently as possible now. This was obviously something that they decided the moment they picked up the quest, but just to strengthen each other’s spirits, it was reassured once more. With that settled, Kenzo stated a rational point about their identities as Dies Irae Wizards and that they shouldn’t say that they were wizards. If this village was this secluded from larger populations, then perhaps it didn’t deal with as much magic as one would think of to begin with. Maybe the villagers would grow even more paranoid if they assumed the cause to be magical in nature or the works of a mage among themselves, in which other wizards from outside such as JJ and Kenzo wouldn’t exactly give them a sense of security.

Whoever or whatever this source of issues was, they were bound to take it down. JJ exhaled with a slight tension building up in him from the thoughts of a wizard having kidnapped kids and, thus, abusing his or her powers as a wizard and deeming themselves dark and evil in nature.

Therefore, JJ was in on the idea of pretending to be a reporter for a newspaper. They could always pretend to work for the Sorceror’s Magazine that JJ already read regularly - with the latest issue having contained a rather ‘meh’ response to his curious question about the symbol of the Rune Knights - and at first upon visiting the village headman, JJ thought that it would be a little fishy for the poor lead figure of the village to get guests from outside during these times. It would be like reporters visiting a village after a genocide… okay, maybe not…

What was he saying? He couldn’t decide what people felt over the loss of young children. They must’ve been devastated, wishing to take their sons’ and daughters’ places instead.

It only strengthened the Demon Slayer’s resolve. It only strengthened the clenched fist that he was discreetly hiding away as he smiled too, attempting to look calm and refreshed.

The two of them were led into the house of the governor’s house, and Jariel decided to bring out his notebook to take notes. His pen swiftly spun between his fingers as he wanted to start off by asking first, making his and Kenzo’s roles as reporters more organic and dynamic, which would definitely help convince the governor even further to let them get info that they needed to track down the source of these kidnappings.

“Thank you for your hospitality, sayyid. As my colleague revealed to you, we’re planning to write a spotlight piece on this town of yours. We’ve done it with countless other locations too, but… allow me to go straight to the questions that we’ve prepared.” Poking a page on his notebook, he took a quick breath and straightened his back to look as professional as possible.

“We’re not particularly familiar with this village, so we’d like to get a summary on how things are for the society, its finances and overall quality of life. The reason for this is that for small towns and villages, they’re often overshadowed by the larger cities. If we could make the citizens open their eyes for smaller settlements, then that would definitely allow you to poke up in the map a little more.” JJ’s choice of words and speaking sounded like a journalist who wanted a bright story on an idyllic, utopian village that the people of Fiore should know about, which… well, he hadn’t asked the governor. Why?

Because most journalists were impatient like that. The governor was definitely convinced…

Kenzo gave his companion a curious glance as JJ started speaking. The fact that the other Demon Slayer had so readily adopted the cover of a journalist was interesting. What with the sharp questions and the notebook, if Kenzo hadn't known better, he would easily mistake JJ as an actual, bona fide reporter. He gave a slight nod, then returned his attention to the governor, waiting to hear his answer.

The governor again looked taken aback, but responded readily. "Well, as you said, our town is rather small, compared to others. Our main exports are minerals and gemstones, mined from the mountains nearby. We export them in raw form, but also in processed states. Our town has both a blacksmith and a whitesmith, who use the iron and tin we mine to create functional goods. Our town jeweler doubles as a silver- and goldsmith, processing the gemstones and precious metals and creating articles of jewelry. It is a prosperous trade, meaning that despite the fact we are a small town, our financial state is comparable to a larger village."

Kenzo's ears metaphorically perked up at the mention of mines. Plenty of nasty things, and nasty people, chose to make their hideouts in caves and mines. They were dark, dank and confined, instilling a sense of claustrophobia in any... guests. If Kenzo was a monster or dark wizard kidnapping children, he would choose a mine to set up in. Preferably an abandoned one, to cut down on unwanted intruders. He leaned forward in interest, ignoring the twinging phantom pain in his old scars. He hated caves.

"Mines, you say?" he asked. "Our records show that this village has been around for a very long time. Long enough that most buildings are constructed of quarried stone, rather than the more commonly-used wood and thatch, and some of that stone is quite weathered. Given the age of the town, there must be quite an extensive system of mines in the mountains. Would you perhaps have a map of the mines? If we could print a high-resolution image of it in our article, it may help readers understand just how old, and how prosperous, this village is."

Astow seemed both pleased and surprised at Kenzo's keen observations. "Of course we have a map. And yes, the cave system is quite large and complex, as our miners followed the natural veins of ores and gems as they tunneled. However, many of them have since been abandoned as they ran dry of valuables. If you would please give me just a moment, I'll go retrieve the map for you." he said, heaving himself out of his chair and heading back into his office, giving the two Demon Slayers a moment alone.

"Those mines are our best bet." Kenzo spoke quietly. "I'd bet you anything the culprit is holed up in an abandoned mineshaft. They have just the kind of environment a kidnapper would use to instill fear in their victims, they're enclosed with plenty of points to lay traps and ambushes against intruders, and they're both out of the way and close enough to the village. Once we see the map, we need to take note of which tunnels were abandoned and how to get to them."

And Her Days Are Numbered... [B-Rank Job | Kenzo] Empty Re: And Her Days Are Numbered... [B-Rank Job | Kenzo]

Post by Addre 13th April 2020, 5:09 am

Jackpot! JJ’s little play as a reporter was convincing enough, and the governor responded naturally as if JJ really was a reporter in his eyes. So this town had a fairly large export of gems and ores from their mining work… JJ wasn’t quick enough to pick up on the hint that the possible kidnapper could have used the mines for shelter. He was temporarily reminded of the mines back in his village in Desierto, a place where they frequently brought up diamonds. However, he quickly shook that small thought away and focused on the task at hand, and luckily, while JJ didn’t spot it sooner, Kenzo brought up a very interesting statement.

The mines… yes, that was it! If the kids had been kidnapped by a person, then said person would likely have had to hide somewhere without getting spotted. This village was pretty packed, and most people knew what their neighbors were up to - definitely not suitable to hide kidnapped kids in a random house here, even if they were in the basement. Someone would’ve spotted them… but the mines were likely outside of the village zone. Idealistic.

And luckily, the mines were confirmed to have been old and used for quite a long time. A lot of deserted tunnels were possibly present there, and the governor was more than happy to show them a map. JJ looked at Kenzo who shared his thoughts with the other Demon Slayer, and he nodded in agreement. It was more than likely… it was almost critically correct that the culprit would be down there. Now…

He would hope that the kids who were kidnapped were, somewhat, safe enough to be able to return to their families once that the two soldiers of Dies Irae had brought down the kidnapped.

The governor quickly returned to the table and laid down the map - it was hand-drawn and had marked many key points; entrances, alternate exits, meeting room, tool room, gold tunnel, silver tunnel, iron tunnel, copper tunnel… this mine looked like a web of tunnels with a myriad of materials. However, the key of the key points was that most of the drawn map was drawn in black except the words put on some of the tunnels. The words were red and said ‘EMPTIED’.

“Those emptied areas… the mine really is quite old, isn’t it?”

Once Astow returned with the map, Kenzo quickly stood and leaned over it, studying it intently and committing it to memory. He carefully noted the entrances and every intersection, as well as the myriad of abandoned tunnels. Once that was all memorized, he began to think about which tunnel was most likely for the kidnapper to shelter in. Methodically, he worked through the chains of logic, until he hit on three likely choices and noted them mentally, in descending order of likelihood. Remarkably, this sequence only took roughly thirty seconds. The Demon Slayer came back to himself just in time to hear the governor's response to Kenzo's compatriot.

"Yes, it is." he said proudly. "Our village has been mining these mountains for generations. Why, our houses are built from the very bones of the mountains themselves. Many of those abandoned shafts have stood empty for years. Obviously, we board up their entrances, to ensure no one has any accidents. Old mineshafts can be quite dangerous. In fact, lately we've been having to post a guard at the entrances to the mines themselves, as someone appears to have been sneaking into them. Young hooligans, if you ask me, looking for a place to drink and imbibe certain... substances. Possibly even daredevils, looking to impress each other with dangerous stunts." Suddenly, Astow seemed to realize he'd given too much away pertaining to the delicate matter of missing children and metaphorically clammed up. There he was, talking to two strangers all about the village's problems. "Is there anything more I can do for you gentlemen?" he said, rather brusquely. "I have a village council meeting I must prepare for."

Kenzo shot a glance at JJ, then withdrew from one of his belt pouches a small sphere of glass and held it above the map. The sphere flashed with white light, then the Slayer tucked it back into his belt. "No sir, I believe that will do for now. Thank you for your time. If we have further questions, we'll be sure to come back."

The governor nodded, satisfied with that answer, and held out his hand, which Kenzo quickly took in a firm grip and shook. "Thank you, gentlemen, for your interest. I look forward to reading that article once you're finished with it." Astow paused long enough to shake JJ's hand as well, then collected the map and returned to his office. Kenzo turned to his partner with a nod.

"I think I know where we need to look. Once night falls, we'll head to the mines." he spoke in an undertone.

And Her Days Are Numbered... [B-Rank Job | Kenzo] Empty Re: And Her Days Are Numbered... [B-Rank Job | Kenzo]

Post by Addre 28th April 2020, 8:21 am

Mining these mountains for generations… no wonder the map was so vast. Jariel had little experience with mines, but he was a little eager to enter this one - even if the purpose was to seek out a criminal. However, the governor mentioned a neat, little detail; someone had, indeed, been sneaking in and out. The elder man shrugged it off as ‘young hooligans’ who were out to have fun or something along the lines of that. Hooligans… maybe. And imbibing ‘substances’ was clear enough to indicate that these youngsters, even in this remote village, were subjected to drugs and toxins. Why would they ruin their bodies and souls with stuff like that? He asked that question many times in his life…

Kenzo brought up a clear, round lacrima and blitzed a light from it over the map. It was likely to remember the map’s design, for it replicated the effect of taking a picture with an iLac or a camera. Turning his stoic gaze back at the elder governor, JJ too shook his hand calmly and tipped his cap in respect to the authority of the man who led this village.

Kenzo was right. The night was the best time for a criminal to perform his crimes, and it would be the best time to catch him outside. There was still the possibility that the perpetrator was inhuman - perhaps an evil creature haunting the village from the shadows. They could only hope that night’s fall would make everything clear to the two Demon Slayers.

“Roger that. I’ll wait-“ JJ was about to say out, but he stopped himself and looked around the room. Sighing, he lowered his tone and spoke: “Maybe the kidnapper is a villager here. We should keep our guards up… and discreet. Otherwise, they might catch news of us and attempt to lure us in a trap.” Eyeing a nearby couch, JJ made himself comfortable, pulled up a comic book and began reading ‘Captain Underpants Vol 2’.

“I will wait here, until night covers us.”

Kenzo nodded as JJ explained that they should remain discreet. He was right, of course. Instead of the mysterious kidnapper being a monster, it could be a villager. Or, perhaps, some of the villagers could be in collusion with the kidnapper. It was unlikely, but not impossible. In a village like this, grudges could last for generations in secret, manifesting in violent outbursts or something far more sinister.

With that in mind, the Demon Slayer revealed the next step of his plan. "I'm going to go scout out the village, interviewing some of the other villagers. Perhaps they will let something slip that will help us. When the sun starts to set, I'm going to surveil the mines, get a look at their layout and see if I can spot anyone entering or leaving. When it's fully dark, meet me a hundred meters northwest of the village, on that hill overlooking the mines. We'll go in together." After making sure JJ agreed, Kenzo left the governor's house, going out to meet with the villagers.

After several hours of conducting interviews, he had subtly gathered, in dribs and drabs, enough information. No one seemed to be colluding with the kidnapper, but everyone was suspicious of everyone else, even of the governor himself. What Kenzo found most interesting, however, were rumors of a witch living in the mountains, feeding on the life force of children in order to regain her own youthfulness. Others would disregard such rumors as flights of fancy out of hand, but Kenzo had come across reports of such witches in his magic research. Called 'stregas', they practiced pagan folk magic and were reportedly experts at moving raw energy around. One source had claimed they could even manipulate another's life energy, possibly draining it. With that in mind, the Demon Slayer began hunting more rumors, especially of strange elderly women moving in, with collections of artifacts or herbs. He found plenty.

An old matron by the name of Mrs. Alexandria had moved into the village some seven years ago, and everyone agreed she'd been nice enough, but strange in subtle ways. She'd had a large collection of ancient-looking books and grew herbs in her back garden. Everyone also agreed that in the last five years, she'd grown more and more reclusive, until she'd disappeared from the public eye entirely. No one claimed to have seen her in the last two months, at least, though her cottage at the edge of the village, near the mountains, showed signs of life every day.

With that information in hand, Kenzo left the village as the sun set, staking out the mines as he'd planned. Unfortunately, that yielded no further information about the child snatcher, though he did get a good sense of the rhythm of the guards posted at the mine entrance. When JJ eventually rejoined him, the fire mage passed on everything he had learned, including his hunch that 'Mrs. Alexandria' was a strega, and was stealing life force from the stolen children to grow younger, which explained her reclusiveness, as well as her odd habits and collections. His plan was to slip by the guards at midnight and search the mines until he found the strega's hideout.

And Her Days Are Numbered... [B-Rank Job | Kenzo] Empty Re: And Her Days Are Numbered... [B-Rank Job | Kenzo]

Post by Addre 20th May 2020, 3:21 am

Kenzo would go out and scout the village, and since JJ had made up his mind to stay here, having just one of them stroll around the apparently peaceful village wouldn’t stir up too much trouble. When it was fully dark, he expected the other Demon Slayer to met him a hundred meters northwest of the village, and he spoke of a hill near that area where they could overlook the mines. JJ took a glance out of the window, but he didn’t get a good enough view of the hill. Perhaps if he stood up, then he would be able to see it.

He nodded, simply. The plan was solid. “Roger that,” he replied to Kenzo and watched the Demon Slayer walk out of the governor’s house. While the governor was in his council meeting, JJ read his comic book in silent peace…

The sun slowly set over the village. JJ stood up and walked towards the window, looking over the village and the hill sheltering the mines. He had previously asked the governor, after said council meeting was over, about whether or not there had been any revealed activity of kidnappings before. The information he got was vague, but the governor had dealt with people insisting that a beast lived in the forests; sleek and dark-green in color, it would slither through the woods like a snake and abduct children- okay, that just sounded like any other child-eating monster tale that JJ had heard of. To think that some of them could be real, however, was not too farfetched of him.

Would it be a demon? If so, that would just be all to their advantage - having two Demon Slayers here would likely be its downfall.

At the hill where the appointed meeting was met at the appointed time, Kenzo explained to him that an elder lady by the name Mrs. Alexandria had been living reclusively for the last five years. Given by the signs, she was suspected of being a ‘strega’, which was some kind of witch.

“That, too, could be the case… so I guess that all we have to do now is slip by those two guards,” JJ replied, pointing over to the far-away gate where two guards were on night duty.
