"Character counts most when duty calls." The trip to the border of Iceberg was an enchanting one, to say the least. Seven was a beautiful country. Serilda had heard plenty of stores about it, but had never gotten the chance to visit the place herself. Almost the entirety of the country was made up of forests, and homes were built into the trees and the woods as though they had stepped into some kind of fairytale. Mythal’s ability to manipulate portals had gotten them a vast chunk of the way through the journey rather quickly, of course, but the directions to the city they were trying to get to didn’t allow for them being able to simply pop themselves over. Because of this, they were able to enjoy a little bit of time journeying through Seven’s luscious landscapes before the climate started to shift somewhat violently toward the bitter cold. Soon, ice and snow took over grass and foliage. The weather turned crisp and cool, but surprisingly not as cold as one should think for what was essentially a tundra. Frozen weather didn’t typically affect the Voidwalker too much, but she was actually feeling oddly warm. She didn’t know much about this place known as Vintermyr. In fact, she’d never even heard of it before. But it was clear by the instructions in the job posting that there was something about this city that made it almost impossible to reach unless you had explicit instructions on how to get there, almost like the city itself needed to invite you in if you wanted to find it. The job posting had been sent specifically to Serilda and Mythal, which wasn’t a particularly uncommon thing. At this point, the pair had achieved quite a bit of fame throughout Fiore and even some of the neighboring countries for their work as wizards, and that was even before they’d helped protect Era from a dark guild attack and subsequently taken over the Rune Knights. The infamous Sorcerer Weekly magazine had even managed to convince them to do an interview about their relationship. At this point, pretty much the entire country knew about the couple, particularly their work ethic and dedication to their responsibility as wizards to protect the citizens of Fiore. Because of this, it was a fairly regular thing that the two of them were requested for certain jobs specifically. This particular notice had asked for them to come to Vintermyr at their earliest opportunity. It seemed a recent earthquake from two large, shifting glaciers had caused destruction to a rather large chunk of the city. The buildings, as well as the foundation upon which they sat, had sustained heavy damage. The people of the town had heard of Mythal’s physical strength, as well as of Serilda’s abilities to manipulate space, and hoped the two great wizards could assist them in trying to get the structures fixed. It seemed like a simple enough job. Plus, Mythal was going absolutely stir crazy with his new position as a general, which required far more paperwork and desk time than he liked. So they accepted the job, made the needed preparations to have the Knights looked after while they were away, and headed out. When they reached the outskirts of Vintermyr, Serilda stopped and looked toward the horizon with a bit of awe in her gaze. They were greeted by the biggest wall of ice she’d ever seen, intricately sculpted and long enough to wrap around the entire city with only one major gate for entrance. Glistening spires of ice and snow reached toward the sky in the form of buildings, reminding her very much of Ozorith’s temple in his realm -- though the lighting there had been dark and dim, and the ice had been black. It almost looked as though someone had taken Ozorith’s domain and purified it. It was spectacular, and breathtaking. Once the city had come into sight, it hadn’t taken long to get to the gate. The portcullis was down and the screening at the entrance was very loose. They were admitted with no fuss, and almost no questions; just a quick glance at their passports to confirm identity before being waved inside. Hundreds, if not thousands, of people appeared to live here. The streets were filled with people going about their days, buying food and sell goods and wares. Aside from the ice theme, it felt very much like walking the streets of any other city in Fiore. Serilda could sense the difficulty with which Xiuh was maintaining her discipline, longing to scatter to all corners of the city and smell everything in sight, but the Voidwalker knew the wolf wouldn’t actually follow through on any such instincts. The posting instructed them to meet their contact at a bar and tavern called the White Talon. After a little help with directions from the locals, they were able to locate it somewhere toward one of the far edges of the city. It was a bit of a walk, so they had plenty of time to take in the city and its people as they made their way over. At first Serilda was just fascinated by everything, but after a bit she hummed a bit in thought and frowned slightly. “Have you seen any damage yet?” she asked Mythal quietly. There wasn’t necessarily any suspicion in her voice so much as confusion. “It’s a pretty big city so it could be where we haven’t looked yet, but… an earthquake as big as they said it was, you’d think it would have affected parts of the whole city.” Words: 936/936 |

Re: Too Many Surprises
I've been out there and seen the things she's made
There weren’t many places that Mythal would consider breath-taking in the world, as his idea of what beauty was tended to be pretty skewed. But honestly, the trip to Vintermyr was quite the stunning journey. Seven was a world of natural coordination and symbiosis; the people of the land had built in tandem with the world around them rather than simply cutting it down for their own advantages. In a way, the God Slayer was quite pleased that he couldn’t simply portal them from their homes to the town they were aiming for. It had been a frustrating fact at first -- his ability to take them near everywhere in an instant had been sidelined by the lack of directions. That and he hadn’t connected to any of the dark points up in Vintermyr, let alone Seven itself. He’d taken them as far as he could and then it was up to them to travel in more conventional manners.
It took them about three days to get through all of Seven, stopping off in the villages to rest overnight and then continuing on early in the morning. But soon enough they were crossing the border and, even before they reached the crossing point, they could see the frosty influences in the plant life around them. The leaves began to fade, giving way to powered limbs and frozen trunks of wood. Once they were officially in Iceberg, all that was left before them was a snow-covered wasteland. And yet, ‘wasteland’ wasn’t the proper term -- it wasn’t some desolate place lacking in beauty of wonder. In fact, Iceberg was quite the oddity; despite its snow-topped appearance, the air itself was actually cozy and comfortable. There were trees made completely of ice, looking like amazing sculptures etched by the finest artists as they reached their frozen tendrils to the sky. The snow was crunchy and smooth, save for the marked areas for roads and paths, creating a true winter wonderland for all to see.
Though he was not nearly as comfortable with the cold as Serilda, Mythal actually enjoyed the peaceful look of the world around them. What was odd though was how it was almost too perfect. The job that had taken this far north had described the town of Vintermyr as in desperate need of repair. A recent earthquake had tore through the normally peaceful region and had caused quite a bit of damage to the structures of the city, even going as far as to describe it as ‘destruction’. It seemed like a relatively easy job that would involve a bit of grunt work; cleaning up debris, putting up new foundations and the like. But frankly, in comparison to sitting behind a desk and losing his mind in several layers of paperwork, it was a godsend. Between the two of them, the God Slayers were known for handling pretty much any task put before them and with his strength and her control over the void, they would make quick work of the clean up.
But even before they reached the outskirts of the town, Mythal was confused. An earthquake that caused so much devastation would surely not just be solely focused around the town itself -- it would expand to the world around it too. He expected to find craters and cracks in the snowy landscape, showing just how much damage the shifting underground plates had dealt. And yet there was nothing; everything seemed just as in place as they normally would be. His curiosity only grew as they came upon the site of the massive wall of ice and snow that surrounded the town. It was of impressive construction and sculpture, with icy structures peaking out beyond their ridges like stalagmites in the mouth of a cavern. It was breathtaking, if not strange as well. Such tall buildings would have suffered damage too, right? Mythal didn’t claim to be the brightest bulb nor a genius is architecture but the symbolism created with the job’s words seemed to be… not adding up.
They approached the gate, the massive portcullis already ready for their arrival. The guards checked their passports and admitted them without much conversation, not even bothering to give them directions. As they entered the frosted town, they were surprised by the sheer amount of people going about their day. Men and women bustling about the streets, selling form their shops and stalls, rushing off to errands -- it was much like any normal town not made of ice. But even then, something felt amiss. Serilda voiced it first, as they made their way to find the bar called the White Talon. She questioned him about the damage -- or rather, lack thereof. He nodded softly as he looked about. “Lack of damage here and in the land around it…” he muttered softly, the crimson orbs dancing about the people around them. He wasn’t one for having fame -- in fact, he quite resented it -- but he had understood that they were recognized fairly often. Almost everyone around them didn’t even give them a passing glance.
That and Gren wasn’t as boisterous as usual. He was still chipper but normally he would be bouncing about, sniffing and wuffing at all the people as they passed. Instead he moved right beside them without so much as a sound or erratic movement to sniff anything. It wasn’t enough to make him worry or panic but it was noteworthy. He nearly missed the sign for the White Talon as they came up by it; a wooden flap with a worn but painted claw on its face. A faded “White Talon” read across the bottom in some kind of fancy script. “Alright, we’re supposed to meet someone named… Aethers? Really?” He said with a scoff. He’d heard of ridiculous names but…
With a shrug, he pushed the door in and walked right into the bar. And boy, was it packed. All sorts were nestled into seats around the place; occupying stools, dining tables, booths and the like. Several conversations were going on at once and not one person bothered to look up at the intrusion of the two new people entering. The God Slayer walked slowly over to the bar, sliding between chairs and people, before he came up to the ice sculpture. The man standing behind it was facing away from them, cleaning a few glasses in the sink. “Ey,” the Darkness King called out to him, raising his voice to get it about the people’s conversations. “We’re lookin’ for an Aethers?”
“Ah, that would be me,” the bartender said, turning around to face them. A middle-aged man with medium length hair that hung about his shoulders, he looked more like a butler than he did a bartender. But the ominous looking eyepatch over his left eye, which looked more like the gaping hole of a skull pocket, was unsettling at best. He smiled evenly, out of politeness more than anything else. “I realized how silly that name was the minute I put it down.”
“Say again?”
“I was trying to be incredibly coy and clever but then I realized that you most likely had no idea who I was in the first place. How very silly of me,” the man said, shaking his head as he placed a glass down on the bar. “Let me introduce myself properly; my name is Serethar, Holder of Knowledge…” He trailed off as he raised his singular gaze to look between the two wizards. “And formerly of My Lady Faera’s court.”
He continued to smile evenly. “Now before we do anything rash, I was hoping we could talk.”

Re: Too Many Surprises
"Character counts most when duty calls." Mythal had picked up on the oddity of the fact that they hadn’t seen anything yet to evidence a catastrophic earthquake of any kind. In fact, he’d also pointed out that there hadn’t been any damage to the land leading up to the city, either. Serilda frowned and stretched out her Void Sense as far as it would go, her magic easily reaching to every corner of the city and beyond. She was searching to see if maybe the damage had been on the far side where they couldn’t see or outside the city on the other side from where they’d approached. Her frown deepened. “Nothing,” she told Mythal. “I don’t feel anything. If there was that much damage I should be able to locate some obviously damaged buildings, or splits in the ground, but everything seems totally normal.” She said this quietly, of course. Serilda was starting to get on edge. This was very quickly starting to feel like a trap. She wouldn’t have to say as much, of course, as Mythal liking was starting to think along the same lines. The noblewoman maintained her facade and tried not to show too much on her face that she was starting to feel uncomfortable, but Xiuh had certainly picked up on the shift in emotion. Even Gren had sensed the change in the mood. Both wolves kept close to their masters’ heels and put a keen eye to their surroundings as they walked. Soon they had managed to find the White Talon. It looked like any other bar, albeit sculpted out of ice and snow. And it was absolutely packed, which was strange to Serilda because it was only about midday. Why were there this many people in a bar instead of out at work making a living? She could understand that maybe people here drank a bit more in an effort to stay warm, but the city wasn’t nearly as cold as it should be for all this ice and excessive drinking wouldn’t help that much. As Mythal moved forward, Serilda stopped for only a moment to survey the crowd and she couldn’t help but notice an almost conscious effort to not make eye contact with her. She didn’t feel a single head turn their way as they walked in, which was a tell tale sign that this was, indeed, a trap. These people were trying far too hard to appear innocent. But who was trying to trap them? It could have been anyone. As a noble, Serilda had been subjected to assassination and kidnapping attempts through her whole life, particularly when she was still a child. And with the two of them essentially running the defenses for the entire country of Fiore, it was possible that someone was trying to draw them away from Era to launch an attack. At this point Serilda was past pretenses. She stayed where she was and eyed everyone around the room suspiciously as Mythal approached a rather strange looking bartender and asked about the name they had been given. The man replied that he was the one they were searching for, and wasted no time in revealing that this had, indeed, been a trap. With her heightened hearing, Serilda could hear every word the man said even over the dull roar of the bar, and one name in particular caught her attention. Faera. Even as the man, who advised his real name was Serethar, explained that he just wanted to talk and asked for things to not get out of hand, there was a shift in the air. For the first time probably ever in the city that was much warmer than it should have been, it got really cold. In a matter of seconds, the temperature dropped so low that everyone in the room save for Mythal and the wolves would be shivering and breathing fog from their mouths. It was such a drastic change that it caught everyone’s attention in the bar. All talking dwindled to a stop until it was so quiet that one could have heard a pin drop. No one was hurt by the spell -- yet -- but there was no mistaking that magic had been used. Then tension in the air rose immediately. The gloves were off and the jig was up much quicker than everyone in the room seemed to be expecting, but so far no one was moving. “Rash was luring the two of us out here in an attempt to trap us, and invoking a name that gives us no cause for mercy,” Serilda said, her voice a simmering and collected quiet that spelled danger for every single person in the room. Her eyes were locked on Serethar with a gaze colder than ice. The last time Faera had attempted to get at Mythal, Serilda herself had kicked in the door to Kingdom Darkness and tore it apart to save him. She would happily do it again, and the people in this room were nothing compared to what they’d faced there. “And if you’re still referring to her as ‘your’ lady, then there’s nothing ‘former’ about your association with her.” Taking a step to the side, the noblewoman didn’t even attempt to hide her action of reaching back to the entrance door and locking it. With her magic she also searched the rest of the building and nudged other locks shut in doors and windows, using her ability to manipulate molecules and ice to freeze the entries closed. Despite being heavily outnumbered, these people were going to learn one way or another that they were the ones trapped in here with her and Mythal, not the other way around. Standing in front of the door, she set her stance at ease and clasped her hands gently in front of her, alert but relaxed. Her body language was making it very clear that she wasn’t going to attack anyone yet, but it wasn’t going to take a whole lot to push her to that point. Any excuse would be a good one. Xiuhcoatl stood in front of Serilda with her haunches up, poised for action. When a man near her moved too much for her liking, she cast a dark eye at him and snarled low. The wolf could practically taste the intent in the air and was itching for Serilda to give her the go ahead to make chew toys out of everyone in the room. “Whatever you have to say, I suggest you make it quick… and that you word it very, very carefully.” Words: 1118/2054 |

Re: Too Many Surprises
I've been out there and seen the things she's made
Stupid was being overly obvious with one’s ploys. Stupid was assuming and underestimating one’s enemy -- or in this case, enemies. Stupid was leading two of the most dangerous wizards on the continent into one room and assuming that simple, verbals lies would blind them to obvious truths. Anyone who was anyone knew who Mythal and Serilda were at this point and it wasn’t just words passed through gossip and slander. No, many of the stories that was circulating the world now was of just how dangerous they could be when pushed up against wall. They had not been alone in their conquest and destruction of the dark wizard guild Crimson Fang but they had certainly not come out of the battle on the brink of death. A full scale, surprise attack may have been considered in some dark circles of the world but it had still resulted in the near extinction of an entire wizard guild. And two of the fighters right at the front of it had now been led to this very bar under false pretenses.
Serethar didn’t seem the least bit bothered by the edginess that lined the curvature of the air, nor the frost that seemed to nip and bite at any free flesh within the enclosed space. Several of the other bar patrons inhaled sharply and grit their jaws as their flesh began to cry out in sore pain from the frigid heaviness that had all of a sudden surrounded them. He continued to meet Mythal’s gaze on an even keel, while the Darkness King sighed and shook his head.
“Thought somethin’ smelled off ‘bout you. Considerin’ there ain’t no damage to this town and e’ryone in here seemed more interested in the floor than us, kinda gave away your entire secret plot,” Mythal said, placing his hands on his hips. “And Seri is right; droppin’ Faera’s name ain’t gonna exactly make us think twice about pullin’ our punches.”
Serethar nodded softly, seeming to understand. “I completely agree -- normally would be a foolhardy attempt but my mistress isn’t exactly subtle. And she was sure that, even if you were to figure out this was an attempt to entrap you, that you would proceed anyways. It seems she was correct.” He took a moment to look over at Serilda, already guarded and on edge. “Do either of you care for a drink or should we just get right down to it?”
“Say what ya gotta’ say so we can get to punchin’,” Mythal followed up quickly, just as done with the bull as Serilda was. “You have thirty seconds.”
“Swift explanation then,” Serethar said with a shrug. “I still address Faera as ‘my’ lady because for the past several millenium she has been just that. And despite my current situation, lacking in her good graces, I still provide her the due respect I’ve given her. But the fact of the matter is that I was given an order I couldn’t follow. It went against whatever counts as a morale code and I, instead, acted against it. My mistress is the one I opted to save rather than destroy like I was ordered; Vriko.” He said, his gaze snapping to Mythal. “Your sister.”
The only answer he got from Mythal was a slightly narrowing of the eyes, so he continued. “The damage to this town was used both metaphorically and literally; the earthquake was the arrival of my mistress and the damage was what the occupants had already instilled upon this place. You see, everyone in this tavern, everyone on the street, everyone in this entire icy enclosure, are members of a dark wizard guild known as the Wintry Wyverns. Quite an atrocious name, I’ll admit but my suggestion for a remedy fell on empty ears. Nonetheless, Vriko was taken as a supposed prisoner but instead slew their former leader and proclaimed herself their new master. It seems these barbarians honor strength above all other things,”
A low chuckle escaped some of the men and women in the bar, even if it was a bit pained and shuddering from the cold. “She wants you dead, Mythal Ragnos. And so I was made to lure you here, to a town full of bandits, so that they make prove their strength and loyalty to her by killing you. As for you, Lady Serilda, she does not care for so I’ve opted to give you opportunity to leave without any further danger to your livelihood. But Mythal must remain here.”
“Not a chance,” Mythal spoke up before Serilda could, turning his head just enough to look back at her. “She kicked in the door to Kingdom Darkness and took on all of your former mistress’ forces right along with me. You say Vriko don’t see her as a threat? She’ll learn to respect after she comes back and finds all of her people and you beaten to within an inch of their lives.” He shot the Voidwalker a confident smile and nodded to her. The Darkness King had never been one to play the sacrificial lamb, nor would he ever disrespect Serilda by urging her to leave. He’d tried to play that role once and all it had resulted in was the noblewoman tracking him down to another dimension and rescuing him. The God Slayer wasn’t dumb -- he wouldn’t make the same mistake twice. His gaze snapped back to Serethar. “Yer 30 seconds is up.”
“Then I must bid you farewell. Unfortunately for your attempts to dissuade my lady, my body isn’t here -- at least not fully. As a Holder of Knowledge, I’m privy to most types of magic, including Spiritual Transmission. Note that the entire town has taken up positions and the moment the fighting begins, every magical attack will be directed here. I imagine the explosion will be quite magnificent, if not terribly painful -- if only for a moment or so.” He waved his hand through his face and they watched as it simply melded against the image of him, proving he was no more than an illusory figment. “But my mistress wishes to thank you for coming and bids you a swift trip to the afterlife.” The angel bowed his head gently and then the image fizzled out.
As soon as the illusion was gone, the dark wizards started to slowly get to their feet, fighting through the cold that was attacking them from all sides. Mythal’s magic seeped out of him, embracing his form with a black and purple outline that enshrined his crimson eyes in a ring of gold. He backed up slowly until he was standing near Serilda, Gren right there by his feet. While Xiuhco was more on edge and snarling, Gren looked more determined and… even a little bit excited over the prospect of the battle. It was as if he had sensed the conflict coming and was just looking forward to getting into the heat of a fight. “So…” Mythal said as he looked around at the room. “You take the half on this side of the town, I take the other half?” He asked, flashing her a confident smirk.

Re: Too Many Surprises
"Character counts most when duty calls." Mythal was of the same mindset as her, which came as no surprise. Neither one of the slayers had a lick of trust for anyone that associated themselves with Faera, and while Mythal was a good enough man to at least give Serethar a moment to speak his piece it was not a long moment that was granted. The one eyed man got straight to business after his offer for a drink was blatantly ignored by both of them. He explained that he referred to Faera out of respect only to the vast amount of time he spent serving her, up until he was given an order that even he refused to follow. Supposedly, he was supposed to kill Vriko sometime during the chaos of everything that had happened at Kingdom Darkness. Serilda didn’t know much about Mythal’s sister; only as much as the darkness slayer himself knew, which was that she existed, that she hated Mythal vehemently, and that she wanted to kill him and steal his slaying power so that she could become the new vessel for Faera. It seemed like a ridiculous thing to want. Why would anyone willingly give up their own body to some being of untold power? Absolutely insane. Serilda couldn’t even imagine sharing her body with a creature like that. It was terrifying just to think about. Serethar went on to inform them that this wasn’t just a town, but one giant dark guild that had managed to eek a solitary living for themselves out in the frozen wastes. Even as he talked about it, Serilda reached out through the Void and noticed that, indeed, every single person outside in the town had placed themselves in readied positions facing the general direction of the bar. The name of the guild… well, it really was kind of atrocious, but that wasn’t important. The important information was that Vriko had been captured by them when she’d somehow wound up in this area after leaving Kingdom Darkness, and that she’d slaughtered their leader to become their new guildmaster. The task was clear: The entire town was set to murder Mythal in order to prove their loyalties to Vriko. That was pretty much all she needed to know. If these people revered brute strength, then they were about to have their worlds rocked, quite literally. As Serethar explained that Vriko didn’t care one way or another about Serilda and that the Voidwalker was free to leave, all she could do was let out a sarcastic snort. It was obvious by that alone that this man, as well as Vriko, had no idea what had actually happened in Kingdom Darkness. They would learn. But she certainly wasn’t going anywhere, and Mythal beat her to the punch with saying so. He had already tried playing the solo game once and it had not worked out how he’d intended. Mythal knew now exactly how far Serilda would go to stay by his side, and he simply wasn’t going to try and cut her out anymore, even with things that could be dangerous for her. Serilda did not add anything to the conversation. Mythal had said enough, as neither of them seemed keen on providing much more details. Unfortunately, it looked like Serethar wasn’t going to be sticking around for the fight. The noblewoman memorized every detail of his face, committing herself to finding this man later to deal with him. For now, however, they had bigger problems. Mythal eased back toward her as the enemies around them slowly got to their feet, moving a bit sluggish due to the cold. Wrapping her fingers around her cursed blade, Serilda drew the black weapon from its sheath slowly. There was perhaps a slight smirk on her face as Mythal playfully offered to give her one half of the town to deal with while he took the other. She shook her head a little at him. Such humor was far too cocky for her tastes, but she could appreciate it coming from Mythal as he knew that it was coming from of a place of trying to keep the mood light more than actually being arrogant. Though truthfully, either one of them could probably take this town down on their own. “It makes you wonder,” she said, not bothering to keep her voice down. “Clearly they didn’t get the memo from Archimedes, or else the last place they would have chosen to fight you and I side by side was a frozen tundra. This place is basically a source of unstoppable energy for me.” One of the men nearby snickered. “You think you’re that dangerous of an ice mage?” he asked, tilting his head back and forth to loosen up his neck for the fight. “Lady, ice mages are a dime a dozen out here, and they’re all at the peak of strength in this climate. You two can’t possibly expect to wipe out an entire city on your own, especially when we have so many that specialize in the element that surrounds us.” Serilda narrowed her eyes at his man. “Perhaps you do. But because your ignorant new leader was too hasty to get all her facts before striking out on us, she has put all of you in grave danger. You may have a plethora of ice mages, but that means absolutely nothing when all your ice belongs to me.” In a single motion, the noblewoman twisted her foot across the floor. From the epicenter of her foot the ice on the ground began to turn black, the dark shift rippling out in all directions indiscriminately. Everything that was made of ice or snow turned black as night, and it a matter of only a second or two the entire bar was black. Through the windows they could see that the phenomenon stretched out beyond their building, as others also were washed over in the new color. The people in the town would gasp in surprise and concern as their entire city even past the great wall that surrounded it turned into ominous, unholy ice. “Be careful with your strikes,” Serilda suggested to Mythal while the men and women in the room shifted themselves in preparation to strike, trying to ignore the sudden feeling of trepidation building within them. “There are children in this city. Lots of them.” She wouldn’t have to say more than that. Despite this town apparently being one massive dark guild, the children here were not guilty of anything, and did not deserve to be punished like their parents -- or to lose their parents because of his sister’s idiocy. Squaring herself off, she raised the point of her sword to a middle guard and set her feet in a practiced stance. “This is your last chance,” she told those around them. “Walk away and save yourselves the humiliation. This quarrel does not involve you.” Words: 1180/3234 |

Re: Too Many Surprises
I've been out there and seen the things she's made
It wasn’t a great situation. Mythal spoke out of confidence, if only to assure everyone around them that they weren't prepared for what was about to happen. And there wasn’t a singular doubt in his mind that he and Serilda would be able to handle the entirety of this town when push came to shove. And if it was true that every single person in here was some kind of bandit, there was going to be a lot of pushing and shoving. But that didn’t make the situation any easier or remove the danger to their lives. Even the most talented, coordinated warriors could be felled by one wrong step or movement. And with four against a far greater number, odds weren’t exactly in their favor.
But there were plenty of other things working for them; the entire town was made of ice, an element that Serilda had near mastered control over. Though there was no doubt that all of the people here had adapted to the cold -- some probably magically as well -- there was very little chance they would be dealing with anyone as strong as the Voidwalker. Any unless someone here was solely focused on magic involving speed, they would have a very hard time hitting him. He wasn’t bragging as he casually mentioned that she could take on a portion of the town while he handled the other -- he was, just as she assumed, an attempt to keep the mood uplifted. They were facing a dreary battle ahead and the last thing he wanted was them to feel overwhelmed from the start.
Though that kind of bravado would only make Serilda roll her eyes -- and she did, in a manner of speaking -- it was enough to keep their confidence up. The noblewoman spoke loud enough to him, though it definitely seemed more like she was addressing the crowd around them. It was another warning to them; engaging them would not end in their benefit. It seemed her warning fell on completely deaf ears, as one of the men chuckled at her. It seemed the rest of the patrons of the bar were starting to adapt to the sudden chill that had overtaken the room, their natural affinity to the world helping against Serilda’s air. It was humorous in a way; to think that they believed this was the extent of her magical ability and reach. They chastised their confidence, stating that ice magic was as common as snow in these parts. They seemed to believe that was tipped the scales in their favor.
Serilda was quick to correct him, explaining slowly and coldly that it didn’t really matter how many ice mages they had on their side. Vriko’s hairbrained scheme had put them all in a very dangerous path by setting them against Mythal and Serilda. As if to stamp the point across, she claimed their kingdom of ice as her own. Only a breath after she twisted her foot and the ice on the ground, in the ceiling, in the furniture that the brigands had stepped away from, began to turn an inky black. Everyone within the room jumped back, even as the lack of color filled in underneath their feet. The concerned noises stretched out to all the people that were fortified outside, all in position to attack but quickly jumping up and out as their icy barricades were transformed.
“Jeez, and I thought I sounded pretentious,” Mythal smirked quickly, his last show of amusement before his face settled into something more serious. He scoffed and shook his head as Serilda alerted him to the fact that their were children in the city. “They lured us here and didn’t even get the kids out?” He hissed between clenched teeth. Now he was angry, his magic energy brimming to the surface even as the air’s tension grew thick and heavy around them. The crowd around them were already getting into a guarded position, every single one of them ready to attack at the slightest drop. Serilda issued one final warning, telling them to stand down. But by the look of them all, it didn’t seem that was going to fly.
“You warned ‘em,” was all he said before he reared his fist up and then slammed it down into the ground. The immediate cracks were bad enough but the darkness that flowed out from Mythal’s limb quickly filled the room, swallowing up the brigands that had just jerked forward in motion to attack. The cloud of black smog exploded out through the windows, leaked through the walls and ceiling and spread out to fill up the entire town. If the black ice had been a shock, the sudden emergence of the darkness was enough to draw out cries of anguish and fear. Once it had overtaken half of the town, it came to an abrupt end and molded itself into a clear dome, rising above many of the ice structures.
“I’ll get the kids.”There were no more words to speak. The Darkness King rushed forward, slamming his fist into the closest dark wizard. The force of the strike sent him spiraling through the wall and into the street beyond. The sound of the crash caused the other dark wizards to panic and start slinging magic every which way. For in the dome of darkness, all they could see was just that; endless, mindless black that would disorient them. Their sense of hearing would be heightened but all that did was serve to terrify them more. The God Slayer leapt through the opening, leaving the rest of the bar for Serilda, as he rolled into the streets and looked about. Every single wizards and barbarian was throwing attacks every which way, several spells slamming into allies and knocking them down. Cycling his magic through his body at full force, Mythal moved through the crowd, his senses seeking the smaller figures in the dark realm in hopes of getting them out first.
Then the culling could commence.

Re: Too Many Surprises
"Character counts most when duty calls." They never surrendered. Why did they never surrender? For once, Serilda would like to see someone come to their senses and back down from a fight that was going to end poorly for them. But the dark mages stood their ground, and for that at least she had to respect them. Even if the people she fought had different views and morals than her, Serilda would always acknowledge an enemy that stood by their convictions rather than being easily shaken. Mythal was equally as angry about the children as Serilda was, but it wasn’t exactly the mages’ fault; they probably weren’t made fully aware of just what they were up against. If they had been, perhaps they would have taken proper precautions in regard to their younger generations. Then, the real fighting started. Or at least, if one could call it that. Mythal slammed his fist into the ground and cracked it. Darkness spewed forth from the crevasse and filled the building in a snap. Her lover took only a second long enough to advise that he’d handle the safety of the children in the town before he was off slamming his fist into practically everything around him. He tumbled into the street and took off. For her part, Serilda was not hampered at all by the fact that the world around them was quite literally nothing but pure blackless. With her Void Sense, she was keenly aware of everything around her even if her eyes could not pick up their shapes or locations. Thankfully, due to the nature of Mythal’s magic the wolves were also able to ascertain everything around them. “Angribe,” Serilda told her companion before stepping forward and slicing the edge of her blade across the tendons of someone’s knees. As her target dropped to the floor and screamed in agony, Xiuh launched herself forward. She made quick work of anyone that came close enough in range for her snapping jaw to reach, dragging enemies to the ground and biting them viciously until they were incapacitated. The wolf was intelligent enough not to kill or bite anywhere fatal without the proper command word, which Serilda rarely ever gave, and had never given for a human target. The last thing the noblewoman ever wanted to do was kill people she didn’t have to. Which was why her strikes here were focused and precise. At least, the strikes that she needed to make. Truthfully the occupants of the bar -- and from the sounds outside, the rest of the town -- were so panicked that they were just firing off their magic at random and hitting each other. Serilda was starting to think they weren’t even going to have to try too hard to pacify the situation; the locals were doing most of the hard work for them. Still, it would be unwise for her to let her guard down. There was an infinite amount of magics in the world, and any number of them could easily counter the things that Mythal and Serilda were capable of. Once the people in the bar were all laid out and nursing their wounds, Serilda moved outside. She took a moment to gauge Mythal’s location, trying to see how many children were left to secure in a danger free zone. Thankfully, the other slayer was exceptionally fast these days. His speed had increased exponentially through his training, and nowadays if it weren’t for her Void Sense Serilda was sure that she wouldn’t see him at all at times when he moved. By the time she’d made her way outside, he had already evacuated all the kids in her immediate area, enough that she could probably use a few of her larger spells without putting any little ones at risk. A violent wind picked up around her, tossing people around like ragdolls until they slammed into the sides of frozen buildings, where they fell unconscious. Serilda hardly even broke her stride as she moved through the streets, allowing her magic to passively take care of the vast majority of enemies while she kept an eye out for anyone that looked like they may be navigating the fray better than they should be. It wasn’t long before she came across a man with a rod that glowed with a brilliant white light. Most of the light was eaten away by the magical darkness, but it did give him enough illumination that he could make out things immediately around him. He caught sight of Serilda and immediately launched a spell at her. If one could call it that. Breathing in deep, he screamed at her. Sonic waves pulsed so hard around her body that she could feel it like a rumbling base thudding in her head. She instinctively covered her ears and shrank back, momentarily rattled from the shock. With a growl, Serilda retaliated with her Dead Space. The complete silence was almost as deafening as the man’s sonic attack had been, but her head started to clear pretty quickly. The man had an absolute panic attack at the loss of any sound. His magic had been rendered completely useless, and frankly so had many others whose spells relied on verbal incantations. Reaching into the Void, she thinned the air around her until there was barely enough oxygen to breathe. The dark mages clutched their throats and fell to their knees gasping desperately in an attempt to fill their lungs. As they struggled, she walked around to each of them and cracked the pommel of her sword over their heads to knock them out. This entire fight was starting to feel more like a chore than anything else. Aside from the sheer numbers they were up against, so far there really didn’t seem to be too many mages of note or people that could actually pose a threat. That only made Serilda more suspicious of this whole situation. Surely Vriko knew that it would take more than a town full of mediocre wizards to take down her brother, let alone the two of them together. This whole situation was starting to feel almost too easy, and that was setting her on edge again. There had to be some type of ulterior aim here that she’d yet to figure out, or maybe there were some exceptionally powerful wizards stowing themselves away until Mythal and Serilda drained themselves a bit more and wouldn’t be as difficult of targets. Maybe this was all just a set up to make it look as though they had indiscriminately wiped out an entire town, thought from what little Serilda understood of Vriko that didn’t seem to be the woman’s style. Despite everything, Mythal’s sister seemed to be more of a direct approach kind of woman, which was exactly what made this whole situation so odd. Why lure Mythal here, but not be present herself to beat him, Serilda wondered? Why make these people get involved, ninety five percent of which didn’t have enough power to even hurt the two of them, let alone beat them in a fight? Something was wrong here, but she didn’t really have a whole lot of time to try and think through it. Every other second was filled with the swing of her sword here or a lashing out of her foot there. Dozens of enemies surrounded her at any given moment, and if she didn’t want to accidentally get blasted by a stray spell she needed to be focusing on taking people down. Words: 1251/4485 |

Re: Too Many Surprises
I've been out there and seen the things she's made
Darkness wasn’t just tough to see through -- it was almost impossible. Anyone that wasn’t prepared for the cursed magic that Mythal could summon up was caught in the nightmare of their vision fading to black. And like any normal person when they were stuck in a dark space with no light around, they began to panic. Even as flashes of fire and ice tore through the bleak atmosphere around them, they didn’t seem to manage to create any illumination or color. Perhaps that was why so many people wound up throwing spells at their neighbors, latching their bodies to the ground with frost or lighting their clothing on fire. And feeling that pain caused the targeted to panic and counterattack. Within a few short moments, Mythal had created utter chaos throughout the affected area. For anyone else, this would seem like a challenge; with spells flying everywhere, it was going to be hard to avoid.
It wasn’t for the Darkness King though. Wings of darkness emerged from his back and he took to the skies, swiftly soaring through the air and interweaving between shots of magical essence. He split his focus evenly -- part of his senses focusing on the incoming attacks and the other rooting through the several moving, shaking, panicking bodies. Now that more than half the town was caught in the dark, he could figure out everyone’s shake and form easily and from that, he was able to discern who were the adults and who were the kids. He dipped down and landed right outside a short but large ice structure, apparently some kind of gathering place for this clan of barbarians. His foot slammed into the door and knocked it in, eliciting frightened screams from the children huddled inside.
There were a lot, just like Serilda had said; they had gathered together in the corner of the large room, all differing in age but equally as frightened. There was no guaranteeing that this was all of them either. Mythal’s eyes snapped across the way. There were two men standing at the other entrance across from him, having leapt around to face the sound of the breaking in door. They waved their arms in front of them, helplessly trying to find some kind of solid foundation to grab. The Darkness King easily moved past them, not bothering to attack them so not to terrify the kids anymore or chance these idiots loosing a spell in their direction.
There wasn’t much time to run each of them outside the city limits and make it back before the darkness spell faded. And he wasn’t going to leave Serilda alone with that mess. His senses connected to the dark around him, tasting the Kingdom Darkness connection while also simultaneously expanding all the way back to Era. Though it was the first time he had attempted such a thing, he focused his magic into one spot, right where the kids were all huddled in the corner. He felt a shiver in the air, then a small vibration that was quickly swallowed up by the walls of reality tearing open. A darkness portal, crafted out of the black screen around them, opened up right around the children and pulled them in. The kids would have a moment of panic, followed by the sensation they were being sucked into some kind of vacuum that would end with them falling into the training yards of the Rune Knights. Several of the Knights training there stopped immediately as they looked over at the suddenly appearing children, recognizing the portal as the Special Operations General’s. As they rushed over to tend to the frightened kids, Mythal ensured that he had gotten them all before he cut off the connection and closed the portal completely.
“Good to know,” he mumbled to himself. If it hadn’t worked, he would have had to seek out a dark point nearby and use that. Either that or he would have had to barricade the kids inside and return to the battle. At least this way, the largest gathering of them were somewhere far away and out of danger. But the God Slayer certainly wasn’t; even as he muttered the words, he could see the darkness in the room beginning to weaken. He had siphoned off of that spell and thus had taken a portion of its strength within the immediate area. As he looked around, he could see that the utter darkness had become more of a smog -- and not a very dense one. That also meant that the two men in the room could see, albeit with some difficulty.
“Not so good.” The God Slayer heard a gasp as he spun around, one of the dark wizards having turned curiously. He charged, swinging his mace up into an attack position. Mythal was quick to dodge with a side step and an arm movement that pushed the incoming weapon attack away and caused the man to stumble. As Mythal turned to face the other man, he was suddenly blasted by an invisible force from the man’s hands. All at once, he felt his magical connection cut off -- like someone had shoved a temporary lid on it. The pressure continued to push onto him, like a wet blanket that clung to his entire body. Sapping magic; that was clever.
Unfortunately for this particular dark wizard, simply cutting off his magic wasn’t enough. Even as the man let his lips twitch with a smirk, confidence beginning to build up in his core, Mythal dashed forward, planting himself right in front of the dark wizard. Before he could even wonder about how much of a mistake it was, knuckles from a rising fist buried into his chin, his head was snapped upward and the man was sent flying through the ceiling like someone had strapped him to a rocket. Mythal looked through the hole he had made with the man’s body, watching his body flip over itself as it disappeared out of sight.
He could hear the other man from behind, having adjusted himself and starting to charge again. As he was twisting, he was already preparing to counter another swing and this time to plant the other dark wizard into the floorboards. But before he could even make a full turn, a voice spoke up out of nowhere.
“Ah ah ah; not so fast there, fly boy,” came the overly confident tone. And even before the words could truly nestle in either pairs of ears within the room, a figment made of pure light burst into existence right in front of Mythal and slammed into the charging dark wizard. There was a sickening crunch as each of the dark wizard’s ribs snapped, along with his chest bone, and he was sent crashing into the wall, ragdolling across the wooden barrier before slamming loudly and hard into the ground.
All Mythal could do was stare, his eyes wide as he looked at the luminous figure. More and more detail began to take form before a fully developed man stood before him. He was lacking in color, looking more like he was made of mud more than anything else. He was on the thin but developed side, much like Mythal, but his stance had far more confidence and arrogance. He was wearing a short duster jacket of sorts, with the collar flipped and opened onto his shoulders. A vest covered a button down shirt underneath that, followed by a pair of slacks on his legs. The development of his form seemed to fade out at the bottom of his legs, removing his feet from existence and making him look more ghost-like. His face was… overly handsome, with a perfectly square chin and sharp jawline. Small tabs of light were attached to his face; one on his chin and two on his forehead. His hair was well kept and brushed to fade to the side, making him look business professional.
“Oh my GOD, it feels so good to stretch my legs!” The figure said, rolling his shoulders one after the other. “You ever get stuck in a tight closet space and you just cannot move at all? That -- that was my existence for so long. But now I’m free, baby -- finally free!”
“What the hell… who the hell are you?!” Mythal demanded, taking a step back.
The figure turned its empty gaze to him, as if just noticing him. “There he is, the man of the hour. Jeez, you’d think a guy would find a way to have his magic shut off sooner so I can finally get out from that cesspit you call a soul,” the figure said with a laugh. “I’m sorry, that was mean -- but really, your soul is just like… ink black. And gross. And kind of musty. Eck." He made a sound that made it very clear he was disgusted. “But I didn’t answer your question, my bad; I’ve been cooped up for a long time and I’m understandably excited.” The man cleared his throat and adjusted his poise, taking on a more serious demeanor. “I… am your conscious.”
Mythal narrowed his eyes. “My… consi-”
Before he could finish his sentence, the man burst out laughing, bending over frontways and slapping his hand on his leg. “Oh I could not keep that up. Y’know, I thought about coming out with the whole ‘I am your father’ stance but that felt a little too overplayed. Hoo, that was good. I forgot how funny I could be when I say things outside of my head.” As he stood back up to full height, the man grinned. “How ya’ doin’ there, sweetheart. The name's Lux and you… just hit the payday.”
Re: Too Many Surprises
"Character counts most when duty calls." Even with her stamina, this was getting tiring. There were literally hundreds of people in this town and all of them were trying to kill her. Between her magic, her sword, and her senses -- as well as Mythal’s darkness -- she was able to keep ahead of them but it was taking a whole lot of time and focus. Serilda’s swords were both enhanced with magic that would drain the target of either their health or their power, which was fantastic when she was fighting senseless beasts or other such creatures that could not be reasoned with. However, when it came to living people she always had to be especially careful of how she fought otherwise she could kill someone without intending to. She did not want to do that today. Yes these people were trying to murder the two of them, but only because they had been manipulated into it by Vriko. They were dark mages, but Serilda wasn’t in the habit of just outright murdering dark mages unless she had no other choice. So on she waded through the bodies stumbling in the darkness, doing her best to aim her strikes meticulously while also trying not to get hit by stray spells and weapons. A man fell back toward her and she shifted the molecules in her body to let him fall through her. He slapped the ground hard and before he could get back up Serilda kicked him hard in enough in the face to knock him out. An exasperated sigh sounded in her ear. Why do you insist on sparing them, girl? Serilda spun, trying to find the source of the voice. She couldn’t feel the presence of anyone near her, nor could she see anyone through the allowance Mythal’s magic made for her eyes. If she couldn’t find them with her Void Sense it meant the person didn’t have a physical body, which was a big problem. Serilda specialized in space magic, so things that were not a part of the material world were almost impossible for her to battle without the proper tools. “Call it a moral high ground. Why don’t you come on out and show your face instead of hiding like a coward?” The voice chuckled. Be careful what you wish for, child. You might get more than you bargain for. Frowning, the Voidwalker strained her ears as she listened to the voice, trying to locate it. It was a female, with a big of rough weathering in her tone that gave Serilda the impression she was on the older side. But these details were not what caught the noblewoman’s attention. As the other woman spoke, Serilda realized the sounds wasn’t near her.. It was in her head. “Telepathy, is it?” she asked, focusing on her Void sense and feeling around for anyone that might be communicating with her from further away. “I don’t know who you are, but I can promise you I’ve faced worse than you. So how about you stop skulking about and put some bite to your bark?” Very well, the woman said, a hint of exasperation in her amused voice. Just remember that you asked for it. Serilda cried out and fell to her knees as a sudden, splitting headache exploded between her ears. Her body began to twitch violently, and her limbs were attempting to move without her say so. It felt as though there was someone inside of her trying to take over. What sort of magic was this?! She grit her teeth and lost all focus on the world around her. The battle raged on with dark mages fighting against one another in a panic in the dark, oblivious to the fact that their real enemy was in a place of exceptional vulnerability. Xiuhcoatl danced around her human anxiously, overwhelmed by the emotions coming through their bond and pained by the struggle that Serilda was currently enduring. The wolf whimpered and fussed and yipped, unsure of what to do. The hound didn’t know what was going on, but she knew it was bad. Raising her muzzle to the air, she howled long and loud over and over trying to get the attention of Mythal or Gren. “Get out my head!” Serilda screamed, her voice hoarse as she fought a desperate mental battle for control over her own body. I did warn you. Serilda’s sword arm raised shakily, turning like it was going to run through the form of the man beside her that she’d knocked out only moments ago. “NO!” The noblewoman grabbed her arm with her free hand, trying to push it down and away from the helpless man. She grunted and grimaced, sweat pouring down her face as she desperately tried to fight back whatever was happening to her. The woman was in a state of sheer terror. Never before had seen been attacked like this, and she didn’t know how to fight against it. “What the hell kind of magic is this?!” The woman laughed again. You still haven’t put it together. Do not associate me with these base creatures you call a dark mage. I am not one of them. In fact, I have been here longer than you know, and while you are a worthy vessel I grow tired of watching you squander our potential with your pointless code of honor. So I think I’ll just take it from here. A sudden wave of great power surged through Serilda’s body and snapped her head back until she was practically bent backward. The pain was so great that she couldn’t even see, and she shrieked at the top of her lungs. Her body began to change. Serilda’s face began to age and weather, light wrinkles forming on her skin around her eyes, cheeks, and lips. Her white hair broke free of its bun where it fell loose about her shoulders for only a moment before parts of it began to lift and shape themselves almost into horns, two on either side of her head, each one bound by a maroon colored ribbon that seemed to appear out of nowhere. A set of studded leather armor of the same color shimmered into existence over her clothes. It covered her torso from her hips to her neck, with a triangle of cleavage exposed. Great black feathers sprouted from the armor like pauldrons, shimmering with blue and green highlights. Silver plated armor in the form of vambraces and greaves reached up the length of her arms and legs. Upon her forehead, a spiked, steel circlet like a crown adorned her. Slowly, the shaking of her body stopped as the struggle for dominance ended. Once blue eyes opened to reveal a golden hue. Victoria straightened herself out and stood slowly to her feet in the body that had only moments ago belonged to Serilda Sinclair. “Yes, this is much better,” the older woman said to herself. Picking up Malice from the ground, she gave the black scimitar a couple test swings. She also withdrew Moonlight from its hilt with her freehand. “Honestly, why carry two swords if you’re not going to use them both?” Once she had made herself comfortable, Victoria took a step or two until she was looming over the fallen man on the ground. Without hesitation, she raised the dark blade and thrust it straight through his heart. “You are an excellent warrior, girl, but you have much to learn about winning a war. And all these skills of yours left untapped from your own ignorance… really, it shames me to know I’ve been housed in such a waste.” A low growling sound caught the woman’s attention and she turned to look at Xiuhcoatl. The wolf was uncertain of herself. She could still smell Serilda on the woman; after all, it was Serilda’s body, just warped to look like someone else. Her senses were warring with one another. “You’re a well trained hound. At least in that respect, this mortal did not fail. From now on, you operate under my command… A reality I am sure I will need to beat into you somehow. But first, I have other priorities.” In a blink, she disappeared from her spot in the darkness of the town and reappeared in the sky over the part of the city that wasn’t shrouded in darkness. With both swords poised and ready, Victory dove down to the surface… ...and then the bloodshed began. Words: 1443/5928 |

Whatever this… Lux… was expecting from announcing himself so casually, it didn’t work. All Mythal did was stare back at him, his eyes sizing him up slowly as he remained standing across from him. The figure of light had struck a pose, holding his arms out to the side as if he was presenting himself for praise, glory or some kind of recognition. It was a tense, quiet few seconds before Lux’s cocky grin twitched and he jerked his head sideways curiously. “Now c’mon kid; I know this is a big deal for you but I need a little somethin’ here. A gasp, a clapping of the hands, a girly squeal of excitement -- I’ll take anythin’ right about now.”
“What do you mean I hit the ‘payday’? And why are you presentin’ yourself like I should know who you are?”
Lux’s lips sputtered before he released a hard, gut wrenching laugh. Once more he made a show of it, clapping his hands on his legs and stomping his feet into the ground. Despite the fact that every sensation in his body was telling him to watch this… thing carefully, he hadn’t forgotten about the battling outside. Time was ticking onwards and though many of them were cast in darkness right now, there were still a lot for Serilda to handle herself. He cast a quick glance over his shoulder at the door he had come through, feeling the sensations of the brigands moving about his darkness. He’d need to get moving sooner rather than later.
But that meant getting some answers. He kept his guard up for now, even as Lux managed to calm himself down, holding up a single hand with one finger extended, essentially asking for a moment. As he stood back up, he waved his hand at his face, as if to dry imaginary tears. “That was good, kid. Pretending like you don’t know me -- that got me right back.”
“I don’t know you. I ain’t ever heard of any ‘Lux’ before in my entire life,” Mythal spat back, annoyed by the presumption.
This time Lux didn’t laugh. His smile twitched once more, his face twisting in confusion. “Wait wait wait… wait a damn minute. You don’t know about me? Lux? Lux the All Shining? Lux the Luminous?” With each question, his tone got sharper, a bit more erratic. It was like Mythal had struck a true chord within the man, which he had unintentionally. When the Darkness King shook his head, Lux scoffed, his gaze trailing idly away and across the wall. “My meat suit doesn’t know about me. That’s great -- friggin’ fantastic. I get not knowing what I look like but my name?” He twisted fully around to face the barbarian that he had unceremoniously slammed into the wall. In three short steps he was above him and with a quick bend and snap, he had yanked the damage brigand up by his neck. “Hey, you… what does the name Lux mean to you?”
“I… ah…” The man gasped out, a mixture of bodily pain and esophagus clenching hindering him from speaking.
“Speak up, short bus, my patience is already pretty thin and if you push it any farther, I may stop bein’ so nice!” Lux hissed between clenched teeth, adjusting his fingers so the man could, at the very least, speak.
“I… never heard of… no Lux…” He managed to get out, coughing as fresh air entered his lungs ago.
Lux growled loudly and shook his head. “This isn’t right. There should be stories, songs, friggin’ poems about my brillance. Everyone should know exactly who I am. Unless… something must have gone wrong. That’s it -- maybe our stories have been hidden away on purpose. How dare they think they have any right to shovel my glorious existence into a shallow grave and just--” Lux stopped grumbling as his eyes reset on the man still in his grip. “The hell am I doing talking to you anymore?” And with a quick jerk of his hand, he snapped the barbarian’s neck and tossed him aside.
“Hey!” Mythal roared, thrusting his hand forward in an attempt to take control of his darkness and slam it into Lux. Of course, nothing happened -- his magic was still temporarily locked off. Growling audibly, he took several steps forward and got in the man’s face. “Why the hell did you do that? He was unarmed, defeated already.”
Lux looked at Mythal, confused. “What? Who are…? Oh, you mean him?” Lux asked, putting two and two together and pointing down at the dead dark wizard. “Who cares about him? He is… was… a bandit. Worse; he was a regular ol’ human. You sent his friend flying through the ceiling not five minutes ago.”
“He didn’t give me a choice. Otherwise I would have simply knocked him out,” Mythal snapped back.
“Wow, all that strength and power to keep me buried down and you turn out to be a wuss. Isn’t that just my luck…” His voice trailed off as he looked past Mythal, his face lighting up a bit. “Wait a damn minute, is that…? Hah!” His annoyance gone, Lux laughed and walked right through Mythal, phasing through his body as if he was a ghost. “What are the chances of that?” He continued his thoughts, staring past the walls of the structure and out into the battle beyond. He turned enough to look at Mythal. “Let’s go, meat suit. I’ll give you the short and skinny on the way.” He summoned Mythal, waving his hand before he turned and walked through the wall of the building.
Mythal, not wanting to let Lux out of his sight, quickly dashed through the door he had entered previously and back into the dark fray. Several of the dark wizards had thrown themselves on the ground, giving up on trying to see or move through the dark and hoping that going prone would protect them. Lux served as a beacon, a bright light among the dark that moved among them. But he didn’t avoid walking over them, stepping on limbs and practically snapping them off with each footfall. The pained cries of those impacted only served to frighten the men and women on the ground further. The Darkness King swiftly caught up to Lux as he leisurely strolled along.
“So here’s the deal, Mythal -- terrible name by the way. Long long ago, God -- big G -- created everything. Light, life and everything in between. But he also created us, the Seals, in case his little experiments got a little too out of hand. He gives the word, we glass all of reality and he gets a pretty, blank new canvas to try again. Problem was, we weren’t exactly bred to stand on our own two feet, if you catch my drift. God was worried that we’d probably go ahead and start the end times before he hit that big red button. Justifiably I might add -- I was ready to squash everything almost immediately. I mean c’mon, look at this place,” Lux explained, waving to… everything. “Abusing and mutating my element like an abusive dad. Anyway, we couldn’t live without vessels and we couldn’t stay in heaven because dad’s a dick and decided to make us evenly -- ala demon and angel blood.” As the Seal spoke, he continued to walk, moving seemingly out of instinct rather than any profound planning.
“So instead, he offers us to seven different mortal filth families. With each new child born, we were passed on, lying deep within your souls, unresponsive but still absorbing from the world around us. Might explain why I look and talk like this. Then again, I am the embodiment of light -- the ultimate element. And we would have remained as such if it weren’t for…” Lux drifted off as he came to a stop. Before Mythal could speak up, Lux leapt up and onto the roof of the closest building, his gaze upwards. The God Slayer followed him, his wings snapping into existence to fly him up before fading away. The Darkness King followed his gaze upward and his brow furrowed at the sight of… a woman. Even through the darkness he could make her form out, wielding two weapons.
“Who the hell is that?” He asked, apparently stuck on repeat with his queries.
Lux grinned, a wicked smile that held no good omen in it. “Victoria. That crazy bitch is here too.”
“What is she…?” Mythal started to ask.
“Shh shh shh,” Lux shushed him, wagging a finger in his face. “Just watch. This is gonna be funny.”

Re: Too Many Surprises
"Character counts most when duty calls." For quite some time, now, Victoria had been silently watching within her vessel. She had been observing the woman and learning her magic and mannerisms, absorbing her skills and the methods with which they were utilized. The noblewoman had worked hard to create exceptional skills for her magic, but had stunted herself in many places -- or so Victoria believed. The girl was woefully ignorant of her heritage and the power it gave her, and the First Seal had grown tired of watching her squander talent by showing mercy to those who arguably didn’t deserve it. It was time for Victoria to start calling the shots. With both of Serilda’s scimitars in hand, the older woman dive bombed toward the surface. In a single, swift motion, she used the swords to cut down two lines of dark mages. Unable to see her in the darkness, the targets were completely unprepared to handle themselves as she viciously cut them in half, their torsos falling to the ground separately from their legs. They died with looks of pure shock on their faces, their eyes and mouths still moving momentarily as they desperately tried to comprehend what had just happened to them before their souls departed from their bodies for good. A yipping sound was heard across the way as Xiuhcoatl finally caught up to the woman. The wolf was confused and conflicted. She continued to bark at growl at Victoria, circling her and pacing around her with uncertainty. The hound knew that this was still Serilda’s body, but that it definitely was not Serilda in control, and was having difficulty knowing whether or not she should attack. “If you’re going to follow me around, mongrel, make yourself useful. I would rather not kill you, but I will if you get in my way.” Before Xiuh could retaliate, the older woman was already off again. She disappeared from her spot and reappeared again several meters away, jamming Malice up through a man’s head beneath his jaw. Before he could drop to the ground dead, she teleported away and appeared next to another woman that was trying to run away. Slipping Moonlight’s glowing blade between the woman’s legs she tripped her up, causing her to fall on the weapon and cleave herself horridly up to her chest. Victoria teleported several more times, utilizing Serilda’s connection to the Void to warp the space of the world around her such that she could merely step from one location and land several meters away. Each time she appeared, another person died. Blood dripped from both swords and sprayed upon her armor, though it was difficult to see due to the already red color of the leather. It was a veritable slaughter, and she barely even stopped to deign her attention upon those she slew before she killed them. When she decided it was time to test a bit of magic for herself. A black glyph appeared in the sky, invisible to those unfortunate souls that would feel the brunt of the spell’s wrath but seen by Mythal and those connected to him. The darkness slayer would not be able to mistake the design of the glyph that perfectly matched Serilda’s magic, nor the spell that was birthed from it. A violent snow storm fell from the glyph in the form of black snow that churned and whipped ferociously about the city. Dozens of people screamed in terror as they were lifted up into the air and tossed about like ragdolls, their bodies slamming fatally into the thick walls of ice that made up the buildings around them. As the storm died down, Victoria’s eye finally turned to fall upon the slayer. Or rather, his bright companion. “So are you just going to stand there, Lux, or are you going to do something to merit that ego of yours?” she asked him tartly, though there was a slight edge of biting humor to her gravelly voice. Her yellow gaze turned fully to Mythal, sizing him up with a somewhat bored expression. But then she frowned slightly before letting out a small cackle of a laugh. “A darkness mage?” She didn’t seem to be mocking Mythal so much as Lux, oddly enough. “Oh my. How ironic. I am quite sure the other Seals will rather enjoy hearing about this. The great, all shining Lux, incarnation of light itself… trapped inside a body of darkness! Whatever shall the historians think?” Words: 755/6683 |

DARK
The woman identified as Victoria dove with such speed and finesse that she was more like a hawk swooping in for the kill. Mythal and Lux stood there, watching in equal parts shocked and amused, as she came soaring down and decimated a dozen or so dark wizards in one equally balanced strike. It was a completely unfair culling; the dark mages were as blind as bats and many of them had only the opportunity to hear the approaching body before their lives were brought to a quick and sudden end. Mythal jerked forward instinctively, agitated by the senseless brutality. But Lux’s hand came out and pressed against his chest, surprisingly strong and enough to keep him in place. “Easy there, kid. Let the woman do her work; trust me, she’s been thirsting for this for a long time,” Lux quipped with a grin.
“These people may be dark wizards but they ain’t capable of puttin’ up a fight. She is slaughterin’ them,” the Darkness King snapped, reaching up and smacking the hand off of him.
Lux scoffed. “So?” He asked, the question clearly rhetorical. “You just said it yourself -- these guys are bad guys. Whether they can fight back or not, they’ve done some bad things. Better to cut off the fat so you enjoy the rest of the steak, right? Fat being their useless corpses and steak being happiness and life and all that crap.”
Mythal may have countered further but the sharp sound of a hound yipping caught his attention. He watched as Xiuhco charged into the dark towards the mysterious woman and immediately his blood ran cold. Was the Star Wolf attacking this woman? Had she hurt Serilda? But before he moved, he could hear the woman talking to the hound, chastising it for following her. Far more interesting was the fact that Xiuhco didn’t immediately charge in and start mauling the woman, clearly in some kind of agitation. The exchange was short and then Victoria was gone, warping away to continue her decimation.
Mythal pursed his lips and whistled sharply, the sound echoing through the ice town. A responsive wuff answered him and within moments he could hear Gren charging through the streets. Ever since their battle in Kingdom Darkness, Mythal had trained the growing Star Wolf to be more aggressive than defensive. Xiuhco hung close to Serilda and if Mythal had his way, Gren would do something similar. But he was different from his sister; far more interested in fighting and exploring on his own terms and then returning to the God Slayer. So he’d worked up a series of whistles and other noises and phrases that allow the Star Wolf the opportunity to do his own thing but still be on beck and call should it be needed. It seemed unnecessary at best -- the hound always seemed to know when he was needed and, no doubt, he had already been running back upon sensing Mythal’s emotions.
He pushed past Lux, leaping down off the building and heading straight to Xiuhco. As Gren rounded a corner and came sliding in beside his sister, Mythal knelt down in front of the older Star Wolf. “Xiuhco, where’s Seri?” he asked quietly, doing his best to ignore the sounds of agony coming from the people around him.
“D’aw,” Lux said from beside him, having apparently come down from the roof… or perhaps just reappearing there. If he was telling the truth about their connection and Mythal being a vessel, that meant that he technically went wherever the God Slayer did. That wasn’t disconcerting or anything. “You have pets, that’s adorable. And look at their blood covered cheeks; aren’t you just the cutest pair of killing machines around?” Lux said, smiling amusingly between the two Star Wolves.
“Ignore him. Where is Seri?” he quietly and calmly asked Xiuhco, not allowing himself to get pushed and pressed by the Seal.
“Seri, Seri, Seri… wait…” Lux tapped his finger against his chin as he pondered the name. Like Victoria, he had been awake for quite some time but had been unfortunately trapped beneath Mythal’s abundance of dark magic. While he was a Seal of Light and certainly was stronger than such things, waking hadn’t exactly come with a ticket of one hundred percent awareness. All he could do was lie in wait, watching beneath the dark pools and listening to the world around him. Unfortunately for him, he viewed most things in the material, mortal world as beneath him. But there was something about that name… “She that… white haired woman you’re always hanging around with? Or rather, banging around with?”
Mythal whirled on Lux, already back on his feet before the Seal could speak further. Despite being a light figment, it seemed that Mythal’s anger in the moment had broken through the blocking spell on his magic. He took hold of Lux’s shirt easily and yanked him towards the Darkness King, surprising the Seal. “Whoa there, tiger. I don’t kiss on the first date,” Lux protested, chuckling.
“Where is she, smartass?” Mythal growled between his clenched teeth.
That made Lux full out laugh. “You mean you missed the resemblance? Or did you just ignore everything I just said like five minutes ago? Us Seals need a vessel to attach ourselves to. I got you and Victoria… well, she may have aged your beau a couple of years but…”
Realization struck Mythal like a lightning bolt. “You… mean?” He mumbled, his eyes twisting through the darkness to try and find Victoria. He managed to catch her just in time for her to unveil the magical glyph, one that he knew as one that Serilda could invoke. A vicious snow storm brewed quickly to life, its frigid and razor-like air lifting poor unfortunate souls from the ground and sending them to hard deaths against the buildings around them.
Lux was whooping and clapping as he watched the storm rain its punishment down upon everyone around them. “Woo! She is really lettin’ loose, isn’t she?! Your girl’s got some spunk! Woo!” He cheered on the story even as it dissipated.
It was then that Victoria finally acknowledged them, her eyes twisting over to the Seal of Light. She gave him about as much attitude as Mythal had but that didn’t seem to sway the Seal from grinning. “Hey, I killed a guy -- and I didn’t need any fancy swords or weather powers either,” he quipped right back at her. “Just snapped his neck with my own hand. Er well, projection of my hand.”
Mythal was quiet as the woman quickly calculated his magic and found humor in it, turning her entertainment back against Lux. “Yeeaah but what can you do? Gotta play with the hand you’re given. But he’s not that strong; little bit of pushing and tinkering and I can easily make his darkness as bright as my light. Just gotta really get in there and -- is it getting brighter all of a sudden?” Indeed, the darkness around them had begun to fade or, perhaps more notably, move. It swiftly pulled back from its stretched lengths and back towards Mythal, as the Darkness King pulled it back into his body. Within seconds the entirety of the clouding spell was gone but, in its stead, the God Slayer had powered himself up. Black wisps floated around his entire body, with a dark purple color making up his outline. A halo of darkness had formed around his head, matching the dark wings that spread out behind him. His eyes seemed to burn with anger, the rubies highlighted by gold to make them flare even further.
“Get out of her. Right… now,” he growled, his hands twisting into fists. Darkness wrapped around each balled up hand and took the form of a gauntlet, expanding the size of his fists twofold.
“That’s not how it works, kid. We’re attached to your souls. Can’t exactly… click a big red X and exit the program,” Lux quipped, shrugging.
Mythal was quiet for another beat as he considered this. “Seri,” he said, trying a different tactic. “Don’t let this bitch control you. You’re better than that. Kick her back into whatever hole she climbed out of and take the wheel again.”
Re: Too Many Surprises
"Character counts most when duty calls." Xiuhcoatl whined as she trotted over to Mythal after he called her. Her thick fur was twitching with anxiety and she couldn’t hold still, pacing in place. When Lux spoke to her, the wolf growled low and snarled at the seal for a moment but immediately ignored him again and went back to stressing when Mythal drew her attention away. She kept close to her younger brother, clearly looking for some kind of emotional support while Mythal worked out what was going on. Victoria hardly paid the slayer too much attention. Lux took her teasing insults in stride, as he always did, rolling with the verbal punches and throwing some back at her. The older woman’s demeanor didn’t really change, but there was the slightest hint of amusement in her otherwise stoic face. “A single kill? My my, you are feeling generous today, aren’t you? Normally you wouldn’t risk getting your hands dirty -- literally or figuratively.” Her steely gaze had already turned back to the city of mages awaiting her below when the darkness began to recede. The seal watched as her comrade’s host drew his blackened element into himself, soaking the energy back up. Victoria regarded his darkness form with a calculating eye, unmoving even after his demand that she vacate Serilda’s body. A single brow raised on her weathered forehead even as Lux took the time to remind Mythal that wasn’t exactly an option. She waited patiently as the slayer contemplated the other seal’s words, surprised that he even took the time to listen. Most other mortals in the past had just told Lux to sod off, not wanting to hear or accept the cruel realities that had been forced upon them. She imagined that would only go doubly for Mythal given that Victoria was inhabiting his lover. Any other man would have charged her in a frenzied rage. Instead, Mythal carefully processed what Lux told him and changed tactics, trying to reach out to Serilda. Victoria chuckled darkly. “I’m impressed. Mortals aren’t usually this quick to process what’s happened to them. It speaks to your willpower and intelligence that you haven’t broken down into a blithering state of denial.” Despite the patronization in her voice that could only be perfected in a creature that had lived for eons and thought herself better than everyone around her, she did seem sincere in her commentary. Mythal was more than holding his own with a life change that broke and scarred nearly everyone else, and that gave him no small amount of worth to the Seal of Conquest. “Unfortunately for you, it’s far too late to make a difference. The woman is not here anymore. At least, not in any sense that grants her awareness of the real world. Her consciousness is trapped in a state of limbo, darkness if you will. She put up a fight, or at least more of one than I’ve received in the last millenia or so, but the truth of the matter is that she was doomed from the start.” Her yellow eyes flicked to Lux momentarily before returning to Mythal, as though attempting to size up how much the two of them had managed to discuss before she’d shown up. “By his words, I assume that Lux has already given you at least the gist of who and what we are, and how we operate. I am Victoria, the Seal of Conquest.” A pregnant pause filled the air as Victoria allowed Mythal a moment to digest her domain and truly process the implications of her very being. In fact, the title itself was delivered with a very fitting tone of finality. Her authority was absolute because her very existence was derived from bringing everything to heel that lay in her path. She was not a woman who lost fights or relinquished control, and with the mantle of “conquest” came a great deal of power to merit the title. “She has already succumbed to my control. I grew tired of watching silently as she squandered her strength and potential with trivial sentiments. Here you both are, two mortals lured to a city flooding with wizards that are taking every opportunity they can make to try and kill you, yet she insists on wasting time and energy aiming her blows to be nonlethal. No one in this town deserves the mercy she seems to want to give, and each of them will use it against her if given the chance. It is a weakness that I will not tolerate. I will not allow my host to disgrace my existence by constantly coming up just short of a true conqueror. This body belongs to me, now.” The older woman continued to eye Mythal, the curiosity building in her gaze as she sized him up slowly. “Still, the people in this village are hardly worth my energy. They fall before me like flies. But you… you are much more capable than they are. I’d even go so far as to say you might be the strongest host Lux has yet to have. You would make a much better test for my body’s new limits. And after I’ve killed you, I’ll have earned a couple decades of blissful silence while Lux waits to be reborn into a new host.” She smirked impishly at the Lightbringer, a knowing look that betrayed it wasn’t the first time in the seals’ complicated history with one another that she had done such a thing just to annoy Lux. Her focus returned to Mythal. “Time to see what my new magic is truly capable of.” Scales like a dragon began to spread across her skin, so deep a hue of black they yawned like never ending chasms. Light seemed to drain in the area, causing the world around them to turn almost into a state of grayscale. Within the blackness of the scales was the brilliance of space. Bright specks like stars glittered through dusty ribbons of pink, blue, and purple, and even though he would know the person standing before him was quite solid, her body appeared to ripple like it was exuding smoke or mist. It was clearly an effect related to Voidwalking, but it was not an ability or form that Serilda had ever used or even mentioned before. Given that she and Mythal knew one another’s magics pretty intimately by this point, it was likely some kind of deeper power that even Serilda wasn’t aware she had. Both swords in Victoria’s hands rippled and shrank with the effects of two spells that Mythal was more than familiar with. Victoria had tempered Malice and Moonlight and encased them in the brutal black ice of Serilda’s god slaying magic, nearly tripling their damage output. Without any warning, she launched herself at Mythal. The weapons swung with deadly grace at his body, one slice after another in a combination that was meant to try to keep him on the defensive. For now, she didn’t unleash any spells at him. In fact, she didn’t even appear to be going all out just yet. This was more of a warm up to test his own reaction times and try to get a better idea of how he handled himself against Serilda’s magic. Words: 1231/7914 |

So it wasn’t going to be that simple, was it? Nothing ever really was, at least when it came to Serilda and Mythal’s recent adventures. Lux had been quick to adjust his course of action, advising him that simply demanding Victoria to leave wasn’t going to cut it. If anything, he seemed more amused by the aspirations of the Darkness King that the Voidwalker could simply oust the other Seal from her form. As was evidenced by the fact that the Lightbringer was still present and undeterred, willpower clearly wasn’t a measurement of resistance. And yet Mythal still tried, hoping that perhaps his voice would reach the Field Marshall’s ears and awaken some kind of revolt against the control. Victoria took this with the interest of a giant standing over an ant; unvexed and seemingly bored with his antics. Instead, she chuckled with a malicious laugh and commended him for continuing to rationalize the world clearly when everything was, quite obviously, flipping on its head. It seemed there had been times in the past where this very situation had shattered a person’s psyche entirely and, as if to pin that very thought upon the metaphorical board, Lux spoke up.
“Willpower? Yeah, I might give ya that one. But I don’t know – he doesn’t exactly scream ‘brightest bulb in the bunch’ to me. Maybe he’s just too damn stubborn,” Lux said, taking a moment to dramatically step back and look Mythal up and down, as if he was truly taking him in for the first time.
The Darkness King ignored the chittering of his own Seal as Victoria continued her thoughts, proclaiming his attempts to be futile. Serilda wasn’t there; she explicitly said that she was trapped in some kind of in between, a darkness even. She’d fought against the change but Victoria’s strength proved far too much to handle and she had been overtaken. He took these words with no minimum of indignation, his teeth grinding behind clenched lips. Serilda was not that weak. What Victoria really meant was that she had blindsided the Voidwalker and, before she could properly put up her defenses, she had been whisked out of the control room. That’s what Mythal told himself at least.
“Poor girl. Was she at least hot? I like to think she was hot,” Lux mused aloud, stroking his chin and staring far off in creative wonder. As Victoria touched upon the minimal backstory that Lux had provided and properly introduced herself, the Lightbringer snapped back to attention. “Only the important bits. We awake, end the world, wipe out the insects on the planet and we all live happily ever after.”
Seal of Light. Seal of Conquest. Mythal’s eyes snapped between the two beings quickly as he put face to title and name within his mind. After everything that had happened, this was a shit lunch on top of a shit breakfast. But he couldn’t lose himself in pity and wallow when Serilda was currently playing second fiddle to this nasty, cocky old woman. The Darkness King’s gaze settled on her once more as she began to wax poetic about Serilda’s misuse of her abilities. She claimed that holding back from slaughtering those that were trying to end their lives was misplaced mercy, bordering on disgusting. He could hear the vile offense dripping from Victoria’s tongue as she spoke about it, practically claiming that sparing lives was a direct affront to her. That notion would be wiped away, now that Victoria was the one calling the shots.
Her attention then solely focused on Mythal, the host for Lux. She didn’t see the dark wizards of the village as a challenge but she had measured him up fairly well, enough to assume he would be far more of a task than the rest. She essentially classified him as her true test for her limits, adding in that the benefit of doing away with Lux for awhile was an added bonus. As she turned her gaze to the Lightbringer and shot him a look, he brought up his hands and waved them. “Whoa, whoa, whoa! I just got my new toy, don’t go breaking it before I even get to play with it!” As Victoria began to prepare herself for the fight, Lux disappeared and then reappeared right beside the Darkness King. “Okay, no playing around. You gotta give me control. Only chance you have against her is if I fight.”
“No.” Mythal finally spoke, his hardened focus remaining on Victoria.
Lux moved in front of him, putting himself between the attached string of looks. “Listen – she is going to kill you and I really don’t feel like waiting for the next skinsack to pop out of your bloodline. It could be a long time and I don’t have that kind of patience! So stick your pride where the sun don’t shine, take your hands off the steering wheel and let me drive!” Lux did his best to sound intimidating and, to his credit, he did an impressive job. But Mythal was far too committed to freeing Serilda from this elder nightmare and had no plans on being bullied out of this fight. It seemed Gren picked up on this as he came leaping in from out of nowhere and crashed onto Lux, knocking the man from his feet and flattening him onto the ground, back first. As the pup woofed, Lux tried to get himself up, finding himself properly pinned. “Hey! What?! How are you even touching me?! Get off me, mutt!”
But his complaints would be drowned out by the sudden rush of air as Victoria came charging in at Mythal. He’d watched her prepare – dip into pools of magic that even Serilda hadn’t managed to access yet. It should have been shocking but, truthfully, it actually made a lot of sense. Being a Seal that took its title as Conquest, it made sense that this old woman would have the wherewithal to find power and weapons where others may not look. Still, the sight of dragon scales was surprising, and he wasn’t sure if it was simply an effect from her magic or something deeper. Mythal’s hands moved in front and followed the blades as they swung in. The clashing of hardened dark magic and the ice-encapsulated swords was loud and bright, creating sparks that shot off the metal and illuminated the air around them in quick bursts. The Darkness King kept his feet shuffling around, not necessarily backing up but moving about, as he fell right into her plan of putting him on the defensive.
But just as she was coming in for another volley, two unnatural hands came out from around Mythal and grabbed ahold of the swords. Hands as black as the shadows Mythal controlled cracked and froze from the magic wrapped around the blades but they continued to hold. From behind Mythal emerged a creature not of their world. Manifested in darkness, it’s hulking and bulky form floated just by the Darkness King’s back, with straps of bandage wrapping over its chest, around its neck, over its mouth and chin and finally up over its head. A portion of its stomach was gone and was replaced by a hole in the shape of a strange symbol. Four growths emerged from its head; two larger ones off of its temples that pulsed with dark purple veins, giving way to jagged strands of darkness. The two smaller ones hung limply behind its head like loose strands of hair. Its glowing yellow eyes seemed to brighten as they looked at Victoria, a gasping growl escaping from its forcibly clenched jaw.
“You say Seri’s trapped in darkness,” Mythal spoke slowly, his words as sharp as razors. Suddenly his magic exploded outwards in the form of a blisteringly intense aura. Darkness ebbed off of his body in intense waves as he reared his hand back. A globe of darkness filled the open palm, crackling with magical energy as he squeezed it tight with his fingers. He chucked it forward like a player throwing a ball, though it seemed his aim was a little off and it dipped down towards the ground. The second it hit it would explode, creating a thick smog of primordial darkness that would attempt to cut off Victoria’s vision and slow her movements.
“Then I’ll just have to go in and pull her out!” He roared as he leapt into the fog, his hands reinforced once more. Spots of blood stained his forearms, showing that blocking her sword strikes hadn’t gone without injury. But his gauntlets looked rejuvenated and as he put himself on the offensive with several punches and kicks, the Dark Guardian would throw heavy strikes at her from behind Mythal, attempting to take her completely off guard.

Re: Too Many Surprises
"Character counts most when duty calls." Victoria ignored Lux just as much as Mythal did while the Seal of Light reacted to her plan and tried to get his new host to let him fight. Instead, she only smirked at the darkness slayer as he prepared to fight her. She was too busy boosting Serilda’s magic that she didn’t even take the time to mock her companion as a mere wolf managed to tackle and pin his body of light to the ground. With both of them ready to go, VIctoria wasted no time in leading the charge. Mythal defended against her with his bare hands, which was impressive even if they were shrouded in magic that made them much more durable than they otherwise would have been. They truly were like gauntlets, as each blocked swing of her swords could be heard ringing out through the city of ice with sparks flying from the spots where the attacks collided. He was immediately pushed on the defensive as she’d desired, having to continue moving because if he stayed in one place to long he knew that she would teach him a lesson about it. Or at least, so she figured. This man didn’t strike her as unintelligent as Lux seemed to believe, but Lux had always been so full of himself that he’d made gods look charitable and empathetic by comparison. He looked down on everyone, even many of the other Seals. Victoria was not so egotistical. She was confident, yes, and surely thought herself better and stronger than any mortal -- but she also recognized that mortals were capable of possessing great strength, and she could easily recognize it when she saw it. While she knew she would be victorious in the end, as far as she was concerned Lux wasn’t giving his new ‘toy’ enough credit. This man would surely put up a worthwhile fight before she returned him to the earth. And sure enough, just when she was continuing to press her advantage Mythal managed to even the field a bit. Two hands of pure darkness sprung from his back and shot forward over his shoulders, grasping her weapons and gripping them tight enough to momentarily stop her attack. They splintered from the effort of doing so, taking damage both from the blades themselves and the frigid magic enchanted to them. Behind him, a new being entered the fray. Some kind of beast of darkness appeared, grotesque in its appearance with bandages wrapped practically around its entire body and a gaping, curiously shaped hole in its abdomen. It growled at her dangerously as her golden eyes flicked toward it curiously. She was unaware that Mythal had the ability to summon creatures to his aid. It was not a skill that he had displayed since Victoria had become conscious within Serilda’s mind, so it was certainly a surprise to her. But it was a welcome surprise that proved true her hunch that he would be a better fight than the rest of this pathetic town. Her gaze slowly turned back to the slayer as he began to speak, her expression even. His magic released itself violently from him then, darkness roaring to life around them as he called a collection of it to one of his open palms. He threw it to the ground, once more enveloping the area in darkness. This time, however, she was a target and not an ally. Her vision went black as her eyes failed to perceive anything through the lack of light. He declared quite confidently that if Serilda was trapped in darkness that he would get to her and pull her out himself. Mythal charged her then, coming at her without reservation. The monster he had summoned managed to position itself behind her once her eyes had lost their usefulness, allowing the two of them to flank her. They launched a series of very heavy punches and kicks at her, and the first few landed. However, without any warning they would both find their attacks suddenly passing right through her body where, without anything to stop them, there was a crucial moment where the two would risk hitting one another at full force. She used that time when their own guards would hopefully be down to aim two very precise strikes with her swords: one at Mythal and one at the best. “Your magic is powerful. Lux will use it well, if he can manage to save himself from being a chew toy for that mutt of yours. However, with this new magic I do not require my eyes to see you both.” She had access to Serilda’s magic, which meant her Void Sense told her exactly where they were. Truthfully, she hadn’t made any attempt to defend herself against the first several blows because she wanted to gauge his physical strength. He had a lot of it, more than she would admit. Victoria knew that if she let him land too many blows on her he would start to wear her down much quicker than most of her enemies over the past -- which said a lot. Still, she refused to be bested by a mortal, and she’d barely begun to tap into her new powers. “Let’s see how you fare against what she had to offer and then, if you’re very lucky, you’ll get a taste of my own magic before you fall.” A plume of thick black mist raced from her body, coalescing into the darkness. While it wouldn’t be noticeable to anyone else Mythal and his monster -- who presumably could both see just fine -- would find their own senses starting to be obscured. It was thick enough that it could hide her physically, and there were magical properties to it that seemed to dampen one’s ability to track even her magic itself. It was a trick that Serilda had pulled on Archimedes back in Kingdom Darkness, and one that Mythal had seen before but not had directed at him. He also would not be able to miss the exact moment that Victoria cast Serilda’s Dead Space spell. In addition to every other sense being dulled or dampened, all sound cut out completely. This would at least not be a total shock to him as this particular spell was one he was accustomed to running into at random, but it would still limit him in certain ways that were currently more dangerous for him now than they normally were. Suddenly, fist sized chunks of hail began to rain down mercilessly upon their heads. While they were preoccupied with that, Victoria leaped forward to engage the monster that Mythal had summoned, shooting from the mist with her blades raised. She aimed to jump the creature from behind, hoping to jam her weapons deep into its shoulder blades and pierce it through. Words: 1142/9056 |

There was a somewhat, kind of relief at managing to strike at Victoria; feeling his knuckles dig into her sides and knock some of her confidence out, if only for a moment. The orb had exploded perfectly and the inky darkness compacted in its bowels had retched out and blinded her, leaving her open. But at the same time, he was wary – his strikes hit with a bit too much truth, as if she was egging him to hit her. Mythal had done similar actions in battles to garner the strength of his opponents; to feel just how much they were exerting against him. And if she truly was the Seal of Conquest, no doubt she operated on a combative mind that even he couldn’t possibly understand. Nonetheless, he brought down strikes upon her from every direction until her body became completely ethereal. It happened so quick that he barely had time to process it but luckily for him, his martial arts training had taught him to stay his hand once contact was gone. And the Dark Guardian that clung to his back was under his control and stopped only a fraction later, though not as immediate as he had. The Darkness King’s eyes snapped to the side as Victoria rushed in again, her swords glinting in the dim light as they swung towards each of them. Mythal managed just in time to bring his arm up and offset most of the damage to his gauntlet and arm, though it still hurt like a son of a bitch. The Dark Guardian suffered a stroke across its chest and reared back in agony, its hand rushing to its chest to clasp its fingers around the wound. A dark mist leaked out of the injury, along with glittering particles of purple light.
She spoke again, clearly impressed with the offense he had managed to put up. Her compliments meant nothing to him and his silence told as much, though he doubted she very much cared. She explained rather simply that her ‘new’ magic allowed her to see without her eyes, confirming that she had full control over Serilda’s magical abilities. Blinding her and binding her was going to be tough if she could tap into the Voidwalking abilities. He kept his gaze on the older woman, as the Dark Guardian floated closer to him and held its arms out defensively. She chided his resilience, proclaiming that the next phase of her testing would begin and, if he was lucky, he’d get the chance to see what she really offered. As the words left her mouth, she released a thick mist that came scouring through the dark fog that lingered around them. It filled in the gaps with its magical material and added an extra layer to the density of smog. Now it wasn’t just a block for those that didn’t use dark magic – it was even hindering Mythal’s ability to see and track within the confines of it. Serilda had used this against his father in Kingdom Darkness but now he was getting a full lesson on just how potent it was.
It was quickly followed by his world going completely blank. The sounds of the battlefield were removed, leaving an absolute nothingness in his mind. That damn spell that he had experienced firsthand several times had come back and was not actively being used against him. His Dark Guardian was affected as well but it went into complete protection mode. A hand snaked out and grabbed Mythal by the shoulder, swinging the Darkness King back before throwing him full speed out of the globe of silence. Mythal’s wings righted him enough that he was able to spin and flip, slamming his feet down on the ground as he came to a sliding stop. The Dark Guardian remained as Victoria dove into the dome and pierced its shoulders with her blades. The creature was thrust and stabbed into the ground, impaled against the ice as it howled in anguish. But its hands came up and grabbed at the blades once more, gripping the weapons so tight that it was oozing black miasma from the open wounds it made.
The God Slayer hissed as he pulled out more magic from his core and connected it to the world around them. He pulled the darkness from the air around them and threw it onto the ground, blanketing the already dark ice in another layer of black. From it emerged glowing purple lights, each one lighting up right after the other. Thirteen of them grew to full exposure, circling the area around Victoria and the Dark Guardian. As Mythal swiped his hand through the air, the lights coalesced into one single darklight beam and exploded upwards, swallowing up the immediate area. But he wasn’t going to wait – his hands fell to the either one of his sides and reached out to the ground, forming an invisible connection with the shadows around the area. They pulled from all around; from the buildings to the rooms inside, even from the two Star Wolves. They wrapped up around his arms and sunk into his flesh, empowering him even more. The ring of gold around his eyes seemed to brighten and the crimson orbs in front started to darken into a deep maroon. Lines appeared in them in a twisting fashion, as if his very eyes were becoming spirals. His darkness aura intensified, sweeping off of him like smog off an open flame.
His ability to feel through the darkness was still muted but his eyes were still slightly sharper than normal. As the previous explosive spell began to settle, there was no sign of the Dark Guardian save for a black, inky mass that rested on the surface of the ground. Over on the sides of the battle, Lux had managed to get himself to his feet, staring at the war of magics in awe. His eyes lingered on Mythal in absolute wonder, a mixture of excitement and terror streaking across his features. Several thousand different thoughts went through his head as he continued to watch, now more than a little interested in seeing just how well Mythal could fight back against the other Seal.

Re: Too Many Surprises
"Character counts most when duty calls." This man’s battle instinct was impeccable. Even with no warning to the coming change, the exact moment that his fist met no resistance he managed to stop himself on a dime to prevent himself from harming his ally. Mythal continued to impress her. Alas, if only he didn’t belong to Lux… Once Victoria defeated him she could subjugate him to herself as a pet to respond to her beck and call. Alas, she could not contract herself to another Seal’s host. Death it would have to be, then. Such a waste. She managed to strike them both, at least. The monster took more damage than its master, but that was to be expected. He seemed disinterested in her praise, which was rude but that was fine. Truth be told she was far too busy admiring just how effective this Voidwalking business was. Even she knew very little about it, which was why she had waited so long to show herself. Victoria took plenty of time to study Serilda and her magics, ultimately judging that the noblewoman’s methods of execution was more than effective. Serilda had nearly perfected the practice, save for the fact that she hadn’t even tapped into her full potential yet. And with plenty of time to search and explore, Victoria had been able to figure out a number of secrets that Serilda had not uncovered thus far. She dropped her mist and noise cancellation spells, using them to cover her as she repositioned herself for an attack. Victoria could feel as the beast of darkness snatched hold of Mythal and flung him from the sphere of silence, leaving itself alone and vulnerable. Her weapons skewered the creature with such force that he was pinned to the ground like a butterfly to a display case. It raged against the agony, though its voice was swallowed up by the silencing spell. Still, she could feel it thrash in protest, clawing and gripping hopelessly at the weapons that ailed it. All in all, she found that somehow this was much more satisfying than the screams. Not that Victoria had ever really been one to take a sick satisfaction in the pain of her enemies; she believed in victory, not necessarily torture. But having all of her own senses cut out save for the physical feel of her enemy’s life draining from its body as it struggled in vain… well, she could almost start to understand those dark wizards who were obsessed with such things. As the creature struggled with its last breaths, the blackness disappeared from around her. Victoria gripped tight to her weapons, twisting them deeper into the beast even as she looked around. She could feel Mythal moving out in the distance and preparing an attack, but while her eyesight had mostly returned and her magical senses weren’t hampered by the cloud of frost she still couldn’t really see through it with her eyes. And since light had no physical form that would register on the senses for the Void, her only clue as to the incoming attack was when there was enough light from the orbs to reach through the mist. Rather than make an attempt to escape it as she honestly wasn’t sure that she could, even by diving underground, she wretched Malice and Moonlight from the monster’s shoulders and rose them up protectively in front of her face. She tapped deep into Serilda many defensive spells, switching on as many as she could before the light exploded and swallowed her up. The Seal of Conquest grit her teeth and growled low in a mixture of pain and stubborn determination. It angered her that she’d gotten lucky. Serilda’s magic was ridiculously defensive, greatly cutting back the damage that she could have taken and leaving her not nearly as hurt as she otherwise would have been… but still there was the knowledge that he could have delivered her quite the effective blow. This mortal certainly had some gall. But he was no Jabez, and she had vowed a very long time ago to never let another mortal get so close to beating her as her one time enemy had. As the light show cleared, so did the smoke screen of frost which had been blown away by the strength of Mythal’s attack. Sound had also returned to the area. Victoria stood over the pool that had once been the slayer’s pet, her swords dripping with its black goo as she stared him down hard. While she obviously had not been hit by the attack nearly as hard as she should have been, it was still visually evident that she’d taken more damage than she was happy with. Victoria took a step forward and disappeared completely, only to step back into existence in the sky up above Mythal’s head. She drew in a deep breath and let out a roar thunderous enough to rattle the eardrums of everyone in the village. From her mouth spewed forth a stream of blackness that was littered with dots of speckled starlight and swaths of colorful dust, as though she were breathing space itself upon him. And indeed that seemed to be the case, for as the jet of energy slammed down toward the earth it grew and expanded like any other dragon’s roar might, but instead of leaving a trail of fire or ice it instead violently sucked up all the oxygen in the air, leaving nothing to breathe in the vast area that the attack covered. Much like many of Serilda’s Void spells, it also left the area freezing cold like he’d been thrown into space with nothing to protect his flesh. From there, massive chunks of ice were ripped from the ground and homes around him and hurled in his direction where they attempted to smash him between them. This was yet another testament to Victoria’s higher mastery over Serilda’s magic than the Voidwalker herself. Typically, Seri could only have pulled off such magic while she had a hand free to direct it. Yet Victoria had both swords still in her hand and made no such gesticulations. In fact, she was already diving back down toward Mythal at full speed with the intent to engage him with her swords while he was trying to dodge large slabs of murderous ice attempting to turn him into a slayer pancake. There was one major benefit to essentially fighting the overtaken body of Serilda. Her magic had made her tough as nail, diamonds even. Her boosts in defense made her a challenge for even some of the strongest wizards to take down, people within the same level as Mythal operated in. That’s why he didn’t feel like he had to hold back with some of his more threatening spells, knowing full well that Serilda herself would be able to stand them. Add in the ancient Seal that was now occupying it just made it easier to strike it without feeling bad. Though he very much doubted other people would take relief in watching him swallow up the overtaken form in explosive dark magic and attack it with martial arts. He had to do something – something to wear Victoria out so Serilda could find a metaphysical handgrip and wrestle control back. And he would die doing everything in his power to free her.
The pillar of darklight faded, the force of it clearing away the more dismantling of effects that Victoria had laid upon the land. In its center was the Seal of Conquest; damaged but not nearly enough for the Darkness King’s liking. Their eyes met for only a brief moment, the intensity between their gazes practically crackling from the intense pressure. Then a second later she was gone, having removed herself from their stare down before it could result in anything further. Mythal’s sharp hearing heard the inhale from above him and his head craned upwards to see her, simply hanging in the sky as she drew in breath. Before he could even say anything, the roar came tumbling down towards them. A plume of twilight, the very substance looking more like a virulent, liquidated night sky. It expanded in all directions as it came crashing down upon him and the others gathered about. Then it was like they had been thrown into a vacuum – the air left them, his lungs already tightening as they attempted to draw from a tap that no longer existed. He clamped his mouth shut and tightened his chest further, to keep whatever air he still had inside trapped long enough to keep him on his feet. His wide eyes snapped over to Gren and Xiuhco, who each were already starting to struggle with the lack of air. Lux seemed fine, in fact he looked more confused that the three of them were struggling to breath. He looked at each one of them, his brows arched in perverse wonder.
Getting the hounds out of the area was now first and foremost… well, second to surviving. Even as he attempted to craft a plan in his head, he heard the ground giving way to Victoria’s magic, large chunks of ice and snow rising from the earth. He flicked his wrist and created a wall of darkness on one side of himself while he turned and punched in the other, his first rending the ice apart through sheer force. His hardened darkness held for a brief moment before cracking underneath, causing the fragment to smash into Mythal’s back and lift him from the ground briefly. Rather than fight it, he rolled his feet over his head and landed flat on the boulder, leaping off of it to avoid even more slabs attempting to flatten him. Of course doing so put him in direct impact with the now diving Victoria, whose blades were primed and ready to run him through.
With no other options, he decided to gamble it all on offense. He turned his shoulder into one blade, essentially skewering himself with it as it plunged through his flesh. The pain caused him to yelp, releasing even more precious air from his lungs but it also gave him control over the blade as he tightened his shoulder muscle around it. His free arm knocked away at the wrist holding the other blade and he turned his body inwards, rolling in the air and aiming his elbow up for her forehead. From here he turned once more and shot his leg out to kick at the arm still holding the other blade, looking to knock it free of her grip. Then he released a burst of magic from the uninjured hand to send him spiraling back down towards the ground, using his wings to right his course to Xiuhco and Gren. As soon as he hit the ground beside them, he formed a small portal of darkness and slid them through it, allowing them to emerge several miles away at another dark point Mythal had touched upon during their trek here.
His lungs were on fire at this point, his ears were ringing and the pain in his shoulder was enough to make him feint. Lux was trying to say something to him but he ignored it, choosing instead to put all his strength into launching himself skyward, using his magic to bolster the speed of his ascent. It took a shorter amount of time than it felt but soon he had reached a point where the roar hadn’t infected the atmosphere and fresh air was suddenly present again. He gasped loud as his body once again reoxygenated itself, his vision clearing almost instantly. But he wasted little time in enjoying it, essentially taking in a large gulp of air before divebombing back into the absence. Now refreshed, the God Slayer rushed right at Victoria, his darkness magic now coursing through him beyond its normal limits. He engaged her again but this time with poignant strikes; both arms flung forward in two haymakers for her head, followed quickly by a uppercut meant for her jaw. He spun and delivered a kick forwards targeting her stomach. Then his free arm reared back, covering itself in a thick layer of black and lined with throbbing white veins. He thrust it forward at her head, a devastating punch that would release all the compounded magic when it struck. It was the same attack Mythal had used to cripple many an opponent and, with any luck, it would send Victoria crashing down onto the land with one hell of a splitting headache. His wings flapped aggressively and carried him skyward, back to where he could take several gulps of air and rejuvenate himself, if only temporarily.

Re: Too Many Surprises
"Character counts most when duty calls." The cloud of Void slammed into the ground around Mythal and the wolves, quickly sucking up the precious oxygen in the air and leaving them gasping. She saw him look to the two hounds but before he could do anything to protect them he was already having to deal with the next couple attacks she had thrown in his direction. He managed to stave off one of the chunks of ice long enough to punch through another and keep himself from being flattened. But before he could fully recover, the ice to his back broke through the wall and lifted him up into the air. Mythal repositioned himself on the slab to stand and launch himself off of it like it was a platform, likely trying to get to a place with a better air supply, but Victoria was already there. She felt her blade sink into his flesh, heard him cry out in pain. It was an effective blow, yes, but not one without drawbacks. Victoria briefly attempted to wrest the weapon from his body to strike him again only to find he had tightened his muscles around it, practically locking it in place. His other hand smacked her arm so hard he actually managed to cause the weapon to drop from her grip. While she was recovering from that, he twisted and kicked her, forcing the second weapon to be pried from her other hand and leaving her weaponless. Before she could switch to a different tactic, he uses a burst of energy to shoot himself back toward the ground, which had a side effect of an explosion at near point blank. Victoria snarled in indignation. Truthfully, she was having twofold emotions in that moment. She was truly beginning to understand and appreciate just how much damage this new body could take, and it was arguably more than any host she’d ever had. Even knowing it was the body of his lover, this man was not pulling his punches, slamming the Seal with the full might of his power. If Victoria had been in any other body, she may have long since succumbed to this increasingly insufferable mortal. But therein lay her second issue: Why in the hell was this mortal so strong?! It was insane how much raw power he had and how much damage he could dish out. He had already chewed through the vast majority of the defensive spells she’d put up. Truthfully, she had Lux had both won the lottery in terms of hosts. Neither of them would be able to deny that to the other. However, her thoughts on that were clouded by the unthinking anger that was swelling within her. This mortal was more vexing than anything else, and she was truly starting to want to kill him rather than just toy with him. He managed to get to the wolves and push them through some kind of dimensional portal far outside her reach. Then, he launched himself high up into the air and managed to get a lung full of breath. It was time for her last hail mary with this new magic. While he was shooting around saving wolves and getting a breath of fresh air, she tapped into every single defensive spell Serilda had that hadn’t been used up yet. Her body was throbbing with such energy that one could practically see the air pulsating around her. It was about all she could do for the time being, as Mythal was quick -- much quicker than she was, frustratingly enough. But she was determined to do as she always did: outlast and defeat. She would let him have his punches just to showcase for him how superior she truly was. Victoria braced herself in the air without moving, allowing him to come straight for her. At least one of the defensive spells would result in him being injured for his efforts, as the black wind that whipped about her body was fierce enough to rend any flesh that came into its range. The first two haymakers swung right through her body without meeting any resistance. The third punch managed to break through the limitations on the Void shield, resulting in a solid fist to her jaw. She growled and snapped her head around to glare at him, but he was already completing a fierce kick to her stomach. As she reeled from that, a final punch charged with insane amounts of magical energy slammed into her cranium, sending her flying down to the ground. Instead of smacking into it, she allowed the ground to swallow her up harmlessly. As she took a moment to recover underground, out of sight for both Mythal and Lux, she seethed with a quiet, simmering rage. “So be it.” Against any other opponent Victoria truly felt that Serilda’s magic would have been more than enough to win, but clearly this man was no ordinary mortal. That was the only reason he could be putting up so great a fight as he was now, and that called for every bit of power she had to put him in his place. Slowly, she lifted herself back up to the surface and emerged with a controlled, even demeanor that did nothing to temper the palpable rage ebbing from her. Mythal had managed to jump back up for a second round of air. Once more the two stared one another down. Victoria looked like she had taken a heavy beating, to the point where if she had even a shred less pride she might have had to admit that Mythal was winning this fight -- if barely. That was about to change. Calming herself, she took in a steady breath and exhaled slowly. Before his eyes, Mythal would see her wounds healing. Between Serilda’s magic and her own, she had more than enough to pump herself back up to full health. Lifting a hand up, she used Serilda’s Voidwalking to snatch hold of the sword still pierced through Mythal’s shoulder and ripped it from him. When she caught the scimitar she eyed him for only a moment before raising the blade to her mouth and gently licking a bit of his blood off of it. It wasn’t some crazed show of perverse insanity like most would think. If anything, she did it with an air of curiosity. “I see,” she said after a moment, the smirk returning to her lips. “As I thought, you are not fully mortal. The blood of an angel runs through your veins. And this place I see… Ah, yes. You and this vessel both survived Kingdom Darkness. Quite admirable. But it’s going to take more than raw power to defeat me, even yours.” She stretched out her second hand a recalled the other blade to her hand. Despite the action to rearm herself, she took no steps to lunge toward him and engage once more in battle. Instead, she spoke what sounded like a name. “Mazikeen.” A split second later, a woman appeared next to her. She had dark skin and thick black hair that had been fashion into dreads and adorned with small beads. The clothing she wore was loose and though they were clean they had a sort of grunge look to them. Her entire midsection was exposed, showing off a gold belly button ring. She had the look of a trouble maker about her as she smiled at Victoria. “Well, well, look who’s finally out and about. I was wondering when you’d come back to us.” Her voice was smooth like honey, carrying an almost sultry tone to it. She turned to survey the area a bit, having not quite noticed Mythal up in the sky yet. She certainly saw the carnage that was the city, though. The woman looked impressed. “Straight to business, I see. You never did like to waste time.” Her dark eyes fell on Lux and a shit eating grin spread across her face. “Oh, Lux is here, too. Still running those fuck-flaps of yours?” It was difficult to ascertain whether she was insulting the other seal, threatening him, or trying to flirt with him in some twisted fashion. Likely, it was all three. “Maze.” “What’s up?” “This city is full of wretched humans that consider themselves evil. Kill them.” “Absolutely.” She cracked her knuckles and started panning the area once more, looking for her first victim. It was only then that she picked up something that drew her attention upward. Mazikeen eyed Mythal with a gaze that was hungry in more than one fashion. “What about tall, dark, and edgy up there?” “I’ll take care of him. He is too much for you. But I’m sure if you start slaying what’s left of these mortals… well, he won’t be too pleased.” The woman smirked. “Then I’ll be sure they die slowly, with lots and lots of screaming.” She raced deeper into the city, heading toward the areas where the fight hadn’t reached yet. Victoria set herself to a ready stance, and called out to him, “Let’s see how you fare now.” Before Mythal could so much as consider trying to stop Mazikeen, he would find himself wracked with a severe, almost crippling pain throughout his body. It would feel like his blood was bursting in his veins, the individual cells rupturing and causing damage to him from the inside. Words: 1592/11,709 |

Fighting at this level for such a consistent amount of time was unnatural for Mythal. He’d practiced and trained with his connection the Kingdom Darkness but the amount of magical enforcement he was utilizing from it was beyond what he had attempted before. He didn’t so much feel his body straining as he felt it buzzing in an odd, not comfortable manner. It was like a battery being hooked up to a generator and being forced to continually absorb the energy. He could cut off the connection if he had to but… he was afraid doing so would most certainly result in his death and the loss of Serilda.
The latter was completely unacceptable.
She was the first to draw blood but he had apparently led her into a sense of security, thinking she could get close to him. That was one advantage to this new magic; it gave him range and destructive power but it didn’t take away from what he had mastered for many years. Knocking himself away from her had started the offense back in his direction and after freeing himself from her, he had even managed to knock her swords free of her hands. He quickly dove down to send Gren and Xiuhco away, both saving them from asphyxiating as well as moving them away from the battle. Then when he had a solid breath of air, he was right back into the thick of the battle. She didn’t attempt to move or defend herself, clearly relying on Serilda’s magic to completely protect her. But even the Voidwalking magic had limits and as his uppercut found her jaw, he was more than happy to remind her of that. All that seemed to do was enrage her but he didn’t care, even as his heel buried itself in her stomach and pushed the air out of her lungs. The final, empowered punch hit her with such force that she soared through the air like a wild top towards the ground. She managed to tap back into the Voidwalking magic and simply slid through the solid surface without creating any kind of impact. That was fine with him; he still had managed to cause damage to her. With that he took back to the fresh air, allowing himself to breath more than once to rejuvenate his sore lungs.
He hissed as he looked over at the sword, still well and embedded in his shoulder. As much as the pain hurt – and it did – it was better suited there than in her hands. He would much prefer it be kept out of the fight from there on out. His eyes searched for the other weapon he had managed to knock free of her but before he could locate it, Victoria resurfaced from the ground below. He leveled his gaze on her’s, practically feeling the hatred and anger that seemed to resonate off her body, despite her steely façade. She had taken plenty of damage from his barrage but before he could even think about commending himself on it, the injuries began to heal themselves. He sighed softly; clearly she was able to manipulate Serilda’s magic to stitch up the wounds and levy the bruises and bumps. It was unfair, sure but when was the last time he’d been in a fight that wasn’t painfully unfair? The sword in his shoulder suddenly began to move and before he could snap his other hand over to grab it and keep it, it plunged out of his body and flew back to the woman. He hissed between clenched teeth from the painful removal, blood beginning to leak out from the wound. Even better.
She opted to taste the blood on the weapon, looking like an animal testing a strange new discovery. Upon ingesting the properties, she gained her smugness back, easily deciphering his lineage and his survival within Kingdom Darkness. Mythal fought the need to roll his eyes as she showed off her abilities and stated that it was going to take more than his strength to bring her down. But before he could retort, she spoke another word that was unfamiliar to his ears.
But it wasn’t to Lux. “Aw shit…” The Lightbringer groaned, his head drooping slightly. Beside Victoria appeared another woman, with jeweled black dreads and dark skin, dressed in loose fitting clothing that showed more of her body than would normally be tolerable in the cold. She turned to the Seal of Conquest and greeted her like a friend, taking the time to look around and familiarize herself with the world. During her observation, her eyes fell upon Lux, grinning like a wild animal at him. “Oh, Maze is here. Still running to mommy whenever she beckons? What a well trained bitch,” he shot back at her, smirking but only slightly. There was a slight tension in the façade, the Seal of Light clearly trying to put forth a brave front. But even from his place in the sky, Mythal could tell Lux was truly concerned now.
Victoria ordered the woman to slaughter the remaining dark wizards in the city, instantly alarming the Darkness King. As she scanned for someone to kill, her gaze fell upon the God Slayer and asked about him, to which the Seal proclaimed that he was solely to be hers but that killing the survivors would certainly help to dismantle him. The summoned woman tore into the city, ready to begin the slaughter again. “No!” Mythal yelled, diving forward to give chase to her. But he didn’t even make it back within the vacuum before his entire body begin to scream out in agony. He groaned and shook, as every part of him tightened in agony. It felt like he was imploding from the inside out, his brain practically shutting down from the constant pained alarms. He was stuck, frozen, completely immobile. At this rate, he was going to have no way of defending himself when Victoria came at him, if she even did. She probably could stay right there, gloating in silence as she rendered his body from the inside. All the while that summoned woman was killing all those people. And Serilda, trapped somewhere in the dark of her own body. Alone. Lost.
Lux watched from below, growling between clenched teeth. “Damnit, Vic. You just have to ruin my fun before it even… starts?” The last word fell from his mouth in confusion as movement around him caught his attention. Every shadow, every inkling of dark matter, was sliding over the land and towards Mythal. It was quick and as it congealed in the single area beneath him. The God Slayer’s body was flexing harder than ever before, veins popping up all over his flesh as he strained. But soon darkness filled his body and not just the magical lanes that naturally covered the human body. No, it filled every nook and cranny, drowning his blood, bones and body in it. He let out a yell as he suddenly throw his limbs out away from him and the darkness blob below him shot up from the ground and slammed into him. As soon as it melded with his form, dark magic exploded outwards and grew into a massive dome that encircled the entire city. Every inch of the town, every single space and cranny within it, was cast in a darkness unlike any had ever seen before. The only spot it remained clear was in the small circle where Victoria, Mythal and Lux remained.
But Mythal wasn’t Mythal anymore. The shadow on him faded and in his place, a new figure hung in the air. The hair was long and unkempt, hanging down near the center of his back. His face was even more pale than it had been before, with cracks riveting across the bridge of his nose and down over his left brow. There was a calm dread to his neutral features, save for the spinning purple vortex that was the entirety of his eyes. Slowly his head turned downwards to look at Victoria, meeting her gaze for what seemed like a final time. He extended hand and a portal appeared on the ground near Lux, a doorway between realms. From it emerged a spinning cyclone of darkness, dotted with glowing, blinking yellow eyes. The spiraling amalgamation swung out from the entryway and spun around Lux, causing him to backpedal in alarm. “Find the girl. Remove her,” the new man ordered coldly to the twister, without looking at it. The spiral didn’t answer beyond twisting up and then diving into the ground, melting in a puddle of black before fading all together. It would reemerge under Mazikeen in an attempt to send her flying up into the air, throwing her around the hundreds of individual darkness creatures that made up the cyclone.
“Now…” The man continued as he pulled Curse from behind him, flipping the trigger on it instantly. As it began to unfold into the scythe form, he tossed it idly over his shoulder. But rather than falling to the ground, it swung around and hovered behind his back, the scythe’s blade directly behind his shoulder. An aura of black and purple magic began to seep out from the man, cloaking him in its powers. Then without motion or sound, he was gone… only to reappear directly in front of Victoria. His fists moved quickly, dancing through the air from every direction at her. At the same time the scythe swung around him like a wild interstellar object, aiming to slice and cut at her body. Just as quickly as the assault came it was gone, as was the man. But from the dark void all around open area appeared dark purple lights, thousands of darklight stars peeking out from the shadows. Then hundreds of beams of light came raining down upon the area, bombarding the entirety of the open area. Even Lux was thrown back and into the dark, the detonations too strong for him.
Wherever Victoria had managed to head to, the man reappeared as silent as a shadow. He struck at her one more time but this time it was different. His arm was cloaked in an odd darkess that tore between reality. It reached into a new realm of darkness, one where a certain Voidwalker had fallen comatose while Victoria had taken control. His sudden entry would, hopefully, be enough to shake the laws of the realm and wake Serilda from her slumber. From behind her, the man practically whispered to the Seal. “Time for you to go back in your cage.”
Alone. Lost.
