"This is it!" exclaimed a blonde-haired man in the center of a growing crowd, "Fiorean culture at its finest! Isn't it fantastic, my fair Clementine? They are almost as gorgeous as Pergrande's festivals!"

The man shouting in the center of the crowd was none other than Fane Howler, now returning to Clover Town to repay an earlier debt. His hair was still long and wavy, his body nude and exposed except for the hair-thin rags and shawl covering it, and his bright, blue eyes so full of vigor and was as effervescent as before.

With him was Clementine—a woman whom he wouldn't refer to without "my fair. . ." or "my darling. . ." being added just before he'd call to her and someone he had crossed paths with during his time in the Sevenwood. Clementine wasn't the only person had run into during his travels. Actually, he had run into a litany of fellows! But after the news of his former Lord's death resurfacing, Fane's purpose had all but vanished. He wouldn't very well kill himself, but he anguished the thought of roaming and being without a purpose. So, like anyone would, he recalled a particular run-in here in Fiore with a particular person. When he and this particular person would cross paths again, only then would his new purpose be decided. But for now, until he reached them, Clover Town was the pitstop in Clementine and his conjoined quest—and it just so happened that they were celebrating the autumn equinox when they had arrived—something that Fane had long forgotten about.

"Right then," Fane continued with both hands placed triumphantly on his hips, completely turning around to face Clementine, "what is it that you would like to participate in, my fair Clementine? Would you like to know what I would like to partake in? If you're wondering, I would love to experience Fiorean cuisine! Wouldn't you?—oh, perhaps not! You are Fiorean after all! Why that's equivalent to you asking me if I would like to try some Pergranden tea! I'm such a fool, aren't I? Aren't I such a fool for inquiring such a thing? Pft." he began to giggle wryly, deriving into his usual chattiness.

Suddenly, Fane stopped laughing and paused with a wondering expression and small smile. "But I don't suppose. . . you would like to partake in Fiorean cuisine this time here in Clover Town, would you, my fair Clementine?" he inquired inquisitively.

On another note, Poko the Crow was not here with them like she (he?) was in the Sevenwood. It was far too crowded for her liking and opted to do other things while they were here. Fane wasn't entirely sure whether or not Poko would ever keep her word and return, but his captivation on the autumn festival was so sea-deep that he was not of the mind to ponder it. Aside from that, people stared at Fane during his monologues and shouting, but wouldn't stop to look twice. Seeing a homeless-looking man scream in the middle of a crowd was something to look at, after all, but nothing to stop for when festivities awaited you.

Clem looked around in fascination at all the wonderful chaos of the harvest festival, hands stuffed in her jacket pockets to keep warm. Booth and stands lined the makeshift hay walkways, offering things like food, toys, and clothes. The air smelled heavily of pumpkin and cinnamon, a combination which Clem eagerly inhaled. Everyone in Clover Town had come together to celebrate the equinox and the bountiful harvest. The positive vibe in the air lifted Clem’s own spirits.

Everything about festivals, especially this one, was new to her. Clem wanted to experience everything about it that she possibly could! Though she had been out of Neutral Grounds for many years, it wasn’t until she joined a guild that she started participating in things that normal people did. Going to restaurants, taking jobs, attending events. A glance to her left made her let out a huff of laughter. Her companion, Fane, was standing in the middle of the crowd, staring around like a child in awe. Could anything Fane participated in be considered what normal people did? Clem shook her head to herself, but the smile didn’t leave her face.

When she had first met Fane, he honestly creeped her out. The way he babbled on and on, talked to himself - and birds - was unnerving. The painter had never met anyone who was willing to talk when there was nobody to talk to. It had taken time for her to become accustomed to his unusual personality, but now she was fine with it. In fact, his antics and speech were often amusing. Clem had come to understand in recent years that the best company was often found in the most unusual places and people. There was no way to choose to surround herself with normal people when there was no clear definition of normal anymore.

At Fane’s outburst, Clem let out an uncomfortable chuckle. It was still hard for her to be called terms of endearment or formality. In the streets of Neutral Grounds, Clem had been called many unfavorable things, and her mother had always used her full name when speaking to her. Any other terms were not heard of among street folk. Fane’s eccentric manner of speaking made her uncomfortable, but she was growing to tolerate - and maybe even like - it.

Fane continued chattering, but Clem managed to pick out the question. “Hmm,” she hummed, looking around. Her blue eyes landed on a sign staked crookedly into the ground, reading EATING CONTEST THIS WAY. “How ‘bout we eat a ton of Fiorean cuisine?” she asked in return, a wolfish smile on her face. One hand was removed from its warm spot in her pocket and grabbed onto Fane’s. Without waiting for an answer, Clem dragged him towards where the sign was pointing. The mage had an iron stomach and could never seem to eat enough to satisfy her. The idea of eating as much as possible in order to beat others kicked her competitive nature into action.

"SPLENDID! Absolutely splendid, my darling Clementine!" Fane praised her in his usual cheeriness. While he sounded most excited for this eating contest, his big blue eyes seemed to fix on every thing he saw. All the booths captivated him, and all of the games teased him with prizes, although he seemed mostly drawn to the games themselves and the materialistic rewards.

One of the things that captured his eyes was a one-eyed old man sitting on a stump, with a big, bushy brow casting a shadow over his eye, staring at no one in particular. Next to him was a basket full of trophies and prizes that stacked over everyone else's with a shadow larger than his own. Fane had wondered what the old man had done to win so many prizes at an age like that since many of these games required dexterity and prowess that seemed to rust and wither with age. But Fane was not one to recline and contemplate these things. Instead, he approached the man with his bright smile and wide eyes.

"Well met, fine sir! How do you do? Doing well, perhaps? Oh, but of course you are! Why wouldn't you? Pft." Fane assumed jovially, as he normally does with people. "Do you mind speaking with me? You don't, do you?"

The old, one-eyed man only looked at him and nodded, to which Fane responded with an even wider, gummy grin.

"Excellent! Now then," he pointed to the basket of prizes lying next to the man, "would you mind telling me about those prizes? Or—what I'm trying to articulate is how you were able to manage to collect so many! You are so seasoned and small, after all! Not to say that the finest of men don't come in such a miniature size, but is this all a facade? A deception, perhaps? If you wouldn't mind elucidating, my fine fellow, nothing would make me happier this noon!" Fane queried chipperly, his arms folded on top of one another behind his back as he leaned in closer.

The old man paused and nodded after, most likely, pondering his answer. But instead of answering in a way that would satisfy the blue-eyed blonde, he asked him a question. Or more appropriately, a riddle. "What belongs to you, but gets used by others more?" he said plainly in his low, gruff voice.

Fane wasn't so mindless to say "Pardon?" when he asked him, and instead paused for a moment of his answer to answer. "What belongs to you, but gets used by others more, you say?"

    The old man nodded.

"Well I s'pose there are many things that's applicable for this. What belongs to you, but gets used by others more, hmm?" Fane contemplated about the riddle for a moment before springing up and tapping his fist into the center of his palm,
    "your name, mayhap?"
