Alyia walked through the silent city, there was no one in sight, but it was night time, which was understandable. Her boots made contact with the street and the girl paused her thinking for a moment to question why her clothes had grown along with her frame. Magic. I guess it didn’t matter. It was one foot in front of the other and the girl could hear the clicking of the heel against the stone. There was no other sound around her, just her and the lamp post that lit the street. It would be interesting stealing the goblet now, but it was often not looked against if a traveller entered a holy place in search of refuge or worship. Which of course, that was what Alyia was going to do, clearly.
There was a small breeze now, something that caused for the short strands of hair that were loose on Alyia’s face to tickle their nose. They lifted a hand to brush their nose, carefully as they had yet to understand the movement of the body. Maybe being a male wasn’t such a good idea. Maybe not the male, maybe being such a tall male was not a good thing. Their hand came in contact with their nose and they rubbed it before moving push back the strands of black hair. They ran their fingers through it, pushing it back from their face. Being a male was really weird. The hair was soft and silky, but refused to stay in one place. It refused to stay in place in general. After about the fourth time that Alyia pushed it back she had eventually just given up and allowed for it to drift and float as it desired.
She passed stalls and what could have been posts for horses for travelers, she passed animals within their pens, dogs barking filled the night, but it was nothing that could bother the Angel now. Her steps proceeded through the night until she was at the door step of the castle. It was large compared to what she thought it might have been, but that was nothing she could worry about now. Now she was here and she had a job to finish.
Placing a hand on the door she pushed it open. She was honestly surprised that there was nothing around the castle in order to protect it, but she supposed that few people would want to attack the Holy Castle, after all it was a holy place. It was protected by the idea of religion. She was not, however, surprised to find the main door unlocked. Pushing it wide enough for her to walk inside the Angel took a quick look around, see if she could spot the goblet so that she wouldn’t have to go looking for it. That was not the case. It was no where to be found. Well there goes that idea. She was slightly disappointed, but that emotion was quickly snapped back into place as a voice called out to them from about the stair.
“Lonely traveller, what be the honor to your presence here?” Green eyes looked up and met with a pair that were blue. There, a man stood upon the staircase, looking down at Alyia with a smile that could have passed as both welcoming and suspicious. The man was dressed in robes with red trim, hair was salt and pepper, and his face shown signs of aging.
“Sir, I come but for a blessing on my continuous journey.” Alyia had managed to alter their voice, a middle tenor, something that would lure men to their deaths if she so wished. But what she said was ironically not a lie, but not a truth. A continuous journey was what she was on, but a blessing was not exactly what she needed, she needed something that was blessed in order to continue her journey. There was a warm smile that pulled on their lips, something that could hopefully give the other male the relief he needed in order to trust Alyia.
“A journey alone? May this be a journey to find yourself?” The questions tumbled from the lips of the elder man and Alyia had to hold back a groan, why must this old man be uttering such questions when she was running on a time schedule.
“Yes, sir. I’ve lived alone for much of my life, working and passing each day without a worry of who I was, who I am, and who I will become. But I’ve begun to ask myself such questions and I wish to find those answers. I hope that by the end of this journey I am able to find them.” It wasn’t lies, but it wasn’t the truth. The Angel had managed to turn the words from something so personal into something that anyone could worry about. But the words were also not false. Alyia spent days on trying to figure out where she was in life, she knew what she had to do, but what would she do after that? Was there even an after that? Could she get to that point?
The man at the top of the stairs nodded at her before gesturing with his hand for Alyia to follow him. The black haired male took steps forward and towards the old man, reaching out for the banner of the stairs when he reached it. It was cold under her touch and she was able to ground herself through the situation. Focusing on her magical sensory the girl figured that she would be able to sense the goblet within the castle if it were the most holy item there. If it were that hole, there was no way that it wouldn’t be considered magical.
She was right of course. It was there, on the second floor, in one of the rooms in the far back, she didn’t know how to get there, but that wasn’t a problem. She would be able to get her hands on it right now if she wanted, but the elder male in front of her had her skin crawling. There was something off about him. He seemed to have relaxed after she had told him the story of self discovery, but there was really something about the man that made the Angel uncomfortable.
Step after step the Angel made her way to the man. It wasn’t until they were only a few steps apart did the elder turn to continue up the steps. “I understand, my son. I too once went on a journey to find myself among the cosmos. I finally found myself here. The Holy Castle, the place of peace and prosperity. I have been here for far longer than you have been alive and I continue to find myself every day.” It was weird, the man seemed no older than 60 years of age, meaning that he was here around his last 30’s early 40’s. The time when people would be getting married and having children, if not already having done those. So why would he be here? Was he a monk? Was he a renunciant? These were questions. These were the reasons that the Angel did not find comfort with the old man.
The old man, led the two up the stairs and to the left, to the door that held the goblet. What also freaked the Angel out was that there was no one else within the castle, just the old man. Maybe this wouldn’t have been too scary, but there seemed to also have been zero life within the town outside the castle. It was night, but wouldn’t there also be people out at night? There was nothing that the girl heard but her footsteps and the sounds of animals. There were no lights on but the light of the lamp post. Yet, the girl followed the man in robes through the halls and to what seemed to be the room that held the goblet.
The two entered the room and the girl was slightly shocked. It was nearly empty, nothing but a couple of chairs, a table, and the goblet on it. There were some books and a lamp, if the Angel didn’t know better she would have assumed that this room was completely normal. “Please rest here, traveller. I will be back with some tea.” The man nodded to himself as if he had accomplished something before leaving. He closed the door behind him and the girl didn’t hear a click, meaning he didn’t lock it. The Angel didn’t immediately run to the goblet, not she went to the book cases. This room was odd, there was something else in it.
She reached for a book as a bright light took over the room. Blinding her for a moment before she lifted her arm over her eyes. But the light was gone as soon as it came. The Angel pulled her arm away from her eyes and looked around the room to see if she could trace the magic. The magic was clearly light base.
The moment that she snagged onto the fragment of it, she traced it back to the goblet. That was the source, what did it do?
It was only a second later that the old man walked back into the room. “You’re still seeing, that is good.” What a weird thing to say.
Alyia tilted their head and looked at the old man. “Sir, what do you mean? Did you not expect me to see?” The man looked at Alyia with a now genuine smile.
“Traveller that is not what I mean.” His voice was gravelly and slightly tired as if he had just used a lot go magic. “You see that goblet there?” He pointed to the table. “It has been blessed with so much purity it is magic. It is the most pure and holy thing in this castle. Were you not pure it would have blinded you so that you were unable to see and unable to escape.” As so that is what it did.
The Angel wanted to roll her eyes, of course she would have made it out of that with her sight. She was an angel, she was pure. But with her demon side, maybe that it what blinded her in the beginning. “I see, sir.”
They made their way to the table where the man placed the tea on top of it, next to the goblet. The black haired male followed, behind until he was right next to the old man. “No sugar?” The words slipped from Alyia’s mouth. Sure there was tea and honey, but she needed the old man to leave the room.
“Sugar? Sugar. How could I have forgotten, silly me. I will be right back.” The man smiled at Alyia as he left the room to retrieve the ingredients. Alyia reached out for the goblet, her hand was on it as she been to place it into her bag. But it was an unfortunate event that the old man walked in on her as she did so.
“What are you doing!?” The man began to race at the Angel, clearly thinking that he had the upper hand.
It was then that Alyia side stepped the man and he ran into the table, spilling the hot head over himself with a yelp. It was unfortunate that he had seen her. She could have gotten out of this without problems, if it weren’t for him. The old man turned around and was about to through himself at the Angel once again before Alyia cracked one of the earring that had continued to stay with her through the transformation. One of her ice bladed appeared in her hands and the Angel caught the old man, forcing him back into the table with the blade pressed against his neck.
“Sir, all that is pure and holy might not be good.” Her wings burst from her back, now white in order to prove a point. “An Angel once defiled is still holy, Angel with revenge is not good.”
Alyia grit her teeth as she sliced the blade through the man’s neck. Blood ran from it and onto the floor. The once Holy Castle was now defiled. She took the man by his neck and threw him to the floor. Let his blood defile the most holy of rooms. She did not want the man to die, but he had caught her, he had become an obstacle and all obstacles must be eliminated if she were to reach her final destination.
Alyia took one last look at the room and at the man before she touched the wall and exploded herself an exit. White wings turned black and the Angel looked once more at the man on the ground, who looked back at her in fear. “Sorry not sorry old man, like I said. I’m on a mission of self discovery and I needed what you hand. Don’t take it personal. May Gods reward you.”
Black wings lifted her from the spot and the girl took to the air. She made no effort to hide herself now as she was running out of time. It would be only two hours before the sun rose, she was cutting it close on time. She cut across the night sky, trying to beat the light. She had t=yet to transform back into her feminine form, keeping the male identity until she was completely finished with the job.
It took her moments before she was back before the client. They were still behind the wall when she arrived. She flashed her magic once to signal that she was back.
“Are you back already? My. You do get things done quickly. Which I guess I do appreciate. Now leave the goblet on the ground where you stand.” Alyia did just that. Searching through her back to pull out the goblet before setting it on the ground. Once again she flashed her magic, signaling to the other that she had done what they had requested.
“Good, now I expect that you want the information.” Yes, the girl thought, now hurry up. She didn’t have time for his dramatics. “That girl you are looking for is on the borders, specifically the border between Bellum and Pergrande. I have no other information, but I suppose that should be enough.”
Alyia wanted to growl, yes that was information, but hardly enough to pay for what she had done. But she could take what was given. If she wasn’t pleased of if the man was wrong, she could always kill him later.
The Angel let off one last burst of magic before she turned her back and walked away. There was really only an hour and 15 minutes left of the night.
With a run the angel burst off into the air, leaving nothing behind but a cloud of dust. She needed to make it home and fast, she needed to write down this information and then look at the other missions that she had received to see if any of them were near the Bellu-Pergrande border.
Within mid flight the Angel turned back into her Angelic figure. She didn’t want people to see “Aliannah” to be flying around, that really wouldn’t work.
The Angel could feel the blonde hair whipping against her cheeks, all she could say is that the much appreciated that more than the black hair that would never stay in place. Next time she designed a person, they would have hair that she could put up into a hair tie or something.
By the time that the Angel got back home it was 45 minutes to sunrise. Meaning that there was light over the horizon as it took 45 minutes for the sun to rise, as it took for the sun to set. Weird how the world worked in that way. Alyia had pushed herself really the last couple minutes in order to get back before other people were awake. It was one of the worst things to be caught and have Aliannah question what the angel had been doing.
Aliannah pulled off all of the clothes that she used for the mission, they still smelled, but what could she do about it now, now when the girl was supposed to wake up in 30 minutes. Alyia didn’t wash her hair, but she did run a warm wet towel over her body in order to get rid of the smell of sweat and blood. She was really cutting it close. She had really never cut it this close before. If only her client hadn’t felt the need to be so dramatic. If only that old man hadn’t walked in on her. She grumbled through the while matter before she put in the night clothes that Aliannah wore to bed and climbed back into the lofted bed.
Though she was cutting it close, she had done it. She had succeeded, she was one step closer than she was before. A sigh fell from pink lips as the Angel closed her eyes and gave way to the consciousness of the younger girl.
