Sweet crap it was cold. A few weeks ago Tsubasa had begun to look for a guild to join, trying to find a place where he could contribute while perfecting his own magic skills. A place where he could be sent out on adventures and engage in his own without anyone getting in his way. There were several guilds, large and small, and he even found himself being headhunted by a few. Dangerous word, flattering concept.
The Silver Wolves were about as far from his home temple as any guilds could be. It would have been much easier to join Fairy Tail or pretty much any other guild, but the idea of this one intrigued him. First of all, wolves, which— who can say no to that? Second, the guild seemed to have pretty much the same idea towards magic and discovery that he did. They didn’t seem to be willing to break their own code of honor, which was very important to him, and the improvement of magic and advancement of skill was one of the more important things. He could definitely get on board with that.
Finding them, however, was another thing entirely. He had traveled through most of Fiore, getting in a bunch of mischief on the way, and finally made it to a little place called Beanstalk village, which was adorable, and where he finally received instructions on how to get up to the Mountain. Strangely, the general advice had been 'Just go up the path', which seemed almost like someone was trying to make fun of him. Still, he received the same advice so many times that either it was an inside joke with the village or they were actually telling the truth. After all, looking up the mountain, there did seem to be an eternal snowstorm up there which would surely make the trip deadly. At least.
After a night of rest at the local village, he made his way up through the mountains. At the base he picked up a thick, sturdy branch. A walking stick if ever there was one. The trek was to be long and arduous, taking days or perhaps weeks. He would face dangers like that he had never experienced, for in that hidden place he would find the gu—
“There’s a road there,” Ahab, Tsubasa’s partner in crime said. The little flying squirrel had taken refuge in Tsubasa’s hood and wrapped himself in what looked like a scarf, which probably explained why Tsubasa wasn’t wearing one. The little green booger pointed slightly to the right at a well paved, managed road that seemed to head straight up the mountain. Tsubasa glared at it for a moment, with just a hint of disappointment, before he turned path and walked towards it, feigning some difficulty in moving through the snow.
As he walked, much easier than he had expected (though he held on to the walking stick), he noticed that at his sides, following through the snow, seemed to be something moving. He continued forward, trying to discern what it was. What they were. There seemed to be more than one of them. Three if he was counting correctly. He moved with purpose through the path until he found a fork in it. Left or right.
It was here that the creatures following him revealed themselves. Massive, ethereal canines circled stood meters from him, maintaining a distance but sniffing at him and staring daggers into him. Through him. They held their distance, which was so far a good thing. Tsubasa stayed completely still, unsure of exactly how he would get out of 'surrounded by wolves'. Finally, they seemed to break formation and head towards the right path. After a second, one of them looked back at Tsubasa then motioned towards that path, as they all walked towards it.
“Are you gonna follow wolves?” Ahab asked incredulously.
“I mean. Silver Wolves.” Tsubasa turned his head ever so slightly to make contact with his little green ally, “You think they got that name because they like silver?” He headed along the path, following them the remainder of the way. They never got too close to him, but seemed to guide him straight to the summit. “See? Good boys. And girls. Also I think there’s a puppy there. Let's see if we--”
Ahab hissed into his ear. “I do not want to examine the wolves closer, Tsubasa. I am literally what they pick their teeth with.”
“Fine, fine.” Tsubasa looked back at their guides, “Thanks wolves!” And waved at them. He set down the walking stick and walked through the barrier, feeling the warmth of the interior flow through him. As he glanced back, he could have sworn he saw the little ethereal puppy grab the walking stick he had been using.
Walking into the warm and welcoming lobby, he looked around and said, “Excuse me? My name is Tsubasa Kageyama. From Kyukei Shrine near Talonia? This is Ahab. We're here to apply to be a Silver Wolf. Silver me up, please. Who do I talk to to get myself Wolfed?”
