    Spoiler:
I've been out there and seen the things she's made

How Mythal kept getting drafted into these supernatural jobs, he would never really know. He'd been minding his own business, actually taking a day off for once, when Branwen had contacted him. Apparently the old bastard was in need of a reliable wizard to pair up with a higher ranked wizard to complete a very difficult job. And since no other reliable wizard was around, Branwen had said, he had opted to send the job to the God Slayer. After cursing the old man out, he had asked what the job entailed. Apparently it was quite the doozy.

There had once been a blade of magic that was blessed by the gods themselves -- or so it was said. It was a weapon meant to symbolize the holiness of peace and prosperity and was gifted to a royal family that embodied those attributes. It was meant to be a guarantee that, as long as they ruled, there would be peace within their kingdom. Unfortunately such claims always attract attention and a kingdom nearby decided to invade and prove that such fanatical folklore was nothing against physical might. And indeed, the invaders crushed the kingdom and slaughtered the family. As proof of their victory, they took the blade and shattered it into multiple pieces, spreading them all over Fiore. Only the hilt was left, as a reminder of what had happened.

The priests of the Holy Castle had come to possess the blade and, after much debate, decided to put it back together so they could mount it as a sigil of their lord's grace. They contacted the Rune Knights in hopes of finding some capable wizards of aiding them and from there, Branwen was in charge of finding someone else. It seemed he had chosen to split the task, as he had heard that the shards had come to take on a dark presence within the shattered blade. Mythal was the first and the other was... someone by the name of Johann. Now it was odd because the Rune Knight major definitely made it sound like Johann was quite the big deal in the world. There was an air of privilege that Mythal should feel to be partnered with such an illustrious wizard...

But Mythal honestly had no idea who he was. The name didn't spark any kind of recognition in him and he simply rolled with the assumption that he should feel honored to be taking part in the job. A job was a job to him and as long as this Johann fellow was reliable, he didn't really care who or what he was. He did think about taking some time before he left to look up the name but then decided against it, mostly because it would require more effort than needed. After all, whatever people write about on the Lacrima-net wasn't usually indicative of what a person was in reality. Better to get an opinion by meeting the man first hand.

Mythal took his lacrimacycle all the way to the Haunted Castle, braving steep and winding roads as he went. When he came upon the large stone structure, he pulled into the roadway that curled right in front of it and stopped there. The Rune Knights were already posted there, in a small group of five talking amongst one another. It didn't look like Branwen was there -- he probably relegated other Knights to do the dirty work while he simply supervised. “Lazy bastard," Mythal said as he brought his bike to a stop and kicked the stand out. He stood up and pulled the helmet off his head, dropping it onto the handles of the bike. His hands went to his pants pockets as he strode over to the Knights, already separating themselves to greet him.

"Mythal!" The one right in front greeted him with all the friendliness one could have in their body. The God Slayer cocked a single brow as he looked at the face and then sighed. It was the same kid he had met in the training yard some weeks back, the same one who had been posted in Hargeon when that strange tower had come from the sea. Just his luck he would find the guy again here. "Good to you see."

“Yeah, you too," Mythal said, stopping in front of him. “Got stuck doin' Branwen's dirty work?"

"Nope! When he told me you'd be taking part in the job, I knew I had to come and see you!" The Knight responded, smiling bright. Ah, he couldn't knock the kid for being excited about taking part in the more adventurous parts of the job. The first time he had met him, the kid had been annoyed he wasn't out slaying monsters and saving damsels. Now here he was, grinning like an idiot over a mere delivery job. How times changed.

“Great," Mythal shot back, with a severe lack of enthusiasm. “Is Johann here? I'm 'bout ready to get this job goin',"

The Exorcism Empty Re: The Exorcism

Post by Shen Kadokawa 8th January 2019, 7:58 am

With a slight shock and a deep exhale, Johann von Weiss, Vice President of the West Fiore Trading Company, opened his eyes, the ceiling of his room the first thing that dominated his senses. The silver-haired male took a few deep, heavy breaths, raising his hand to his forehead and wiping away the cold sweat before sitting up in his bed, taking a quick glance around. The same dream again, the visions of raging columns of flame and smoke still clear before his inner eye, the scorching heat and all-consuming fire of hell, the rough, hoarse voice of Berith, and the burning pain as he was pushed into the molten rock. It wasn't like the man slept much or needed much sleep, either, but ... why? Why was it that every time he did find some rest that this very same dream would return to him? Was this the curse he would have to live with for the rest of his times? The VP had many questions, and little to no ways to get any sort of answer to them. It would always be the same, wouldn't it? It was at this moment Johann noticed the puppy that had jumped onto the bed, now sitting in the sheets before him, her tail waving from side to side as Cris stared at him expectantly. "Hey girl", a smile curling up the edges of his lips as he gave her a gentle pet. "Did I wake you up? Sorry about that".

With both hands, the VP carefully lifted the golden retriever puppy up and set her down, the small creature spinning gleefully, letting out a low-pitched bark. "You hungry?", Jo asked, on a fundamental level getting the sense that, if the puppy had been able to give an enthusiastic, determined nod, this was the time she would have. "Let's get you something, then". In a sense, Johann's days had gotten a lot brighter since he had picked up the little stray on the streets of Anhew, the sometimes days long periods of him working through the West Fiore Trading Company's incredible amounts of paperwork interrupted with what seemed like purpose. Of course, he had to take care of the small creature and manage his responsibilities as a Vice President both at the same time, but it was more than manageable. Besides, he enjoyed the puppy's company. She did not set any conditions, she did not expect much, was well behaved, and no matter the day or the time, always happy, it seemed. Perhaps the man simply longed for distraction, perhaps he failed to realize just how valuable time off had gotten over the past year, and with everything that had happened throughout it, perhaps he even missed how much he truly needed a break.

So it happened that Jo, dressed in his usual, white uniform of the West Fiore Trading Company, closely resembling a blank, formal shirt and a white vest paired with a similarly achromatic set of pants and shoes, had found himself on the road to the Headquarters Building of the Company, lazily holding the Cris' leash in one hand, coming back from another walk with the young retriever. The weather on Tolgalen was still quite fresh, no oddity considering the season, though the day was clear, the light breeze of salty ocean wind reminding Jo of the magic he once wielded. The events that had robbed him of his body, and subsequently his magic, had taken place a while back, but the memory was still fresh in the man's mind. Stepping back through the entrance, one large mahogany door to each side, the temperature was instantly brought back to enjoyable levels though, luckily. The inside of the entrance hall looked the same always, the ornately and expensively decorated interior filled with the usual people, clients who came to set up contracts, traders and merchants seeking to register their wares for shipping, and of course the uniformly dressed employees of the Trading Company.

Eyeing the stairs that led up to the open first floor, Johann lifted Cris up to carry the puppy, already somewhat surprised by the fact that he had gotten a few steps in and nobody had yet approached him for- "Ah, Johann, there you are!". He sighed when the familiar voice of Alisha, the Company's secretary, rang out. Of course, he wouldn't be able to catch a break, there was always something that had to be done, the CEO and the other VPs mysteriously unavailable for that event. "I have a mission for you. I think the Magic Council is requesting you by name", the last part causing the VP to lift a brow. "By name, you say?". Of course, he was aware he had been given a fancy title by the Magic Council of Fiore, for ... well, for something he had done, apparently, "God of Ishgar", they called it. A title apparently attached to immense renown and widespread recognition as a force of good, yet, wherever he went, the people still behaved normally, nobody treated him differently here on Tolgalen, and so he had disregarded it for the time being. "Of course," he now couldn't help but think "of course there were strings attached".

And so, Johann had found himself at this ominous castle a day and a short teleportation spell later, not quite sure why exactly he was here or what exactly he was supposed to do. The Rune Knights had quite the presence here, however, and he had been told that there was another mage who would accompany him on this mission. Something connected to some sort of blade? He didn't really know nor care for the details, not if it was the MC he was dealing with. Though ... the Rune Knights would at least pay, and, although he greatly disliked being treated like a tool that had to be available on-demand, that fact kept him from outright leaving without another thought. So, waiting patiently with the knights guarding this place, a laughable attempt at security, really, Johann finally breathed a sigh of relief when he heard his name and spotted the one asking for it, approaching with firm steps and stopping before the other man who seemed to be engaged in conversation with a Rune Knight. "Yes, he is"

"May I", Johann raised his right hand to his shoulder, giving the stranger a short, but respectful bow, "Johann von Weiss, Vice President of the West Fiore Trading Company". Now that the formal introduction was out of the way, he relaxed a little. Of course, his old self would've thrown out something like "pleased to make your acquaintance, good sir", while for now, he would stick to a simple "Nice to meet you". Of course, there was one more thing left open to the God of Ishgar. "So, uh, don't mean to be rude", he would follow up with a weak smile, the facade of the professional exec slipping away more and more, "but I don't exactly know why I'm here. If anyone could help me out ...".

Post by Mythal Ragnos 9th January 2019, 9:34 pm

I've been out there and seen the things she's made

This guy was some kind of executive?

Mythal honestly couldn’t believe it when he heard a voice owning up to the name of Johann and he turned around to face him. Rather than what one might describe as a conventional looking wizard, he was looking at a man dressed like he was attending a business meeting. He was wearing a clean, crisp white shirt that had been pressed and tailored, a vest wrapping it tightly to the man’s body. His pants and shoes bore the same lack of color and, with the sun in the sky, he was practically giving off a white glow. The God Slayer narrowed his gaze a little, the brightness of him bothering his eyes surprisingly. He gave him a respectful bow, introducing himself as Johann von Weiss, a Vice President in the… West Fiore Trading Company? “West Fiore what?” he asked rather bluntly, having never heard of such a thing. He assumed, given the name and the way he was dressed, that it was some kind of big jewel corporation that traded goods throughout Fiore – as dull as that seemed an explanation.

But there was no need to be needlessly rude. “Yeah, you too,” he said back to kind sentiment. “Mythal of Fairy Tail. Guess I’m yer partner for the day,” he said with a small shrug. But Johann immediately followed that up with a question pertaining to why he was here in the first place. They hadn’t informed him about the job? Mythal blinked, honestly trying to wrap his head around the idea. He had come without any prior knowledge of what he was meant to do? How did… how did that even happen?

He turned to face the familiar Rune Knight but only found air where his face had been only a moment ago. He glanced down to find the group of men and women on a single knee, bowing before the two of them. Though if he were to guess, there was a good chance they were bowing to the newly arrived Vice President. “Mr. von Weiss,” the self-same Rune Knight said, all the friendly warmth in his voice replaced with cold, hard respect. “It truly is an honor to make your acquaintance.” The God Slayer turned back slightly, just enough to eye Johann warily and curiously. All this regard and appreciation for a Vice President of a company? Seemed awfully… grandiose. Just what the hell was he getting into?

“My apologies for the hurried request but the Major Branwen has recently received some disturbing news and we knew we needed someone of your caliber to help with it,” the Rune Knight explained, still not rising to his feet. “There has been a string of strange deaths occurring around all of Fiore, each victim dying from what seems to be corrupted magic. When we sent a group to investigate, they discovered a metal shard that seemed to be from a sword. Luckily our protection spells were enough to keep our men from perishing but they weren’t able to get too close as the aura seemed to expand and… lose its temper. We conducted some research and discovered that there was a blade that was shattered many years ago during a raid. It was a Holy weapon, given to a long-dead royal family as a gift from the gods.” Mythal fought back the need to snort at the idea of a god gifting anything. “The priests from the Holy Castle believe that the sword has been stewing in its broken form, corrupted by the anguish of its defeat. That corruption is now corporeal and causing agony. We wish to reform the blade, in hopes of removing the corruption and keeping anyone else from losing their lives but we also believed that disturbing the shards might… have violent side effects. We need strong wizards to help us acquire the shards and bring them here, where we can have our forge master rebuild the weapon.”

He extended a hand back to another one of the Rune Knights, summoning him to walk forward. The man stood up briefly and came forward, bringing forth a wrapped bundle. He gently unfolded it and revealed the hilt of a sword, old and worn from having been stored away for so long. It had been severed right at the guard, leaving no trace of the blade that had once called it home. “We have the hilt already. We just need your assistance in retrieving the other pieces. We managed to create a device that is able to track the corrupted aura, so you’ll be able to follow it right to the source. Major Branwen simply asks that you be careful – we still don’t know what will happen when you touch the fragments so you must be wary. We’ve also brought forth some defensive spell scrolls in case you feel like you need them.”

Johann glanced from the Rune Knight to the man, who had now introduced himself as "Mythal of Fairy Tail", and back, in honesty somewhat perplexed by this whole situation. He did not deal with the Rune Knights much, of course, explaining some of the ... logistical issues he had with them, but he lightened up when Mythal mentioned Fairy Tail. Of course, some of his friends were in that guild, and the West Fiore Trading Company was currently in a defensive pact with the guild as well. "Fairy Tail ... I see. I have worked with quite a few of your comrades. If you're my partner for the day ...", Johann gave the man a friendly smile and a nod, "... then I'm perfectly content. We are in an alliance, after all". He figured a short prompt would be adequate since the other mage seemed unaware of the West Fiore Trading Company was as a whole. However, apart from that, the fact that the silver-haired male remained uninformed about the job still, his head swerving hastily when everyone had suddenly started kneeling before him. This was the first time something like this had ever happened. The Vice President almost turned red. "W-what ? Please, don't ...", taking a second to straighten his back and regain his composure, continuing, embarrassed, but with commanding voice. "Don't kneel for me, please. Frankly, I'm just another mage, just another man. Stand up", sighing under his breath, hopefully without anyone noticing.

Why was it that people were doing all these things suddenly? Saying it was an honour to meet him, even going as far as kneeling before him. Of course, they weren't truly respecting Johann von Weiss, they were respecting the title that had been, more or less willingly, bestowed to him, depending on which side you would ask. In honesty, Johann quite disliked these gestures ... they carried with them a sort of pretentious undertone. Then again, the silver-haired Vice President of the West Fiore Trading Company wasn't exactly the biggest fan of the Magic Council and their rather ... eccentric following. Of course, the explanation he had requested followed suit, but ... the guy still wouldn't stand up. Would these people seriously not listen to him? Was this some kind of military doctrine he didn't understand? He could only speculate, deciding to ignore that from now on. He couldn't exactly get angry, nor did he intend on conforming to this degrading practice. Instead, he would listen to the rather thorough description of events that had occurred, the tale of the blade, how it had been scattered across Fiore, how it had turned from something holy, something sacred into a catalyst of curse and bitterness. And, of course, he listened closely when the Rune Knight finally got around to explaining why Mythal and himself had been called here. It was quite the task. To think that out of everyone, all the mages at their disposal, they had contacted him, it annoyed the VP to no end. He had much more important things to do, or rather, waste his time on, but ... alas, he was here officially representing the Trading Company. Turning away now and leaving the people of Fiore hanging, so to speak, would undoubtedly be a blow to the WFTC's arguably spotless reputation.

"I'm glad to assist where I can, in this case", Johann responded promptly and with, at least outwardly, convinced tone. "Are you really though, old man? Just think about all this work you'll have to do", Mars, the Lord of War now finally making himself known as well, the deep, almost distorted voice echoing through the depths of his consciousness. Even if he couldn't see, he could feel the creature's sly grin curling up the edges of his mouth. "Are you really the errand boy for these cretins, mortal?", the Second Seal seemed audibly amused. "For the time being, it appears like I have no other choice. Besides, I can't exactly walk away from people dying, can I?". "You mortals are so ... sentimental. A few more or less surely won't matter, right?". Johann ignored that comment. The Seal had his own opinions, arguing was pointless. "Well, you can give the hilt to me. I'll make sure to look after it. That device you can give Mythal here ... if he has no objections, that is", he added, just in case the other would reject this suggestion. "I'll be fine without scrolls, but ...", the next part directed at both the Rune Knights and his new "partner", "... where do we have to go first, anyway?". It didn't really matter too much either way. He would, of course, follow wherever they would send him for these 7 pieces of the blade.

The Exorcism Empty Re: The Exorcism

Post by Mythal Ragnos 19th January 2019, 11:49 pm

I've been out there and seen the things she's made

Well, it was a relief to know that Johann had worked with Fairy Tail before and didn’t consider it a hindrance. He’d dealt with plenty of people that had stiffened as he mentioned being part of the former dark guild, even if they eased up afterwards. Mythal noticeably relaxed as the man revealed this but then he, in turn, stiffened a bit in confusion. Wait, they were in an alliance? Fairy Tail was allied to this… West Fiore Treatment Company? That was new information he hadn’t expected to hear – he’d been part of the guild for some months now and had never heard mention of any kind of alliance. It was entirely possible that he had gotten a memo or a message about it, or maybe Arcadia had mentioned it during his tour. Either way, it was news to him now. “Right. Alliance,” he said, simply choosing to confirm the info rather than look idiotic and ask questions. Easier to do that with his own guild rather than with an almost total stranger.

It looked like Johann was just as uncomfortable with the Rune Knights bowing to him as Mythal was. The God Slayer’s eyes flitted between the two parties, watching quietly as the Vice-President stammered for a quick moment before he regained his composure long enough to ask the men to stand. And as if he were a commanding officer, they listened; each one of them snapping back to their feet and continuing without a remark or apology. He hadn’t introduced himself as part of the Rune Knight Order… was he a Magic Council member? Or maybe…? Yes, maybe that was it. During his tenure as a Rising Star, he’d heard mention of what generally came for those that had proven themselves not only powerful wizards but capable individuals in the council’s eyes. Wizard Saints, they had been called. Maybe the man standing beside him, the man meant to be his partner for this job, was one of them. He greatly regretted not doing his homework this time.

Whatever the case, the job ahead of them didn’t sound like a short or easy one. Gathering the pieces of a broken sword using a lacrima radar was… tiresome, at best. But if these shards were giving off auras of corruption that were hurting people; then a solution was clearly needed. Johann offered to take the hilt and the Rune Knight stepped forward, offering it to him fully. Once it was handed off, it seemed Mythal was offered the radar at Johann’s insistence, though he walked back to state that it was up to him to carry it. “Uh… sure, no problem,” he said, shrugging. The other Rune Knight stepped forward and handed him a small rounded device, looking more like a pocket watch than a radar.

“You click the top button to expand or contract the map, giving you a better idea of where the shards are,” the familiar Rune Knight continued to explain, stepping forward to demonstrate. He pressed the larger button and the map expanded outward, making more of the map visible. There was also a bright light that was ebbing and flowing against the backdrop of the land. “That’s a shard nearby, in the Phoenix Mountains. We had already identified it as the closet fragment and figured you two would wish to head there first.”

“Closest is always best,” Mythal remarked, tucking the device into his jacket pocket. As the Rune Knight offered the opportunity to take some scrolls for protection, both men seemed to be of the same mind. “I much prefer to just… punch anything before it gets a chance to get me,” the God Slayer explained with yet another shrug, showing a clear ambivalence to the danger. With that all set, it seemed they were ready to head out. Mythal turned and nodded to his lacrimacycle. “I got a sidecar attached to that if you want to ride as close to the mountains as possible. Either that or if you can fly, I can do that too. Seems like you’ve been named the leader of our little troupe so… guess its your choice.”
