    Job Details:

Things had certainly gotten a lot more complicated. And a lot more worrisome. Akeya was now flying high above the seas, invisible as she usually was while tracking a trail which she wasn't even entirely sure was the correct trail. Not that she doubted her own tracking ability, but this kind of thing was difficult to do even for an expert.

The prologue of her current situation was that she'd invited Leila to enjoy the summer festivities together, yet somehow that get-together had gone horribly horribly wrong. In fact it'd gone a lot more wrong than she'd even pessimistically expected it to go wrong: she had been prepared for something like monsters or dark mages interrupting the festivities, or maybe just the two of them having an argument which dampened the mood of the entire event. What she hadn't expected was that the two of them would end up staring each other down as if trying to figure out the best way to stab the other without the favour being returned.

Of course Akeya wasn't completely oblivious about the fact that her own personality made it difficult for people to enjoy her company. It also wasn't something she particularly minded, although part of her motivation to invite Leila in the first place had been an attempt to make it easier for the both of them to interact with the other. While they'd built up something of a history of working together they hadn't made a lot of attempts to just hang out and get to know one another, once again because Akeya's social skills were somewhere on the level of a not too hungry shark.

Still, she couldn't help but feel like Leila's reaction to her disappearing for at most a dozen minutes had been a bit beyond what could be excused by the dragoness's own poor attitude. Although she was willing to be lenient on the suspicion that it wasn't entirely Leila's fault that she'd behaved like that. The wolf lady didn't have a habit of throwing around void as a weapon. Or suffering from acute and persistent memory loss.

All that aside, her current task was to figure out where Leila went, and figure out what the hell was going on. There were a bunch of motivations for this task, one of the foremost being that with how strong Leila was it wasn't a good idea to lose track of her when last seen she had a state of mind that couldn't exactly be called stable. Another one was that since Akeya had been trying to create maybe a little bit more familiarity with one another it stood to reason that she also had to show some amount of concern for Leila herself.

The problem she was facing was that a goddess wasn't exactly easy to find if she didn't want to be found. The dragoness had been flying for hours already, and given how fast she could travel if she felt like it that was saying something. Even invisible her emerald eyes were still the origin of a gaze so fierce that any creature subjected to it might almost feel said gaze like a physical force bearing down upon them. Having made herself intangible she wasn't disturbing the flow of the air either, so for most purposes she herself was as hidden as one could be while she was trying to find her partner in jobs.

The trail she was following was the trail of Leila's mana. While the silver-haired goddess had been throwing about some kind of void ability during her bout of fury she still had mana inside of her, although mana contained inside a being was a lot harder to track than external mana (such as from the usage of spells). If it wasn't for her having honed her skills and being finely attuned to the flow of mana as a dragon Akeya was pretty sure she would have lost the trail hours ago, after which she'd have no method left for figuring out where Leila went other than asking around whether anyone had seen a silver-haired wolf girl, possibly consuming parts of the area with large blobs of void.

As it was she was wondering how long she'd be up here following a trail which felt as thin as the single strand of fur from a rodent when she finally spotted something other than endless ocean in the distance: land. More specifically, an island. And now that it was close enough that she could see it from her airborne position she could also feel a strong presence from it... or more like an aura? She squinted as she glared harder at it, trying to figure out what that island was all about. She was approaching quickly so it didn't take much longer before she could see figures flying about above the landmass. Not a lot of them, but on the other hand they were also a lot bigger than average.

The assassin dragoness wondered what kind of place Leila had decided to recuperate in as she changed her course so she could begin trailing large circles above the island. She'd land soon, but first she wanted to do a couple of scouting runs to see if she could find something that she'd rather not first discover up close.

    Leila Vergious  ❃  Y-rank  ❃  Silver Wolf
The dark clouds painted a somber picture for anyone who dared to look toward the skies even as the raindrops continued to fall. Most of them hit the elastic surface of the sea that stretched seemingly endlessly in all directions. But the rest wet the surface of the solitary island.

Even, the wyverns continued to fly around the landmass, stretching their wings and looking for any potential food that swam up to the top of the ocean’s surface in search of the fresh air that arrived with the rain. It was their territory here, yet they were completely unbothered by the one alien presence that arrived not too long ago.

It was Leila who was seeking a remote place like this to ensure that her little experimentation would not harm anyone. The creatures that lived in this place were resilient enough to withstand any accidental discharges of heavy magic, as well as clever enough to stay out of the way.

Perhaps it was the dragon-like presence that the girl had awakened within herself, but they respected her being here and steered clear of the area where she stayed. With the rain, she had found herself hiding in a shallow cave carved into a rock formation that looked almost like a tiny mountain sticking out of the island’s center.

Listening to the beat generated by the drops breaking against the hard stone surface that dotted most of the land was surprisingly pleasant, almost like a melody. The cold that arrived with it was the only real downside, as far as the girl was concerned.

Glad that she had picked up her more shrouded attire, the hood that covered her head and cloak with fur trim allowed her to snug into it to ward of the colder air and wait until the skies cleared up soon after. The weather changed suddenly and quite frequently this far from the mainland.

Letting out a small sigh as she stepped from within the rock’s shadow, the fabric dancing in the strong wind behind her and even pushing the hood off of her head, letting the silver locks sparkle in the sun’s gaze, she would think about many things.

The very fact that she was at such a place was rather unusual for someone like Leila. While she was not exactly the most social individual herself, she was generally found in places where nature was plentiful. But here? It was almost a barren wasteland.

Maybe it was the wyverns themselves that drew her? Not quite dragons, but they were at least distant relatives to the prideful creatures. Unfortunately for the girl, she knew no real dragon that could practically teach her. Really, she barely knew any dragons at all.

And the one she was closest to, well… she couldn’t imagine that she’d be happy to do anything with the silver wolf girl at this point. Their last interact was far from pleasant and that was putting it very mildly as well. Everything that could go wrong went wrong.

While the worst of it was due to Aurora’s direct interference, Leila could not claim that she was not responsible to some degree, either. She let her emotions get the better of her once more, as was becoming an unpleasant trend with her lately. One that she needed to get rid of, somehow.

However, that was not something she could just achieve here, right now. It would require time. Hell, she thought she improved and then proved herself wrong. So where was the guarantee that she would be able to avoid situations like that, ever? Maybe it was just impossible.

Letting out a sigh, she just stretched for now. People often found secluded places so they could think in peace. But the girl was here to practice, not to think. Her magic was all out of whack after what happened. Especially the dragon aspect, which started ‘melting’ into the magic provided by Eden.

A strange sensation, to say the least. And a problematic one, as she would not be able to properly use her regular magic before she’d learn how to control the dragon one now. Something that she kept on avoiding until now for one reason or another. It was not hard to find an excuse.

Much like right now, her actions were quickly stopped as she sensed something that was approaching the island at high speed. And it only took her moments before she realized exactly what it was. A deep sense of worry overcame her almost instantly.

Akeya was… someone that Leila saw as rather unpredictable. Not because she was crazy or something, but because she rarely seemed to let emotions dictate her actions. And for that reason, she could not tell what the dragoness would do now if they were to meet.

Would that cold logic dictate for her to attack Leila? Or perhaps the dragon pride would enter the stage and demand an apology? One thing was for certain, the girl did not expect any sort of remorse or apologetic gesture from Akeya herself. She was at least somewhat conscious when Aurora took control.

That allowed her to witness at least some of the things the dragoness said. And just as she thought, the ego of a dragon was infinite. And one easy to offend. Worst case scenario, Leila was ready to apply a similar tactic as in the Clover village, to warp away if any danger were to come her way.

For now, all she could do was remain in place and brace herself both physically and mentally for whatever was about to come the moment her teammate decided to stop circling the place like a hungry vulture and actually landed to meet Leila face to face.

That, and hope that nothing would actually go as sour as she imagined. Interactions with people like this grew far too painful ever since Jiyu Kazehime decided to disappear without a trace and she did not need any more of the pain that it always seemed to cause her.

[Job] Dragonthorn (Akeya/Leila Vergious) Empty Re: [Job] Dragonthorn (Akeya/Leila Vergious)

Post by Akeya 27th August 2019, 4:12 pm

Wyverns were curious creatures, Akeya silently observed to herself as she saw them circling above the island. Now that she was close enough she could see them for what they were, which piqued her interest significantly. Wyverns seemed to have some relationship to dragons yet were still completely different, despite there also being dragons whose forelimbs and wings were one and the same. For the most part a wyvern was a lot like a dragon, except inferior in every way. Size, power, speed, intelligence... they usually had very little magic ability beyond what was needed for a basic breath attack, which was often decided by which climate they lived in.

The theory Akeya was most fond of was that dragons and wyverns had the same ancestor, but dragons had somehow stumbled upon a path to higher intelligence and magic power, which had resulted in their development accelerating immensely and heading for a direction no average animal could hope to compete with.

As it was these wyverns were still dangerous enough that most mages would be better off avoiding this island. A single wyvern causing trouble in the countryside could easily become the target of an A-Rank job, because being weaker than a dragon didn't necessarily say much. Worse than that, there was one advantage wyverns had over dragons: they were by nature group creatures. A single wyvern could be a real threat to a seasoned and talented adventurer, a thunder of wyverns could force an entire populated area to be abandoned until such time that a group of legendary adventurers or an entire army could be dispatched to deal with it.

However as much as Akeya might have liked the opportunity to study these creatures she currently had a higher priority to deal with. Leila was definitely on the island, she could tell by the magical residues. As thin and fragile as that thread had been which she'd followed now that she'd found the source there was no mistaking it. As she circled the rather small landmass the dragoness wondered how to approach the issue, the rain passing through her intangible form harmlessly. Should she just descend as quickly as possible, or take it slow? If Leila was still possessed she might have to move quickly, but rash movements could also force her friend into a more hostile stance...

After some pondering she decided she'd approach the silver-haired goddess at a steady pace, but keeping an eye out for danger. She was familiar enough with Leila's magic that she felt confident about being able to react if the other mage tried something. And while one might not expect it from her, the assassin was hoping that she could actually come into contact with her partner without any undue hostility. Back when things went wrong during the festivities she'd told Leila that she didn't want to kill her, and that she believed her actions to be influenced by a more malicious entity. She had been entirely truthful on both accounts: she didn't think Leila was the kind of person who'd start lashing out with dangerous magic just because she was angry and frustrated, at least not in an area where there were a lot of innocent civilians. The guardian of Eden had made it clear that she disliked taking any life.

Abandoning her circling Akeya began her descent, forming a tight spiral as she went lower and lower. The wyverns ignored her, for the most part not even noticing her. And even if they did pick up on her presence they didn't bother reacting. Unless Leila took action Akeya's landing would be uneventful, only about a dozen meters away from her friend. Only once her clawed feet were about to touch the ground did she allow her body to become tangible again. Luckily at this point the rain had stopped, preventing the issue of her attire (or her own body) becoming soaked as she confidently moved towards where Leila was... waiting for her, the dragoness supposed.

"Leila," She stated as a simple greeting. It didn't look like the goddess was being consumed by that rage currently. In fact Leila looked pretty calm right now, at least to Akeya's intense eyes. "How are you feeling currently?" One of the reasons why Akeya found Leila one of the best partners she'd worked together with up until now was because the wolf lady was neither afraid to speak, nor so arrogant as to act like the world revolved around her. For a lot of people it was difficult to converse with Akeya without either shying away or behaving cocky.

As she greeted her partner and asked after her condition Akeya studied the silver-haired mage some more. Unlike herself Leila had dressed for harsh weather, and overall looked like she was in control of the situation. However her magic felt a bit rougher than usual, as if there was something messing with the balanced flow. That wasn't necessarily cause for alarm: with how much magic was a part of a mage's being extreme emotion could already lead to one's magic being unstable and more volatile than usual. However it was worth noting, and for some reason it felt familiar to the dragoness...

    Leila Vergious  ❃  Y-rank  ❃  Silver Wolf
Even though the creatures around were mostly disinterested in the two alien beings on the island, some of them did curiously look on as the situation started slowly unfolding. At least one or two even remained close enough that they could conquer the distance in a single mere instant if the need for it called.

Perhaps that made them somewhat more of a comfortable companion in comparison to actual dragons. The more feral a creature was, the friendlier toward Leila it tended to be. A bond with nature that the girl valued greatly, even if it was somewhat forged by her magic rather than naturally earned.

Not that anyone could truly achieve such status and ability without the aid of at least some supernatural phenomenon. Hostility was, unfortunately, just something that was ever-present. Sometimes in slightly different forms that a person would immediately think of. Much like the wyvern that was ready to leap in front of Leila and defend her.

Leila still hoped that no such gesture would be necessary at any point today, but she still had to be cautious. It was one of the first things she learned in her life, after all. And something that saved her hide more times than she could possibly count.

But for now, she merely watched as the humanoid dragon descended from the skies, at last, taking one or two cautionary steps backward instinctively during the process. Even with her magic running somewhat rampant inside of her, the girl’s senses were still sharp.

Every bit of motion that could be observed was, from Akeya’s own somewhat lacking animation to even the small stones being tossed to the side by her clawed feet planting onto the rocky surface. All in hopes that anything at all would betray the emotions and goals her teammate was carrying inside of herself.

Little was actually expressed in this way, given how stoic the other woman was most of the time. However, Leila did have an inkling that she was in no immediate danger. A strange one, to say the least. Different from her usual intuition or the ability to read the environment.

It was more akin to silent whispers, complete balderdash or even a paradox. Maybe it was even caused by her magic going out of whack as such, this curious little buzz inside of her head. She felt compelled to believe it, like a word of a kind mother that there was not to be afraid of.

One quick rub of her temple later, her ocean blue eyes, matching the distant scenery all around them, fixated onto the individual in front of her. Once again, she could not find any obvious signs of anger, worry, any emotion at all.

Only the cold and logical exterior she always seemed to show. It was her nature, Leila supposed. “Good day to you, too. I’m doing fine.” Perhaps there was some leftover irritation from what happened at the festival. They didn’t even get to see the fireworks together.

That said, Leila was not planning on doing anything harsh or rash at the moment. That said, she also had absolutely no idea how to converse with Akeya at this point. It almost seemed like they were two strangers that knew very little about one another.

Why are you here? Worried that I’d blow up a village or a town?” For now, she wanted to know just one thing. Did someone tell her to track Leila down, or did she do this out of her own free will? And if she did, then for what reason?

There was much to be discussed here. However, the girl did not want it to be so because she was perceived as a threat that must have been stopped at any cost. Instead, she hoped it was because there was actually someone who would want to help her in some way.

Not that she exactly needed any help, not anymore. At least not with the issue that Akeya still had in her memory. Aurora realized the potential danger of merging herself with the one who carried a portion of the goddess’ soul and what destruction it could lead to.

And even she was no interested in literally reducing this world to barren wasteland void of life. In a way, the two of them came to a mutual understanding. Despite Aurora being a bit of a careless bitch at times, she decided to respect certain lines that should just not be crossed unless absolutely necessary.

With a low sigh, Leila just ran her hand through her fringe and continued to gaze at the dragoness. She expected at least some form of a solid answer, but somewhere deep inside, she doubted a prideful dragon could bring any form of good news when it came down to what they went through.

Still, obviously at least some fragment of hope remained. She wouldn’t be standing there, otherwise. If Leila expected that only bad were to come her way, she would make herself disappear completely from Fiore, make it impossible to track her in any way. After living most of her life on the path, she learned how to do that perfectly.

[Job] Dragonthorn (Akeya/Leila Vergious) Empty Re: [Job] Dragonthorn (Akeya/Leila Vergious)

Post by Akeya 28th August 2019, 1:07 pm

Akeya's emerald eyes flickered over to the approaching wyverns before returning their gaze to Leila, the dragoness keeping track of the position of what could be called her lesser cousins. It didn't look like any of them were planning to attack her, but it was clear that they were paying attention... and behaving defensively. Looks like the goddess's success with animals extended to wyverns as well.

The assassin slapped the ground with the tip of her tail, warning the wyverns to not get ahead of themselves. While they were dangerous creatures they still weren't powerful enough to be a real danger to either herself or Leila. Only if a lot of them attacked together would they start becoming an obstacle, so Akeya just wanted them to stay out of the way.

As for Leila, there was a combination of sensations and thoughts inside Akeya's head regarding her friend. Caution was one of them, since that power Leila had unleashed in their last encounter was nothing to scoff at. Concern, since she couldn't say for sure whether Leila once again had full control over her mind or if that malicious presence was still somewhere in there. Annoyance that the attempt at improving their standing with one another had turned into this situation.

She'd have to handle this carefully to make sure she wouldn't say or do the wrong thing. Right now she couldn't depend on Leila picking up the slack in the dragoness's blunt behaviour.

The silver-haired goddess's response at least sounded normal. The dragoness stayed silent for a bit longer as she was pretty sure Leila would have more to say than just returning the greeting and answering the question. And sure enough, the next question came: why Akeya had bothered to track her down. The dragoness had a couple of reasons, but she couldn't deny that the one Leila had suggested was one of them.

"That was one of the reasons yes. However I was also worried about your condition." She shifted her weight to rest mostly on one leg, making a rather vague motion with one hand as she continued. "Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looked a lot like some force was controlling or influencing your actions back then, given how unlike yourself you were behaving. As your partner that kind of thing concerns me. It's good to see that you appear to be in control again, however." She once more cast a glance at the surrounding wyverns. "Although I'll admit I'm surprised by your choice of refuge. I didn't think you'd find shelter in a wyvern-dominated island."

What else should she say... she studied Leila for a bit longer, thinking back to their short visit to Clover Town. She was aware that not everyone would agree with how she reacted to that jester, but in the end she hadn't actually done anything worse than make him fall into the water. She could have done much worse. Of course that wasn't why Leila was mad either: the silver-haired girl had been abundantly clear about the source of her frustration which had resulted in the fight and consequent departure. Apparently she had taken Akeya's wandering off a lot more harshly than the dragoness had anticipated.

But was there something she could do about that right now? Not really. It had already happened and the festivities were already over by this point. But things between her and Leila weren't resolved yet. If they wanted to continue working together they'd have to talk about what happened, the why and the how and what kind of influence it'd have on future situations. The dragoness narrowed her eyes slightly, then gave a soft sigh.

"That said I still don't know what exactly happened back there, and I can't pretend it didn't happen either. If there's a chance of such a thing happening again in the future we'd have to take precautions against it, and for that to work I'd need to know exactly what we're dealing with." She gave a slight grimace before her facial expression became focused once more, albeit maybe a bit more troubled than usual. "That power you pulled forth isn't the kind of thing that can be ignored. Although I can at least take the lesson to heart that if we're moving together I shouldn't separate from you without warning." She found it a bit tiresome, but if Leila needed that kind of information it was a small price to pay.

As she thought back to the festival the dragoness also remembered what it had been like to be affected by the strongest sun of the year. She'd felt... Larger, in a mental sense. Her feelings had come to the forefront more strongly than usual, which had been part of the reason why she'd reacted to the jester the way she did. However before things began to go wrong she'd felt more intrigued by the surrounding humans going about their lives than usual. A strange thing for someone such as herself, who largely saw the average human as beneath her.

Planting a clawed hand on one hip she flexed the other hand and then relaxed it once more before lifting it in a wide gesture as if to indicate that she was trying to be open. Which she was. "To put it differently, I was worried about what whatever it was that was influencing you would make you do, and worried what that would do to you. I can't tell if you're still upset with me but I don't think you yourself are the threat. You're still one of the better partners I've worked together with but I need to know what we're dealing with this time around."

The idea that the issue wouldn't show itself again hadn't occurred to Akeya yet. Or rather it had been assigned a very low probability by virtue of it being rather convenient if such an outburst only happened once with zero chance of a relapse.

For now she just hoped that Leila wouldn't bolt or anything.

Well, this was certainly somewhat awkward. Even if it was not intentional in any way, the tension between the two girls filled the air quite quickly. The wyverns seemed to notice this as well, but there were a few that took note of the defensive ‘shoo’ Akeya performed and still remained close by.

However, they were not something that the two of them should remain worried about. Thankfully, unlike the first few moments of the dragoness’ descent, she had now started talking aplenty. And Leila listened, crossing her hands at her chest’s level. Those blue optics of hers wandered from her partner to the sea, the land, and back to the dragon.

She gathered everything that was said and quickly sorted it in her head. Some of it was… surprising, to say the least. But it didn’t seem like her partner was making an attempt to lie. If she was, then it was a good one.

But then again, Akeya was someone who was apparently used to wearing that neutral face quite a lot. Regardless, at least for now, Leila chose to take her words as the absolute truth of her intentions. And she had to address those concerns in some way.

But, well… the situation was much more complicated for her than it appeared on the outside. And trying to expose the Garden’s inner hierarchy to an outsider was a task that would be mostly futile. Especially with someone like Akeya, as this strange order did not follow logic and reason.

Tightly grabbing onto the fur trim of her hoodie, she pulled it further up to a point where it easily covered her mouth while forcing her gaze to the side coyly. “You’re not wrong that there was something other than me present when… all those things transpired.

Her voice might have been low, but she was still sure that someone with superhuman senses like Akeya would be able to pick those words and register them without too much of a trouble. “It’s a… pleasant surprise to hear that you’re concerned. Whether that is because of me or because of the safety of others…

Though the dragoness’ words indicated that she at least slightly cared about Leila as an individual and not just a tool to be used to easily fulfill working contracts that one would find themselves part of from time to time. She never wanted to be seen as just that.

Then it came down to the Wyvern aerie. Leila didn’t really have that good of an explanation for this one. But at least her grip on the clothing loosened, letting the fur descend back to its original position. And her voice no longer carried that sense of shyness.

It was just another place where I could be alone. Or at least in the presence of beasts that would be able to understand my voice and stay by my side. Capable of withstanding anything even if my magic were to lash out.

She certainly held at least some respect toward the beasts. Dragons might have looked down on them, but Leila saw something majestic and worthy of respect. Clearly at least some of them felt the same way, still present around and ready to jump in if they sensed any dangers coming from the dragoness or anywhere else.

Unfortunately, the aforementioned dragoness was still not happy with the level of information that she has been given. This was a complicated manner. So the silver-haired maiden decided she would put forth a test of sorts. One that would let her see just how willing Akeya was to take Leila’s own words at face value.

You might not like this, but you’ll have to trust me when I say that there is no need to worry about it happening again. I… I have already dealt with it. I know for a fact that it won’t happen.

It was somewhat amusing that Akeya was talking about power. As proof that the girl meant it, she extended one of her hands forward, bending her wrist and pointing her index finger up, as if she was pointing at the sky.

But instead of just that, a small ball appeared just above the tip of that finger. One that quickly grew to be just a bit larger in size than her entire palm. The same ball that appeared and transformed itself during the festival, the one that attacked the light elementals and Akeya alike.

It was a ball of pure void energy, completely devoid of any element or even magical energy, really. Which was actually the reason why the girl was able to conjure and control it so easily right now. As something that had nothing to do with her actual magic, it was not that hard at all.

Several more balls started forming soon after until there were eight, floating in a circular pattern around Leila’s form like pitch-black planets around a silver star. Another somewhat funny thing was the reason why she was able to do this in the first place.

That was because of Aurora’s possession. Normally only the goddess of Eden had void as its dominion. None of the other spirits or even Leila were able to fully use it. But after the possession, her body got a taste of the curious material and sort of learned how to command it.

With a quick snap of her fingers, she let them all disperse into bright sparks of destructive energy, though it was only a few centimeters wide and fizzled out rather quickly, resulting in no damage being done to anything at all. One look at Akeya after showed a determined face that showed she was serious about this.

It’s just too complex to explain in an understandable way. But I can promise that this power will not go out of my control and no being will be able to truly possess me like that again. At least not without my consent.

And with that, Leila hoped the problem at hand was fixed. Though she had a hunch that Akeya would really not be the happiest dragon around, being essentially told off. But could she even understand if Leila said that she talked it through with Aurora and that they came to a mutual understanding of how things should be after one of them possessed the other and did what they did?

[Job] Dragonthorn (Akeya/Leila Vergious) Empty Re: [Job] Dragonthorn (Akeya/Leila Vergious)

Post by Akeya 29th August 2019, 2:06 pm

It was clear to Akeya that Leila wasn't entirely comfortable with the current situation. Not entirely surprising, but the dragoness hoped that they could resolve the issue without too many complications. For now it was already a good thing that the silver-haired girl was listening to what the assassin had to say. Of course given the fact that Akeya wasn't the most social of people she couldn't say for sure whether her words would have the desired effects: there were plenty of humans who expressed the desire to not be dependent on others, but they never seemed to realize that being group creatures was also why they were so good at communicating and cooperating with one another. If you were to make two tigers work together to hunt down a meal you'd quickly see that they would sooner compete than work together, possibly letting their quarry evade the both of them as they were wasting energy on chasing each other away.

The confirmation that there was another presence involved brought Akeya no relief. While it meant that her assumption was correct it was one troublesome enough that it brought her little joy to be proven right. If there was a malicious power which could make Leila act as dangerously as she'd done before it couldn't be left alone. The goddess's inherent peaceful nature might make it easy to overlook, but Akeya was very much aware that the woman standing before her was one of the strongest entities this world currently had to offer. If there was a creature with a destructive will which could control her... It would have to be an elimination mission of the highest priority.

"During the incident you appeared to be oblivious to certain things that were happening at the same time. Are there any holes in your memory?" It could be that Leila was being dodgy around the subject because she didn't want to think about it too much, but the dragoness couldn't rule out that part of that vagueness was because she didn't actually have a clear picture of exactly what happened. Possession and similar abilities often came with the effect of damaging the memories of the victim. Every scrap of information would be invaluable in this situation, so even if it meant pushing Leila to remember unpleasant things Akeya couldn't just let it be.

The spines of her ears spread out as she listened to the wolf-girl's softer words, followed by her raising one eyebrow. Was that something her friend had actually be worried over? Well, maybe it wasn't as strange a thing to be uncertain about. It wouldn't be the first time that her asocial attitude had resulted in people being uncertain of what she really was thinking. The dragoness folded her arms as her tail made a single sway from side to side behind her. "I won't lie and pretend to care much about the lives of most humans, but as it stands keeping an eye out for trouble and dealing with any potential large scale threats is also beneficial for myself in the long run. That said I've stated before that I consider you a valuable companion, and given how you've both been helpful and amiable at the very least I should have an interest in your well-being in return." She tapped one of her dark scales with a clawed finger. "Also I remember telling you that I'd be fine with letting you inspect my draconic self, which would be difficult to do if you disappeared." The corner of her mouth quirked up into a small smirk for a short moment.

She nodded as Leila explained that she came here because there would be nobody else here but these wyverns, who would be durable enough that any mistakes on her part wouldn't necessarily harm them. It was a sensible course of action, although Akeya figured that Leila might be overestimating the toughness of the wyverns a little bit. Their odds of escaping unscathed were better than that of most creatures, magical or otherwise, but they weren't so powerful they could shrug off the full onslaught of a goddess. Even a dragon would have to pay attention to that, and a wyvern was still more fragile than a dragon. "Understood. Although it's a surprise that there's an island with wyverns in this location anyway. I haven't heard of any reports that coastal settlements or seafarers were being harassed by wyverns in the area." This island couldn't hope to sustain the wyverns without some additional source of food, so were they emptying the waters?

The next piece of information, however, wasn't good. Of course if Leila was speaking the truth that the issue wouldn't arise again that would be convenient, but that was the problem: it was too convenient for the dragoness to accept it just like that. Her eyes narrowed at first, then when the goddess summoned several void orbs her arms quickly moved into a position where she could react quickly. While there was no hostility in her stance it was clear that Akeya was alert and keeping a careful eye on things as her friend played around with this new power before finally dismissing the spheres. When Leila once again stated that it was no longer an issue the dragoness stared silently for several seconds before answering.

"While it would be ideal if that were true I can't say your display just now inspired confidence that you're no longer in danger of being influenced. Especially since it leaves me with little in the form of actual answers beyond your claim." She raised one scaled hand and made the traditional sign for death, slicing the air in front of her throat with her index finger. "I won't take any action for the moment, but neither of us is above being wrong and I'd rather not perish because we didn't take a potential threat seriously enough. And either way I still need to know more about what exactly happened to you and how you're able to use that power now." It didn't take a genius to tell that Leila would rather not divulge too much information on the subject, but Akeya was completely serious when she said that remaining ignorant was not acceptable. Trust wasn't the issue here: she didn't think Leila was lying. The issue was that only a fool would willingly remain ignorant about a potential threat, even if assured that the issue was already dealt with.

As Leila readily expected, Akeya was not quite satisfied with just the information that was provided to her. Perhaps, in this one single moment, the silver-haired maiden understood what could be so alluring about living a solitary life, having to answer no one. A life where you wouldn’t have to share any information you didn’t want to.

But alas, the girl lived quite far from a life like that these days. Even if the dragoness were to abandon her and their teamwork lied shattered, she would at the very least return to the people she considered family. The individuals that would always accept her and never betray her in any way.

Once this ordeal was over, it’d probably be good if she paid them a short visit, it has been quite some time since they last saw each other. But right now, there was something that needed a bit of explanation, so Leila got to it.

A single body can’t efficiently support two different minds. And I was upset as well, so… most of the evening is a blur at this point. But what was before and what came after is still there so you needn’t worry about my memory at all.

Of course, the fact that Leila’s memory was in as good of shape as it could possibly be didn’t really mean that she’d put everything inside of it out for public consumption. She still very much planned on keeping many things secret even from someone like her partner.

Mostly because of the way Akeya was, actually. Gardens of Eden was an important realm to the girl and she wouldn’t be able to exist without it anymore. And this extended to Aurora as well. The two of them were inherently tied to one another by the strings of fate themselves.

So having a mad dragon trying to dispatch of one of them without being able to grasp the futility of such task would only bring about problems. Even for a dragon and a goddess, some problems were simply unsolvable, no matter how hard they tried. Such was life at times.

At the very least there was some attempt being made at soothing the rough feelings filling the air. Leila even smiled beneath that fur trim that was hiding her mouth quite well before letting it go back down after hearing the dragoness’ answer. She could never just answer something simply, could she?

There was even that remark about studying one another. Frankly, Leila felt like she didn’t have the energy require to answer that. It didn’t feel right, at least not in a situation like this. Or to study someone she potentially cared about overall. Even if it was harmless.

But perhaps these rather odd thoughts were merely invited by the girl’s tired mind. A closer look would even reveal slightly visible dark rings beneath her eyes that showed after missing a whole night worth of sleep and more as a result of their little possession scuffle.

Though, even with such a tired mind, she was still able to think just fine when it came down to things that would interest her. “We’re too far into the sea for fishermen to just stumble across it. And the wyverns are smarter than they look, they know how to fish without causing local genocide.

The are was almost like its own small ecosystem. But diving into that can of worms would be unnecessarily distracting from the problem at hand. Mainly the problem that the dragoness still wanted to know more. A notion that made Leila let out a tired sigh, her blue eyes tracing the small stones on the ground.

You’ll have to make peace with knowing just that I am acquainted with the one who possessed me and they meant no real harm. They just… like to test others who enter my life. By trying their best to scare them away and seeing if they persevere.

The idea of that might have seemed caring and noble in a vacuum, but the execution and context made it appear quite flawed. And it certainly was, but then again, Aurora had a rather sadistic side to her as well.

So perhaps she added that extra edge to it all for her own personal amusement and nothing else. And maybe she wasn’t even trying to help Leila at all, just hurt her. It certainly worked the first time around when the one being tested did not return… at least not until days later.

Not that it mattered much in the end, as they were completely gone, probably to never return, ever. A memory that caused Leila to narrow her saddened gaze at the floor for a moment before brushing it all to the side and looking back at the dragoness.

In other words, there was never a real threat, to begin with. As for this power… it was always mine. My body just didn’t remember until it was reminded during that evening, I guess…” That was how she herself understood it. Maybe it didn’t make much sense, but then again, what did?

Very few things followed the universal order when it came to Eden, a realm created from pure magical energy and a vision of the future. Scratching the back of her head, she was unsure what else to say. “Is that enough for you to relax and drop this? I don’t like that you’re in a position looking like you’d leap at me any moment now…

Post by Akeya 29th August 2019, 5:30 pm

Leila was providing some information, but it wasn't quite enough yet to soothe Akeya's concerns. That her memories of her time being possessed were blurry was as Akeya had feared, but on the other hand it also looked like it hadn't resulted in actual memory loss. It wasn't information she could immediately use, but it was good to know nonetheless. In future scenarios if Leila found herself having trouble remembering details it could be a sign that once again that other presence had been messing about with her mind.

"If you say so, although it's better to be careful about things like your memory." If some entity was threatening to mess about with Akeya's mind the dragoness would have immediately put them as her number one target to eliminate at the earliest opportunity. Her mind was her own and she wouldn't allow anything to mess with it.

The argument that the wyverns had made their lair too far away from traveled waters for seafarers to report on their presence had the dragoness thinking for a short while before answering. "Maybe, although given how much food wyverns need they usually spread their territory wide so it can actually support them. Still, they're smart enough that they could have figured they'd be better off staying away from settlements and ships." As powerful as wyverns were they could still be killed by determined forces. These wyverns might simply be an example of a group which figured out that the bounties provided by raiding civilization weren't worth the trouble of experienced and powerful fighters hunting them down and destroying their lair.

As Leila made it clear that she wasn't willing to provide enough information Akeya's eyebrows lowered. Studying the silver-haired woman's appearance it was clear that her friend was in need of more sleep, which might somewhat explain the stubbornness but didn't make it any better. Akeya was very much aware of the desire to keep things to yourself, but she lived in a reality where at the bottom line she had to ensure her safety and prosperity herself. For dragons relying on others was a risk only taken in the most extreme of circumstances. "If that was meant as an attempt to scare me away that entity must be rather foolish." It might have worked on someone easily frightened, but for Akeya threats were to be dealt with. Evasion was the course of action taken if there was good reason to believe there was no way to take care of the threat in a more permanent fashion, which hadn't been the case this time around.

"However I have a hard time believing the you of that time had enough control over your thoughts and emotions that the danger was at zero. Especially since I see no reason to trust the entity who pushed you to that point." The dragoness's eyes were narrow and suspicious at this point, her stance tenser as she evaluated the situation. She felt like Leila was being too defensive about this entire thing, even claiming that the malicious entity actually had zero intention of causing any harm. That was a hard sell after throwing around the void and ripping into two light elementals like that. If that void power was actually natural to Leila that made things a bit less precarious but Akeya was having a hard time accepting that considering the circumstancse.

The dragoness would have preferred it if she could just leave it alone, but that would have been terrible risky and reckless. Her friend could use the void as a weapon, and there was an entity which could push her over the emotional edge but who Leila was determined not to reveal too much information about. She imagined that there'd be humans who'd try to sweep all that under the rug for the sake of friendship. Those types of humans would most likely die horrible deaths for prioritizing the short term gains of spending time together over the long term gain of everyone being prepared to handle the threat when it showed itself.

"With how little information I have available to me there's little I can do but prepare for the worst. I'm not planning to attack you, but you'll have to live with me being cautious if your final decision is to leave me ignorant about the threat we might be facing." Of course Leila had tried to reassure her that the threat was over with, but... "I don't think you're lying and so far it looks like your mind is still your own, but to blindly accept everything you say as the objective truth would be rather naive." Just because Leila wasn't lying on purpose didn't have to mean that her truthful statements were correct. It was entirely possible that the hostile presence was pushing the silver-haired goddess to say these things to prevent the dragoness knowing enough about what she was dealing with to plan countermeasures. In which case the easiest countermeasure would be to remain wary and study Leila cautiously to see if her friend might surrender any information unknowingly.

"Now, you said that part of the reason you came here was because the wyverns would be able to resist outbursts of magic. Was that solely for regaining control over your magic after that incident or was there more to it?" Akeya had already noticed that the void magic was failing to emanate the sensation of magic power, so a wyvern's resistance to magic might not help much about it. That and there was still that persistent irregularity in Leila's magic flow.

This time, Leila show a glare at Akeya. Not very often she did something like that, but her body seemed to react first, mind later. And she especially wanted to make clear that she was not some helpless puppy that another person needed to constantly worry about. Yes, some concern was always nice.

But overdoing it could easily make a person feel completely useless and devoid of any purpose at all. Make them feel like they only get in the way of others. And the girl hated that feeling with passion, as she never wanted to be truly useless when it came to interacting with others and the world.

I know myself better than anyone else. And I know everything I need to about my memories to say that there is no problem.” Akeya’s continued ignorance was not helping that case at all, either. It just made Leila sigh as she looked away, feeling all the more tired.

I think you’re the one who is foolish… for thinking you can always win, no matter what.” If there was one universal rule that always applied, then it was there a being stronger than you exists, somewhere, regardless of how strong you yourself are.

Especially when boundaries between different worlds and timelines could be actually breached. There were just certain dangers that even the combination of these two girls could never even hope to reach. And yet, the dragon was stubborn and always seemed to insist that she was above all other things.

Even though she herself needed help with her own powers not that long ago. Leila wouldn’t call someone who needed help from others omnipotent. Granted, the dragoness never said that specific word about herself and probably wasn’t as narcissistic as to claim that. But unconsciously, her pride might have suggested that sometimes.

They were both stubborn in their own right. Leila simply wasn’t about to give out any information about Aurora because her own life was on the line. Killing the goddess would, in turn, kill her as well. And all of Eden. Akeya might have been her partner, but she was not about to risk so many lives.

And so her gaze lowered, eventually, even her eyes closed. A soft sigh once again escaped between her parted lips, as she looked back up at the dragoness. “If that is how it must be, so be it. It’s not like I, or anyone else in the world, could ever change your mind.

Saying that it felt as if something inside of Leila broke. A vast, immensely cold feeling spread through her body. It felt like she was freezing on the inside. Growing numb. She had felt it before when Jiyu forever disappeared from her life.

Be cautious of me and treat me like a potential danger. It’s not like you ever had any intention of warming up to me, anyway… right? Because dragons are solitary creatures. Aside from having a convenient partner for hard assignments, you don’t even need me.

If that was all there was to it, then Akeya should be just fine with keeping her distance from Leila at all times. Naturally, Leila never wanted such an outcome. But it was one she should have probably expected to happen eventually.

The world was a cold place most of the time. True bonds were difficult to come about. So if they had to be nothing more than acquaintances, there was nothing she could do about it. Because she already tried. And it always just ended in some disaster. She couldn’t change Akeya’s mind without letting out information that would put her into mortal danger.

So she chose to be selfish. Because she didn’t want to die. She needed to hold her own life in her own hands. It almost looked like all life escaped from the girl’s eyes, leaving just a hollow reflection of the ocean blue that stared at the dragon.

I took on a task that placed me against a tough opponent. I had to use all I had and that, in turn, overloaded my magics. They are now leaking one into the other and creating chaos…

Well, maybe chaos was the wrong word. But it certainly wasn’t anything pleasant. Almost like her arms and legs doing whatever they wanted instead of how she actually wanted to move them. Only with her spells. So until she gained her control back, there was no going on jobs that required the usage of magic.

I just need to learn how to control powers that reside in me… that I never really used before. That’s all. Shouldn’t take me too long.” She was pretty dismissive of the issue. After all, she never had problems mastering her magic in the slightest.

But that was a bit of a lie on the outside. The reality was that the Gardens were part of her being. Or rather, the other way around. Thus her magic manifested completely naturally within her, even without any form of training whatsoever. This new magic, on the other hand, was completely different.

It had nothing to do with the Gardens of Eden and that was the reason why Leila wasn’t capable of properly controlling it. It was something she was not used to - having magic that actually needed some dedicated training and control. Something that did not come as naturally as breathing itself.

Still, the girl learned a lot about magic in her years of being a mage. So if she put her mind to it, she was sure that she’d be able to control it just fine. She was merely… scared of trying until now. But the situation changed drastically.

She was effectively forced to deal with it now or face a life where she would be unable to effectively use magic. The choice was obvious. Leila just needed to toss away all reservations she had about her own abilities and dive deep into the secrets of dragon’s heart that rested within her chest, right next to her own.

[Job] Dragonthorn (Akeya/Leila Vergious) Empty Re: [Job] Dragonthorn (Akeya/Leila Vergious)

Post by Akeya 2nd September 2019, 11:55 am

It looked like Akeya had managed to hit a real nerve this time around with her choice of words, since Leila actually gave her a glare. Her friend wasn't someone who was afraid to hide how she was feeling or what she thought about something, but she tended to refrain from getting angry unless it was a real outburst like what happened back at the festivities.

The problem was that the dragoness couldn't think of a way to explain the situation in a way which wouldn't offend Leila, since she was pretty sure the core message was part of what bothered the silver-haired goddess. She listened as the other woman explained that she was confident that her memories were unaltered and in good condition, her face showing little emotion behind her semi-standard frown of concentration and perhaps mild annoyance. When there were things messing with your mind it was a sign of true confidence to say that your own memories could be trusted. But Akeya couldn't say with certainty whether that confidence was warranted: if there was an entity which could mess with your head, how could you know for certain that they didn't change your memories so you don't realize something is off?

Beyond that however Leila's next reply made her blink in mild surprise. Was she being accused of not knowing when to admit defeat? She supposed that it might look like that from the outside, but she wouldn't let that one pass unanswered. "It's not that I believe I'll always win, it's that I will always try to plan to win even if sometimes I must admit defeat and retreat. Admitting defeat must be done after you've at least entertained the thought of succeeding. And the reason why I call that entity foolish is because they still used you as the face and didn't do much more than throw around void without much purpose. While dangerous it didn't come across as immediately life-threatening, and even if you're enraged beyond reason you don't give the impression of being the kind of person who'd set out to intentionally kill unless provoked and challenged to ridiculous levels."

The main issue remained the same, however: Leila refused to divulge more information regarding that entity which had helped cause the incident, and which had a link to Leila. Akeya wasn't trying to doubt her friend's capability or her words, but for her the matter was straightforward: you don't take any risks dealing with this kind of situation, not even to prove that you trust someone. Leaving someone in the dark just meant that if something went wrong they'd be ill equipped to handle it. If someone tried to hire her for a mission but couldn't provide any useful data about potential threats the assassin would argue that as valid grounds to refuse the mission. Unknown variables got you killed very quickly.

But the silver-haired woman was definitely taking it personally, as even someone like Akeya could see. The way her friend's eyes seemed to lose most of their life and vigour was something Akeya was pretty sure would have startled most people. For her part she found it somewhat uncomfortable to behold, which she found rather surprising in itself. She didn't think she'd become that attached to Leila but apparently a part of her genuinely cared for the girl and voiced strong disapproval at seeing her so heartbroken. The dragoness gritted her teeth behind closed lips, folding her arms and pressing her fingers against the scaled skin of her upper arms before shaking her head rather strongly. "I try to be open to the possibility of being wrong, but that's not the point here. If I didn't care one bit about warming up to you I wouldn't have bothered to invite you for the festivities. Solitary creatures don't need company as much as social creatures but that doesn't mean we're allergic to it. We can still appreciate the qualities of other creatures and enjoy their presence. I'm not making this decision because I want to or even because I don't care, it's because we're dealing with something which could potentially be disastrous and a single mistake could be fatal. An unknown threat is significantly more dangerous than a known threat, and while you say that there's nothing to be worried about that still leaves me not knowing what the best course of action would be if something outside of your expectations occurred."

She took a deep breath before resuming, her words coming out faster than normal. "Nothing is ever completely safe, just like there's always the possibility of success there's always the possibility of disaster. To account for those possibilities we make contingency plans, but if you have limited data available you have to err on the side of caution because it's almost always true that you can more easily recover from being too prepared than you can recover from being not prepared enough. That's why with what little information you are willing to provide I can only prepare for the worst which includes the possibility of a surprise assault from a direction neither of us expects. I'd much rather that this wasn't necessary because it's unpleasant and troublesome for the both of us but people who prioritize comfort over pragmatism die quickly." She unfolded her arms as she first pointed at Leila, then at herself. "I'm not doing this because I want to, or because I don't trust you, or for the sake of being stubborn. I'm doing this because I don't want either of us to die. I'm doing this because I might need to be prepared to eliminate, banish, disable or contain anything that would get us killed. I won't deny that self-preservation is one of my highest priorities if not the highest but if I didn't care about you and didn't want you to live as well I'd have chosen the simplest route of elimination already. If you were practically anybody else we wouldn't be having this conversation, I'd have been planning how to reliably eliminate you."

Taking another heavy breath Akeya's eyes were narrowed to the point of being slits, appearing a lot more annoyed than usual or even outright angry. She found it incredibly frustrating that she had to explain all of this just to try and make the wolf girl understand that Akeya's approach to the issue was influenced by her trying to ensure the survival of both of them, not because of apathy or whatever else Leila had convinced herself was driving the dragoness's actions. She still listened to the rest of what her friend had to say but she was too busy being more genuinely furious than she'd been in a long time to focus on that as long as the other issue remained in the air.

    Leila Vergious  ❃  Y-rank  ❃  Silver Wolf
Leila was assaulted by a barrage of words from the dragoness’ side, something that she did not expect. The other girl was normally someone who said only what needed to be said and then kept quiet, perhaps in accordance of her assassin-like presence. But this time was quite different, or at least it seemed to be.

In all honesty, it felt very much like every single argument they have had up until now. One of them saying something and then the other trying to conjure up a good enough reason for whatever they did or said. Something almost all, if not all, creatures did. No one liked being wrong, after all. And most importantly of all, everyone had a truth of their own that they would follow.

Leila couldn’t even really find the energy required to try and contests all that Akeya had said. And even if she did, it would only lead to more arguing. Because the dragoness clearly wasn’t interested in hearing anything from the maiden’s side, from her perspective. She had no desire to know her ‘life story’ and why she acted the way she did.

So she decided to say just a few things and give up there. If you really want us both to survive, then you will stop. Because no matter what you would do, it would result in the death of one of us. Either you would die trying to find an entity that would kill you before you would take a single breath, or you would kill me. Because my life and hers are inseparable. We are one and the same.

Two sides of a single coin. And two halves of a single soul. Two fragments of one whole that could only exist as long as the rest was around as well. Trying to do something about Aurora even after that would make Akeya from careful to just outright stupid. She claimed that she at least needed to entertain the thought if victory, but how would one win against someone who already froze the dragoness in time and could have killed her thousand times over in that single moment?

[Job] Dragonthorn (Akeya/Leila Vergious) Empty Re: [Job] Dragonthorn (Akeya/Leila Vergious)

Post by Akeya 4th September 2019, 2:21 pm

After her outburst Akeya fell silent, although her heated glare remained. She hadn't been aware that she'd been that agitated, but now all of that was out in the open. Now she just had to see how Leila would respond. Would she still hold fast to the idea that Akeya was uncaring? The assassin had also noticed how they seemed to be going in circles, and she wasn't happy about it either. If by this point there wasn't enough trust between the two of them that the silver-haired goddess couldn't accept that Akeya was actually trying to take the course of action that was beneficial for the both of them instead of only serving her own needs... If that was the case the dragoness would have to accept that this issue couldn't have a tidy resolution.

Fortunately she had a handful of seconds to consider her next course of action, since it seemed her friend also had been caught off guard by Akeya's unusually angry rant. What she saw in the eyes of the goddess was that she was just as tired of this entire situation as Akeya was. Neither of them wanted to deal with this, but they differed in opinion on how to handle it: Leila wanted to shove it away into a corner, believing that there was nothing worth talkiing about, whereas Akeya thought it an unpleasant but necessary thing to address. It actually had pushed Akeya to being more forthright than she usually was, which took quite some doing.

When Leila replied at first Akeya thought it was just the same argument all over again... but then she blinked and her eyes widened as the silver-haired wolf girl standing in front of her revealed some rather vital information which cast the entire situation into a new light. The asasssin actually showed visible startlement as she processed this new data and what it meant. While it was possible that some entirely different creature had wormed its way inside Leila's mind one had to keep in mind probabilities, and the much more likely option was that 'her' was that goddess Leila had mentioned before. Which would also explain why she had been so stubborn about not revealing any more information.

Especially with how she had been looking at Akeya and what she'd been saying...

"I... see. And you didn't want to tell me that because... you were worried that I might succeed in killing her, but in the process drag you along as well." It wasn't the worst line of reasoning. Akeya was very blunt regarding the natural cycle of kill and be killed, along with being rather apathetic towards the wants and needs of most people. She actually did care for Leila's but the goddess was something of an exception which had only formed after working together for long enough for the dragoness to notice that a part of her really appreciated having Leila around. She wasn't sure whether it was the same feeling social creatures had towards one another, but Leila definitely ranked near the top of the list of people she'd want as her company if in a situation where being alone would be undesirable.

So the line of reasoning was sound, which somehow made it even worse. The dragoness wordlessly walked over to the nearest piece of rock which she judged as not being responsible for carrying the weight of all the stone above and around it, and then headbutted it. Horns met rock and rock quickly gave way, cracks quickly spreading out from the point of contact until the entire thing looked like it might fall apart.

Straightening back up Akeya looked over her shoulder at Leila, her expression now chagrined but calmer than before. "If your lives are bound together then I could hardly call it a success even if I managed to kill her. Only a weakling would call it a success if along the path of eliminating the target someone of value to them also died." She still wasn't entirely happy, but at the very least she thought it safe to assume that she wasn't dealing with an emergency. From what little she knew of Aurora and the Garden of Eden they weren't the kind of entities which would be planning to wreck an entire world. Placing a clawed hand in front of her face she sighed, then turned around to face Leila while placing the hand back on her hip.

"Having a better understanding of the situation I'll leave it be for now. Let's focus on more pressing matters, because going by your own words you're currently unable to use magic until you regain control." Not the biggest emergency either since there was nothing indicating that Leila would need to be able to use her magic as quickly as possible, but it was still something better taken care off sooner rather than later. "Ever since I arrived here I sensed an odd familiarity from you. Is that related to the current situation?" It explained why she'd felt a certain roughness to Leila's flow of mana: if different magic types were mixing without control that would result in the mana itself becoming unstable.

While Akeya wasn't lying when she showed interest in this development she also was hoping that they could leave behind that other topic for now, now that she no longer had to fear the possibility that she was facing a world-class emergency. With some luck Leila would feel the same and also engage this new topic with more enthusiasm... although either way the dragoness still felt she had to somehow imprint the thought into her friend's head that as cold and calculating as she was, she wasn't completely without emotions or attachments. She just tried her best to not let them get in the way of rational thought and decision-making.

    Leila Vergious  ❃  Y-rank  ❃  Silver Wolf
Leila looked to the side, one of her hands taking hold of the other as it remained alongside her body. It seemed that her partner finally realized what exactly was going on here. At least partially, anyway. “I’ve no doubt that you would not succeed in killing her. Obviously that in itself is a reason for me to not want you to…

Trailing off somewhat, the girl looked genuinely sad as she looked into nothingness, her posture tired and slightly crooked even as the black cloak tried to cover as much of it as possible. But some things just could not be very easily hidden. Especially if the one in question was an emotional person.

That said, Akeya’s next action did throw her off extremely. Watching in sheer shock and perhaps even horror as she effectively head-butted the nearest boulder, which thankfully was not made out of obsidian, she had absolutely zero ideas how to respond to such an event.

At the very least, she was thankful that there appeared to be no injury or signs of blood on her partner’s forehead. Then again, maybe it didn’t even make a contact with the surface thanks to those horns. Regardless, Leila wasn’t quite able to conjure up any of her healing spells, so it was a plus.

With how calm her expression was after such an action, the maiden couldn’t help but sigh again and plant one of her palms straight on her face. What was even happening at this point? Everything surrounding the situation felt like such a blur because of the intense emotions that it all brought, then they were arguing about things and now… this?

Just leave it be for good… nothing will ever be able to change our reality…” Muttering these last few words under her breath, Leila finally felt some sense of relief off of her chest. This ridiculous situation that was literally tearing them apart could finally come to a close and the mistake that happened at the Clover town could fade into obscurity.

Focusing now on the present, Leila looked around the area. There was nothing else nearby, all of the wyverns that showed interest before now wandering off to do their own thing the moment they felt Akeya’s potential hostility fade. Taking in a deep breath, the silver maiden decided it would probably be much easier to show the dragoness what was going on.

Extending one of her hands to the side, she would start manipulating her ethernano supply much like she would if she desired to cast an ordinary spell, something she did many times every single day. An act as natural as breathing itself. But the moment she unleashed it all, even more of magical energy flew out of her body and collided with the one Leila actually wanted to use.

This, of course, was not something that could be observed with a naked eye. But just about any mage could surely feel the discord within the girl, especially one as strong as Akeya. The actually visible result was one of many different vines appearing, breaking apart the ground and shooting out almost like serpents along the stone surface for some distance before stopping.

If that was the only thing, then it would be a fairly standard result of the girl’s spells. But there was more than normal. Crimson red roses bloomed all over the vines, something akin to red lightning shimmering over them every so often. They were clearly volatile. Something that was reinforced when most of them exploded after only a few seconds.

Though these were no ordinary explosions, either. They were very contained, almost as if the roses become invisible daggers that pierced through the vines they were on top of with a force imaginable. With the spell effectively self-destructing like that, all that was left were countless rose petals flying through the air, eventually dissipating into the air.

This is the problem, as you can see. As for the familiarity… I can only assume it’s because of your draconic nature. This new power comes from a crystallized heart… one that is now inside of my chest, right next to my actual heart. It is a heart that once belonged to a Rose dragon. But it perished… before it fully died, it crystallized its own heart and gave it to me.

Accompanying the words was a gesture of Leila gently putting one of her hands onto her chest and gently pressing against the fabric that covered her. What she just said might have sounded like a horror story to some. And if the crystal heart were not as beautiful as it was before it entered Leila, then the girl herself would probably be appalled to some degree.

However, it was given to her voluntarily. A gift for making sure that the dragon could die in peace, rather than by having its head taken by the dragon slayers as a trophy for their wall. A sad story for certain, but one that Leila had thought about enough already. What mattered was the fact that this dragon’s power was now her own.

Except the girl wasn’t exactly capable of controlling it just yet. Until now, she was able to just keep it inside of her, not use it at all. But after working her body to the bone, going well beyond her regular limits, it was essentially forced out. By forcibly invoking the state of dragon force, she caused a change. And now she had to learn how to control this power of hers.

[Job] Dragonthorn (Akeya/Leila Vergious) Empty Re: [Job] Dragonthorn (Akeya/Leila Vergious)

Post by Akeya 10th September 2019, 9:42 am

Akeya could hardly be surprised at Leila's lack of faith in the belief that the dragoness might be able to kill a goddess. Deities were powerful beyond powerful after all. Even dragons, mighty as they were, had to be wary of them. Especially if that deity was inside their own territory. To attack a creature of that level inside their own lair was tantamount to suicide. Of course Akeya didn't think it was impossible, but it was one of the riskiest challenges one could set for themselves, dragon or not.

Although now that she knew that killing Aurora would also result in killing Leila the entire idea was into the trashcan anyway. So the task both was incredibly difficult and had downsides to it that the assassin wasn't willing to accept at this point in time. She was somewhat surprised at how sad Leila looked as she voiced her lack of trust in Akeya's abilities, but at this point it would be better to just leave the matter alone. They could possibly return to it at a later date.

She did have to visibly restrain herself from snapping a response when she caught her friend saying that they couldn't change reality, however. She placed one clawed hand on the cracked boulder in front of herself and took another deep breath before shaking her head. She strongly disagreed with the idea that one should just sit down and accept things, but arguing that now would just keep the fight going with nothing fruitful coming form it.

But with that matter shelved for now she returned to the other situation, namely Leila having issue with her magic. Now that things had calmed down a bit and those wyverns were no longer making weak attempts at appearing threatening the dragoness could try to figure out how to resolve that, as well as confirm the suspicion she had. Leila's magic felt familiar, not in the way it felt when you'd seen something before but when you met someone who you'd known a long time ago. Leila also appeared a lot more eager with this new topic, as she immediately moved to demonstrate the issue she was having. The dragoness took the wise decision to move out of the way so if there was a splash effect to the silver-haired goddess's magic misfiring she wouldn't be in the blast radius.

Folding her arms she observed with her usual intense gaze. Leila was correct in assuming that Akeya would have little trouble sensing the flow of mana. Aside from her strength her draconic nature also made her finely attuned to the flow of mana, and she'd trained that sensitivity to the limit. However she was incorrect in assuming that the twilight dragon was unable to see the flow: an ability she kept a secret from practically everybody because of how useful it was to be nearly the only who could see mana in the same way that others saw physical objects. She could see how the magic flowed Leila the same as always, but also how from within that elegant body more magic of a different nature poured forth, dragged along by Leila's usual magic. Or just bursting out at the first sign of an opening that mana could flow through. The two different magic types mixed, forming a volatile combination which quickly destroyed itself and which also resulted in the vines Leila was trying to create being erased.

"It's a very spectacular problem, I'll give you that." Was Akeya's first remark. She reached out one hand towards one of the petals which was still floating through the air, but it dissipated before it touched her. Rubbing thumb and forefinger together she looked towards Leila as her friend explained it in more detail. "So you're saying you got the lachrima of a rose dragon. But now that you've forcefully pulled out its powers once you can't suppress it any more, so it keeps mixing with your own magic." Having obtained all the information the situation didn't even seem that odd. The main oddity was that the dragon magic was reacting with Leila's Eden magic like that, and that was mostly because examples similar to this talked about someone who was just starting to learn how to use magic.

"Dragon magic is much more strongly integrated into the self than most types of magic used by the mortals. That's because we dragons are creatures of magic. When you first got the lachrima you most likely suppresed it either consciously or unconsciously, and because of its crystallization it was in a dormant state. But if it's awake now..." Akeya curled a finger beneath her mouth while supporting her elbow with the other scaled hand. "It might be that part of the problem is that your original magic is also innate, so you use it the same way that you'd use dragon magic. And now that the lachrima is activated that means you're pulling both magics at the same time while only trying to control one, and the lack of control means the other one goes wild and makes both magics fall apart. Violently."

Magic was a wonderful thing, capable of amazing feats, but it could also be very difficult to use. There were countless stories of young mages who just acquired the ability to use magic wreaking havoc as their magic went haywire. If Akeya was judging this correctly this was a similar issue, but somewhat unusually present in a much more powerful and experienced magic user.

"Have you tried only drawing on the lachrima's power? It might help if you spend some time focusing on mastering the magic of the rose dragon. You'd have an easier time sensing it and controlling it, so if it tried to burst out you could quell it."

The girl stared at Akeya for a bit, looked around, and then fixated her gaze on the dragoness again. All of what she said made sense, but there was one detail that she might have not been considering. Especially since Leila never explicitly made it known to people, figuring it was not really necessary.

Well, I’m not exactly human myself… and much like dragons, I am a creature of magic. No… I am so much more than dragons ever could be.” Considering what her true ‘self’ was, the nature of Aurora and how she came to be, it was fair to say that no being could be more of magic than she was.

Her body right now was of flesh and blood, yes. But that was not necessarily her true body if one were to get technical. A rather complicated matter that would only waste their time if they were to dive into it any deeper. The point was that Leila did not necessarily abide by the same rules as humans. Or even dragons.

It’s also not necessarily that I cannot suppress it. But the dragon’s magic already blended with my regular one to some degree. So even if I do not use the rose powers, my normal ones will still draw it out, as they have started becoming one. Because I cannot control one of them and stop it from doing so…

Once again, the issue was not necessarily as simple as just not knowing how to use of the magics she had within her. But learning how to control it was definitely the first step to her figuring out the rest on her own later. Or perhaps even very soon after. That was to be seen once the immediate problem was solved and no longer in the way.

And I have tried to draw it out by itself. It's possible, of course. But as I lack control over it… well, do stay a bit further back.” Extending her hands forth, numerous vines crawled over them and roses once again bloomed all over the girl’s hands, a beautiful sight.

However, they were shaking violently, the magic that was creating them trying to run wild. It was unfocused and desired motion. The magic itself was in an agitated state which was started by the aforementioned dragon force. It has not calmed down ever since and that might have been the root of the problem here.

In just a few seconds, the magic got so wild that it finally completely snapped out, the roses exploding outward and creating something akin to numerous magical slashes all around Leila, cutting apart whatever was in the range, mostly rock. That was unless Akeya refused to stay back, anyway.

Letting out a sigh, Leila reinforced the idea that there was no shortcut to improving the situation present. But there was something else that she had to show the dragoness, as it was closely connected to this new magic that was wildly swirling inside of her physical body. This time, she extended forth only one of her hands.

Rose petals appeared seemingly out of nowhere as they swayed around the smooth and pale skin, soon clustering together in her palm as they changed their form. As if using make-type magic of some sort, a weapon of sorts forged itself within the girl’s grasp. A long sword that should have been far too heavy and big to be wielded in one hand alone.

But Leila showcased that she had zero issues manipulating it with ease. This was natural, as it was perfectly weighted for her. A weapon created exactly for the user. “This is Rose’s Thorn. A second gift from the dragon. Originally its talon, it completely transformed into a tool that can reforge itself.

Taking hold of it, she suddenly flipped it around and pointed the rather sharp edge against her chest, even slightly cutting apart her clothes. Probably an alarming gesture, but one that was meant to emphasize what the girl was about to say next. “And the second half of the lacrima within me.

Staring straight at the dragoness, she continued explaining a bit more. “As they were both a part of the dragon once, reuniting them will result in the dragon’s true power being released. To use a term human wielders of the slayer magic made, it will forcibly activate Dragon Force.

Letting the weapon dissolve again into petals that surrounded the girl, she scratched the back of her head. “Though reuniting it with the lacrima also means stabbing myself with it. Something I had to do in order to defeat an enemy I faced after the Festival and what started my whole problem. Clearly it also didn’t kill me despite impaling my heart.

Not that it would have really killed her, given her immortal shackles. But it didn’t even destroy her current physical body, it was still very much the same one she always had. So the dragon’s magic ensured that the normally fatal wound was healed during the force itself, or after it. Quite honestly, Leila didn’t have the time to check when it happened during her fight.

Letting out a sigh, she took few steps as her back leaned against a nearby slashed wall of stone. Hopefully she told Akeya everything that was required to solve this situation. There might have very well been details she was forgetting, but those could always be brought out later on. For right now, she just stared at the dragon with her cold blue eyes.

She didn’t exactly know what to expect here. Akeya was a dragon, but possessing such magic naturally was surely different from obtaining it through drastic means like this. Not to mention that their biology was vastly different, affecting the magic in wildly different ways. But then again, she was also someone who seemed to study a great many things. So perhaps she would be able to help Leila after all. It was yet to be seen. But at least they weren’t arguing now.

Post by Akeya 12th September 2019, 7:11 am

Akeya nodded as Leila stated that she wasn't a human, but then had to resist the urge to snort and roll her eyes at what came next. Given that they'd just had an argument about something else she didn't think it'd be productive to enter another argument about who was more than who. "I'm aware you're not human, but I suspect that there's still some similarities between you and them, and also between you and dragons." Regardless of just how magical Leila really was the fact would remain that she was a creature of magic. Given that dragons were also creatures of magic there would be some overlap in behaviour where magic was concerned, leaving unique properties of the respective species aside.

For the rest it sounded like what Akeya had already been suspecting, albeit with some minor differences. She wouldn't have expected the two magics to actually be trying to merge: while she assumed that drawing on one would leave an opening for the other magic to burst out as well she'd have figured the two magics would still act independently. "I see... Possessing light and dark myself I confess I didn't think of your two magics trying to combine, given that my two elements are polar opposites and thus conflict more likely than cooperate. However if your rose dragon magic has a strong resonance with the nature magic from Eden... That would make sense." In the same way that two people could have personalities that worked well together different magics could also have matching types. Or in this case, their types were similar enough that constant exposure to one another was causing them to slowly become one?

Given that Leila was about to give a demonstration of what happened when she tried to draw upon the dragon's power Akeya left that line of reasoning alone for now so she could instead step backwards and observe carefully what would happen next. Her emerald eyes were trained on the goddess when the magical roses formed, carefully studying the way the mana flowed through the body of her friend who clearly was trying to contain the magic. She could see and feel the magic squirm and twist as if alive, trying to run rampant despite Leila's attempts at keeping it in line. And eventually the goddess couldn't contain it any more and the dragoness watched the surroundings stones get shredded.

She'd already opened her mouth to comment when she saw more magic surging forth from inside Leila, together with the outstretched arm indicating that the demonstration wasn't over yet. Remaining silent she watched as a curious blade appeared inside Leila's hand, looking quite unique but at the same time fitting to the situation.

She gave a nod to indicate that she was listening as Leila explained the nature of the blade, but when suddenly she was pointing the tip at her own heart the dragoness's eyes narrowed and one clawed hand shot up as if skipping all the positions in between relaxed and upraised. Shadows swirled around the sword like trickles of black smoke, and if Leila hadn't resumed speaking to indicate that she wasn't actually planning to stab herself they'd have rather violently attempted to interfere.

Leila's eyes were met by a rather annoyed glare, the dragoness's expression that of displeasure and some measure of annoyance. When the goddess finished explaining severel seconds passed before Akeya lowered her claw and the shadows disappeared. "A little bit of warning next time would be appreciated." Was all she said at first. Sighing and shaking her head she tried to cast aside the annoyance she felt to instead focus on the problem at hand.

The demonstration had helped reveal some more information, but it hadn't really told Akeya anything that would help solve Leila's conundrum any faster. The only thing that was really new was that her friend's draconic power was divided into two halves. And even that didn't necessarily mean much: it was common practice for someone to store parts of a magic or a spell into multiple parts both to contain a power which would be difficult to hold within one container, and to make it harder for someone with malicious intentions to make use of it.

She folded her arms back together as Leila appeared to be lost in thought about how to tackle all of this. Cocking her head to the side her frown softened somewhat as it became more thoughtful again. "I can see this developing in two different directions. If you're fine with the two magics becoming one it should happen without you needing to do much more than be patient, and perhaps refine the process by training your magic the same way a novice would do. It looks like both you and your own magic are compatible with that of the rose dragon so at the very least you don't have to worry much about being poisoned by it." She tapped her arm. 'If you wanted to keep them separate things could get complicated... I assume you don't just want to get rid of it." Removing the lachrima would resolve the issue technically, although it wouldn't be a pleasant process. In fact from what she'd been told humans generally didn't survive it.

After thinking about it some more she unfolded her arms and shrugged her shoulders. "I can't really think of a method to deal with this which is faster than lots of practice. The more you practise the more you'll get accustomed to it and the easier it'll be to control it. It'll also accelerate the merging of your two magics. Although... when you call on the dragon's magic, what does it feel like to you? Does it feel like a part of yourself or just something which is buried within yourself? Is it constantly straining to be released or does it only begin to struggle when you draw it out? Have you tried to release it with forming it yet?" She didn't think any of these questions would change the answer to the problem, but it would help paint a sharper picture of how things were developing inside of the silver-haired goddess.

While the two girls might have had a problem that was similar in its overall nature, the details of it all were rather different when it came down to it. Especially concerning the nature of their magic. Akeya was having trouble because two opposing elements were clashing inside of her and that caused irregularities.

Leila, on the other hand, was someone who always associated with the element of nature as a whole. Rose dragon magic was an extension of that, in a way. Something that belonged in nature. Thus the two aspects interacted rather easily, effectively creating the opposite problem that the dragoness had before.

Thus the case of said two magics having strong resonance was entirely reasonable and probably the actual cause of all the issues at hand. Which was actually quite intriguing, as the two powers came from wildly different sources that did not share any common history, yet their structure allowed for something like this to happen.

But from that one fairly reasonable exchange, they quickly got to one that was a bit… hasted. Leila’s actions were probably somewhat alarming, yes. But she did not expect the dragoness to react in the way she did, especially given how impartial she normally stayed.

Suffice to say, the tendrils of darkness did spook the silver-haired maiden a bit, but thankfully she was trained enough to not instinctively jerk her body and accidentally actually impale herself. So once her hasted ‘aid’ retreated after realizing there was nothing to be actually worried about, Leila sighed lightly.

I’ll try to give you one, but surely you can trust me to not just randomly stab myself with a sword, not knowing what I’m doing.” After all, they both finally calmed down from that whole emotion-infused situation from before. But then again, it was still very fresh in their memory.

Putting that aside, they were able to easily return back to the task at hand, which was discovering exactly what was going on with Leila’s magic. Or perhaps ‘discover’ was not the right word, as they both knew exactly what was happening at this point.

The question was whether there was any quick way to put a stop to it. And after all that Akeya had said, it appeared that the answer was, unfortunately, a resounding no. Leila couldn’t say she was necessarily surprised by this, as her original intention was to remain on this island for a while and just train with the magic.

That way she would be able to control it eventually. Akeya’s visit here was not something she had planned at all. But now that she was here, there was no reason to not have a discussion about potential means of speeding the process up.

I thought about just letting the two magics combine at first, but… my powers come from the Gardens of Eden. A pure realm that is very sensitive to outside influence. In the past, there were humans who wanted the realm’s power. But the moment they got portions of it, well…

Taking hold of one of her sleeves, she slowly pulled it back to reveal the Eden’s mark. It was nothing new, just the same old portion of skin that was of gray color with black markings, its texture more akin to the surface of a tree than actual human skin. It was always there, but Leila didn’t quite recall if she ever explained its nature to the dragoness.

Their humanity which is capable of sinning corrupted parts of the Garden as a result. To this day, there is a dead forest of this corruption where nothing but one single spirit lives. It no longer spreads, but the mark is clear even on my body. Human interaction was harmful to the Gardens of Eden.

Pulling the sleeve back, she continued. “Dragon influence would obviously be different, but I think we can both agree that your kin is also capable of evil acts. As such, the results of combining the two magics together could have potentially devastating effects on the world that gave me and many other spirits birth.

In other words, it was a risk she wasn’t really really willing to take. If the process began and something went wrong, it would be potentially impossible to sever the two forces at that point. It was actually ironic that the two powers had such great resonation, yet one could obliterate the other if their connection became too deep.

So that is where I stand. I was planning to start my training here anyway. One to gain control of this new power and keep it separate from my innate magic. As for how it feels… It’s very clearly part of the dragon heart that now rests in my chest. And that heart is part of my body. Perhaps not yet perfectly, but it will get there as well.

Maybe that was the necessary step. Once the second heart fully became part of Leila, the magic could recognize her much more easily and let itself be controlled by the new user. But that was nothing more than a small theory inside of the girl’s head, the only way of confirming or denying it being that of waiting and seeing the actual result.

[Job] Dragonthorn (Akeya/Leila Vergious) Empty Re: [Job] Dragonthorn (Akeya/Leila Vergious)

Post by Akeya 15th September 2019, 5:56 am

Akeya folded her arms as Leila showed minor frustration at the dragoness's reaction to seeing that rose-themed blade pointed at her friend's chest. The problem was that Leila was sometimes as difficult to read for Akeya as she was for Leila. In Akeya's case Leila found it difficult to figure out what she would do because she was logical to the point of being cold, which for a particularly warm-blooded person like the goddess was rather difficult to parse. But naturally this also meant that for the highly rational-minded Akeya someone more driven by emotion like Leila could end up jumping into strange and alarming directions.

She didn't exactly think that her friend was legitimately trying to kill herself, but she couldn't say so with absolute certainty, especially if said friend was in essence threatening herself with her own blade. The explanation that Leila needed to pierce the lachrima with the blade which originated from the same dragon did help to calm Akeya down, although she remained a tad bothered by that little demonstration.

"I do trust you not to do anything truly foolish, but given that just a couple of minutes ago I admitted to actually finding your well-being important I hope you understand I might not be entirely willing to take risks." The truth was that she would rather that she hadn't blurted that out, but now that she'd said it she might as well stand by it. She doubted that Leila would just forget, and while she wasn't above lying and deception she was also by nature rather blunt, and if the only reason she denied having said something was because she found it embarrassing that'd just feel even more humiliating since it'd mean she couldn't even overcome her own emotional inhibitions.

"Keeping the two separate is going to be difficult." She immediately observed this when Leila explained that she had reservations towards the idea. As the goddess revealed the mark on her arm Akeya stepped closer to study it, emerald eyes pouring over the bark-like skin before meeting Leila's blue eyes once more. At the comment of sinning the dragoness raised an eyebrow, but refrained from saying anything until the other mage had said her piece on the subject. At which point she spoke with a somewhat dry tone of voice. "Us dragons are definitely capable of committing acts that would be considered reprehensible by many mortals and deities. Although I'm more interested in your claim that Eden would be beyond such things unless influenced by outside sources." While she wasn't necessarily trying to start an argument the dragoness was somewhat doubtful that the Garden of Eden would be incapable of sin on its own, especially since she had doubts about the concept of sin being set in stone.

"That aside, I can understand that if your being is strongly linked to an entire realm of existence you'd be hesitant to bring about a significant change in yourself. Keeping the two magics separate might be difficult... but it should not be impossible." Taking a step backwards to create some space between the two of them she scratched her chin. "The main obstacle will be that as you train to gain control you'll also be accelerating the process of merging the two magics, so we'd have to find a way to make you gain enough control to keep them apart before they've merged too far to be kept separated. I think I could help with that but it might be challenging... or just horribly tedious." She tapped her forehead, where many religions would imply there's something called a third eye. "My first suggestion would be that before you start learning how to use it you focus on improving your sensory abilities. Which would mean that most of your training would consist of meditating. The better you are at detecting every little difference between the two magics the easier it'd be to make sure you're only using one of them. With some luck you could find a difference which could be used to trigger usage of one which does not cause the other to be dragged along."

"Of course even if you focused on improving your ability to sense the minute details the actual control would also still be vital. It might help if we found something which at least temporarily could forcefully keep the two magics separate. Obviously that would become problematic if you tried to use it as a permanent solution but for short periods of time it could be treated as a training aid. Hrmmmm..."
As a new thought came to her she fell silent, looking at Leila thoughtfully as she considered the pros and cons. She did have an idea, but she'd have to trust the goddess and the Garden of Eden for it to work...

"I... do have something of a suggestion, although I must admit I'm not confident of it being a good idea myself. You don't have to train your innate magic, the only thing you need to train is the dragon magic. As long as both are inside your body and you're using both of them the merging of the two magics would advance. One possible solution would be to see if you could seal away your innate magic for a short period of time so you can put all your focus into mastering the rose dragon's magic. Of course I don't know whether you can seal your innate magic away or whether that'd be a good idea..." She shrugged. "Given how extreme a measure that would be I could try to inspect you and craft some runes which would keep the two magics separate. Dragon magic is very familiar to me ven if it's of a different element, so it shouldn't be impossible for me to craft a rune that would separate the dragon magic from your innate magic."

It was admittedly quite nice that Akeya was now actually showing some semblance of caring for those around her. The two of them would no longer necessarily feel like complete strangers, but that was actually not quite assured by this just yet. That said, the change seemed to come about rather quickly, which was what threw Leila for a loop.

I’ll keep that in mind. Though you never exactly tried to forcibly stop me from doing something dangerous, so I’m sure you understand how jarring that was as well.” Rather, Akeya seemed like someone who did not get physical much at all.

Sure, there were a few times when the two of them shared such contact, but it was hardly common. But all that aside, Leila listened to the dragoness’ little retort when it came to saying anything at all about dragons. As usual, she was very quick to either defend dragons or point out the flaws of others.

I’ve never made such a claim. But it would also be somewhat difficult for the Gardens to do anything bad, or good for that matter. I might be able to draw the power of that realm and use it for just about anything, but I am also a bit special.

Children of Eden, or the Goddess who rules it, are beings that can use the powers of Eden freely without being able to corrupt it. All other beings will, however. For the reasons I already stated. The only ‘foreign’ entity that could wield it without inciting corruption would be one incapable of anything evil.

But such being probably did not even exist. And if it did, then its existence must have been a miserable one as it was not even really capable of free will, which in turn would probably prevent it from wanting to take such power for itself in the first place. In other words, it was a problem not worthy of thinking about at the moment.

Not that anyone should expect the rules of other dimensions to make any sense, to begin with. What came next was Leila listening to the dragoness’ fairly lengthy pondering and explanation on how to solve the situation without having the two magics merge. The girl made sure to listen as much as she could.

Meditation was not exactly something she had a problem with, but it was something that normally took a lot of time. Her senses were also already quite strong, both on an ethernano-based level and more tangible one. After all, she had her wolf form where all of her senses would be at least on par with those wielding slayer magic.

And as a high-level mage herself, she naturally was able to easily sense the flow of magic particles themselves. Not just that, the fact she was very similar to spirits who were also beings of near pure magic helped quite a bit as well. The fact that she had trouble separating the two powers now even with that made it quite troublesome of a choice, however.

That said, the second proposal was of something that the girl already considered herself. And something that might have been much more plausible than Akeya had assumed. Scratching the back of her head, Leila took a moment of silence before also taking a few steps back so that there would be a fair bit of distance between them.

Let’s go with option number two. My ability to focus and sense magic is already far above what a normal person would need to keep their powers separate. But I also don’t think there will be any need for your runes… hopefully. I guess we’ll see in just a moment, so stay back for a bit.

Extending her hand forth, she began gathering her magic again. This was obviously something they wanted to stop in some way, as it would eventually lead to the merge. But hopefully, it would also be the last time she needed to use a spell before they would succeed and her training would begin. A swirl of golden light formed between the two girls.

The one who fears not the frigid winds and endless winters, the queen of ice and dragons, I seek your power in the time of need. Come, come, aid me, oh beloved ice-born queen!
Gate of Eden's Frozen Dragon - Yuki!

With the summoning spell quickly chanted, the golden light formed an orb of sorts that then dissipated, leaving in its center a new figure. And despite her small and petite size, one that seemed to radiate with magical power. She slowly turned to face Leila with her expressionless, emotionless face as was always the case.

You two had another argument..?” “Err, no… I don’t want you to fight her… I need to temporarily disconnect myself from the Gardens so I can focus on training of this new magic inside of me without the two powers colliding and merging together. Think you can take care of that.

The white-haired dragon child remained stationary and without a reply for a moment before turning around to face Akeya. She might have as well been a titan when compared to Yuki, but there was not even a hint of intimidation. And, well… they were both dragons, so maybe there was something more going on than Leila was able to see.

Take care of her until she’s done. Since she won’t be able to call any of us… oh, but I’ll tell the one who can come just in case.” So with that rather quickly put out of the way, Yuki disappeared into a cluster of golden light again, her figure quickly vanishing and leaving no trace and all.

Only a few minutes of waiting later, Leila started feeling rather dizzy seemingly out of nowhere, stumbling around and nearly falling onto the ground. All of Eden’s energy that was currently gathered inside of her became visible as a sort of blue-ish shield around her body that suddenly shattered. And with that, her entire magic related to the Gardens seemed to have vanished.

Ugh… I went through this once before already, but… it doesn’t get any better. At least I still have my own life force so I can actually survive this…” Without her direct connection to Eden, she lost many of the perks that she normally had. But at the same time, she really didn’t have to worry about her two magics mixing at all now.

Until she gained complete control over the powers of a dragon, she was effectively banished from the Gardens of Eden. A feat possibly to accomplish only thanks to the first spirit Yuki and many others working together to actually sever to connection. Naturally, it was not permanent, completely cutting the connection was probably not even really possible.

Post by Akeya 15th September 2019, 2:27 pm

Akeya nearly snorted at Leila's response. She understood that she came across as cold and apathetic (and that wasn't even entirely wrong), but she didn't think the goddess would be this surprised at her taking action when her friend and partner did something which looked a lot like an attempt at suicide. "One of the reasons why I find cooperating with you easier than with many others is precisely because you don't often do something which might require my intervention." That and she did try to stop Leila back at the summer festivities, but she figured she wouldn't bring that one up right now. "But that doesn't mean that if things look alarming I won't react at all."

A minor sigh escaped her lips as Leila continued to argue that she hadn't said anything about the Garden of Eden being above sin. While it could just have been a case of miscommunication the silver-haired mage's phrasing had sounded strongly of the humans having corrupted the realm by bringing sin into it. "If Eden is protected against corruption from its own inhabitants it's a different manner, but you didn't mention that at first. As for special..." Akeya purposefully fell silent for several seconds, then gave a mild smirk. "Yes. Yes you definitely are."

Not bothering to elaborate on that she instead focused on the more important thing, namely figuring out the solution to Leila's problem. She nodded when the other mage stated that her sensory abilities were already more than enough for her to not have to worry about being able to detect the different types of magic. While it was her suggestion to train Leila's perception it wasn't strange that her friend would reject it on grounds of it being unnecessary. Creatures of their calibre could generally be expected to be good at sensing all types of magic accurately.

"That leaves cutting yourself off then. If you've got a method for doing that yourself it'd probably be safer than letting me take care of it with runes, since you know yourself and the Garden of Eden better." When it came to matters like these tiny errors could be fatal.

Taking a couple of steps back as well to ensure that however much space Leila needed it would be enough Akeya watched carefully as the goddess began to channel a large amount of mana. She could see the flows converging to form a complex portal in the air. The patterns were not something she was familiar with, it being magic which technically was from another world. Which left her wondering how development worked in Eden compared to Earthland. Did things develop in parallel?

She had to admit she was surprised to hear Leila summon a frost dragon for this task, especially one which looked rather tiny. She could sense the power this draconic woman held, but even so... why did she choose to look so tiny? Maybe she just found it convenient to get around relatively unnoticed and move through smaller gaps.

While Leila was dissuading the frost dragoness from the idea that there was a fight going on Akeya studied her with her usual intense gaze, rather curious about this dragon who originated from the realm of Eden. She didn't appear to be that much different from your typical Earthland dragon, at least the stronger specimens. A fight with this one... would be interesting to say the least. Dragon against dragon always resulted in something to behold, if only to see one of those behemoths to fall at the hands of another.

"I'll keep an eye on her. As long as nothing strange happens she'll be fine." Akeya couldn't pretend to be prepared for every single possibility, but she was pretty sure that she could at the very least guarantee that Leila would be safe as long as they weren't suddenly attacked by a horde of angry angels or something. Given that she was facing a fellow dragon for once she decided to show some respect with an inclining of her head and folding her wings onto her back.

With Yuki gone Akeya folded her arms and looked at Leila, waiting with a raised eyebrow for some sign that things had changed. When it finally happened the dragoness approached while lifting one claw. Leila would find herself being steadied and pulled back upright.

Akeya wondered whether the mortals really were aware of just how convenient dark magic was, given that there were shadows almost everywhere. She could even use the shadows on someone's body to either hinder or support them.

"My power isn't linked to anything external, but I can imagine that this isn't exactly comfortable." Seeing the magic of Eden disappear helped reaffirm that as of now Leila effectively had no magic inside of her other than that of the rose dragon... and whatever helped make her physical form. The assassin wasn't entirely sure what rules Leila's body followed, but she doubted it was the same as that of mortals.

"We don't have to hurry, so let's take it easy. For now just spend some time adapting to being disconnected from Eden, after that you can move onto making the dragon's magic your own." Akeya hadn't been planning to spend a long time here, but she didn't exactly have anything that was in a hurry to be taken care of either. And besides, she could travel very quickly if she was needed for something elsewhere.

Of course she had motivations beyond just helping Leila master her new magic. It appeared that her friend wasn't aware that Akeya could be quite caring and attentive. While it was true that she was apathetic towards most people that didn't mean she was incapable of it. A part of her also wanted to use this opportunity to help show that she was not made out of ice. If asked she'd have said that it was because she was aware that emotions were actually important for a sentient and inquisitive creature. But on some level the truth was also that she just didn't want Leila to think of her as completely emotionally stunted.

    Leila Vergious  ❃  Y-rank  ❃  Silver Wolf
Being kept from just falling over and splattering her physical form all over the cold stones beneath, Leila slowly closed her eyes and tried to make the world around her stop spinning. Thank goodness that there was actual magic still left in her because if she were to suffer the effects of complete magic drain on top of this, she would be out for quite some time.

It took a bit, but she finally managed to stabilize herself. Without the magic of Eden in her, it honestly felt like she was missing something. Almost like if a limb or two weren’t there. A hard to describe feeling of loss, but a powerful one as well. Soon she was able to walk around without Akeya’s help.

Thanks. As uncomfortable as this is, I at least have something this time around, unlike back then…” An incident in a different world that left her with few memories and unable to use magic. Thankfully she had Samira Nassar with her to help resolve the problem, but the dragoness saw the situation with her own eyes as well.

It was their first time working together, even. Wanting Leila’s help despite being told that she had no means of controlling magic… and yet, they still somehow managed. It was quite something, that job. Not exactly anything difficult, but a valuable experience in the end. Would Akeya still remember it among all the other important things she did?

Not that it mattered much. Taking in a deep breath, the girl made some distance between herself and the dragoness just so that she could properly stretch herself and try to regain her vigor. Energy was needed if she wanted to practice magic as powerful as the one of a Rose dragon. Alas, the same golden light as before quickly started gathering behind her.

This one came without any chant or even usage of magic on Leila’s part. And a second later, she felt an impact against her back. “Yahooo!” A woman flew out of the celestial gateway and effectively tackled her summoner into a hug from behind, wrapping her arms around the silver-haired maiden’s chest gently. And it was no ordinary arrival either.

Her magical energy filled the air pretty quickly. And while it did not reach the levels of Leila at full strength, they might have very well climbed even higher than Akeya’s own supply. As her black and white hair waved in the wind, she turned around to stare the other woman down a bit. Her look was stern for a moment, but then quickly softened.

Oho? Is that your teammate, dear? Don’t believe we had the pleasure yet.” While poor Leila was recovering from the sudden shock, trying to calm her heart down, the spirit would end her loving embrace and properly turn around to face the dragoness, performing a small, yet effective bow of greeting and respect.

You gaze upon one of the great twelve Zodiacs. I am Libra, the spirit of balance. The Gate of Heavenly Scales~” She introduced herself just as grandiosely as she looked. Though in this case, it was very much earned. As a Zodiac, she represented the very idea of balance and judgment. Being a living embodiment of these, there was no wonder she appeared powerful.

Even the atmosphere changed somewhat with her presence, becoming more neutral and balanced. “I’ve been told what is going on. Just in case the dragon’s power goes out of control, I’ll remain here to watch over my darling summoner. You needn’t pay me much mind if you do not wish to.

Sending Akeya a cheeky wink, she let Leila who finally got back up again to take center stage once more. “Right… I suppose your help can’t hurt if you keep your own gate open. And actually, there is something that… err… it’s a bit hard to explain…” When her senses stabilized again those few moments back, it was as if something awakened in her.

Everything was so much more clear. Her power was always connected to nature so she felt as if she was truly a part of it. But right now, it was slightly different. She still felt the powerful connection to all-natural things around them, but a strange sense of clarity followed. In fact, Leila was even seeing some strange things with her own eyes.

She didn’t exactly want to mention that, as she would probably seem slightly insane. Or suffering from some undesirable side-effects due to being cut off from Eden. However, something deep inside her was telling her that this was no undesirable. Closing her eyes and taking deep breaths, she positioned herself right in front of Akeya.

Opening her eyes again, she seemed to be full of confidence. She had to be, given the fact that she was about to make one of the strangest requests in her life. And she was making it to a person who was especially easy to refuse such requests as well. “Please… try to punch me! Doesn’t have to be strong or anything, but do try!

Understandably this caught even Libra off-guard, the spirit quickly moving up behind her master and putting her hand on Leila’s shoulder. “H..hey, are you actually suffering from arcane fever or something? Such a ridiculous request-” But Leila merely shook her head and stood her ground, even if Akeya were to try and refuse as well.

I know exactly what I’m doing… there is something I need to confirm, so please just get it over with. You both know how sturdy I am, one punch is not gonna do anything to me!” The thing was, Leila wasn’t planning on actually getting hit. What awakened inside of her was the ability of foresight.

Power of an ancient golden dragon, presumably passed down onto the other dragons and eventually leading all the way to the one who’s power was now inside of the girl. Though it was still somewhat unclear, she was able to see slightly into the future. So if Akeya were to try and throw a punch, she would be able to easily avoid it, even without the use of her magic.

[Job] Dragonthorn (Akeya/Leila Vergious) Empty Re: [Job] Dragonthorn (Akeya/Leila Vergious)

Post by Akeya 16th September 2019, 9:54 am

Akeya used the shadows on Leila's body to help keep her upright until it looked like the goddess was no longer in danger of falling down, after which she drew them towards herself and swallowed them for some additional energy. While she hadn't expended any amount of energy worth noting she still wasn't going to pass on a free meal when available.

Studying Leila she had to admit it felt... strange, seeing her friend walk about without that magic presence that was almost permanently there. For creatures like Leila and herself magic was just as much a part of their being as any physical limb, and with her sensitivity to magic Leila's sudden shift was quite noticeable. "Back then?" She cocked her head to the side, trying to remember if that was before they met or not. Something sparked in her head as she blinked. "Ah, you mean the state you were in when we were taking care of those poachers? I didn't link that occasion to this one because I'd assumed you hadn't inflicted that state voluntarily upon yourself." It was also quite a while ago at this point. The first time they'd even met, in fact. It was almost enough to make a person nostalgic.

Seeing the magic form for another portal her eyes quickly went sharp and she brought both her claws up while lowering her stance, but the figure that appeared from the portal didn't appear to be hostile... although she certainly didn't waste any time getting physical with Leila. Akeya watched for a couple more seconds before relaxing. As powerful as this entity appeared to be there didn't seem to be any reason to be on guard for now, so instead the assassin walked closer until she could look at the new arrival from up close.

"I'm certain we haven't met before." The dragoness stated this while studying the two-haired woman with curiosity and faint amusement at the predicament of her friend. She answered the bow with a nod, although her eyes lit up when Libra introduced herself. "Balance, you say?" That was a concept which had a great deal of importance to Akeya, herself constantly being busy trying to balance dark and light within one body. She had no personal experience with celestial spirits, zodiac or no, but if Libra was the spirit of balance she could maybe be of use to the dragoness as well...

"I'm Akeya Kuusai, the Dragon of Twilight." That title wasn't necessarily official, but it was the best description she had for what exactly she was. And she assumed that spirits who attached themselves to particular concepts would also be more comfortable dealing with clearly defined outsiders.

"I would have appreciated it if Yuki had told us who exactly she was going to call, but now that you're here... You'll be useful I suspect. And maybe not just for Leila." Having rested her claws after she decided Libra didn't require a hostile response she now lifted one once more, forming an orb of light and an orb of dark and having them circle above the palm of her scaled hand. "I have a personal interest in the concept of balance you see." Of course there was no guarantee that Libra would be willing to help her out as well, as friendly as she appeared to be.

She hadn't met any celestial spirits herself before now (at least that she was aware of), which was rather surprising given that she'd done a great many things throughout her life. However she'd read about them and heard accounts from those who'd met them. They were relatively mysterious even though celestial summoning magic was one of the most famous of magic types, but they were generally described as powerful and unlikely to turn against the one who summoned them. While they clearly had sentience and their own will they appeared to always honour the contract of being summoned (although there was a story about a summoner who abused their celestial spirits to the point that they refused to honour the contract any longer), and they didn't seem to have many intentions when summoned other than executing the will of their summoner.

If all of that was true it meant Libra was significantly safer to have around than most, given that she was very unlikely to try to harm either Leila or herself (as long as she wasn't deemed a threat to Leila) and her powers could help prevent Leila's wild magic from growing out of control.

As she was thinking about this her thoughts were rudely interrupted when something new seemed to happen to Leila. Returning her focus back to her friend for the first time since Libra's appearance the dragoness's eyes narrowed. It was difficult to say what exactly had happened... it had been very subtle. However it was clear that something had caused Leila to pause and realign her thoughts, because her next request was for Akeya to hit her. Even Akeya had to blink and stare at that in open surprise and confusion. "That's... a rather odd request." As the celestial spirit tried to argue with Leila Akeya considered the request. Apparently whatever it was that Leila wanted to test it wasn't toughness, otherwise she would have asked for Akeya's best punch. But what else was there...

"Hmmm... all right." She did trust Leila enough to think that the goddess wasn't doing anything stupid here. Placing one foot further back the dragoness lowered her centre of mass, then lashed out with a quick jab towards Leila's shoulder. It was one of the better places to aim for if you weren't trying to inflict harm, since even if it wouldn't deal structural damage a solid hit could still knock someone off of their feet.

Seeing Leila dodge it smoothily Akeya raised an eyebrow. She wasn't really surprirsed that the goddess could evade: she might be fast but she wasn't so fast that someone of Leila's calibre wouldn't be able to keep up, and the maiden was entirely prepared for the attack so she'd have all the time in the world to dodge. The puzzling part was more that Leila would first ask for Akeya to try and strike to her and then dodge. It smelled like there was something deeper going on.

"Can you explain what this is about? You seem to have discovered something, but I'm pretty sure you could dodge that punch before now as well."

    Leila Vergious  ❃  Y-rank  ❃  Silver Wolf
It definitely wasn’t voluntary, but still felt quite similar back then to how it feels now. Just… even more defenseless when I didn’t have any other magic to rely on.” Recounting the events from those days, she was surprised how well she even managed to get through those times.

It felt so long ago, too… this journey of hers, a road toward becoming an exemplary mage, it has been a long one. Was she finally there? No, not quite yet. The years piled on and she gathered a lot of experience, be came strong. But until she would gain control of the dragon’s power, she could not say that she truly achieved what she always wanted to.

While the girl let out a sigh, Libra and Akeya shared their little conversation. “Twilight, hm? Yes, you seem to be much more courteous with me than with most people, as far as I can tell through my limited view of Leila’s life. A pleasure of a meeting.” The spirit had an interesting accent, a subtle one.

But one that one could often find among nobility from the more eastern lands such as Midi. Even Libra’s outfit was inspired by that place. “There was no need for a warning. I am the only spirit in Leila’s possession that is not part of the Gardens. Not any others that could come and aid here right now.

Her gaze also intently fixated on the two orbs that Akeya created, a sly smile growing across the spirit’s face. “You also needn’t talk about me as a tool, as difficult as that might be. We spirits are often perfectly willing to help if you just ask.” Waving her hand gently in the air, the two orbs suddenly collided and perfectly combined.

The result was a cheeky construct of magic that resembled the symbol of Yin & Yang, perfectly stable as if the two counterparts were always meant to be part of one bigger piece. It was a bit of a tease as to what the living representation of balance could actually do, even if her the abilities she normally used in fights were quite different.

But she did not entertain much more for the dragoness, given Leila’s intrusion into the conversation, demanding to be punched in the face. Thankfully nothing of the sort actually happened and Akeya even aimed at a different place, one where her companion would not be too injured. Though a dislocated shoulder was also a bit of a painful experience.

However, she managed to dodge the blow perfectly. A fact that her companion took as something obvious, but Leila’s reaction was one of her staring at her own hands for a good few seconds before blinking several times and then rubbing her eyes for a while. Once she confirmed that it was all as real as it felt, she looked back at Akeya.

I… I somehow saw your claw coming before you actually moved. Almost like an afterimage, but reverse. I saw how and where you would throw the punch and then you actually did it afterward.” It was a bit hard to explain, as it all showed as echoing ghosts from her point of view. But at the same time, there was a much bigger image.

Like a mirror that reflected the world of the future, she could almost see it. But for now, it remained shattered and showing only small bits. “A prophetic power? That’s a new one… you’re even cooler now~” Completely changing her attitude around her summoner, Libra once again jumped at Leila and hugged her from behind.

But if you’re only able to use it now, then that means it really did come from the dragon’s magic. Since when are Rose dragons prophetic? We can’t call Yuki now, either…” As if completely synchronized, the two girls would turn their eyes toward Akeya to see if the only other dragoness available knew anything.

Though bare knowledge of some legends from distant past was hardly something that would help Leila achieve her goal here. She was able to see slightly into the future for now, but that did not help with having full control over the rest of the dragon’s magic. Though it might have been a good start of those two were indeed connected.

All that put aside for a moment… I think the wyverns mostly flew out to hunt. Perfect opportunity for some training. I don’t exactly need a sparring partner or anything, so… feel free to do anything?” She kinda planned to do this whole thing completely alone to begin with. So she was rather unsure what to do with the presence of Libra and Akeya.

They were both powerful, so it was unlikely that they would get hurt too badly by a stray rose-based spell. But with Leila’s primary magic gone, it also meant that their attacks would very likely leave more than just a few bruises on the silver-haired maiden’s body. Not that she would angrily oppose the dragoness if she chose to try and help her somehow.

As far as the whole training ordeal went, Leila decided it was best to start with simpler forms of spells. Trying to use them over and over again until she was able to create them in a less volatile state and have some form of actual control over them. From there, she moved to bigger spells as well. Though the entire process of training enough to gain control over the magic would take at least a couple of days.

And that was if she were to really keep at it. So whether the busy shadow assassin was willing to stick around for all of it was entirely up to her. Libra hardly had anything else going on even in her own realm, so it was no different to her if she were to remain by Leila’s side. And since she opened up her own gate, she was not eating up any magical energy from her master, either.

[Job] Dragonthorn (Akeya/Leila Vergious) Empty Re: [Job] Dragonthorn (Akeya/Leila Vergious)

Post by Akeya 17th September 2019, 3:55 am

Akeya had to admit she was somewhat curious about what had happened to Leila back then. If the other woman had explained the exact details of her condition the dragoness didn't remember it. Still, now wasn't necessarily the best time to get into that: Leila seemed more focused on dealing with the present and Akeya herself had a lot of interest for the presence of Libra.

She raised an eyebrow at Libra's comment. "So you observe this world through Leila?" It made sense, but it made her wonder just how interested the celestial spirits were in the ongoings of this realm. "If you're Libra then you've got abilities that are of personal interest to me, so it's only natural that I treat you with greater importance than most mortals." While she tried not to underestimate the other creatures of this realm as there could be some truly dangerous specimen it was hard to not be at least a little bit dismissive of humans and dwarves and the like. The vast majority of them were, even from a gentle perspective, weak and reliant on the strong ones to keep them safe.

"I'm not a fan of being on the receiving end of a surprise." She stated rather dryly when Libra waved away the complaint that Akeya would have preferred a warning. While it was good to know which spirit it was that could still visit Leila during this training being jumped out of nowhere had a habit of triggering the violent reflex. "That aside, I wasn't aware that Leila was dabbling in summoning magic outside of her own realm. And how did she even get her hands on your key?" One of the things pretty much everyone knew about celestial spirits was that zodiac keys were one of a kind. If you possessed one that meant that nobody else did, and that most likely you'd been insanely lucky.

The admonishment regarding her manner of speech resulted in the dragoness shrugging. She didn't feel the need to apologize for her behaviour, although given that Libra actually had something she wanted she could try to be a bit less blunt if that would make the spirit more likely to comply in return. More important was how suddenly the essence orbs she'd formed were forcibly pulled together despite Akeya not having made this decision. Her gaze shot from Libra towards the resulting symbol that was now slowly spinning above her claw, her eyes first wide and then narrow with a heavy frown indicating that she wasn't happy about something. Closing her claw she dismissed the symbol as it was time for Leila to try out her new ability.

The explanation Leila gave why she found it so important that she could dodge Akeya's strike had the dragoness blinking, followed by her curling a finger under her lip while supporting that elbow with her other hand. "Foresight? Why would being disconnected from Eden result in you developing foresight?" She could make up some suggestions but all of it came down to speculation with little data to back it up. While Libra was a lot more enthusiastic the dragoness was left wondering.

The suggestion that it was a result of the rose dragon's influence had Akeya trying to recall everything she knew about dragons. Of course foresight wasn't unheard of, but... "There's not a lot known about rose dragons, given the rarity of the element, but any legends about dragons with precognition either had it as a side effect from the usage of time magic or some kind of blessing... Or a kind of supernatural insight." Foresight was something which seemed to pop up in all types of creatures. A strange power definitely. "Given how human seers often pass on their gift to their descendants it's not impossible that you've inherited this from the rose dragon, although that one in turn would have had to inherit it from someone else." She had a hard time believing that a rose dragon would awaken short-term foresight. There was nothing connecting roses or plants to seeing the future.

"Well, regardless of what made it awaken, it's a useful talent, especially if you can rely on the short term variant." A part of her was still wondering why it would only awaken after Leila's natural magic was sealed away, but she nodded in agreement as the goddess observed that now was a good opportunity to begin training. Questions could come later: mysterious as the ability of foresight was it was rarely directly harmful. The worst it could give you was headaches and a constant sense of dread, and that could be handled down the line as well.

"You might not need a sparring partner, but it's still useful to have someone around who's familiar with the magic. Dragon magic is particularly suitable for enhancing your physical techniques so instead of practising releasing bursts you might find it easier to start out with tricks such as claw attacks." As demonstration she walked over to the nearest rock, then raised her hand. Darkness surged forth to form a large claw around her scaled limb, which she then used to swiftly swipe the boulder, leaving four deep diagonal gashes in it. Turning back towards the other two women she pointed at Libra.

"That said it's true that most of Leila's training can be done alone, so if you don't have any objections to it you could help me improve my control over my two opposite elements." She wasn't even sure whether a celestial spirit could teach a dragon such a thing as balance, but she saw a golden opportunity to improve her control over both her elements. When it came to controlling them one at a time she was already at quite a high level, but simultaneous use still tended to end up being a display of brute force rather than skill and finesse. For a predator being able to wreak destruction was important but not as much as being in control of the situation through utility.
