- Maddox was born with a skin disease that causes her skin to shrivel and rot, becoming bloated in some places and mummified in others. Her initial attempts to cure it did save her life, but now her skin condition is magical and is in a constant circle on rotting/shriveling then regenerating at a rapid pace. It also causes a black rotting stink to come off her, which is why she is always fully covered and is leery in messing further with her condition. She uses magic to create eyelids and to form lips and fingernails but otherwise, her body looks like a mix between a black and green rotting zombie and mummified corpse under her cloak. Her inner workings and mouth/teeth seem to be okay though.

- When you first meet Maddox all you see is a weird, quiet person with a mask and dark cloak, mysterious to onlookers. That is until she opens her mouth. While Maddox does have a deep and alluring voice for a woman, her zany way of speaking, filled with ‘darlings’ and a habit of speaking in the first person eases much of her ominousness. As a lover of beauty and self-proclaimed fashionista, Maddox has a classier way of speaking and moving, along with a love of theatrics and dramatics. Indeed, the core of Maddox’s personality is around her obsession with beauty in all of its forms and gathering things she considers beautiful around her. She has a taste for the finer things in life and has an opinion about everything. This means she can be a bit snooty but usually doesn’t judge others' class and style unless they are VERY bad in her opinion. Despite her lady-like demeanor and hobbies, she is often mistaken for a man because of her clothing and deep voice. So, either she’s seen as a man with very a very feminine way of talking and hobbies or a woman with a masculine voice and clothes. Surprisingly she doesn’t care what gender she’s seen as and often won’t correct people if they misgender her, believing that there is enough beauty in both genders to be unashamed about being either. She displays an air of confidence and absurdity with a hint of glamour to others. In spite of her flighty demeanor and artistic senses, Maddox is also a keen academic and appreciates gathering knowledge. She can often be seen reading or experimenting in her free time. She’s the designer of most of her weapons and upkeeps them herself, making her a skilled magitech engineer. She is also the one who came up with her initial skin treatment, and while it mostly backfired and made her appearance worse, it did save her life, making her a skilled spell maker and biologist/physician. She tends to learn at a rapid pace and almost has a perfect memory of what she has seen or heard before. When it comes to social skills Maddox is surprisingly good at political and courtroom talk, able to weave words around like a noble, though not as good as those whose jobs it is to do so. While she sometimes isn’t, Maddox can be very sociable and friendly with others and prefers to be on good terms with people in general if she can. She even has a hidden motherly side and if she likes you well enough, she might start to coddle you.
But don’t take any of these traits as weaknesses. When it comes to morals Maddox’s is rather grey. First off, she is a blatant and shameless thief, happily taking what belongs to others with little care to the consequences others might face for it for often petty reasons. And in true socialite fashion, Maddox can be incredibly ruthless when she needs to be, willing to leave people to cruel fates and resort to cold-blooded murder when necessary. She is definitely willing to sacrifice pawns in the name of her own ambition. Though she is often not willing to betray people or leave allies for dead, mostly since it would hurt her reputation and usually isn’t worth it. And while yes, she can and will do kindness upon others, but is usually only inclined if it’s to her advantage, such as people owing her favors or thinking better of her. It doesn’t mean she can’t feel guilt or doesn’t care for people close to her, it’s just that she is a rather selfish and greedy person and is unashamed about it.
But despite her greed and confidence, Maddox has many insecurities. Indeed, her great love of beauty comes from her lack of self-confidence which is often the case of those who look the most confident. This is of course about her horrible skin condition that leaves her appearance looking more like a corpse than alive, something she’s had for as long as she’s lived. Maddox is frighteningly disgusted by her own appearance and incredibly sensitive about it with others, hating to show more can just a bit of skin. It’s probably because she finds herself so ugly that she appreciates beautiful things in the world more, and feels jealous enough to want it all for herself.
Likes:
- Beauty: While this is subjective, and she knows it, Maddox appreciates all forms of beauty and believes there is beauty in everything. Even then she tends to obsess over things she finds particularity beautiful, wanting them for her own.
- Fashion: Maddox dresses like a dim, deary Plague Doctor for aesthetic's sake, darling. This is because Maddox loves and considers herself a great fashionista, despite her own often plain garb. Unless you dress more shabbily or drab then her, she likes your style but appreciates color and flair the most.
- Art: She considers herself an amateur are critic but loves the arts of all kinds, particularly pieces she can tell people put their hearts into. And by art, she doesn’t just mean paintings, but also theater, jewelry, pottery, cooking, architecture, and anything that can have artistic sense added to it.
- Knowledge: Despite it having nothing to do with the above, Maddox is actually an academic and researcher/doctor who does enjoy gathering knowledge and researching to her heart's content.
- Crows: While she is fond of all winged creatures, crows, in particular, have a soft spot in her and Maddox has loved them ever since she was a child. She also likes Raven’s and Magpies quite a bit.
Dislikes:
- Destroying/Damaging/Denying Her Beautiful Things: This is the easiest way to get her boiling mad and is actually very easy to do since what she see’s as beautiful can seem very random, thus people aren’t always aware that they are about to anger her. Doing this herself will make Maddox burst into tears.
- Her Appearance: She gets put into a bad mood over any mention of her condition/appearance over her cloak. Actively mocking it makes her even angrier than the above offense. This is because she does in fact hate her appearance and the fact that SHE is not beautiful.
- Boorish People: If people lack enough style or are just outright piggish and uncultured, she will immediately dislike them. A little bit of all or each won’t bother her that much. Too much and she might refuse to speak to you or react in disgust.
- Her Name: Not many know this but Maddox actually goes by her surname. Her first name is actually Noir, and despite it being rather stylish, she has some reason to dislike it and prefers to go by Maddox. Despite this, she doesn't do too much to hide it and will tell you if it comes up in a conversation, though she will be annoyed if you use it too often.
- Good Looking People: While this is very subtle, she is often very jealous and resentful of beautiful-looking people for obvious reasons. But she also likes beautiful things and generally wants to get along with people so she represses this part of her.
Motivations:
- Gain Beautiful Things: Like the crows she likes so much Maddox will go out of her way to gather things she considers beautiful whether she actually gains it lawfully or not. She considers this her one true goal in life.
- Power: She knows what it’s like to be powerless and isn’t fond of the feeling. While she’s not extremely power-hungry she will go out of her way to gain power if the chance is given. Unlike most, though she’s willing to gain power in various ways, rather than on or another like great magical or political power. She is also okay with people having power over her as long as she gets some freedom and is treated well.
- Curing Her Condition: This is low on her list because she is half afraid of making it worse, and half resigned to it. She’s been this way all her life and doesn’t really know anything else anyways. That being said her love of beautiful things does sometimes push her to look for a cure so she can become beautiful as well.
Fears:
- Nakedness: One of Maddox’s biggest (mostly illogical) fear is being fully naked in front of another, or lots of others due to her skin condition and lack of self-esteem over it, or simply being caught with enough clothes off. She usually is left screaming and trying to cover herself.
- Helplessness: Being left completely helpless and under someone’s control is a deep-seated fear of hers, though she’d rather be a powerful second-in-command than a leader
- Losing all of her Beauties: While losing one of her beautiful objects makes her fly into a rage, losing enough of them or all is a great fear of hers since they provide great comfort to her in darkest times.
