The return to Magnolia… a place full of memories and anguish. A family lost, a guild no longer familiar, and just the old pain being brought back up of what could have been. The mage known as Jaeger Nekros Kruger hadn’t been back to this town since the split. His love was ripped from him by both the mother and the child, it was still stinging now that the flood of memories slams against his mind. A very audible sigh wiggles is way passed his lips as he strolled through the streets of Magnolia. The buildings were about as they were a couple years ago, only a few had really undergone any reconstruction. He walked by the house he once knew, just to see how it was holding up. A new family had moved in. Two children played in the yard as heir mother watched lovingly from the porch. This could have been him and her.

The man moved on to the main square of the town. There were quite a lot of people out on this nice, warm day. The shoppers were excited ly buying their groceries, or presents for a loved one, or just browsing in general. Kids were running around and waving through the adults. Small critters ran in a panic to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city life.  Birds fly around, chirping and enjoying the fresh, open air.  The blonde haired man walked around, just observing and such for the moment. It was nice to just relax after all the things Adalinda had been putting him through. All the jobs and work, with no explosions no less! It was devastating to his moral, she was a total fiend in a fine meat suit!

Shortly after entering the town square, a crier was heard yelling across the streets. It was the manager and owner of a local toy production plant and in need of help. All their employees were sick and they needed some temps to come and make toys for a few hours. The man was short, absurdly short. He was standing on a few food crates and wore an off white suit and large cowboy hat. Upon his face was a ridiculous handlebar mustache, colored white due to his old age. Despite him being up in year, he was very boisterous. Well… according to the announcement, all Jaeger would need to do is squeeze some stuffed animals for a while, which shouldn't be too bad. And he could stand to make a few extra jewels, easy jewels.

“I uh…. I’ll come help out for a few hours. Just need to test all the stuffed animals, right? Sounds easy enough to do for an afternoon.”

The red eyed, blonde haired employee of the West Fiore Trading Company. He was technically off the clock, but hey, why not?

“Hello there young man, I could sure use it! I’ll see if I can’t get another person or two before we head out.”

WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?

“Young lady,” as she was called by the stout protector of the two women she had punished with some passionate food-throwing, was a power whose reputation and assertiveness was foolish to challenge with a tongue-in-cheek remark, which Vera did well to restrain. “You will make amends with community service and receive a modest pay for them because I, Dimm Dougadome, am generous and believe production is the basis of good morale.”

It was considered not quite equitable that Dimm Dougadome, whose uprightness and saintliness in the importances of right and wrong, would contradict itself and irk the demonized insurgent to no end. “Your jewels won’t be necessary, my dude. Community service is voluntary work,” was directed at him, her tone dryer than an autumn leaf, “meant to help people. So, no. If you’ll excuse me, I think I’ll be on my way."

“I could easily have you arrested for battery if you don’t comply.” Was what he said shortly after her claim.

She couldn’t have been angrier. “Does ‘no’ mean ‘yes’ now? Isn’t that so typical?  I want no part in this sketch ball proposition of yours. So why don’t you just make like a fly and buzz off?”  Vera experienced a pregnant pause. She was a free spirit, a true Bohemian, allergic to involuntary confinement. She had to save herself.

He soundlessly and confidently sought the help of his trusty ilac and proceeded to alert the holy  forces of law and order.

She gripped her hair and sucked in a deep breath. “I can’t believe you’re dumping this on me. Stop, stop, stop! Ok,” she recanted, “I’ll do it. I’ll do it! What must I do?”
    He filled her in.

And Vera did surely despise him, but not as the women from before did her. In spite of the trouble the simmering simpleton suffered from their presentation of her gone viral, there was a scintilla of pettiness in how she handled the two women from the market that made it near impossible for her to defend herself against the little toy-maker's threat of calling the authorities on her or to find fault in his poor use of blackmail in view of the fact he lacked enough employees to run his shop. She shouldn’t have battered the two women with the apples she bought from the kindly merchant for poking fun at her. But when good people forced her to converse giddily about matters she cared little for,  they often taxed her forbearance and avidity to exert herself congenially.

She would gladly have purchased a variety of other fruits just to make them cry some more about how the big, scary purple-haired lady threw all her groceries at them, also choke Dimwit with her edible weapons of destruction, but dared not make light of her pressing case.  The short old man, for the time being, owned her haunches and he was made the target of her many hateful stares.

What Vera wanted most was to finish the job and run straight back to doing nothing , and during the bulk of her brooding she finally came to a complete halt, for what awaited her inside the factory was close to enchanting. Thus the plump bloke opened the door for her and closed it behind them - only after she went inside.  It seemed as if his devotion was the only thing running this place, and Vera made it painfully obvious to him that she found it odd and a little pathetic. “I am not responsible for what my face does when I see an evil lair that is severely lacking in underlings. Did they all die off from scoliosis or something?”

He told her with finality, “No. Most of them are on vac - “

“Hey, it’s one of your only survivors!” interjected the ditzy Vera, moving closer to the much younger man, her voice barely above a whisper, “If you’re a bootlicker, blink once.  If you’re being enslaved by this snollygoster and you want to run away with me, blink twice.”

Moments went by… even minutes before the older gentlemen gave up shouting. He didn’t look too pleased, even distressed! But it just means more work and cash for Jaeger, right? The room fell silent… even though they were outside and it was quite loud from the crowd. The crier climbed off his pedestal and walked up to the only employee to offer up help. The mage looked down, all the way down, to a man that stood about 4 foot 7. Jaeger had to do his best to hold in laughter and short jokes. As an adult, it was pretty weird for one to be so small, though he wasn’t the shortest he’s seen. Only mere weeks ago did Jaeger sail off to an island where he had to fight midget pirates. Now THAT was a funny scene. These little people had pretty much just ridden around on log ships and the way they got mad for his laughing? Out of this world.

    “What’s your name, son?”

“Uh...it’s uh... Jaeger. I am a… uh, member of the West Fiore Trading Company.”

The shorty was visibly excited! The West Fiore Trading Company was their distribution partner or at the very least buy and then sell to other markets.

“I see! Well, I am glad you’re here. My name is Dimm Dougadome, owner of the Dimm Dougadome Toy Factory. Welcome aboard.”

The two shook hands and then proceeded to walk through the neighborhoods to the Dougadome factory. Judging by how little was actually needed to walk, they could have seen the large warehouse from the square they were in. Especially hard to miss given the large, neon Dougadome sign that towers over the nearby buildings. Once at the front door, one could peek in and see the receptionist at their desk, busy working. The front was done with a large window-like display style, a few toys were on stands that pointed outward. They were older stuffed animals, but they were in good condition and quality.

Eventually, the owner led Jaeger through the building, stopping to say hello to Gina the receptionist, and finished a mini-tour at the line. Once there, Dimm Dougadome went on to explain what the mage would be needed to do today.

“So, basically all you’re having to do today is to test the plushies. They need to have around certain fluffiness and squishiness to pass on through. The ones that don't, just toss into the big bin behind you and it’ll be carted off to be fixed later. I am going to head out and try to find another worker or two.”

And with that, the work began. The conveyor belt would bring the stuffed dolls down the line and as the employee, Jaeger just picked one up, squished it, and then set it back down. It was really simple to work, but an important one for a quality product. The older gentleman walked out and left for a couple more hours to only come back with one more temp employee. It was a loud mouth, purple haired woman. From henceforth, she will be known as grape. Evil lairs and all, she seemed to be high on something…. Or maybe she was just weird, probably just weird. However, it got to be one of those moments where Jaeger zoned out, just got pulled back from this existence and was just flabbergasted by the words she spoke. What was a snollygoster? Blinking? The alien in him, or just himself, was having a hard time comprehending. After about a minute of just staring, he snapped back into reality.

“I uh…. Nah I’m here on my own free will. By the way… what the hell is a snollygoster?”

By this point, Jaeger hadn’t been paying attention to the job and was letting stuffed animals go by unchecked. This made the owner, Dimm Dougadome, pretty nervous and upset.

“Hey… HEY!” Don’t let them go by unchecked young man!”

With a sigh, he let out something under his breath, barely audible.
“Here only a second and she’s already causing problems.”

The older gentleman lead the woman down the line and showed her the station she’d be working at.  It was fairly close to jaeger, but on the opposite side of a two track system. So Jaeger got his own line to check as did the grape. He then explained the  job and left with a headache.

WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?

“Hi, I’m Vera.” The purple-haired dunce said, clearly miffed.

Vera was passionately aghast of both the reaction she had received and the simplicity of their designated onus. From this obnoxiously named sod she had acquired the name of his underling and the responsibility of checking each passing stuffed animal for quality goodness , but she also had a liking for cuddly toys and was instantly drawn to the colorful array of teddy bears that went unattended by Jaeger. She momentarily reconsidered her feelings and decided this wouldn’t be so bad. Easy money, it was almost shameful. But then she looked at the mumbling, no doubtedly brain-washed slave of the plushie empire and allowed her hip to jut out just a tad. The awful stink-eye followed after the gaudy bossman left them to their own devices.

The newcomer had made him look mildly incompetent in front of his so-called employer and wanted him to know, without the garnish of words, that he could not blame her for his own mistakes. She didn’t attempt to address the matter more than she actually needed to because she was already admiring the aesthetic and squeezing the fuzzy darlings with childish enthusiasm.  Vera Jayne wore a smile that was unbecomingly queer and unsettling; a great shift in mood. Was he mumbling something spiteful about her? She hadn’t heard his exact words per se but the mumbling was spoken in a tone that was too inconveniently soft for her to understand and made her more aware of his trying presence. She couldn’t help but assume his muttering was meant to safeguard the nature of his complaint and looked him dead in the eye. “You really shouldn’t mumble,” she trilled. “It leaves me to think you don’t have the guts to tell me what’s up. I don’t bite.”

Her words were sweeter than cotton candy dipped in acid as she went about among the collection, testing the bodies of fabric that had been abundantly stuffed with fluff. Her prying eyes of distrust were surreptitiously glued to the exit, but before she could act on her most recent change of heart, which was to run away, there came a mysterious squeaking noise loud enough to frighten her. “I’m not hearing things,” she spazzed, “you are!” Vera Jayne rushed over to his side and watched the plushies roll off the track one by one. The pile that had formed messily before their eyes produced multiple sounds, every cuddly mewl and squeak seeming much darker and less dafter.  The prickly things on the back of her neck caused her hair to frizz up as saw a great big shadow looming over them.

She wasn’t planning on sticking around.

“And on that spectacular note,” Walden gave Jaeger the look of pity he honestly deserved (having to deal with her)  and saluted him with some finality, her voice cowardly and rather thespian whilst she spoke, “I bid you adieu.” As she was rushing to the exit, the plushies came together to form a giant teddy bear and successfully barred her escape by expanding faster than her ability to step around its giant teddy body.

The grape, this purple haired person was a weird one, wait, no, she was a brat. This Vera seems like a spoiled princess that has had everything given to her and was never scolded or punished until now. Never told no and always got what she wanted. To Jaeger, it must such to have grown up into such a pretty yet terrible person. Sure, he was a brat when he was a kid…. And occasionally trolls the odd citizen or two, but this just takes the lying cake. Just the sheer amount of rudeness coming from her was unbelievable, something must be done to correct this attitude. This fruit even went as far as to just leave in the middle of the job! Disgraceful, however fate would see to her, like a big tycoon and his maid. Deep, demonic like squeaks sounded off from a pile that were being tossed to the floor.

Suddenly! The mass of plush rose up off the floor, smushing and coming together to form a giant, Frankenstein's monster like creature. It had stitching all over it, as if it had been patched up several times…  but no one was here to do so for it. This being, whatever it was, blocked the escape, though it only seemed to be offended by The Grape. This was his chance… he could get rid of this girl and save the day. Jaeger and this Teddy Bear could team up, they’d be a great team to be honest. Who wouldn’t like this monster to be their partner in crime? The thing would be so unsuspecting to people yet so suspicious. Just think, The Adventures of Jaegerman and Bear Boy!

The fantasy abruptly ended as the Giant Teddy bear roared and shook the whole factory. It had an immense presence and it wanted you to know he was large and in charge. Jaeger walked up, sensing that he was in no danger, and pushed the woman into the roaring beasts mouth or at least this is what he was attempting. This was his chance to be a hero and feed a starving bear! While he did this, a few more plushies came down the line and were moved to the floor, it was no biggie. Without waiting to see if his plan had been a success, the mage moved over and started testing all the plushies he missed. It certainly was a pain as he had to keep up with the demand, but this was the job he chose to help out with.

The owner himself was back in his office, raging out the total disrespect the grape had been giving out. Though if one were to look up from the factory floor, you’d see him standing there, watching. He knew the plushie would attack, he may even planned on it, Was this Dim Dougadome a villain of some kind? Perhaps Jaeger could have him as an ally as well as the bear. Though, one thing was clear, the Grape had to be out of the picture before anything else could happen.

WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?

“Gag me with a spoon. Whatever shall we do?” she asked, intrigued to have learned that monstrous fluff was the life of the factory and that flamboyant worker was so caught up in the predicament. Her morbid curiosity of what would become of them stopped there, however, the quaking ensued, and fearing what she thought was a war cry coming from the soft being, her traitorous companion turned on her and pushed her in the direction of the beast. It could be suggested there was some fairness in his deed, and that the woman would be the most likely deserving of retribution; but she was too busy utilizing every form of profanity to reflect on it wholeheartedly.

She never trusted that ball of snot.

But she knew something like this was coming. Vera Jayne seemed endowed with the very spirit of the hatred that festered and boiled at the thought of people being so quick to stick their figurative knives so deeply into her back: her full pliant form seemed to respond quickly to the idea of seeing the look on his mug as she fell forward, and not entirely without some balance, and still plummeting, she managed to whirl around speedily enough to smack him in the face with a glance so murderous. She never had the chance to attack the little twerp nor vanish in an invasive cloud of dust. She  looked with exaggerated enmity at the heavy arms, her struggling body enveloped by miles of mohair, and was effortlessly pulled upward.

The peeved bear mercilessly crammed the annoying human down its great maw and regarded the renegade as its ally. The bear too fantasized their partnership as Jaeger Man and Bear Boy, but in their version it was more along the lines of being Bear Man and Jaeger Boy. As for how the stuffed giant got his name, it had gained sentience around the time the young man had introduced himself to the weird creature with purple hair.  It sat down and whimpered freely to him with a mournful belly rub, to which it indicated a stomach ache, as if it had eaten something bad, something spoiled. Vera did not just take it just sitting idly within its stomach. She made quite a ruckus and more so when she found she could not unstick her dust form from the cotton walls that surrounded her.  Her screams, comical at first, were starting to sound grave and pitiful. It was pitch black, increasingly hot, and her powers were starting to become phenomenally useless against simple cotton.

“Let me out, you poor excuse of an insufferable ass pastry!” she yelled, her voice heavily distorted by the ugliness that was her scattered flesh, the texture like colorful soot. Flashes of white, black, purple and peach dust clung to the enclosure and tried desperately to come together to form her writhing physique. She saw nothing before her even after a good amount of time passed; the sound of shoes clicking, with the deep rumble of a voice she recognized,  were all her ears could pick up on. At length she could not say she was surprised as the big idiot himself bagged on her level of disrespect and hardly considered helping her. She might not have cared much as to what he thought of her. What she did care about was the bear with her inside it moving in a certain direction.

“I will ground you into flesh loaf!” she screamed.

It was music to his ears; an orchestra of beautiful violins playing as the woman fell forward and into the stuffed beasts mouth. Though, unlike the classical nature of most orchestras, this was more like a sailor song. As she went down, the grape used every swear in the book, which was enjoyable. Somehow, Jaeger expected her to expect this sort of thing given her attitude towards others. It should be obvious that if you’re going to be a brat, you should expect bad things like this, right? Either Way, she was now taken care of. Now the mage could finish up his job and take off with his new companion.

As the time flew, he could still hear the girls muffled screams of something about a loaf. It would make sense that she’d get hungry in there,it might be a smart move to give her some food after the shift is over. Jaeger thought as he squeaked, squished, and prodded the stuff animals. Dimm Dougadome would occasionally watch him work  through his office window and sigh as the girl was nowhere to be seen.It was tragic, all the old fart wanted to do was teach her a life lesson and she ran from that. “Kids these days” He would think before nodding in approval of at least one person staying to help out.

A few hours go by and other employees start trickling in, the next shift was about to get started but Jaeger kept trucking away until the last minute to make sure he fulfilled the contract and completed the job, company policy and all! He did have his company pride after all.. Yeah? Though, that pride might come into question if this loser ever found out who he was. Jaeger might not be too common of a name, but at least he could keep her away by appearing as his old self, the short, raven haired former single father….. And ex dark guild member. Not many, if any at the company know this about him. He mostly just sticks to being a blonde fool during company hours and jobs.

Once the evening shift employees took over, the mage walked his way up the stairs and into the owners office. The giant teddy bear stood at the bottom, waiting for his new friend to come back down.

“Jobs complete, the annoying chick left, said I could get her payment too. She didn’t care for doing actual work.”

“Ah yes. It’s a shame really, kids like that need a lesson in hard work.. And not being a spoiled brat. Can’t be helped I gu8ess, some people don’t want to change. Good job, I’ll let the West Fiore Tra”

“West Fiore? What are  you talking about? What do I have to do with a trading company?”

    “You mentioned bein..”

“No, I dont think I did; I’m a freelance mage. Nothing to do with some legal business guild.”

The older, shorter gentleman had a very confused look on his face. Did he just make this all up? It’s possible, it had been one stressful day.

“Nevermind then, just glad you came by and saved most of my bacon, son.”

“No problem, I will also be taking this giant animated teddy bear, It doesn’t seem safe to be having it around all your regular employees.”

The owner walked up to the door and was startled by the site! A massive, patchworked teddy bear was standing there and watching him.

    “B-by all means, take it!”

The black haired mage nodded and walked out with his new partner in crime. While the nod appeared to be directed at the owner, it was more so him getting away with his plans. But what was next? His plan didn't really make it too far outside just taking the teddy and the girl and leaving. Who knows, perhaps playing it by ear would be better.

After leaving and making it a ways down the road, he had the teddy open its mouth and Jaeger took a little peek in.

“Yo, you still alive in there? We’re out of the factory, you gonna behave now?”

(Small P.S. to the grader. if some details about hair color and how they met seem off from this post and before. Already talked to Vera about some backtracking on the info. This bit is not included in the WC.)
