Hello! So, I will go ahead and put my two cents here, and I have a lot to say. Both as a player and as a mod. Let me start by saying, if you ever feel uncomfortable in discord, go to a staff member the second it happens, with the reason why, so that we can get direct references, and perhaps curve the conversation. In addition to that, if at all possible, I would like for you to point to specific instances of non-PG behavior that might have caused this suggestion. You can PM me if you desire.
Now, that being said yes the Discord gets rowdy, yes is does get chaotic, and yes we do get close to the line. However, staff, especially myself, are very adamant about speaking up when that line is crossed, and have on multiple occasions given warnings, and even bans for such behavior.
As for the idea of PG-13, let me start by saying we take a loose approach, and do not hide that fact. In addition to that, we are pretty explicit on what is pg-13 and what is not in regards to the site. Yes, things get close to the line, but when they cross we step in.
Since this is primarily in concern to Language I will be brief about what constitutes staff stepping in.
Violence - Explicit or detailed explanations, as well as anything we perceive as threatening outside the bounds of the site.
Substances - Explicit or detailed explanations, usage, or reference in or out of character.
Sexual Content - Explicit writing of any kind, or details of sexual acts.
Language - The line between PG-13 Language, and R rated Language is high use of explicit sexual content. Meaning use of the harsher "sexually-derived words" as an expletive, or subtle references to acts of a sexual nature do not cross that line.
That being said I believe Language is the one that gets closest to the line. as well as is the reason for your suggestion,
Explicit language on site is loose, however there is a definitive line which was explained above that we will put a stop to. The biggest difference between having staff stop a conversation, and letting it slip by is subtlety, and the explicit nature of the conversation at hand. We feel no need to handle every reference to an act of sexual nature, so long as it is just that, a reference. However, as soon as any specifics are brought up the staff team, assuming we are in discord at the time, will put a stop to the conversation.
No explicit images or descriptions, please.
This is actually the number one guideline for chat, explicit is important for how a matter will be handled by staff
Which brings me back to what I started with in this comment. In order to fully address this as staff, we will need specific instances that have made you uncomfortable, and will probably have to look into this outside of the contexts of a suggestion, as this is a matter that really should be handled privately.
Now, let me start what is next with that these are my direct opinions, and in no way reflect the rest of the staff team. As a suggestion, we are all able to state our personal believes about the issue being presented.
Personally, I do not feel the discord ever gets very heavy, even though it does have often sexual references. Personally I work a black suit and tie job, with a heavy emphases on being professional, and have heard far worse from my boss, and coworkers, as well as government officials, than I have ever heard on site. In addition to that, the joking, and crass humor is a great way to relieve stress, and get a good laugh.
Personally, I would not want to see anything change.
