Post by Julius 3rd September 2020, 10:13 am

Julius hummed a soft tune to himself as he strolled casually through the snow. Mount Hakobe reminded him somewhat of his home city in Iceberg, what with the freezing temperatures, feet of snow, and less than upright citizens. He was going to feel right at home as things appeared thus far. Seemingly unbothered by the temperature, he trekked through the freezing environs in what appeared to simply be a three piece suit. His hair slickly managed to one side so he could see without issue. His grey-brown eyes scanned calmly about for any sign of a trap, or someone tailing him, or the like.

He had no such luck, but that didn't necessarily mean it wasn't there. After all, he had to use considerable resources amongst his network to find an appropriate guild for his purposes. The guild meant to be at the peak of this mountain surely would not allow someone unknown to them to get so close to guild territory without being spotted first. If so his confidence in them would wane ever so slightly before he even got a chance to meet them in person. Likely they knew but did not fear him, which he would find fair considering what power he had heard of from them. Alternatively their information network could be just as expansive if not more, and they could know he was coming in peace. Either way worrying would do him little good.

He finally came upon the crest where the rather delightfully imposing castle sat. Scanning the walls and grounds in front of them, he still found no one in sight. Now that was as suspicious as could be. Even total incompetents would have a guard of some kind. So they were definitely either over confident or had some manner of magical deterrence. Though his magic senses did not pick up on anything particular, that meant little. He was a fledgling at magic proper after all. Well, no use standing out in the cold. His resources said they were the type that would enjoy killing more...personally. So any trap magic would be a immobilizer at worst by his measure.

Approaching the front wall, he made a flippant gesture with one hand. A portal sprung up to just slightly taller and wider than himself along the wall. Without any particular hesitation he walked straight through and entered the castle proper. Casting his gaze about, he found it...most agreeable. Fine stonework, plush rugs, a chandelier over the foyer. The interior decorator surely knew how to impress. Julius found a modest grin overtaking his face. Yes, yes. This would do wonderfully as a new home, should they care to let him join.

Why would they make Kyra, of all people, a maid! She was awful at everything she did, and she knew it. She put colors and whites together in the laundry, so now there were piles of pink sheets and towels where there should not have been. She misbrewed tea all too many times to count, to the point that Queen Saraphina outright began requesting that Kyra bring her tea, at least so Kyra assumed. Yet she was a maid nonetheless. It was either maidwork or time spent with Medeia, and the enrapturing witch terrified the young Velkhomme woman.

As such, this was a day to be spent within the confines and the shackles of maidwork, the auburn - haired woman wrapped in the fashion Medeia had her wear, saying it was what all the maids were supposed to wear when they first start. Who was Kyra to say no? She was the worst member of the guild, whether by power or by skill or by rank, Kyra was the absolute dredges of mediocrity or plain incompetence. After brewing a pot of tea, she began marching out to the foyer of the castle, her platter topped with the full pot of warmer than boiling tea and several cups in a ring around the outer edges of the platter. Of course, such a setup was not Kyra's doing, one of the other maids had arranged the platter how it was supposed to be. All Kyra had to do was boil the water and put the tea in. After a few weeks of failure, Kyra could at least somewhat consistently get the tea portion right. Kyra at the very least assumed this was one of those times, but it would not be a surprise if the tea was poorly made.

Keeping her eyes upon the platter, ensuring the clumsy girl would not simply trip over her own feet and bring her to a crashing failure upon the ground, likely for one of the other maids to have to clean up, with some of the more cruel maids ordering her to clean the floors by drinking the tea off of it. At the very least, the floors were often clean enough, Kyra found out. She had unfortunately become used to the taste of the stone flooring mixed with tea, and whether it was a case of improving the taste of the floor or lessening the taste of the tea, it was not her place to decide. Maybe she should just ask Hammermne?

Her inner musings were interrupted by a collision with something. The platter lurched forwards, sending the cover of the pot flying and the scaling liquid spilling out... all over the man standing in the foyer. Kyra was no better than a deer in the headlights at this point. This was a complete stranger, probably someone that wanted to join Errings Rising, and stupid Kyra stupidly poured scalding tea all over him! Queen Saraphina would have her head, or worse. Saraphina could force Kyra to be disciplined by Medeia!

"S-S-S-S-S-S-Sorry..." Kyra mumbled, her voice barely audible. "D-Don't m-mind me...I-I'm just..." She looked around at the shattered chinaware around the man and the soaking state of his clothes. "I'll just go..." she muttered, bonking her head against the door to the guild. "T-Tell Lady Medeia that I've finally jumped off the mountain..."

Not totally used to the layout of the castle yet made things like moving from one section to the other or simply keeping up with the other maids. It seemed that Sanguine had trained them so well, while Addilyn was still having to adjust to everything, it was getting easier with each passing day. Still, most of the maids had been accepting of her since she arrived and while that was a nice feeling to have in such a rumored hostile place of residence, there were a few who held a very.. displeased way of dealing with her. What she was most happy for was the few butlers that had been around were the most supportive to her. Rather kind and observant ones, they along with the maids that did like her helped her along when she wasn’t trying to get out from under the heel of Saraphina. But, perhaps that was just her joked about place in the guild now. Something humorous at first, but if it helped her get better at this job, than so be it.

While the actress made her way through the main room, it seemed that two of them were in a disagreement. Now, while Addi wasn’t a fan of arguing, nor the idea of consistently being in a maid outfit, she was headed off to do an audition for a new role when she heard the smashing of ceramic dishes. Looking over, she could see a maid whom she didn’t really recognize at first being screamed at by her least biggest fan of the actual working maids. ”Hey now, cut it out!” She yelled out, walking over to the pair while the red headed girl had begun to sulk off to the door, mentioning something about moving off to the mountains? Now that wouldn’t do. Seemingly out if dress for the role of head maid, she would approach the strange, soaked guest.

The raven haired girl would only get a roll of her eyes before the maid would walk off. She refused to say anything right now, which honestly felt in her best interest with the way Addi had been feeling towards her as of late. ”You, come back here now, please.” She ordered Kyra, wondering what she was going to do, prepared to reel her in forcefully if she had to. As for the guest, that same girl would let out a small sigh. ”I apologize for that. Please, if you need any new change of clothes or aid for any burns, please let me know.” She offered, her eyes scanning him over for any obvious signs of pain or burns caused by the tea. ”Well sir, at least you’ll have a pleasant scent as a first impression.” A small chuckle left the teens mouth, before gesturing him in a fashion welcoming others into a home. ”In the meantime, stay a little while. I am Addilyn Amara, the head maid of Errings Rising and would like to welcome you... despite the mishap.”

Two cute girls in a matter of moments. This guild was already shaping up to be one of Julius' favorite places he has visited in months. The fact that one of them spilled scalding tea on him did dampen that ever so slightly of course...but it was not something he had not endured before. Clumsy maids were something of a novelty for many well to do people for some reason. They seemed to find their antics cute somehow. Julius did not agree, but he was not one to extend pointless cruelty to a lovely lady either. Thankfully he was able to use a portal to catch the tea aimed for his face, so he was able to prevent a look of actual pain or displeasure from his expression. Everywhere else on his body was clothed in a layer or three, so he was at worst very lightly burned in a few choice spots.

"No need to fret over me, either of you. This is hardly something to concern yourselves over." With a flick of his wrist a portal appeared around him at ankle level and began to move slowly up until about neck height before disappearing. As it passed over each part of him the clothes were left completely dry and wrinkle free even. Easily one of his favorite mundane uses of his newfound magic. Some might say using a vacuum sealed spatial magic to clean ones clothes rather vain and silly, but in his experience the ability to remain looking good at all times went a long way towards helping yourself in any situation. "See? Nothing a couple of lovely ladies such as yourselves needs to worry over." He took a small bow towards the maids before returning to standing position to introduce himself. "Julius Ames Reilly, at your service. I seek entry to the guild known as Errings Rising. I am in the right place, yes?"

He gave a disarmingly bright smile to the two maids. He was more than sure that he was in the right place, considering all the information he had compiled before bothering to make the trek. However, these two had no need to know such a thing. In fact, unless there was some need to test him even the guild master need not know the extent of his information network. It was always important to have contingencies after all, and letting new acquaintances see all the cards in your hand from the word go quickly reduced said contingencies. While he remained hopeful, he could not say that these people were his friends and allies just yet. Though were the rest of the guild half as lovely as these two he could not see himself joining any other.

Kyra was ready, finally placing her hand upon the door until she heard the voice of the new head maid, Addilyn. While this head maid was certainly nicer than the last one, Kyra still feared the leadership nonetheless. The order was for Kyra to stay, and so she did.

"S-sorry, M-Miss Amara..." the heiress quietly mumbled, her head still pointed downwards. "All of this awkwardness is m-my fault, s-sir. D-don't m-mind me, I'd j-just get into your w-way..."

She sighed and made her way away from the door, meekly standing at the head maid's side. Even with Kyra physically standing taller than her supervisor, the demeanor dichotomy between the two was almost comical in its scope. The fairly confident standing of the head of staff, two inches shorter than the meek, quiet Velkhomme. Even in spite of this admittedly small difference, Addilyn's confidence seemed to make her tower over Kyra.

    Kyra looked at the man, scanning him over briefly. "I-I'm sure you'll d-do wonderfully in E-Errings R-Rising, i-if that's what you're looking for... E-Especially with that m-magic. It s-seems useful, m-much better t-than m-mine. I-if s-someone as t-terrible at e-everything as me can b-be accepted into the g-guild, s-someone l-like you w-would probably t-thrive..."

Kyra turned to Addilyn, her face still downtrodden. "S-sorry, M-Miss Amara. I-I shouldn't b-be the one that t-tells h-him everything, i-it's not my place... Y-you p-probably d-don't want me here anymore. I-I'll g-go back to my q-quarters and w-wait for the discipline f-for spilling t-the tea... a-and breaking the c-china... and f-for s-setting the s-stove on fire y-yesterday..."

Kyra turned once more, now facing away from the door to the outside, and slowly the crying cannibal began trying to make her way back to her own room, regardless of whether or not Medeia was going to be there. If either of the two others began speaking, Kyra would not have heard them, her mind still barking orders of self hatred at her.

The head maid was not expecting to have such a gentleman amongst her today. Always having an attractive boy whom would show ladies the respect that they should in response to the same form of communication, the guest had dismissed her attempts to help. Not for any form of anger or anything, but the surprise had been in her watching his clothes shift from soaking wet cloth intro pristine, freshly ironed and dried. It put a smile on the maids face to see such an act and more so that he did so without so much as any word of annoyance or frustration towards Kyra. If anything, that should have helped her feel a little better about herself, however the red headed girl tried to simply punish herself. A light sigh left her mouth as she would pull the girl over with her hair still gently wrapped around her waist and having hoisted her over to her. Reaching up to pat the sullen girl on the head, she smiled brightly towards Kyra. ”Don’t be so hard on yourself, Kyra. You’re a good person and even if you mess up something here or there, I believe you’ll get better.”

She had turned her attention back to their guest and the girl would continue shining her bright and happy smile his way now. ”And it’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Reilly-san.” For a moment after returning his introduction, Addi has to think and try and mentally bring herself from her time with Sanguine, still attached to her Midi dialects and common types of addressing and attempting to act much like she did. ”Anyway, I don’t believe there would be any issues with you joining at all! In fact, we could use more handsome looking men around here. Maybe it’ll motivate some of those horny maids to do some work.” Again, she tried to joke and ease any worry and nervousness that any of them had.

But now her hair had rescinded from the waist of the clumsy cannibal. Once she had, the girl began to ramble on about how useful he and his magic would be in a place like this and all she did was nod in agreement. When she realized she was running on, the girls head dipped and Addi couldn’t help but place a hand on her shoulder in a comforting manner. ”No, that was wonderfully said, Kyra. You showing that initiative to know only shows you’ve grown. I’m glad to hear it. But perhaps we should take a seat and relax for a moment, unless Mr. Julius has any desire to do anything.” She would look from the down in the dumps girl to their new arrival, waiting to hear of his opinions.

Julius never let slip his disarming smile, but the...defeatist tone of the maid who spilled tea on him did test him somewhat. He truly could not figure why it was anyone would hire someone both inept and depressing. Surely she had reason to be an employed member of the guild, so she should not be so inclined to believe her presence meaningless or her actions useless. He could only guess at what might have led her to hold such an opinion of herself. He would have to make an attempt to dissuade such self derision in the future. Julius so deeply abhorred when a beautiful woman was in distress.

"Nonsense, nonsense Miss Kyra." Julius did not get her whole name unfortunately, so this odd moniker was what he had to go with. "If you are even a fraction as powerful as you are beautiful I am sure you would have me dead to rights in mere moments!" Perhaps a mild embellishment, but considering his fledgling strength as a mage it was likely more true than not. "Though it does lay my worries to rest that both you, and Miss Amara, seem to think I am fit to join the guild." Doubly so at the mention of 'horny maids' from Addilyn. Julius was rarely one to scoff at a night of casual company after all.

Though he was not overly bothered by the trek up the mountain to get here, the idea of sitting down and relaxing with something warm did sound divine. As such when mentioned, Julius eyed a plush set of chairs around a fine table set aside in an alcove. Mostly likely intended for a guild member to meet with any number of visitors without entering the deeper halls of the guild, it seemed perfectly suited to their needs. "How about we take a seat and discuss entry while we relax?" he said lightly.

Julius tilted his head gently in affirmation to Addilyn before going to take a seat. Usually he would pull out a chair and offer it to each of them in turn. However, while such gentlemanly conduct is well received in most settings, pushing it upon those who are meant to serve may offend rather than compliment. He had committed such a mistake once in the past, much to his chagrin. In that instance apologizing led to further complications and he had to kill the whole lot in the end. A terribly grisly business he did not intend to repeat, doubly so in his hopeful future home.

Kyra was being treated like a child, she felt. Though, in fairness, that was reasonable. She certainly acted like one at times. Addilyn praised her for growing, something Kyra had not heard since she was young. Of course, this was not a bad thing. Velkhommes were expected to be perfect immediately, and Kyra was always the disappointment. No one ever told her that she had grown, only that she had done well. It especially helped that Addilyn was, for all intents and purposes, her boss while she was a maid.

"T-Thank you, M-Miss Addilyn." Her voice was weak, Kyra knowing her place in not speaking up too much in front of the much more important people around her. They were no Saraphina, of course, but Addilyn was head maid, and Julius was the brand new entrant to the guild. Within a week or so, he would be fully integrated as someone far more important that her and-

She stopped at Julius's comment on her beauty and power. It was supposed to be a comment, Kyra knew it. The truth rang in the back of her mind and in the pits of her heart that he meant it in a kind, if not flirtatious, way. Yet the only words that screamed in Kyra's mind were those of insults, that he demeaned her power and her beauty. That he just confirmed all she knew, that she was ugly. She gave a pained smile, unaware of how ineffective her attempts to hide her emotions were. "T-Thank you, J-Julius."

The two more important people suggested a return to a place to rest and sit, the standing conversation untowards. Kyra, now instinctively from her work as a maid within the halls of Errings Rising, pulled some chairs away from the nearby table, leaving ones on opposite sides for Addilyn and Julius, directly across from each other. Kyra then grabbed a seat for her own, at Addilyn's left, and began pulling it out for herself. While the first two had gone without issue, pulling the chairs out for Addilyn and Julius to sit, Kyra's own chair gave difficulties, the incompetent heiress pulling the chair out towards herself and scraping it against her toes. She, along with the chair, soon fell, crashing to the ground, completely managing to avoid everything else, luckily enough for her. The chair was perfectly fine, though Kyra already could feel a slight bit of blood begin to trickle from her foot underneath her stockings and her shoes. Kyra laid on the ground in defeat for a moment, taking in her own failure. This was not a good day, she realized. Worse than normal. She got up, pushing her chair back in and realizing she had not done the same for the more important two.

"S-sorry, I-I messed up again," Kyra mumbled in Addilyn's general direction. "I-I'll just go back to my room..."
