The outfit had been admittedly more lax and breathable than she had first thought it would have been. Starring at it for a while since she joined, hanging from hangers in her room as she simply glared at it. How was something like this supposed to be of any help? It offered no camouflage, no stealth from enemies she would stalk for jobs. It was a hindrance to her, but still she was compelled to follows the rules as she was always trained to do. A different society, much more diverse on personality, but she wanted to belong somewhere. If it meant adapting to new things, why shouldn’t she try it? It wasn’t a decision she came to lightly either. Her greeting hadn’t been exactly so warm and inviting and partially that was her fault. As much as Mianala could never admit it to others, she had learned that she was able to admit it to herself, but in some situations and cases, she got it in her head that she wasn’t the bad person in that case and that she was right. In this more recent case... well her uniform was a mental debate. Forsake it and just lie and say she forgot about it? Force of habit? No, Johann would see right through it. The man was down to earth and by far from stupid, so trying to get over on him was like stealing calling the police and telling them you’re robbing a bank, but then denying it when they arrest you. You already did the crime, so making obvious lies would get you nowhere.
Well, there was no stalling for time now. Her task was in need of completion and the final touches to her uniform had to be finished. Dressed into it fully, she began to button the outfit as needed, struggling slightly to going over her chest, but feeling it compressing them some was a little irksome. She grumbled, a bit more like her usual self and began to simply take in how it felt. Aside from prior notation, it had overall felt rather comfortable and much less restricting than she had first thought it would have. Now her final bout with her mental hatred of the outfits appearance; footwear. Never a fan of it honestly. She would if the occasion called for it, but most times her footing was much more reliant on her feet albeit suction cupped to the ground when she was in chase and firing arrows. Her eyes flared down at these boots that were seated with the uniform and just scoffed at them. She cared very little about them, but she wouldn’t simply get rid of them. There would be times where they would be likely to wear them because it didn’t involve having to chase down someone or simply perform the normal surveillance routes that Mia took often. The last of things to be done had just to grab her bow off of the wall and resting it on her bed while she took her long, light green hair and began to tie it into a ponytail to keep it from getting in the way of her job at hand.
Now, Mianala had never done such a thing before, but she was determined and since the group of tests were roughly in the same areas as one another, this made the most sense to go about jumping in and doing multiple jobs at once. The first one was a simple job. Simply catching an arsonist, no major problem in that. Someone causing a huge issue in running through a village and lighting buildings on fire almost on a very strict timeframe, but being unable to figure out where the next place was going to be was easy task. Needing outside help, they didn’t care what means came to it so long as they were stopped. The next job was little less dangerous in her opinion, but it was still something that she couldn’t let slide for someone else to take care of. At a nearby town, women have been vanishing at night, most never heard from again, but the need to ask for help came after a couple had turned up dead and the bodies shown to be tortured viciously before they were killed. But with not all of them turning up, they want to still know where the others went as well.
Choosing which to go to was hard. Both were critically equal cases of importance. The more she thought to it, the more it began to push her one way more than the other. Soon enough, Mianala found herself headed towards the city that the women had been going missing in. To her, the priority of both situations were bad, making both a bit of a lose lose, but there was something with the idea of still missing women that had Mia jumping to go there first. If these ideas were correct, she would have a lot more information to need to get and that in it of itself would bring her to moving on to doing more than simply stopping some sick serial killer, if that’s what it even was. Should she have brought someone with her? Most likely that was a yes. But Mianala was not one to rely on others in any way and if s job could be done on her own, she would do it. As childish as her mentality was, she didn’t want others to get hurt over any delicate situation.
The choice to trek to the locations was a harder option in her mind to pick from. In the end... it was better to travel to the furthest point and deal with the arsonist. As much as she so greatly wanted to stop the sole person, the greater risk was in the person whom could cause much more danger and casualties. With a rather agitated thought either way on the decision she would have to make, the elf just pushed forward for her first choice. It was the most rational and for the most part seemed to be the best idea in her mind on what she was to do with the whole multiple jobs. Hopefully this just wouldn’t end up biting her in the ass when it was all said and done. In the back of her mind, she assumed the worst, that no matter which she chose, someone would strike from the other location and it bothered her to no end. But, what are you to do when you have to choose? Who knows, maybe she’ll be lucky in her choice and she’ll get there in time. She would just have to believe she could.
Her time alone was more than she wanted, but less than expected. It gave her a bit of time to sit back and reflect on some things while she was able to focus on it. She spent several years closed off from people, keeping them away and creating a shell of her former self to mask her true feelings from what she truly was. In some ways, this was normal for someone who went through the type of betrayal she had, but... it couldn’t continue. What she did when she first joined haunted her. Normally Mianala would never fire. NEVER. But she let her fears drive her to praying that her former fiancé was there. Just to have hit him and ended his life. Her mind couldn’t bare that if she struck Amalie... but she couldn’t bare to see herself to be wrong either. That part was just her. Where that couldn’t go without time and motivation, her outlook of life had to. There was no way she could function as a member of a guild, much less a guild so favored to her bounty hunting style, to treat members, new joining ones, and anyone she would let close to be hurt over her inferiority of emotional control.
Mia arrived via a carriage that had picked her up not far from the guild hall and taken her to the first city. The cloudy skies billowing with potential for a pouring rain storm was growing quick. Maybe that was a good sign? What arsonist would consider trying to set a fire in rainy weather? Well... there’s one in every crowd, so maybe she’d just have to see. The calm breeze carrying the full sky of clouds was passing through, drifting them slightly by. It wasn’t for more than a couple of minutes that her attention had been turned away from in front of her that she had heard a voice. Clearing their throat rather than asking her anything or even introducing themselves caused her to be slightly annoyed, but the bounty hunter just looked down.. and then further down until she saw an older man, roughly have her height of 6 feet. The older man had a very oddly colored, but what stuck out was the handlebar mustache in a pure white color, the tiny little top hat sitting off to the side of his bald head and the Monocle he had on his left eye. “Welcome to Townsville, young lady!”
The green haired woman blinked at first before she raised a brow. ”What type of humans name their town that? It’s like something straight out of a kids book or television program...” She thought to herself, her size towering over her like the building in the distance would soon do to her. “W-Well I I guess you aren’t much of a talker then! Alrighty, I’ll just get right to it, how’s that sound?” He sounded much like he wasn’t going to give her a chance to say a word... and she was right. The moment Mia opened her mouth to speak, he began to speak, “I just couldn’t bare trying to do this on my own. Walways me oh my! I have seen this guy in action and he’s a scaaaaary guy! His hands light up in flames and he fires them out like beams and then everything goes up in flames! But he runs right after until the last time!” The gentleman had paused, catching his breath and giving the guild member a moment to process what she was being told before he picked right up where he left off. “Our normal police cornered him, right after and he ran until he was cornered... then he did that!” Pointing to the left of the woman, she turned to see a giant hole melted from the material the building was made from. “He turned, did that, then he left and before anyone could stop him, he had set the first several of the officers there on fire. They.. they died and I couldn’t take the responsibility of losing anyone else. So..” he paused, looking Mianala over and seeing only the bow on her back.
“What uh.. what sort of magic tricks can you do?” It wasn’t much of a hard question, but she looked down to herself, back to him, then shrugged. “I don’t use magic... not in the same sense as normal mages.” She spoke finally, having done so for the first time in hours. He jumped in surprise, shocked that a guild of mages would send someone without magic abilities to fend of someone like them. “What do you mean you have no magic!? You also seemed to forget your arrows, so I guess that makes you an incompetent archer t-“ He froze mid-sentence. His eyes locked to the green colored arrow of magical energy pointed at his face, his tiny arms raised up. “WWOOAH! O-Ok now miss, I’m sorry! P-Please put that away! I- i- Wait a minute... isn’t that an ancient elven bow?” The mayors question got her to lower it, the arrow dissipating before she looked at him a little puzzled. It wasn’t much longer before he jumped in surprise and what could be seen as joy. “Oh wait, you’re an elf!? Oh then I have something I must show to you! Now, now-“ Again, he paused, but this time he began to look around before he motioned for her to lean in... or down in this case. “There’s an ancient artifact I think he wants... every place he hit has been some place that a rich man has ever held priceless artifacts of some kind. But I’m my museum, I have something I think he may be looking for. Would you mind checking in on it? I’ll lead you there.” It.. seemed off to say so, especially since there was someone burning down his city, but anyone’s suspicions are better than what she had. “That’s fine. Please, lead the way.”
Scurrying little feet from the minutes sized mayor led the elf toward the museum. Humans were always odd creatures of collections and showcasing them, but there was a difference and respect when it came to the use of museums. Public showing of history was a cultural thing. Any culture that shared this was respected at the least. Maybe just to this elf specifically, but that’s why free thinking was a big home issue. At least that was outside of the job. The job to precedence over everything else no matter what. Parent dying? Well, back to the job. It turned some into cold, careless people, but others it still stung. Mia was one of those whom always stung from the bad choices she had to make, but it was all she knew. Did that make her a bad person? Not if she cared about and felt these wrong choices. Besides, as a technical foreigner of Fiore's lands, visiting a museum might give her a bit of insight on the country, or even smaller portions for the time being. It was a huge place and with such diversities, it might be worthwhile that after these missions she take time to go visit other museums.
The mayor and Mianala entered the museum, one of which had been slowly been in the process of an evacuation. "If my thoughts are correct, uh.. miss. Then getting everyone out is the safest bet. The museum won't be in affected by one less day." He stopped and looked the elf over before pointing towards a staircase. "Go up there and the artifact is on display. I'm gonna go get out of here and-" "No, go get your security to sweep the building. Make sure every civilian is out of here. I'm going to take the artifact to the rooftop. I won't let other pieces be ruined. Worst case, I put it back." His monocle covered eye looked up and then gave the woman a nod before his feet scurried off. This left Mia alone to do what she needed to do. Slowly, she made her way up the stairs with no sounds coming from her feet, moving silently through the stairwell until she paused at the sound of a voice speaking to itself. "Finally. Burning through this town was getting to be such a bore." The voice had spoken with a bit of a hearty tone to it. Peering from around the corner, she watched him remove the glass case from around what she had to assume was the artifact he was looking for; a golden handled hilt with a lightly pulsing scimitar blade. The curvature of the blade and design of the hilt meant it could be no other type of sword, but why was he after it? Grabbing her bow, she had jerked her body around and pulled back, creating one of her ethereal like arrows before firing it off at the hand that reached for the blade.
The elf pushed off of her back foot, dashing forward and snatching the sword from the stand as the arsonist of a mage had screamed out in pain from her shot. Reeling from the pain, Mia turned around, her grasp at the sword being almost natural to her. Her glaring eyes settled to see the culprit and the glare soon became a look of astonishment. What she was seeing was far beyond belief and she couldn't believe what she was seeing. Looking over his wound, the male hadn't taken notice, but she was far beyond knowing who he was and she wasn't about to let him get away with anything. "You damn bitch! When I-" He looked up and she was gone. The sound of her feet pattering on the steps going to the roof cot him to begin running after her. As he got to the steps, the door was forced open, but he had no sight on the person who shot at him. Running up the steps like a madman, the fire mage through his body into the ajar door and onto the roof. In that moment, the elven archer fired an arrow she'd begun to charge in wait towards her pursuer. With a quick swipe of a fire covered hand, the area in front of him ignited in flames and the arrow collided, creating a small explosion. "Not bad. Slipping by me after a cheap shot? But now you're in my are-" It was in the clearing of the smoke and fire that he finally realized whom it was he was up against. "Well well well. Mianala Qinwynn. And here we all thought you were dead. I guess dragging you back with the artifact here and the one you stole would give me a nice raise in my tiers." A coy grin formed on the other elves face, cracking his knuckles on the other hand, though not his dominant hand.
At first, Mia remained silent. She refused to play into his games as she knew exactly what he could do once he got in her head. After all, it was his fault she left in the first place. "You don't really expect me to comply, do you? Do you know how many innocent people you killed over this!? What's wrong with you!" Baring her teeth, she practically demanded an answer, but instead she was met with a cocky laugh. "Sheesh. Humans have really gotten to ya, haven't they. Where's that girl I fell in love with, huh? The 'Eagle-eyed Elf' of the pack." He wanted to hit where it hurt. Staring dead at the green haired woman across the roof, she returned to her previous glare, only to ignite his laughter once again. "THERE IT IS! That sexy glare that I love so much. Yum, yum yum~ Ya know what? Let's make a deal. You give me the sword, and I'll leave. I'll let you, these little gnats called humans, and every last building live on. Just toss it over and we'll call it-" He paused as an arrow fired past his head, watching it move along the air before it dissipated. As he looked back, the innate look of shock was replaced with one of excitement. The prior grin was returning and his hands burst into flames.
With a sudden change of pace, Mia had collapsed her bow, sitting it back into place on her back and took her newly obtained artifact in hand. "Ohhh, Mia, darling~ You know you can't beat me in combat up close~" The fire mage jetted himself across the roof, using his fire abilities to create a thruster like action. One arm was cocked back, ready to swing at her while he let out some barbaric cry. Eyes shifted about her surroundings before she ran out of time to react by dodging to any side. Instead, she bent back, her back against the wall and her legs pushing up off of the roof, forcing his direction to throw off the way his attack was intended. The bounty huntress then pushed herself off of the roof ledge, moving in a similar type of fashion as the male elf had been forced to move. Lastly, as he had shot down toward the ground, Mianala had pushed herself off of the rooftop side and almost as though she were gliding down to the ground, she landed gracefully onto her feet while he crashed into the ground.
As expected, the male elf began to get up on his feet with little issues aside from the bloodied hand from her arrow shot. "Not bad... But let's see if you can even use that thing." And on went his cocky grin once again, which only led him to gather together fire in his hands. Given she'd gotten him into the courtyard of the museum, she was able to keep things to a minimum for the time being. Smirking, she allowed him the chance to attack her first with a rather large fireball. Not only did he know her.. but she also knew him. He wasn't one to sit in place. With a light exhale, she took the chance she thought she'd only get one of and took a swing, her Scimitar clashing with the fireball and then with her momentum, pushed the fireball off to her left. In a shocking turn, the fire mage had moved right into the new path of his own spell, crashing down on top of him. Her body instinctively ducked down, thinking that she was about to receive a spell like attack, but instead the elf had thrown himself into the mix and Mia took full advantage, taking this artifact across his chest, ripping through clothes and skin alike. His blood splattered onto the ground and he stepped back. His angered pain only started. Slowly, he took his own fire and began to cauterize the wound before he started to laugh. "Not bad... But let's step things up a bit." His feet soon began to become coated in fire just like his hands and again he started forward toward her. The elven woman hesitated for a moment before she felt a sudden pulse of energy through her arm originating from the sword and the ground began to soften. In a swipe, the earth turned to sand and shot out from the ground. It swirled in a vortex at a high rate of speed, trapping the pair within before spitting the fire mage out.
Taking the moment, Mia jumped up and landed a flat kick to his face and knocked him into the sandy whirlwind, watching it bounce him back towards her, she swung and delivered another adjacent slice to his chest and in almost a fit of an uncontrollable rage to need to spill blood, she continued this switch of blunt whacks of her extremities then more shallow wounds. This continued on until the sand around them plummeted to the ground in a ring and her last kick shot him through the falling sand, landing on the ground. When he finished skidding along the ground, a line of Rune Knights were surrounding him, each taking his hands and feet to remove the tools that had allowed him the powers. Staring at them was the Dies Irae member, huffing with a red hue to her gaze. Her hands shook with the need to attack, but her conscious had fought this off, knowing this wasn't a fight she had to do. "We will take it from here. We appreciate your quick acting on this matter, ma'am. Please keep up the good work." The Knight in charge of the troop spoke, though she paid no mind as her eyes were locked onto her nearly unconscious elven kind. "Make sure nothing magical gets in his hands. Ever." Mia replied, turning around only to see the mayor at her feet, eyeing over the scimitar and nodding to himself. "Yes, yes! This was true indeedy so!" He spoke happily and frantically, making Mia raise a brow in confusion. "My suspicions were correct and he WAS going here! And more so, the artifact was indeed meant for you! Not only that, you saved hundreds of historical pieces inside! Please, please take this as a token of my thanks!" For the first time in a long time, Mianala's face flushed pink. Flattery the cause, no less. But she felt something she hadn't in so long, that the feeling when presented was at first hard to believe, but with the cheering applause from the bystanders in the distance, she smiled lightly. "I-I don't know what to say... W-Well a thank you is obvious.. b-but are you sure?" She looked out to the crowd, and when she looked back down to the mayor, Mia was given a nodding from him while he smiled brightly. "Now then, I know you have more work, so take this and be well! Don't be afraid to come back either!" The added tick of remembering she had another job hit her and with no spare time to waste, Mia shook the mayors hands, hearing snapping pictures faintly in the distance before the bounty huntress took off, headed back toward her ride to take her along to the village for her next job.
Well, there was no stalling for time now. Her task was in need of completion and the final touches to her uniform had to be finished.
