Leila Vergious ❃ Y-rank ❃ Silver Wolf Leila observed as the dark storming clouds grew closer and closer in the distance. Her figured, shrouded in the dark cloak that she chose to wear on this somber day, seated on the edge of a roof. The village was one of many that dotted the island which served as a wonderful place for tourism. But right now, all of the people who normally filled its streets and beaches were completely gone, evacuated. For once, the magic council was able to see the threat coming. Even if these places were to be destroyed, no lives should be lost in the process. But, naturally, any damage at all was still far from desirable. So how exactly did this happen and what was even going on? About a full day ago, Leila had received an urgent letter directed to her, one from the good folk from the magic council. A request for someone of her achievements to deliver herself to this island as swiftly as was possible for her. Some form of threat was slowly emerging from the ocean, a creature of sorts that was capable of bringing destruction along with it wherever it went. And with the kind of power it had, only the most powerful could stop it. Leila was not the only one they asked for. The situation was so dire that apparently even the leader of Rune Knights herself would be present. Though the two of them had yet to meet up. Something that would probably happen soon, as there was not much time left before the estimated time of emergence would arrive. Still, the girl could not help but wonder what this was all about. Such devastating powers rarely awoke by themselves, especially before deciding that it would be a good idea to destroy the nearest island to them. And with how much power it was supposed to have, a grim thought ran through the wolf’s head. Will they really be able to protect this place from any and all forms of damage? Her fingers instinctively pulled her hoodie more into her face, as if she was trying to hide from the rest of the world. There was still much training for her to be done before she could confidently say that she had mastered her new powers, so would she even be of any use in this conflict? And why did these thoughts always surface whenever something big was going down? Shaking her head, the decided to leap off of the roof and gently land on the stone street down below. The black coat fluttered around her form, what little skin of hers exposed feeling the cold breeze brushing up against it. The storm was coming, alright. They could all feel it all the way from here. But as long as it remained beneath the ocean’s surface, there was little they could do aside from waiting. So that was what she had to do, using the time to calm herself down and familiarize herself with the area where they would engage the beast. |

Re: Into the storm
Conviction never shames nor condemns us.
It calls us back to who we truly are.
It calls us back to who we truly are.
Finding the place had not taken very long, though that was arguably only because Serilda had been in the area before. She hadn’t been to this particular island, but there was one not terribly far away that she once been shipwrecked on with Mythal and Kameyama. It was just as well, since her ability to transport instantly with her magic required her to connect to a place she either had already been or to a person she had spent a moderate amount of time around. Since neither applied in this situation, she had to move to the next nearest place and then travel from there. Luckily, she wouldn’t have to travel too far, nor wonder if she was heading in the right direction. The storm clouds far in the distance were more than enough evidence of where she needed to go, so as soon as she’d stepped out of her Void gateway she was able to head off. In her arms was her companion, a large wolf named Xiuhcoatl that had a beautiful coat that looked like the midnight starry sky. Though the beast was capable of moving much more quickly than her brethren of other breeds, she was not capable of flight like Serilda was. As they drew closer toward the horizon, the wind began to pick up even as the air began to chill. Even from being at just the outskirts of the storm before it had even fully hit, she was instantly invigorated by the strength of the air currents and the coldness in the air. Though Serilda didn’t normally think such things of herself, she couldn’t help but think it had been a wise choice for the Council to send her on this mission due to the nature of her slayer magic. This task certainly would not be a breeze, so to speak, but at least she would be hard pressed to run out of energy. Do you know anything about this creature? I’ve heard of it and seen some of the damage its done in the past, but never bothered to see it for myself. The voice currently in her head belonged to Victoria. Known as the Seal of Conquest, the half demon half angel woman was essentially a horseman of the apocalypse that Serilda unfortunately shared a soul with. The two of them rarely, if ever, got along. They did not see eye to eye in almost anything, and the only thing that kept Victoria to heel was the humiliating defeat she’d suffered at Serilda and Mythal’s hands. The Voidwalker couldn’t decide if the Seal had genuinely resigned herself to her fate as a mere passenger in Serilda’s body, or if the woman was just biding her time for a second attempt at taking over. Serilda could feel the presence of an island approaching with her Void Sense and veered in that direction. She was supposed to be meeting another wizard here, specifically another wizard saint. The fact that two of them had been requested to tackle this issue was a sign of just how big a problem it truly was. The damage that you saw: was it as bad as the Council described? Despite having no physical body of her own at the moment, Serilda got the impression that Victoria had nodded. Yes, it was quite impressive to behold, actually. Entire cities were completely flattened. They call him the Storm King for a reason. If mortals are not smart enough to leave in time, he leaves nearly as much death and destruction as a war might. The old woman’s voice held a tone of interest that Victoria didn’t even bother to hide. She held no regard for human life and thus felt no empathy toward those that had been lost over the years. I’ve always been interested in seeking him out and testing myself against him, but the timing has never been right. I am quite looking forward to this. I’m sure you are, the noblewoman remarked dryly, not nearly as eager or impressed as the Seal was. It took only another couple minutes for her to reach the island. Locating her partner for this job was not difficult as the cities had already been fully evacuated. All Serilda had to do was search for the lone body among the emptied streets and head toward it. She touched back down to ground near a woman that was similar to Serilda in looks. Both were generally pale colored women with only some slight differences. Where the Saint of Conviction’s hair was pure white with blue eyes that were lighter in shade like a crystal, the Saint of Radience’s hair was a beautiful silver shade with eyes a shade of blue more akin to a deep, vast pool of water. The leader of the Knights was dressed her in official uniform: a simple black ensemble that was trimmed in white, resulting in a plain but smart look. On either side of her hips were a pair of sheathed scimitars. Serilda set Xiuh down on the ground where the wolf shook out her thick coat. “You must be Miss Leila Vergious,” she opened up by way of greeting. “I hope I haven’t kept you waiting too long. I came as soon as the Council informed me. I am Serilda Sinclair, field marshal for the Rune Knights.” While the noblewoman had quite a few titles, she was not a fan of boasting them like other nobles that were more interested in stroking their own egos above all else. Most of the time, she only used what was necessary for the given moment to introduce herself. She offered the other woman a polite but firm handshake. “Congratulations on your appointment as a wizard saint.” Serilda was fairly new to the title herself, but she carried herself like the proper woman of poise and honor that she had been raised to be and would not overlook taking a quick moment to acknowledge the status of her newest peer. Particularly since it seemed the Storm King hadn’t quite shown himself yet. Serilda turned her gaze out toward the sea. “How do you want to do this? I was informed that engaging him in battle would be quite dangerous, but I don’t know anything about him. If he can speak, perhaps he can be reasoned with… though I imagine if that were the case this would have stopped being an issue long before now.” Not knowing Leila’s background or skills, she was unsure what their best approach could be. It was best to try and come up with some kind of strategy now while they had the time. Serilda couldn’t feel the approach of the Storm King below the sea just yet, but the atoms of the water were beginning to quicken from their normal speed far out in the distance as something out there churned the ocean from his natural flow. It would not be long before he was here. |

Re: Into the storm
Leila Vergious ❃ Y-rank ❃ Silver Wolf It didn’t take long before a figure formed over the visage of the village and the sea, floating in the skies like a holy messenger of the heavens descending upon the dirtied land facing its final end. The only thing that was missing from the picturesque scene was a pair of pure white angelic wings, a halo, and a chorus of pristine voices that would accompany the angel’s descent. But alas, the reality soon settled back in and shattered the illusion of something much grander, perhaps for the betterment of everyone involved. The storm would be a dangerous one, but hopefully not a world-ending event. Still, Leila couldn’t quite help herself but continue staring at this figure, one which shared quite a few similar traits with her own physical manifestation. Perhaps even to an uncanny degree, at least for anyone who would look at the tho of them from an outsider’s perspective. No such soul was or would be present here today, so there was truly no way of fully telling. That was if the Eden’s child consciously disregarded her own spirits that she’d probably end up calling forth during this arduous quest. However, they were not ones to easily mock their peer. There was also another thing that Leila’s gaze fixated upon, a cuddlesome-looking wolf embraced in the other girl’s arms. Its coat reminded her of the celestial aspect that she had dominion over, a pattern that the girl most certainly could appreciate to a great degree. And, well, it was a fairly amusing coincidence that both of them would boast such a fierce, yet adorable companion. Only Leila’s was currently nowhere to be found, though the girl expected her to return any moment now. It just seemed that before then, she’d get the chance to exchange greetings with her partner for today. “Ah, yes. I didn’t wait long, no… and it gave me a chance to look around first, anyhow. It’s a pleasure to meet you, miss Sinclair.” Trying to show as much courtliness as she could muster, Leila decided to start performing an elegant bow as an answer to the greeting. Only to be somewhat awkwardly stopped midway by the extended hand, beckoning a handshake. Snapping back into a straightened position, she would shake the hand firmly enough to show that she intended on being no pushover, but also gentle enough to not accidentally crush her new acquaintance’s hand. Not that such a thing would likely be easy, given the prowess of the individual standing in front of her. The silver-haired girl merely hoped to not have her true nature show through in the presence of someone who actually carried themselves well above the common rabble. A task of utmost difficulty, given the fact that Leila was a wandering vagabond for the greater part of her earthly life. At the very least, she took a decisive hold of the hood draped over her head and moved it back, fully revealing herself, or rather, her head. Then, yet another moment of mild awkwardness arrived. Not one intentionally caused by Serilda, Leila was sure… but still, she had to sort her thoughts for a brief moment before giving an answer. After all, she was just congratulated on becoming a Wizard Saint. The catch was, the title was nothing new to her. Not in a manner of bold boasting, naturally, but in quite the literal interpretation. And not only Saint, but she was also one of the four famed Gods of Ishgar before. But getting stuck in another realm for over half a year, well… it was only natural that most presumed her to be dead. As such, the title, among others, was stripped from her and given to another deserving individual in the line. When she came back, the council gave her a somewhat insincere apology with the announcement that they could not take the title that was previously hers from the person that held it currently. And so she became title-less once more. So yes, this was her second time around with Saints and Gods. The result of which was the mild discomfort that she felt whenever someone brought it up. Still, she made her very best to not let any of that show. “T-thank you… I’ll do my best to show that I’m worthy of the title as much as you and the other Saints are.” The reply was ended with a dry cough into the girl’s fist and a quick glance to the side, only to be met with quite the wonderful scene there. Melon must have finally returned from running about in the city, quickly catching the scent of the other oddly-colored wolf in the area. Being the curious little creature that she was, she swiftly approached Xiuhcoatl and tried to engage in some social interactions between the two feral creatures. Leila, in the meantime, observed Serilda’s gaze turning toward the sea, an origination point of their soon-to-be enemy. Just as she would expect from the leader of Rune Knights, she was not someone who would disregard the possibility of a diplomatic solution to the problem, even if highly unlikely. This was much unlike most of the ‘legal’ mages that flooded the world these days, ones that were a bit too eager to slaughter whoever was deemed to be evil by those holding positions of power. An ideology that Leila simply could not agree with. But while she was all for trying to talk the enemy down without shedding any blood, she knew that was simply not going to happen. “Yes, I’m afraid that the Storm King is not a creature that is willing to listen to reason. Or if it is even capable of that. I… spoke with the Sea. It appears to be a being existing as the force of nature itself. It will not stop until it has accomplished its task, that is… destruction.” What she said probably sounded rather odd, perhaps enough so to brand her a mild lunatic. She certainly did not ‘speak’ with the sea about such a subject. Or about anything at all, for that matter. Yes, she was capable of partially conversing with animals and even sense things from nature around her, but speaking to non-sentient forms of life or objects was just an excuse on all fronts. The real reason why she knew that a fight was inevitable was because of her recently awakened prophetic abilities. The spirit of a golden dragon and its blessing that rested deep within her very being. It gave her a vision of the upcoming battle. A distant image with no concrete information about winning or losing, just the fact that there would be a confrontation. This power was something that Leila wished to not disclose to anyone she did not know, for it would most certainly bring her more trouble than it was worth. Everyone wanted to get their grubby little hands on a being that was capable of seeing into the future. So she could only hope that the other mage would believe her strange words for now, or at the very least not question her any further about it. “But while it seems that fighting will be inevitable, I don’t think there is any reason to kill it. If we weaken it enough, it should return to its slumber. Though even that will probably take some serious firepower.” Scratching the back of her head, Leila wondered if she would be able to effectively utilize her new powers today. It’d be quite the help if that were the case. “You were able to fly before, can you do it again? I think it would be for the best if we engaged the king high above.” This was for two primary reasons. The village, well… it was in a direct path of devastation as things stood right now. If no one would do anything, the Storm King would level it completely. Battling high above it would hopefully minimize the damage. The other reason was far more simple. Leila was also capable of flight so if the two girls could take to the skies, they would have far more room to maneuver in. “Oh, and I suppose you might now know much about my magic. It’s one that combines celestial with nature. It’s a bit hard to explain, so it might be best to just show you when the king arrives.” |

Re: Into the storm
Conviction never shames nor condemns us.
It calls us back to who we truly are.
It calls us back to who we truly are.
It seemed Serilda had caught the other woman slightly off guard with her handshake, but Leila recovered by accepting the gesture graciously. For her part, the field marshal hardly seemed to be looking down her nose at the other woman at all. Despite the dignity, poise, and confidence with which she carried herself, Serilda was being quite genuine in her friendliness toward Leila, not extending her any sort of judgement. Being unaware of Leila’s past, Serilda of course had no notion that she was touching on a sensitive topic when she brought up Leila’s recent promotion. If she noticed the other woman’s slight stammer and discomfort, she didn’t choose to expand upon it, happy to let the topic end there so they could focus on more pressing matters. Around that time they were approached by another hound. It had a bright, almost neon coat with red circular markings on it and tufts of extra long hair around its neck. Serilda could only assume that it was a companion of Leila’s, as the other woman didn’t seem too surprised by the animal’s existence. The other wolf approached Xiuh with open interest and curiosity, and while the excitement in Xiuh’s eyes and the slight wag of her tail was enough to betray that she was equally as curious about the other hound, she took a step back rather than let Melon approach too closely. They had a moment to strategize and speak with one another, so Serilda didn’t see the harm in letting her hound relax for the moment. Especially when she could sense the animal’s excitement at the prospect of a new friend bursting from every fiber of her being. The noblewoman smirked softly at the creature and gave the hand single that allowed Xiuh to do as she pleased for the moment. The switch was instantaneous as the darker wolf practically leapt forward to shove her nose at Melon, bushy tail wagging in full as she happily and excitedly greeted the other canine. Leila responded to Serilda’s conjectures with her own, confirming that the likelihood of solving this situation without fighting was slim to none. She explained that she had spoken with the sea and learned more about the nature of the Storm King. It was a strange admission, one that certainly had piqued Serilda’s curiosity but the Voidwalker didn’t ask too much about it. Magic was often a bizarre and senseless thing, and she had learned a long time ago not to question the logic behind certain types or magic nor to be surprised by things she’d never heard of. After all, her primary source of magic was one that most people had a difficult time grasping even if she took the time to try to explain it. Serilda watched Leila in thoughtful silence as the other saint explained that they didn’t necessarily have to kill the creature, despite the inevitability of a fight with it. Serilda nodded her agreement. Though she had killed before and likely would again, it was not a solution she preferred to gravitate to unless absolutely necessary. “We’ll do everything we can to preserve his life. No matter what damage he may ultimately wind up doing, as long as the town has been fully evacuated and no lives are in danger, I do not see the point in trying to kill him. Towns can be rebuilt.” She could practically feel Victoria rolling her non-existent eyes at her, but Serilda ignored the sensation. “I can fly at will, yes. An aerial approach shouldn’t be an issue.” That, and trying to engage him before he even reached the town would be wise. In that case if it came to blows, they wouldn’t have to worry about too much collateral damage. She was glad that Leila seemed to have a similar desire for approaching this, as things could go south pretty quickly should the two of them disagree. Thankfully, it looked like they were of similar mindsets. Leila explained a bit about her magic, nothing too specific other than to let Serilda know she had access to celestial and nature type spells. The noblewoman nodded in understanding. “I think they chose wisely in sending the two of us, in that case. Our magics together should be fairly effective against him… or at least, if worst comes to, effective in at least minimizing the damage until he’s done. My own magic is a bit… eclectic.” Communication now was key, so Serilda returned the favor and shared some of her own capabilities. “Primarily I use a type of space magic. It’s a bit complicated to explain, but the general gist is that I can effect and control the molecules of the world around us. But I also have some storm magic of my own, which will hopefully allow me to counter some of his nature.” There was a slight pause as she considered her next words. Talking about her newest acquired magic was still a touchy subject for her as she was not proud of it and would give anything not to have it. It wasn’t a style of magic that most folk found reputable. In fact, it often had connotations of evil to it, and if Serilda had been given a choice in the matter she never would have taken it. Sometimes it was easier for her to simply act like it didn’t exist, but in situations like these hiding it could often be more detrimental in the long run. “I may as well divulge this now so you aren’t surprised by it later if it comes up,” the noblewoman told her. She was still carrying herself with grace about the subject, but the tone of her voice and the way her brows scrunched in displeasure would be more than enough to convey to Leila that it wasn’t a source of pride for her. “I share a soul with a nephilim named Victoria. She utilizes blood magic, which I also have access to. I’m not sure if your connection with the celestial allows you to sense such things, but don’t be alarmed if you feel magic from me that is both divine and demonic in nature. It stems from her.” Admitting to be in possession of blood magic was always more than a little embarrassing to the saint of conviction, but for a matter as important as this she wasn’t going to hide it. Not everyone was necessarily put off by blood magic, so hopefully it wouldn’t be a source of distrust for her current companion but better to be upfront about it ahead of time. Victoria sighed inside Serilda’s head. You know, these interactions would go over a lot easier if you just let me wander around in my own body at will instead of keeping me shackled in your head all the time. I’ll pass on that, thanks. You have a fair bit of trust to earn back with me before I give your leash that kind of slack. The comment stoked a bit of indignant ire in the ancient being, who did not like being talked down to, but ultimately the Seal kept her retorts to herself. Instead, she decided to change tactics. Depending on what kind of creature the Storm King actually is, it’s possible I may be able to speak to it. As a Seal, I’m capable of communicating with any intelligent being, regardless of language barriers. I think it would be simpler and far more interesting to fight him and put him down, but far be it from me to tell you what to do. There was more than a little sass at the last sentence, but Serilda let it slide. Instead, she focused on relaying the information to Leila to discuss their potential options. “Victoria says she may be able to speak to the Storm King on our behalf, regardless of the language he speaks, so long as he is capable of communication. If he truly is just a mindless creature of nature… well, I think we both agree there may not be much we can do aside from try to redirect him or at least contain his destruction.” |

Re: Into the storm
Leila Vergious ❃ Y-rank ❃ Silver Wolf Naturally, Melon was not one to retreat and quickly re-precipitated the socialization while the human companions of both discussed their own matters. And the two of them seemed to understand one another fairly well, which was always a bonus. Butting heads when they both wielded considerable amount of power would only bring another disaster to the island. Though finding someone who was so determined to not end their opponent’s life was quite the surprise for Leila. Rarely did she work with someone of such beliefs. Most people were far too eager to eliminate their enemies, make sure that they are gone from the world for good. Calling upon reason and logic of potential dangers in the future if they did not cut the enemy down, that was often how they defended themselves. There were also ones who were willing to give sparing the enemy a chance but when that ultimately proved to be more troublesome than just killing them, they would give up and end their lives. Leila was like that once. But that was a long, long time in the past by now. She had learned the value of life. Something that no one could ever pay for, even if they owned all the riches in the world. But while it was a shame that so many folks were willing to kill, Leila rarely argued against them and simply let them do their own thing. After all, it would be rather troublesome if she antagonized every single person she had worked with and that held this belief. Sure, she was always ready to share her own view of things. But that gave her no real right to judge others, much like no one else had the right to judge her for wanting to keep her enemies alive and brought in front of the justice system. All of that aside, it was time to discuss how exactly they would engage the enemy. Thankfully, Serilda confirmed that she was capable of taking to the skies just as much as Leila was. This meant minimal damage to the city unless they were to horribly fail at their task. Which, hopefully, would not be the case. And if it were, it would be a true testament to the sheer power that this Storm King holds. “I do agree that we should have at least some advantage here. Though my powers are more effective on the ground, I can still use most of them in the air as well.” Many nature-based mages were completely disabled when surrounded by nothing but empty air and no ground to grow things from. Thankfully, Leila had already gotten past that weakness and overcame it nearly completely. Her own body was capable of becoming a conduit for the Gardens. And the celestial powers she wielded were not restricted by her environment in the slightest. Leila then continued listening to her new acquaintance about the magic they wielded. It certainly sounded interesting, as well as fairly dangerous. Imagining what would happen if a magic that could control anything on molecular level hit her own body sent shivers down her spine. Hopefully, she would never find out. But that very aspect made it sound at least somewhat similar to Leila’s own power. She couldn’t be absolutely sure without seeing it, but it made her ponder whether they shared at least some aspects that constructed their magics. If that were the case, the two girls would be almost eerily similar to one another. An amusing thought, really. But then another interesting issue was raised up. One of the other girl having another being locked up inside of her, the result of which was control over a blood magic of sorts. And the way she said it all seemed as if she had contempt for this asset. To be fair, Leila couldn’t blame her. Depending on how the being inside of her was, it could be literal hell. That said, she was not about to change her attitude toward someone just because they wielded magic that was generally seen as evil, or because they had something sealed inside of them, probably against their will. In fact, she chuckled instead as she decided to try and lighten up the mood at least a little bit, or try to make the other girl feel at ease. “Ah, so I’m not the only one with voices in her head. That is reassuring to hear. Hope yours is not as annoying as the ones that sometimes break up inside of my mind.” With a smile, she tapped against her template as she backed away and seated herself on the nearest standing barrel. Her case was obviously different from Serilda’s, but still similar in some ways. Her spirits were, for the most part, friendly with her. And they were not stuck inside of Leila or anything like that. They still lived their lives in the Gardens of Eden until they were summoned by the girl. Though sometimes they also opened their own gates by themselves to keep the girl company. The main point was that their minds were not always connected. Which was good, as a fair share of them would probably get a bit mad after hearing how their master described them. At the very least it was all in good fun. And judging by what the head of Rune Knights said next, this ancient being inside of her had her uses as well. Alas, Leila could only faintly sigh as she knew that the ability to talk with the Storm King would not change anything. “Feel free to try and talk it out with him. But from what I’ve gathered, it’s not about language barriers. We are facing a being that was created for destruction, at least partially. Nature’s reply to us, in a way.” Getting up again, she would stretch a bit before looking toward the storming sea. “Those who are consumed with rage rarely listen. And speaking of which, I feel that we have little time left before it all starts. So… one more thing about myself, I suppose. There is also this aspect of my magic.” Without fully explaining it with words, she decided to show instead. In a single moment, two giant wings sprouted from Leila’s back, lifting her cloak up into the air before it gently fell back down into the gap between the two new appendages. They were rather unusual wings, however. Almost appearing like two black stems holding up several massive petals of a rose. “This is a power of a dragon. I hope you don’t have anything against them… it’s the core of my offensive abilities if I don’t want to rely on my celestial spirits.” She was aware that many people did not like those with such powers. The ones dubbed ‘slayers’ even though Leila loved dragons quite a bit and would never dare to slay one. |

Leila’s attempt to lighten the mood worked. Serilda’s lips twitched momentarily before a small but genuine smirk tugged up one corner of her mouth. “Annoying is definitely a word for her. I’d go with insufferable, myself.” Excuse me? “Then again, my boyfriend is stuck with her brother, and compared to that guy she’s not so bad, I guess.” Victoria was absolutely fuming in Serilda’s head to the point of speechlessness. The way the Voidwalker’s grin grew a little wider, it probably wouldn’t be difficult for Leila to imagine that was the case. Either way, Victoria’s offer was on the table. Leila advised that she wasn’t against trying to communicate with the Storm King, but given what they understood of him she expected it to do little good. Serilda nodded. “I agree, but it’s worth a shot. If this is going to come to a fight, I’d at least like to be able to say we tried everything we could to keep it from getting that far.” She watched as the other woman stood back to her feet and revealed one last thing about her magic. A pair of wings that greatly resembled the petals of a rose dangling from dark vines sprouted from her back. Leila explained that her powers were derived from a dragon, to which Serilda could only assume she meant that her magic was dragon slaying based. Serilda smiled. “In general, I would be lying if I didn’t say I was afraid of dragons, among many other great creatures of reputable power… but no, I don’t have anything against them. Actually, I am friends with a dragonness. Plus it would be hypocritical of me at this point to have anything against dragons, as I recently learned that apparently my primary power comes from me supposedly being the descendant of an ancient void dragon. Many generations down the line, of course. I don’t have nearly enough dragon’s blood in me to turn into one, myself.” Serilda eyed Leila with a bit of mirth in her gaze. “I’m starting to think you and I may be related,” she teased, giving her own attempt at humor. At this point it would be awkward not to comment on the seemingly endless similarities between the two of them. “If we survive this, I’d be interested in getting better acquainted with you.” She left the offer of potential friendship at that, knowing now really wasn’t the time or the place. With a sigh of resignation, she closed her eyes and focused for a moment. Leila would witness a second body step out from Serilda’s to stand beside the field marshal. Victoria appeared to be an older woman in her seventies or eighties, though truthfully she was eons older than that. If the Silver Wolf mage thought Serilda had carried herself with any kind of poise, it was nothing in comparison to Victoria. The golden eyed nephilim had a haughtiness about her that could only come from a creature that had been alive since the dawn of time itself. Dressed as though for war, she was clad in blood red leather armor that was covered in silver studs and adorned with black raven feathers. A spiked silver crown sat upon her brow. She fixed a beady stare at Serilda that betrayed she was still quite displeased from the Voidwalker’s earlier comments. “Leila, meet Victoria. She’s… well, I guess you can think of her like a horseman of the apocalypse.” “There’s no ‘like’ about it. That’s exactly what I am, child, and you would do well to remember it.” Serilda resisted the urge to roll her eyes, if barely. “And you wonder why I never let you out on your own.” Victoria huffed, but said nothing about the comment toward her attitude. “Let’s just get this over with. Your desire to speak with the Storm King is only going to waste time, so I’d rather get it done sooner than later.” The noblewoman shot Leila a deadpan look as if to say, you see the shit I have to deal with? “Xiuhcoatl.” The starry coated hound immediately left Melon to trot over to Serilda and sit attentively at her mistress’s feet. Serilda touched the hound with her Voidwalking magic, instilling her with the weightlessness of outer space. It wasn’t the first time she had done this, so the wolf was more than used to flight at this point and leaped up into the air where she hovered and waited for Serilda to join her. The Voidwalker lifted back into the sky gently, even as a pair of black feathered wings sprouted from Victoria’s back. When everyone present was ready, they took to the air and flew out over the ocean to meet the Storm King head on. They got a few miles out and into the storm before Serilda stopped them. “He’s directly below us,” she called out to Leila over the roar of the wind and rain. If she had been by herself she would have just dove into the water to meet him there, since her magic made it such that she didn’t require oxygen to breathe. However, this would be a situation best greeted where everyone could engage. Reaching deep into her Voidwalking, Serilda reached out to the sea itself. She could feel the twisting pockets of emptiness that floated between the molecules of air and water in the ocean, just as she could sense the form of the Storm King deep below the surface. Serilda had never tried to manipulate matter quite to this scale before, so she closed her eyes to focus and concentrate. The churning waters began to quiver until the sea suddenly parted, splitting hundreds of meters right down to the sand upon which the Storm King walked. A gap between him and the ocean spread around him, leaving him bare to the open air. He turned to look up at them. By all appearances his form was exactly what Serilda had envisioned for a being of his title and reputation. He was a towering giant that looked as though a thunderstorm had simply taken the form of a humanoid and started walking around the earth. For all she knew, that’s exactly what had happened. It was taking all of her concentration to keep the sea open the way that she was, so Serilda let Victoria take it from here, praying that the nephilim kept her pettiness in check long enough to actually make a serious attempt at helping them. Thankfully, that seemed to be the case. Victoria dropped herself down closer toward the elemental being, hovering over him at a place she could ensure her voice would be clearly heard. “Greetings, Master of Storm,” she opened, her tone already leagues more respectful than anything she’d ever used to address Serilda. “I know you can sense what I am. I am Victoria, Seal of Conquest, first of the great Nephilim of Apocalypse. I greet you in respect, and on behalf of these mortals with me ask that you deter your course back toward the sea so the homes of their kin may be spared from your wrath.” It seemed Victoria was capable of being quite diplomatic when she wished to be, which was news to the field marshal. The Storm King didn’t say anything right away, but his eyes were fixed on Victoria like he could, in fact, understand her. Or perhaps he was simply drawn to the ageless power that radiated from her. Serilda kept herself steady, waiting to see how he would respond. By her calculations, there were really only three real outcomes from this interaction. Either he would speak out in response to Victoria’s words, ignore them completely and press on, or attack them. She was relying on Victoria and Leila to take the initiative should he choose to attack, because if she let go of her hold on the ocean, the waters would clap back together violently and she’d be forced to expend time and energy stopping a tidal wave from forming. |
