    Flann Ó Hannagáin OaqJSn6

    Name: Flann Ó Hannagáin
    Gender: Male
    Age: 19
    Birthday: 14 March
    Sexuality: Heterosexual
Special Characteristics: Flann belongs to a race of elves from the western edge of the Sevenwood. Aside from the elongated, pointy ears found in most elves, his particular race contains a set of genes responsible for causing heterochromia. Some perhaps find his eye condition attractive but it has often cause him more harm and good, especially since Flann would much rather not stand out within a crowd. Lacking any pride in his heritage, he would have also preferred more rounded ears if only to blend in better within Fiore society. His final unique characteristic consists of a grotesque burn mark in the shape of a crude four-leaf clover on his back, a sign of having once lived as an indentured servant to a nobleman in the Sevenwood. He might never forget the pain he endured as his handlers branded it into his skin with a hot iron but neither will the people of Seven forget its significance.

If permitted to use only a single word, people who meet Flann would use bashful to describe him. Apart from his physical characteristics, one will find themselves hard-pressed to pick him out of a group of people. After all, he speaks with quietness if at all, he constantly lowers his head to avoid eye contact, and his body language could not demonstrate submissiveness any better than if he tried. He will go so far as to lie about doing something positive if it has a chance to ensure he won't gain recognition. Conversation with him reveals he has good reason to avoid attention, though, as a nervous stutter seems to constantly accompany whatever comes out of his lips except when he (rarely) finds himself in a comfortable setting. The exact psychological reason for his shyness, however, stems from multiple sources and as such, this trait better acts as a culmination of multiple traits forming the crux of his personality.

One does not need to peel through many layers of Flann's character to discover that he holds little esteem toward himself. He has a habit of grasping toward moments of shortcoming on his part and obsessing over them to the point of believing they define himself. If he messes up a task by accident, for instance, he does not say it is just that: an accident; instead, he uses to justify it in his personal dialogue to describe himself as a person who can do almost nothing right. Believing he cannot count on himself, it comes as no surprise that he has difficulty trusting himself to hold a conversation given that he assumes he will just say something wrong or offensive anyway. This also manifests as a belief that he is disposable which ironically gives him some courage to do more dangerous tasks under the assumption that any chance for a good outcome at his expense is well worth it.

Not only does Flann expect poor efforts from anything he attempts, he expects constant hiccups from life in general. He has never explicitly stepped back and say to himself how awful the world can be, but he always jumps to the conclusion that anything that can go wrong will go wrong, especially if it pertains to him or allies in anyway. Even in the simplest tasks such as fetch-quests, Flann can easily jump to the theory that he and whoever is accompanying him might perish in brutal fashion. In fact, neither he nor a loved one has to be involved for him to believe things could go wrong. If someone asked him how he thinks a city in a far away land might be doing, he would likely comment on seemingly rising crime rates in the area and how the world seems so much more dangerous than a few days ago.

For all his flaws, Flann still possesses a good-willed nature. In the least painful way possible for him, he will at least put himself out there if it means he can help someone. Although he lacks the confidence to believe he can be of true help, he would feel exceedingly bad about doing nothing at all. He possesses no unique philosophy nor does he believe law defines morality; instead, he relies simply on his conscious to determine right from wrong. In the case of right, Flann believes one should help the helpless, give up what one can for others, and act kindly in general. He furthermore believes there are some cases in which one is obligated to stop those doing evil, depending on the severity of the situation. Perhaps because of his pitiful view of himself, he can come off as a true white knight in the sense that he will put his life on the line even though he often thinks it truly will be the end of him.

Patience is a fickle thing for Flann depending on who it is toward. Towards himself, Flann has little patience. It upsets him how long it takes him to learn something new and how much he can screw up even the simplest task. With others, however, Flann seems to have an almost unwavering patience. Even if they screw up something over and over again, he will cheer them on in his own way and wait for them to finish. This take on patience toward himself and others reveals some crucial facts about him. It highlights his lack of confidence but it also shows that he can have confidence in others despite his pessimistic outlook on life as a whole. It furthermore reveals he has a very forgiving nature with the hope that people will learn from their mistakes and improve. Strangely, it never occurred to him to apply this line of thinking on himself.

Due to how easily he is deceived, Flann can come off oh so innocent. As it's already been explained, his bleak outlook on life does not apply to his personal view on people themselves which suggests that he has an almost blind faith in others. He will take people at their word for this reason and even if it does come to light that he was tricked, he would much more likely blame himself for not seeing past the ruse rather than blame the one who lied to him in the first place. Of course, some of this naivety derives from an admiration for others and their ability to display such high self-esteem in themselves and their abilities. After all, most people seem much better than himself in so many ways according to his point of view. Thus, given that he can't help but assume people are of a higher standard than him, it follows to believe that they would not be any more deceitful than he would be(which isn't very much!).

Because he lacks much competence with ranged weaponry and magic, Flann has devoted himself to close-range combat which can go as well as one would expect given his proneness to panic and flustered outbursts of emotion. Thankfully, he has been given the opportunity from a young age to incorporate combat pets in his arsenal and thus, he primarily relies on teamwork as opposed to fighting on his own. It somewhat fuels his inadequacy that he has such trouble fighting on his own but it has made him almost a master in teamwork. Not just with pets but full teammates as well, Flann can fight with a pseudo-pack mentality in which he can time his course of actions well with those on his side. In relation to his opponent, Flann tries not to harm his enemy more than needed and he especially makes sure not to antagonize him or her unless a distraction is called upon.

It should come as no surprise that Flann lacks a backbone when it comes to friends. He can have trouble just controlling his pets when they get too rowdy and he would be even more hard-pressed to give orders to his allies if placed as the leader of a group. Instead of barking orders then, he would more likely fall back on what he knows best, such as fighting alongside his ally as opposed to watching from the back. He does not possess a mind primed for complex strategy but he does have some common-sense experience stemming from his knowledge in wilderness survival. For instance, he might fight a single powerful opponent the same way he would combat a bear in the woods: with superior numbers used from different angles. Perhaps his number one leadership trait that sets him apart from others is a desire to win without fighting at all, though. It would be much easier, after all, to sneak past that bear than to actually fight it.

    Likes:

    • Wolves; Flann was given a trio of domesticated wolf pups by his father in his youth, though, he would eventually go on to lose one of them. These wolves would prove to be vital in various events pertaining to Flann's life but more than that, he came to view them as his companions more than simple pets. His particular pair of wolves belong to the Sevenwood species but Flann hold a proper appreciation for all wolves in general. Rather than see them for ferocious beast or admirable warriors of nature, he instead views them as an orderly creature with great capacity for love and teamwork. Because of his affinity toward them, he has even begun taking up the study of the creatures as a casual hobby. Indeed, there are few better gifts one could give the young man than a scientific book on wolves. Although, he is by no means scientist in the field.

    • Nature; The nation of Seven, where Flann hails from, is distinct from its neighbors in that it is almost entirely a single large forest known as the Sevenwood. Their metropolitan areas even reflect this by having been built into the treetops, with trees hollow out to form buildings and rooms and wooden bridges used to connect them all together. It would therefore follow that its inhabitants would possess a positive attitude toward nature itself but this is extra true for Flann whose village of origin could be deemed particularly rural. His people not only lived in the trees but also survived off the land almost like hunter-gatherer societies. This cultivated a love and appreciation in Flann for animals, plants, and every other piece of wonderment only found in the wild. Conversely, Flann can't help but feel a little out of places in the cities of Fiore and thus he will often try to hurry up with his reasoning for being there so that he can move onto a much more secluded and quiet place, like a forest.

    • Candy; Candy could often be something of a luxury for people elves like Flann who would be more accustomed to eating mushrooms or venison. It's no surprise that so many of the people from his neck of the woods would think so highly of the treat that they would by tons of it whenever a merchant came through the area. It goes deeper for Flann than that though, for candy has often been a source of respite for him. His childhood teacher, for instance, would give the boy candy when it became clear life was getting to him. He became so smitten with the delicacy that his mother even began buying it from the merchants for her son, especially on his birthday. Even if the candy is a particular flavor that Flann dislikes (such as anything sour!), he will still enjoy it simply because it has such nostalgic value to him and puts him in a happy place.

    • Stories; Another childhood relic that Flann still enjoys. He has loved stories, especially legends of heroes, ever since hearing the tale of Annagán and Ciardha. The simple story is that they were two powerful elves of notable repute and valor that met for a duel which ended with both combatants perishing due to one another's foolishness. The story perhaps has some truth to it as there is a supposed tree dedicated to the story but its true worth toward Flann was that it imparted a love of stories. Whenever he goes adventuring somewhere new, he will typically try to find plaques or little knowledge books belonging to the area that might offer him some new story. If he happens to find himself talking with a local, he'll ask him or her if they know of any tall tales or supposed myths, of course. The only stories he tends to value on a lesser scale are those that were thought up out of thin air but he would nonetheless appreciate if someone crafted a story just for him.

    • Boots; It almost sounds like something a teenage girl might like, but Flann has developed a fascination for boots which is understandable given that his fighting style employs kicking. He therefore originally enjoyed boots for their practical application in combat, especially the light but tough ones that could cause a lot of damage while allowing him to move quickly. Over time, however, he began to see boots useful in fashion sets as well. It was especially as he served a young woman that he started to develop a keen eye for what boots looked good on someone and which ones didn't. Today, one of the only harsh comments he might ever utter toward someone is that their boots don't look good but he will always offer to help them correct that. This understanding of footwear and style does extend to shoes to a lesser extent but he prefers to stay in his own lane when it comes to the subject of foot fashion.

    Dislikes:

    • Mushrooms; Some mushrooms are edible and others poisonous and while Flann has never ate a mushroom that caused him harm, he has witnessed his prized wolves succumb to food poisoning from toxic mushrooms. In fact, those very same mushrooms would go onto cause the worst catastrophe in his life which would explain why he's developed a distrust of mushrooms in general. Of course he logically knows and can identify the safe and edible ones but he can't help but feel they're more trouble than they're worth. Not only that, he hates the taste of them all as well but that might have more to do with his bias more than his taste buds. Ironically, psychedelic mushrooms would probably mellow him out and make him a tad happier but he fears the idea of not being in control of his own mind too much for him to even consider the prospect of eating a mushroom with strange effects.

    • Conflict; Although Flann is naturally adverse to resorting to violence, he more so despises the fact that people are so quick to jump to conflict whenever the opportunity presents itself. Not just physical conflict but also verbal conflict as well, such as yelling and name-calling. A great deal of strife for both he and his people has originated from unneeded conflict and it baffles him as to how people can so flippantly to take an aggressive stance when they might live happier being more patient and understanding. Of course, this outlook sometimes results in foolish actions such as trying to negotiate with a powerful enemy who should probably be avoided or surprise attacked more than anything. He does know that conflict is inevitable sometimes but he doesn't believe all parties involved do what they can to avoid that conflict in the first place. This at least makes him a prized mediator during negotiations.

    • Gossip; Tabloids, gossip, or anything that habitually attacks the reputation of people without so much as giving them a chance to defend themselves makes the list of things Flann does not like. He foremost just can not imagine doing such a horrible thing as it would be like spitting in their face or stabbing them in the back, even if you don't know them. Although, he does have a personal motivation for hatting such chatter given that he has been framed for many things he has never done and as a result is now known as a genocidal war criminal to the people of the Sevenwood despite the fact that anyone who knows him even a little knows he would never be capable of such a thing. He views reputation as an almost tangible thing as a result and one which should be protected at all costs. Furthermore, he believes that one should not only protect their own reputation but the reputations of others due to how easily we can damage someone's self-worth.

    • Oceans; A lack of exposure breeds contempt and Flann's apprehension toward ocean bodies highlights this. His home village uniquely sat closely to an ocean but neither him nor his fellow villagers ever really depended on it for anything. There was no port so no merchants ever arrived by the sea and the village relied on the rivers and lakes for their fish. If anything, it was more of nuisance since parents had to constantly warn their kids not to drink from the sea water and that makes no mention of the fear of a tsunami rolling in and flooding the area. Flann also just hates how vast the oceans seem and he fears ever taking a boat ride on one for fear that he would be left in the wide open blue. At least with a lake he can see the coastline and swim to safety but not the ocean; it is just a blue hell.

    • Coercion; Most people despise slavery in its rawest form but it can seem at times that people tolerate its more subtle forms at times. At least in Sevenwood, Flann experienced what it is like to be coerced to do something against his own will and at one point he was forced to do so for three years. In some cases, he was forced to participate (albeit passively) in actions he abhorred and they have only brought him trouble on top of him finding them grotesque. This has fostered a deep appreciation for his newfound freedom and he hopes that neither he nor his loved one will have to be forced into action ever again. He will never forget what he suffered either for the brand on his back will not allow him that luxury and will forever advertise that he has not always been a free man. Even so, his week will makes him very vulnerable to coercion.

    Motivations:

    • Justice; Flann is no honorable knight with a great sense of justice but a loved one of his has been wronged and he feels it his responsibility to bring those responsible to justice. In fact, it can appropriately be described as his primary motivator as it is his primary reason for coming to Fiore in the first place and will likely decide many of his actions in the future. He has already dealt with one such individual within an hour of crossing the border but the man died from his wounds; whether those wounded derived from him or his pets, he does not know but he feels guilty that he allowed the man to die and has decided to make sure his justice will be much more merciful in the future if the perpetrators allow it. Flann will be hard pressed to feel obligated to dispense his own justice in other situations unless the crimes themselves are grave enough to warrant it.

    • Reputation; As mentioned before, Flann has had his reputation so thoroughly left in tatters that he is now represented as a genocidal war criminal to the public in Seven. Furthermore, he has been wrongly framed as having commit an unrelated murder against someone of high stature. He cannot even return to his home country now and has very good reasons to try and repair his reputation. Even if he has no intention of returning to the Sevenwood, he realizes it can easily catch up to him in Fiore. He doesn't intend to make himself a well-known hero; no, that would be the other extreme that he would much rather avoid. Instead, he simply wants the record cleared and have it made known that he has not committed the evils he has been accused of committing. In the meantime, he thinks it better to just hide himself and his name from the public of Fiore as best he can without having it hinder his goals.

    • Anonymity; This motivation is more of a follow up to the previous and demonstrates his desire to become totally unknown to the public. He desires no public honors or rewards and would be happy to live by himself (along with his wolves) once his entire adventure has come to an end. It is also closely tied into the bashful aspect of his personality which constantly tries to hide himself and avoid others in a manner that borders self-isolation. Whether it be praise or shaming, this aspect of his character makes him overly anxious as opposed to his more docile self when left to his own devices. It is worth repeating to highlight this, Flann would betray his ordinarily honest conduct if it meant people did not get the wrong idea in thinking he is some hero. An example of this would be if he completed a job and saved a bunch of people; he would take the money of course but insist the people saved themselves or that someone else was responsible and he simply helped.

    • Charity; Not necessarily the act of giving money but rather the virtue of charity in which one shows kindness to others. While Flann does not think himself capable of too much good, he at least wants to give what goodness he does possess as long as it doesn't overly conflict with previous motivation. This desire reflects in how he believes people in general should be treated; that you should never ignore anyone, treat them with undue cruelty, nor assume the worst about them. The list could go on but the point remains that Flann often has another person's emotions and outlook in mind rather than his own, almost to a fault. He never even expects the same kind of charity from others but it would certainly make his day. In fact, the surest way to make him one's friend is no more complicated than simply being nice to him and acknowledging him.

    • Guilt; Despite all that he has been framed for, Flann is wracked by the guilt of that which he is responsible for even if it has been indirectly because of him. One side of him hopes to make up for these wrongs but another side of him also believes that it is a pointless effort and that all he can do is try. There is also a more constant aspect of the guilt that drives him: his shortcomings. Far more than most people, Flann has failed to meet the expectations planted on him and it has in some situations resulted in family abandonment. Therefore, it should not surprise that Flann feels a burning guilt over his own lack of capabilities. He is almost endlessly pushed by this specific guilt into action but it tends to feed into an endless cycle of guilt, action, failure, and then more guilt which once again pressures him to try harder.

    Fears:

    • Dungeons; Flann spent over half a grueling year locked away in a dungeon cell, with his cell sitting on the bottom floor of the dungeon complex which had been considered the worst part of that dark dreary place due to how little light and food the prisoners would receive. It was so bad that fellow prisoners in cells next to his perished on that floor in less time than he spent there. Flann can only explain how he survive by chalking it up to his youth and small body which required so little food in the first place. The whole experience scarred the boy and now he is absolutely terrified of even stepping in a dungeon and not even for rational reasons but rather for reasons that it seems to give him flashbacks of the event. He furthermore fears he will be arrested someday for some reason and thrown back into one.

    • Expectations; Perhaps the least surprising of Flann's fears is his fear of expectations being placed upon him. From the first time he failed majorly to perform at the level expected of him, he has been so afraid of not performing on par. His entire fighting style has even been shaped by this fear since, as a child, he failed under the pressure to perform well with a bow under his grandfather's supervision and he would fail many more times under the melee training his father put him through. His only success has ever coming from training alongside his wolves which are one of the few creatures he is comfortable around. To prevent expectations being placed on him, he will go so far as to warn a person he has accepted a task from that he will only try his best but that it might not be enough. It does not inspire confidence but it at least eases the pressure on Flann.

    • Attention; Saying that Flann fears attentions possesses several meanings. It firstly means that Flann fears fame (and infamy) of any kind, such especially his name and/or picture being placed on any kind of list to be shown to anyone. He might even be hesitant to sign up for a competition simply because it would mean his name would be known, people will be watching him, and it would likely be written about (even if it's just a sentence mentioning him, how horrifying!). The other meaning behind this fear is more personal and simple in that Flann often displays a great nervousness when people begin talking to him. He'll stutter uncontrollably and even begin to sweat if it gets too bad but this partly stems from his fear of expectations because he assumes he is going to say something bad and make himself hated. The only exception to this rule would be friends which he feels comfortable around.

    • Fire; The closest Flann has ever come to dying involved lots of fire; specifically, he was almost burned at the stake. If even simple things can make Flann anxious, it is difficult to determine what almost burning to death would do to his psyche. He has since developed a fear of sudden fires, especially from magical spells and simple matches. He his less afraid of things like torches which don't necessarily catch him by surprise but he would still freak out to some degree if he was pushed suddenly toward that torch or if someone waved it around. He always has plenty reasons not to forget about the damage fire can do. One of his pets, for instance, had been caught in the same fire he almost died to and suffered a nasty burn as a result which will never completely heal. He furthermore possesses a burn mark on his back from a hot iron.

    • Nobility; The nobility that Flann has encountered has, for the most part, not been kind to him. In one case, he was imprisoned and put in isolation for an extended period of time because of one before being branded and thrown into indentured servitude. Flann therefore naturally fears invoking the wrath of noblemen once more and tries to either avoid them or please them to the best of his ability, like a an abused puppy trying to please its master. Even with the nobles he looked kindly upon, such as the only woman he ever crushed over, he can't help but feel anxious that he is in their way a tree blocking beautiful sunlight. His only act of defiance thus far has been escaping his from his own execution and a personal oath to bring one noble's crime to light in the public. In any case, someone of noble blood who wishes to befriend Flann would probably do well not to mention their titles.

    Flann Ó Hannagáin JXLJkUY

    Height: 5' 8"
    Weight: 145 lb
    Hair: Blond
    Eyes: Blue & Green
    Skin Tone: Tan
Appearance: Flann comes no where close to appearing threatening in any capacity. He often stands less-than-erect in a stature of submission, speaks with a flustered nervousness, and often walks with an absent minded waddle. His small and scrawny frame does not help him in this regard but he does possesses worked muscle in some places, specifically in his legs as a testament to his fighting style and general activity. He once possesses noticeable muscle in his arms as well but they have since withered away in the dungeons to leave him with the appearance of a barely-pubescent boy. His torso, his shoulders, and his neck do bare some traces of having once had some muscle but they those signs have slowly disappeared as he forsakes all for his leg muscles. The only other notable feature to his body lies with his skin which appears naturally tan but has more to do with his genetics since he was actually rather shielded from the sun by constant tree-shade in his life.

Flann's hair has more significance to him than those outside his village would understand. Where he hails from, the hair color itself identifies the clan of elves he belongs to and in the case of his pure blond, he would belong to the Ó Hannagáin clan. The manner in which he styles his hair is far less significant but does pay homage to a better time, much like his lack of muscles do. It is almost fashioned in a typical bowl cut but he has allowed many bangs and lofts of hair to grow out. Nonetheless, one can still make out the original bowl cut in his current hair style which reaches down to his jaw in some spots. He does not pay too much attention to it but his racial status gives his hair a natural silky feeling. Not uncommon from most elves, he lacks back and chest hair while his eye brows are thin enough that it is hard to make out this blondness.

One can best describe Flann's face simply as young in appearance. Its largest point of interest lies with the eyes themselves which, like his hair, give a hint toward his heritage. Unfortunately, the heterochromia of his eyes (with the left being blue and the right green) was something of a taboo where it came from and thus he suffered constant torment and humiliation for it. It only gives him another reason to avoid eye contact for fear that someone will notice them and make a big deal out of his irises. As for the rest of his face, Flann has a pointed chin as well as a small and pointed nose to go long with his pointed ears; the latter is far more pointed than the two former listed items though. His lips are thin and once that along with the rest of his face are put together, he almost looks girlish.

Fur and leather once made up the bulk of Flann's clothes but nowadays he travels with the clothes he brought along with him on his back. Its color pallete consists of blue, white, green, and faux gold to a lesser extent. The centerpiece of his uniform consists of a white sleeveless vest with green trim and buttons made of the faux gold mentioned previously. It also holds a set of pockets on either side which are easily hidden within the blanket of not-so-bright white. It appears very expensive but it does not stand out too much, which might have been a deal breaker for him. Although, he doesn't personally even like the style he does treasure the vest because it was a gift to him from one he cherished. The vest came with more, though, and in this case it is perfectly  accompanied by white pants and white gloves with green trim. The pant legs are always tucked away into his snakeskin boots which were surprisingly crafted by himself.

Beneath his vest, Flann wears a warm, blue shirt with long sleeves and a long collar which gently squeezes his neck.Like with his pant sleeves, the sleeves of the undershirt tuck into his gloves to avoid getting them snagged and increase wind resistance. Perhaps the only object he has brought with him from his home village is his small, green cloak which is tied to him via a set of green strings in the front. It does not have much use anymore, especially given how ragged it appears nowadays, but he keeps it for sentimental reasons. There is not much else to say about Flann's attire given that he possesses none else but he would like to one day have a closet full of clothes to choose. He would especially enjoy some swimwear, though, he would probably wear a shirt with it given how self-conscious he is about his brand mark.
