Post by Percy 28th September 2019, 4:19 am

Perseus Dagger was no idiot, but right now he was starting to wonder about himself. Deep within the maze on the outskirts of Magnolia and near the grand autumn equinox festival, the poor young man had been wandering around...for hours. Countless people had come and gone, laughing and having a good time. He could tell because he'd run into everyone that came in at least twice, then suddenly they were gone and new people were here! If he tried to follow them, he swore as soon as they turned a corner out of his sight the rows of corn shifted and they were gone! His hand-held GPS was no help, nor was his iLac. All the signals were scrambled. In fact, when he'd used both a small drone with a sophisticated sonar-type mapping system, it'd acted as if its electrical pulses were scrambled. So essentially, unless all his tech had had simultaneous catastrophic failures, the magic on this maze was preventing the efforts of the non-magical navigating their ways out.

His mood soured like it always did when he considered the benefits of people with magic. No doubt, somehow all these maze-challengers could sense magic. Even if he could conjure no physical manifestation of magic, just to have that extra sensory capability would be invaluable. Mismatched hues narrowed and he internally chided himself. No, he couldn't blame every difficult scenario on being magicless or claim that people who had it were simply better. He'd just have to invent something that would allow him to sense what they did. Just a bit of research and elbow grease. Until he found a way to get his own magical power, he'd just replicate everything with technology.

But all of that was neither here nor there. Magic or no, his feet were tired and his nerves were frayed. Why couldn't he just find his way out? The frustration was building. He'd broken down and called for help, admitting failure and wanting to be escorted out, but no one came. That had been two hours ago. Would he be left in here all night? The defeat by something as lame as an autumn festival maze was a pretty huge dent in his already fragile ego, leading to a hot, frustrated tear forming in his right eye. The other eye, the one with all the scarring around it, hadn't regained its ability to produce tears yet, if it ever would. "Ugh!" he growled, smacking at the joke mirror he'd just run into at a dead end. It was meant to make him laugh, distorting his image to that of a squatty dwarf, but all it did was taunt him. What was he gonna do? All he'd wanted to do was come here and blow off some steam, maybe make a new friend. But instead, he'd been thrown into cornfield purgatory where he couldn't even burn his way out of the obnoxious stalks!

Post by Nessa Cordelia Lux 29th September 2019, 3:53 am

Nessa had arrived at the quite early, way earlier than she had told Markus she would be there. This wasn't especially out of character for the Starlight Maiden, she was always keen to attend fun events such as these, to get involved and enjoy herself in the festivities. But today was different, her reasoning for coming early much more sinister than one might expect. The woman had been sent a message, a message from someone she never expected to hear from. It was crazy to think that a mage that had grown as strong as herself would be frightened of such a petty thing. But it was him, she was sure of it. And despite herself, just the thought of him set her on edge, powerful mage or not, she was still a victim to her memories and the scars they'd left.

Rex had broken her, and he was back to do it again.

It was, for this reason, she didn't want to stay at home, he had been there, gotten in somehow. Left a bloody message for her on the bed, a message that had terrified her. When she'd seen the furry grey mess on her bed, her mind instantly thought it was Sebastian. She had reeled into a panic, only to realize that it wasn't him, but a stuffed look-alike, covered in blood. How he had gotten in she didn't know, but she did know one thing. She knew her home wasn't safe anymore, and that Rex was watching her. Paying close attention, enough to know that she had a feline companion. She hadn't told her father yet, but she was planning to move out, deciding that if Rex was after her, it would be better to draw his attention to another location. She fully planned to keep the house under her protection once she moved, but she hoped if she was living somewhere else at least Rex might leave her family out of this. Whatever this was.

There was still quite some time before Markus was supposed to be meeting her, and wandering around the festival aimlessly wasn't helping take her mind off of things. She had idly perused the stalls, she hadn't tried the food yet, for lack of appetite. Although knowing Markus he was probably going to make sure she ate when he got there, she had certainly upset him when she had let herself fall into that state again. She hadn't meant to, it was just that Rex had brought up so much, along with all the other stressful things in her life; Markus leaving Fairy Tail, Mythal and Aven disappearing. It has just been too much for the woman to deal with. Losing sleep and her appetite to the point of making herself weak had been foolish, she knew that now. Fortunately, she had put most of the weight back on, although the sleep was still alluding her often. She actually found herself taking naps in her office a lot more lately, just to catch up a little. She felt bad about slacking off her work a little, but if Mura or Arcadia noticed, they certainly didn't say anything.

As she walked through the festival, her violet eyes fell on one of the activities they were hosting. It was a maze, a small smile fell on her lips as she remembered the trip she took to Avens family manor. The maze that was set up outside of the house, courtesy of his cautious family. Thanks to her magic she had gotten through it easily enough, and had quite a pleasant evening, despite a few altercations. She missed those memories, when she was much more carefree, despite having make a return at her birthday party, Avens's presence in her life seemed sparse these days. Maybe he didn't consider her company worth keeping anymore, either that or he was just too busy. Either way, it still stung a little, he was one of her best friends. And although Arcadia was still around, she was busy with Ace stuff a lot of the time. Even with Markus, the woman was kind of lonely, friendship was just something she craved so much.

The woman decided that wandering through the maze seemed like a good way to kill some time until Markus arrived. She approached it, making her way inside. She wandered the corn maze, enjoying the quiet. It was kind of peaceful, the noise of the festival seemed slightly drowned out in here, meaning she could hear what was around her, sense it better. It was clearer, the magical signatures of those wandering around the mages were easier to pick up one. Although it didn't make her feel any less alone. She moved deep into the maze, for a while not really focused on trying to get out. Just exploring it, when she wanted to get out, she had an idea of what to do. But for now she would just do something different, besides Rex would struggle to find her in here right? She could lose him in the twists and turns on the maze... or at least she hoped. She stopped, feeling a sudden sense of dread as the thought dawned on her. What if he was here? What if he saw her go into the maze? She turned sharply, starting to panic, she listened out. It was then she heard footsteps, moving somewhere near her. The mage lost it, setting into a run, she began to hurry through the maze. Running as fast she could, she turned a corner, only to see a figure standing in the midst of a dead end. Unable to help herself, she shrieked loudly, spinning to run away, only to catch her foot on her ankle and end up falling to the ground with a rather ungraceful thud. She pushed herself up, glancing back to look at the figure, she summoned a ball of starlight so she could see him better. And what she saw him, she realized; this wasn't Rex.

"Oh gosh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to shriek at you... I just mistook you for  someone else." She apologised hastily, the flush of embarrassment falling over her face.

[EVENT] Cursed Corn Empty Re: [EVENT] Cursed Corn

Post by Percy 29th September 2019, 10:20 pm

A startled Percy tearfully whirled as a girl behind him screamed, nearly giving him heart failure. He blinked at the pale-haired maiden that turned into the same dead end as him a few times, perhaps seeming a bit wild. Too busy panicking, comisserating and lamenting the failure of his technologies, and trying not to let the tear excape his eye, the two-toned boy hadn't heard the footsteps coming up on him until she was there, screaming and falling. Even though her state of distress was much more warranted and intense, the distraught Dagger only really noticed that he could relate to her terror.

At first, he thought she might be magicless like him and had been trapped in this maze for hours, unable to sense others or the way out as well. While that was mildly comforting, it would not help either of them find their way out, which was his ultimate goal. However, a small sliver of hope dawned when she brought out the magical flashlight to shine in his face. He should have known she was a mage. Everyone was. While he could've been quite salty about it and resent all mages for easily having the one thing he didn't, Percy was the sort that wouldn't feel that way. It wasn't their fault they had magic...and even though he knew deep down it wasn't his fault that he didn't, he still blamed himself. Funny how things like that could be irrational but not any less painful, especially with how his family could be about being strong and having it all together. Anyway, her proving to be a mage was nothing but advantagous to him at this current moment.

She apologized to him as she righted herself, but his deeply ingrained manners soon took a backseat. Within a blink he was upon her, a bit jumbled in his desperation. "M-Ma'am! Are you okay?" he asked the girl who had tripped over her own feet and flomped ungracefully to the corn-husked ground, at least getting the bare minimum of politeness out before his own situation came bubbling to the surface. He was gonna beg. Grabbing up her hands into his own, he held them together in between them, intense eyes staring into hers. "Please, miss, can you help me get out of this place? I've been in here for several hours and can't find my way out!" pleaded the young man, dropping her hands as quickly as he'd grabbed them. Normally such boldness would have him blushing like mad, but he was too frazzled to realize what he was even doing. Rustling through his pocket, he brought out his wallet and opened it, revealing a fat stack of jewel. "I'll pay you. You can even have my whole wallet if you want. I just want out of here!"

After a few beats, Percy seemed to regain control of himself. Now his face flushed a bit red and he stepped away from her, unsure where to place his eyes. He couldn't very well look at her after he'd just been so crazy and direct with her, a complete stranger and obviously upset girl for reasons outside of this silly festival maze. The wallet stayed out, since he was still more than willing to pay his way out of this hell hole, but his eyes fixed on a low corn cob on the left that was still on the stalk. He tensed up all over, seeming about as anxious as possible, but also determined to get her help. "Sorry," he said quietly, tone truly apologetic, "I really do hope you're okay. Being stuck in here has gotten to me."

[EVENT] Cursed Corn Empty Re: [EVENT] Cursed Corn

Post by Nessa Cordelia Lux 30th September 2019, 2:55 am

Once Nessa realized that her 'dangerous stalker', was actually just a harmless civilian. She flushed with embarrassment, hastily apologized as she got up. Brushing downing her Kimono, she would have to find a bathroom after this and make sure she hadn't ruined her outfit. She had dressed up for Markus after, she didn't want him to arrive with her looking a state. "Yes, I'm quite alright thank you, just a little started," She answered with a smile, as she got a better look at him. It was funny he would call her 'Ma'am' considered that he couldn't have been much younger than herself. But still she would pay it no mind, she wasn't the type to get flustered over titles for older women, she was only twenty after all. She had no reason to concern herself over the vanity of youth.

Her violet eyes widened as he suddenly grabbed her hands, clutching them desperately. She blinked in surprise as he would plead for her help, although her eyes quickly softened as she realized what it was he was asking. "Oh you poor thing! Of course, of course, I'll help you. But please, put your money away. I don't need payment, in fact, I'll be happy with just a name. I'm Nessa by the way," She said warmly, as he stepped away, she would reach within for the source of her magic. Summoning her starlight guide to her, the little ball of light was small, bouncy, almost like a miniature star.

She would order the spell to guide them, before looking back at the boy with the dual-colored hair. She nodded, understand just how upset he was. She maneuvered herself, to his side linking her arms with him. Not in a weird way, but like one friend might guide another, wanting him to feel reassured that he wouldn't lose her in the maze. "Come on, let's get out of here." She remarked, before following after the bobbing star. Strangely enough, she was grateful to have run into the guy, other than the momentary episode of terror. It was a relief to have some company, and helping him out of the maze was a nice distraction. "So did you come to the festival alone or are you waiting for somebody?" She would ask casually, attempting to create some conversation to kill time. Regardless of whether or not he would ask, she would explain her own reasoning for coming. "I came here to meet my boyfriend, although I got here a little early so I figured I'd wander around the maze to use up some time, good thing I did huh?" She remarked playfully with a giggle.

It wasn't much long after this that they would reach the exit, Nessa unhooked her arm from him and turned to him. "Well, it was nice to meet you. I hope you enjoy the festival!" She told him perkily, as she turned she would be handed her trophies and with a wave goodbye to Percy, she would wander off into the festival in search of Markus.

[EVENT] Cursed Corn Empty Re: [EVENT] Cursed Corn

Post by Percy 30th September 2019, 4:42 am

Percy was so thrilled that this young woman agreed to be so kind and help him. Even though he wasn't one for pity, in this case, he was just frustrated enough to take it. Putting his wallet away, he heaved a huge sigh of relieve and smiled shyly at her, feeling the full force of his shame from his earlier behavior. Maze-induced temporary insanity had gripped him, causing him to make quite the fool of himself.

So her name was Nessa. That was a nice name. He'd quickly give in to her request, offering his name in return. "I'm Perseus, but feel free to call me Percy. Everyone does," the inventor spoke quietly, resuming his normally reserved nature.

His reservation intensified as he realized who she was. He was an avid reader of Sorcerer's Magazine. He had a hobby of keeping up with famous mages, wanting to know all about them and their magic. Sometimes it was to try and copy elements of their spells with his own technology, sometimes it was just to wistfully brood over how cool and powerful they are. Sometimes a little jealousy added fuel to his creative juices, something every creative mind needs. One such mage within the pages was a certain God of Ishgar, an ace of Fairy Tail. She used some sort of starlight magic, which was painfully obvious by both the star that had beamed into his face earlier and the adorable little thing that was leading them through the maze right now. Percy swallowed hard, a bit star-struck. There was an extremely powerful mage hooking arms with him. What do you do in this situation? Play it cool, Percy.

After the initial shock, he did ease up a bit, taking a keen interest in the star she summoned. His eyes hardly left it, as if staring at it would unpack all its magical secrets into his brain. He wanted to barrage her with questions, but now that he was properly intimidated by her, he simply couldn't. Instead, he'd just respond to her chit-chat and be gracious she was nice enough to save him from this maze, though now that incident was made even more colossally humiliating. It was possible his face would never return to its normal color now. "I came alone," he answered, ducking his head a bit ruefully, "I wanted to blow off some steam after working so hard, but instead wound myself up," he laughed awkwardly at his own expense, though more truthfully, he just didn't have anyone to go with. He hadn't seen his older sister in ages, his older brother was always busy these days, and his younger brother had been sent off. His family always had so many irons in the fire, sometimes he wondered if they knew how to be...well, normal.

When she mentioned why she was in the maze alone, he flushed right up again. "Oh, yes!" he exclaimed, "I'm glad you came along, but I hope I don't make you late for your date," worried the young man, sincerely hoping he hadn't ruined her day as well as his own. That'd be some way to pay her back, ruin her festival time with her lover. He worried for nothing, though, since her magic took them right out, so fast that he wondered how stupid he had to be to get stuck to begin with. Percy was a bit sorry to see her go, wishing they could have chatted more, but he understood. Nessa had done more than enough. She was a really sweet person, despite her position in the magical world. "It was nice to meet you, too," he smiled, waving bye to her and watching her rush off into the crowd.
