She was born into chaos and darkness...
But she chose to walk in the light of the law.
But she chose to walk in the light of the law.
Evening was falling by the time Catrinette reached the entrance to the Rune Knights headquarters at Era. Daylight was fading, and the shadows were growing longer. Cat hoped that the headquarters would still be open. But then again, surely they would have to have somewhere for people to report crimes, and for the knights to bring in apprehended criminals. Evil never slept, and in fact, the night was when they were most active. Cat knew that all to well. She'd been on that path herself once- close to becoming the thing that goes bump in the night. But she'd backed off that path, and made that defining choice in her life. She may walk in the darkness, but that didn't mean she had to be a part of it. And now she had decided to do more than to simply police her own actions. No, she would take part in curbing the dark forces in the world. And perhaps, given her past, she'd be able to pull some of them to the light like she had been. And that was why she had made up her mind: she would join the Rune Knights. Besides, the strict code of conduct of a knight would do well for her. Not because she loved being controlled. In fact, sometimes she could chafe under leadership, if she did not agree with the decisions being made. But that was her chaotic nature shinning through, and it was about time she put that to rest and overcame that weakness. Especially when her magic was always there in the back of her mind. It was sleeping now, but she knew sooner or later it would crack open its ugly eye and whisper its poison into her mind, pushing her to let go and wreak the havoc it always wanted to create. But she had no intention of giving in, and she suspected the order and discipline the Rune Knights would instill in her would help her fight those dangerous impulses. Cat pushed her thoughts aside and pushed the doors open, stepping inside and eyeing the room. It was, quite obviously, a reception area, to greet the knights and petitioners alike who came to the headquarters. There were various doors leading off the room, heading deeper into the building, but Cat skipped over them, knowing those areas would be by invitation only. Instead, she focused on the large desk to one side of the room. No one seemed to be behind it at the moment. In fact, there was no one else in the room at all right now. A coincidence, surely. She was willing to bet that there was someone assigned to watch the desk at all times, and they'd simply stepped away for a moment. Still, she crossed to the desk and stopped, waiting patiently for someone to come along. |
