Grappa and Jellisha flew high above in the skies above the desert town, the warm and humid climate sticking to their lavender colored fur as much as it had been possible. Their assignment here today was simple: a close by ally in the town who had connection with the Rune Knights had asked for assistance with fixing a town problem that had been plaguing them for quite some time. The girls were ever ready to lend an ear to those and need and were sent off to go investigate such claims. Of course, they really didn't need much considering they could just fly to wherever they pleased, so long as they took breaks to rest and relieve their parents' worries every couple of hours. The two landed on the town outskirts, shifting into their human appearances, both adorned in the Rune Knight Engineering Division standard uniforms, as the weather was much too hot for anybody with fur. Grappa wiped some sweat from her brow while walking into the village. "Why's it so hot here? This should be illegal to be this hot..." The two's welcome was celebrated by few who paid them attention. Instead, loads of people had been staring around a well. A man approached, dressed in a rather worn looking cloak with all the clothing and accessories of a desert dweller.
"Ah, you must be from the Rune Knights. They said that they'd be sending two...small individuals." his tone made it clear that they had been expecting somebody whose description that the twins certainly did not meet.
Jellisha shot the man a look they normally did when somebody dismissed them for being "too young", "too small", or any kind of thing like that. It wasn't exactly the best way to greet their would be saviors. "I'm Jellisha." she said, motioning to the ever smiling youth behind her. "And that's Grappa. Nice to meet you..." she trailed off, looking the man in the face. "Akamu. Come this way." he motioned for thw two to follow. Their steps took them closer towards the well in question, desperately in need of repair. There was an awful scent coming from it and some pail fulls of a murky, brownish-green water stood nearby. "It all started but 2 days ago. The water we pulled from the well was tainted by something deep within the well. As you can imagine, none of us are well acquainted with how it works, let alone travel down there and see." Akamu's hand raised to motion to the well's opening as a dreadful stench was eminating from the hole. "Therefore, you'll be perfect for a job like this. Find out what has happened to our water and cleanse it. Simple things for two budding engineers. You'll find tools nearby the well." The twins were quick to hop into action, with Grappa carrying the heavy sack of tools while Jellisha would keep the pail raised to put the tools inside of. Once they had lifted down the heavy stuff, the two engineer division rookies would shift into their Exceed forms and fly down into the depths of the well.
"Ugh. The stench is..." Grappa coughed, covering her noise from whatever had been down here. The water was stagnant here, with very little reaching out towards where the water would rise and increase the water level at. Jellisha mimicked the same movement that her sister had done while struggling to think how they could fix this. "Go get the tools!" she ordered Grappa, who flew over towards the tool bag in the pail before fluttering back to the opening. Jellisha offered a pretty sorrowful smile. "Let's get dirty then..."
The two would begin their journey into the depths of the well, the moist and horrid stench continuing through the narrow tunnel. It was a short journey to the filtration system, with bricks of old wearing their age normally submerged under water. They stumbled across the great filter and immediately spotted what was wrong. "Is that..." Grappa began, pointing at the black, viscous mass that had accumulated on the filtration like some sort of tumor. It had spread across most of the screening and was even..wiggling in some areas. "There's no way I'm touching that." Jellisha said. "Blast it with magic...and then hope none gets on you." Her paws circled with her air magic, Grappa's as well. Once enough was condensed, they sent the blast trailing towards the shambling mass. The impact was large, blowing off some chunks here and there which dropped onto the floor and were carried off with the current. Grappa held up a foot as one near her hind legs.
"Um, we may need a new plan." She huffed while Jellisha stood in thought. If this thing was too big to just blast on maybe they could blow it off? The two held paws and then proceeded to use some momentum to create a powerful gust of wind to blow the mass away. The entire gate section would rattle with the strength of the winds in the tunnel, slowly being pushed upwards as more and more of the black mass would be dangling from above. The entire portion would tremble as the winds pressed against them before it blew completely off in one piece. "There it goes." The mass plopped on the ground as the two came to a stop while the pile of gunk would push itself onto itself to stand upright. "Th-Thats not...just some stuff." "Yeah, I can see that, Grappa..." It was some strange type of beast, standing on several legs and letting out a terrible skittering. The girls prepared themselves for a fight as it began to skitter near.
KLANG!
From above, the screen came crashing down, hitting the creature's head as it was split in two. The twins closed their eyes and jumped back at the sound, opening them as the gate would be in fairly rough shape. "Wow. I guess we don't know our own strength." Grappa observed, watching as some gunk washed away beside her. "Let's check on the screen and see if it's okay."
The two flew up and would take the tool kit with them, with Jellisha tightening screws, Grappa applying some cleaner to scrub off some extra bits and pieces of residue, and the both of them trading off duties every now and again. "This thing looks a thousand times better now though!" Jellisha stood, admiring her handiwork. The screen wasn't replaced but by their estimate, it certainly could stand on its own for a few more years.
Once that was done, the two would use the pail to collect the bits and pieces of the creature and then fly their way up towards the surface again. Once the two pulled themselves out of the well, they were greeted by Akamu and a few villagers. "You're back! Have you found what was wrong?" Grappa shook her fur free of water while looking up towards the man. "There was this gross monster down there on the grate. That's probably why your eater's been all icky." Jellisha nodded in agreement. "We took care of it and managed to fix the thing up some. You should probably flush the well and then the water would be good again." Akamu looked over at the black bits and pieces being hauled up put of the well. "You two certainly are a pair. Thank you for your help." Jellisha nodded and would brush some stuff from her arms while then huffing to herself. The two would need to burn their fur off at this rate. With a wave and a burst of speed, the twin Exceed rocketed off towards the Rune Knights HQ once more.
