Beaux Phacelia
Being drunk was unusual for Beaux these days.
The angel ran a hand gently through his silver hair and let out a sigh as the warmth of hard liquor pulsed through his veins. Such liquid had not been consumed in a long, long time, as he preferred a light glass of white wine on the rare occasion that he drank. This feeling reminded him of the clubs he used to peruse, sipping on drinks gifted to him by… admirers. A soft groan came from his mouth when a pulse rippled through his pretty head. I’m going to regret this tomorrow, Beaux thought, I don’t know what got into me today. He couldn’t have helped the situation though. While out and about in Rose Garden on a shopping trip, the young man had stopped at a tavern to try some of the local wines. As he had sat alone at a table in the corner of the room, his eyes caught those of a man amongst a group of rambunctious men sitting at the bar. They had been jostling each other, laughing, taunting, and challenging each other to take shots. The man had approached and dragged Beaux to the group, despite any protests. Somehow the angel had found himself taking part in the chaos, shot after shot burning its way to his stomach. After hours of fun, the men had all passed out on the tavern floor in piles, snoring their hearts out.
So Beaux found himself again wandering Rose Garden, attempting to walk like a sober person would, but failing miserably. Among the tavern craziness, somehow the angel’s wings had come out of his shirt. They now sat limply against his back. It was hard to tell if the mage didn’t care about the stares of passerbys, or secretly enjoyed the attention.
A voice rang out on the street, but his brain was unable to process the words. “Hmm?...” Beaux looked up to see a woman approaching, wearing a brown and pink outfit with the words Fiore’s Finest Chocolates printed across the front. “Excuse me sir, are you busy? Could you help our company out really quick?”
“Of course!” Though the angel was quite obviously drunk, his pride wouldn’t let him turn down someone in need. Standing up straight, he smiled charmingly at the woman. “How may I help, Mademoiselle?”
“Er…” a flush of pink tinted her cheeks, “O-our company is in need of two people to help us transfer chocolates to the other side of town. It’s almost Valentine’s day and we’re behind on shipments! We also have a new magical system we’d like the volunteers to try out. Will you help?”
“Gladly! I- oh!” Beaux’s words were cut off by the woman grabbing his hand and pulling him into a nearby building with extravagant design and colors. Inside, she let go of his hand and stopped next to a stack of chocolate boxes on a cart. Handing him a clipboard with some papers and a pen, she indicated at the bottom where he ought to sign. Baby blue eyes scanned over the paper, not processing a single word except marriage.
“You… want me and another person to get married?...” A perplexed expression crossed the angel’s face as the alcohol in his system slowed his processing ability.
“Only temporarily! It’s just to test out a new marriage magic that our mother company created. Once you’re done delivering the chocolates it will dissipate. Don’t worry about it!” The woman beamed in excitement.
That was all the convincing that Beaux’s distracted brain needed. Signing the paper with a flourish, he handed it back to the lady.
“So… might I ask where is the other person is?”
“He should be here shortly.”
He? A truly angelic expression graced Beaux’s drunken face. Perhaps this would be fun after all!
