Personality:
The Good:
- Spoiler:
Adaptive:
Faustein’s almost never been one to become stressed by the challenges that any given situation may throw his way. He almost always takes things in stride and so, won’t hesitate to change anything about himself, his possessions, his modus operandi, his work materials, and even his life to suit the new demands put before him. So, he can function optimally in almost any associated situation he may encounter in his daily life, any jobs he goes on, in his medical & surgical magic research, etc.
Bold:
Faustein is almost never daunted by the prospect of venturing into uncharted territories or those that others are unwilling to touch with a 10 foot pole. This is true whether it be in his medical & surgical magic research, in his daily work as a doctor, or in the various jobs he accepts from his clientèle. As a result, he can almost always pursue his interests or anything required of him regardless of the nature of the task with almost no hesitation whatsoever.
Calm:
Faustein almost always keeps his wits about him. He virtually never lets his emotions cloud his mind. So, he is almost always able to make wise decisions and implement them efficiently in almost any situation.
Careful:
Faustein is almost never unprepared for any situation that presents itself to him. This is because in order to avoid as many mistakes as possible, he always tries to take the time necessary to investigate the matter before hand as much as possible. For this purpose, he can uses various surveillance devices which he surreptitiously plants either at the site of his upcoming operation or on any drone he may send in before he arrives here in person (note: these drones can be anything and anyone: his allies, his enemies, or otherwise).
Driven:
Sometimes, his innate, insatiable curiosity is brought to the surface by some subject before him or some situation that he may encounter as he goes about his business. If this happens, almost always, he ends up so highly and powerfully aroused such that the urge to pursue whatever or whomever has awakened his curiosity consumes him entirely. In these situations, Faustein will often display a fierce, unrelenting energy that makes him seem almost like a man possessed as he goes about investigating whatever or whomever is the object of his curiosity/potential study specimen.
Impartial:
As far as possible, Faustein does not discriminate against anyone or anything and can work with almost anyone of any alignment or anything else about them if necessary. When it comes to test subjects, he can and will use anyone and anything he may encounter in his life. If he doesn’t have any such suitable guinea pig for whatever experiment he wants to do, he will even use himself without any reservations or even the least bit of hesitation as often as the situation lets him.
Methodical:
As a student of the sciences and especially of the medical & surgical magic arts, Faustein has been taught to be systematic in how he deals with a situation or goes about performing any given task. As a result, he always endeavors to follow a definite sequence of steps from beginning to end. So, he almost always reaches from start to finish successfully as per his plans.
Patient:
Faustein is not only methodical, but also a very patient man, within reason of course. He fully realizes that any experiment or situation, big or small, should be handled with care and will take its own time to reach completion/resolution. So, over the years, in order to minimize the number of mistakes he may end up making, he has consciously developed a slow and steady approach to whatever he does and to handling whomever he may have to interact with either on a job, in his research, or even among his patients/clientèle.
Perceptive:
Faustein has always been observant right from childhood, but over the many years in which he has been alive so far, he has developed insight which, when used together with his innately superior eye for detail, makes him seem almost clairvoyant, when he doesn’t really have any such ability. This superlative perspicacity of his comes in real handy in virtually every situation whether that be on a job, in his research, in his daily life, or otherwise since it allows him to see through any trickery or strategies employed to beguile him. As a result, he can almost always realize the truth behind the occurrences in his current situation after which, he can use the information he has learned to break down the problem he happens to be facing into its constituent parts in order to devise a nearly lethal and highly effective counter-attack that can resolve said problem in full once and for all.
Strategic:
Faustein always tries to keep the big picture in mind and tries to ensure that he stays 3 steps ahead of not only his enemies, but his allies as well. He tries to combine this knowledge as best he can with his uncannily high degree of tactical analysis, critical judgement, and high pressure planning skills so that he can almost always ensure the situation is virtually always in his favor, and afterwards, in favor of his side or the party that he happens to be representing in a given situation. This is true whether it be on a job, in his research, in his daily life, or otherwise.
Thorough:
Whenever Faustein deals with any situation, he does his level best to see it through to completion without leaving any loose ends whatsoever. So, he will quite often neutralize not only the main problematic element, but any and all related ones as well as a result of which, any remnants from the situation almost never come back to haunt him after the situation has been resolved in its entirety. This also means that anyone who hires him can almost always be sure he will stick with them loyally from the time they hire him till such a time that he has completed the task for which they chose him, for better or worse [unless he gets bored of dealing with the situation, of course].
Good & Bad:
- Spoiler:
Ambitious:
Faustein is never satisfied with what he has in any situation. So, he continually attempts to reach ever greater heights no matter how dangerous they may be to him since what he has achieved thus far will not be enough to stimulate his mind and sate his curiosity after a while. This can be both a blessing and a curse for while it can always keep him refining his skills and achieving more and more ground-breaking results in due course, his quests to do so may end up pulling him into a situation where he may just be in truly mortal peril due to his quest.
Confident:
Faustein’s faith in himself as well as his own abilities and worth as an individual is virtually unshakeable. So, he always displays this almost ironclad confidence in his all thoughts, words, and deeds. This can be both a good thing and a bad thing since it makes him immune to doubt and hesitation in his pursuits at some critical juncture, but because of its influence, he may become too prideful and underestimate his opponents or some other danger he encounters in a given situation one time too many and suffer defeat as a result.
Curiosity:
Faustein’s curiosity about anything and anyone new and mysterious is something that is virtually unrivalled in this world. His one main wish is to one day unlock the primeval truth about the world around him and the innumerable number of phenomena in it which he believes has long been hidden from mortal eyes. This is both a positive and a negative at the same time because even though it causes him to constantly push the boundaries of knowledge that the world knows about magic, its origins, and everything related to it ever further with each attempt, it may get him into trouble with those around because his insatiable curiosity about anything and anyone new and mysterious has driven him to break the ethical limits which others are unwilling to cross regardless of the situation.
Dispassionate:
Faustein is a man whose thoughts, words, and deeds are almost always devoid of emotional turbulence and he tries his best to always mentally distance himself from the situation at hand. This is so he can observe it from the viewpoint of an uninterested third party and determine what he has to do solely based on cold logic and hard reason thus ensuring that his course of action is always as optimal as is possible within the realm of human capacity, magical or otherwise. However, while it affords him this benefit, it also means he is virtually incapable of ever appreciating someone’s more emotional reasons for doing something and can almost never empathize with their situation as a result of which, if they need his help, they will not be able to inspire him to come to their aid very often, thus making this quality both a plus and a minus, simultaneously.
Humorous:
Faustein is not without some modicum of humor. However, unlike that of most normal people, his humor is one that is usually obscure, dry, sarcastic, and sometimes even utterly dark in nature. To him, most of the time, it’s just an effective tool that he can use to rile people up to throw them off their game in the hopes of making them much easier to either defeat completely or to manipulate to in order to fulfil whatever purpose he wants them to in a given situation. This is both a blessing and a curse for even though it lets him make people lose their cool more easily in order to eventually defeat or manipulate them more easily, it can also rile them up to the point that they actively start to seek his destruction or some other form of revenge against him on those occasions where he takes pleasure and laughs in his usual maniacal way at their discomfiture.
Theatrical:
Usually, he just cuts right to the chase and delivers his message without any preamble adorned in flowery language, but every now and then, the spirit of the theater or perhaps the phantom of the opera may possess him, causing him to make saying whatever he wants to say or do whatever he wants to do into a big, unnecessarily melodramatic performance. While under the influence of this, as part of his showy performance, he just wont be able to resist keeping his audience in suspense in order to build up dramatic tension with all sorts of shenanigans like fancy poses, overblown introductions, donning needlessly elaborate attire, and so on. This can be useful to him because he does have enough talent with the theatrical arts that he can use them to successfully disguise himself to throw off any would be pursuers or assassins or to let him infiltrate any group he needs to in order to accomplish whatever purpose he has in store for them and complete the task assigned to him, but it can also be a burden to him because it may just end up turning those around him against him, especially if they are the type who happen to dislike such melodrama.
The Bad:
- Spoiler:
Amoral:
Unlike most normal folks, Faustein doesn’t have a sense of morality in him. This is because he has long since abandoned his after finding that they were just holding him back from his heart’s most fervent desire, that is, being able to uncover the truth of this world through whatever means are necessary to do it, his way involving ceaseless experimentation, both on himself and on others, both ally and enemy alike. As a result, he has no qualms at all which can hold him back from doing/exploring the so called morally reprehensible things and approaching/associating with other such morally grey individuals that are shunned by others, especially if doing such things means he can acquire the means to gain the immense degree of power and knowledge that he no doubt needs to one day accomplish his lifelong goal of witnessing the ultimate truth behind all the various phenomena, both natural and magical, that are seen occurring in the world, whether that be Earthland or even beyond it.
Eccentric:
Faustein is a man who is quite nonconformist in anything regarding himself, his profession, his research, or even in his daily life. He neither needs to, nor wants to march to the beat of the commonplace drum of good and/or evil that the rest of society dances to so blissfully while restricting themselves to their own little comfort zones. However, he does not do this simply because he wants to rebel against society, but because quite often, he finds that adhering to the “proper” and “official” channels impedes him from making the true level of progress in anything regarding himself that he knows he can accomplish by ignoring such things and instead simply proceeding with reaching his goals in his own way, using his own judgement to make his decisions, and by using his own methods to implement the decisions he makes in order to clear the objectives he sets for himself.
Frightful:
Due to all the quirks Faustein possesses, whether they be big or small and whether they be in his thoughts, words, or deeds; he is often regarded as someone sinister and quite intimidating, by both friend and foe in equal measure. However, he does not care whether others are scared of him or not. In fact, he even uses this as a tool to get to his goal in a given situation faster if he finds that displaying such intense blood-lust works to his advantage.
Indolent:
If he has not succumbed to the fierce energy that pervades his entire being and pursuing his study of and experimentations on whatever or whomever interests him at any given moment, Faustein usually spends his days longing about in a state of what could only be called extreme torpor. This can be so evident and exaggerated at times that some people in his rather small social circle actually consider him to be the epitome of sloth and often wonder whether he hasn’t just gone and kicked the bucket, so to speak. The truth of the matter is that if there is nothing going on and no one in his presence or maybe under his scrutiny that can arouse his slumbering curiosity to a high enough degree, he just cannot be bothered to get up and get going to do something or another, which in turn, leads to these spells during which he totally lacks any semblance of vim and vigor.
Irreverent:
To Faustein, there is nothing that can be held as truly sacred in this world other than the pursuit of the knowledge and power which he is constant pursuit of in order to reach his one main life goal. As a result, he has a hard time obeying any command and adhering to the wishes of others which are centered around something they consider holy, sacred, or divine, although if such people actually have more power than he does in a certain situation or something else they can offer to convince him, he just maybe swayed by that and go along with whatever farcical they expect him to do for them. For instance, he would even go so far as to go through the trouble of calling forth “divine” or “sacred” beings from other worlds and infiltrating those places in Earthland which the rest of the world considers sacrosanct and avoids trifling with as a result, often times just so he can experiment on/with them if he happens to be interested in the mechanisms behind their existence and their abilities.
Manipulative:
Faustein is one who loves to see anything and anyone dance to his tunes and so endeavors to make this happen to the best of his ability. This is true whether it be just so he can laugh at them as he watches their reactions when they finally realize that he has been manipulating them all along or even if it’s because he needs them for some purpose or another. Actually, he is so good at accomplishing this in so subtle a manner that, quite often, he can simply maneuver his enemies and allies in such a way that slowly but surely, the situation turns in his favor with the victory of allies and/or the defeat of his enemies which then leads to the situation at hand practically solving itself while he can kick back, enjoy the show, and while doing so, to the untrained observer, he will look like he isn’t doing anything at all to influence the events that end up transpiring in those circumstances.
Oblivious:
Despite all his brilliance, his superior perspicacity, and his well above average analytical skill; many a time, Faustein finds himself to be completely immune to the emotional atmosphere of his present surroundings. He can almost never read the mood of those around him or that of his present situation in general, so he ends up not realizing how people feel, either about him or whatever else, and so, quite often he ends up being quite tactless and unable to respond to them, especially in the area of romance and women of whom there have been a fair few in his past that he has unknowingly driven away due to his inability to understand and respond appropriately to their feelings of romantic affection towards him. However, sexual attraction is something he can definitely understand due to it being part and parcel of the physiology and anatomy of nearly all flesh and blood entities, including himself (even if he does not actually make an active effort to pursue it).
Obsessive:
Like any true mad scientist/demented doctor worth their salt, Faustein is also one who is absolutely “married to his work”, this work being his one true goal which is his attempt to discover the truths behind all the mysteries of the world around him and those of magic as well in all its forms, whether it be the one used in his family or those of the rest of the world, but only if they pique his curiosity. As a result of his fascination with the mysteries of nature and magic which reaches and even crosses into the realm of outright obsession, he neither cares for nor has time for the pursuit of any sort of physical or emotional attachment of any sort to anyone else beyond the level required for him to either use them successfully for his experiments or work with them as his associates, even if that means he will be alone his entire life. This quality also means that whenever he is immersed in one of his many experiments, he will very often be almost oblivious to everything and everyone around him and tends to either be curt with them if they try to approach him or ignore them outright while stubbornly refusing to abandon his experiment regardless of the ramifications he may face in the future due to his obstinacy.
Psychotic:
Behind his rather convincing veneer of sanity and some remote semblance of normalcy which he struggles to put up so that the powers on high and/or their agents do not come to arrest him and lock him in the loony bin, there is a definite undercurrent of true madness. Most of the time, he manages to keep this spirit of madness under control, but occasionally, if there is a strong enough stimulus from something or some in his vicinity, then this insanity of his can and will rear its ugly head. Should this transpire, he will definitely succumb to and revel in the satiation of his darker urges and while under the influence of this impulse, he quite often dances and speaks using his broken soul all while wearing a truly disconcerting maniacal smile on his lips and uttering truly twisted words.
Sadistic:
When the mood strikes him, Faustein can be quite cruel to those around him, regardless of the nature of his connection to them. Whenever he succumbs to this urge, he often prey on sensitive topics in order to get under the other party’s skin and his words turn from their usual facetious sarcasm to ones that are outright caustic and disparaging in an attempt to debilitate the other party psychologically. When he is like this, instead of dealing with them quickly, he loves to take his sweet time toying with whomever or whatever he happens to be dealing with, slowly but surely breaking them down by torturing them to the point they may either beg him to put them out of their misery or surrender to him and throw themselves upon his mercy, of which he usually has not even an iota in his entire being.
Tricky:
Faustein is an incorrigible trickster and was this way right from childhood. He has always loved tricking and beguiling those around him after which he could laugh at their plight. As a result, now both in battle and outside it, he constantly tries to lay traps and other forms of subterfuge for those around him so that in the end, he can either enjoy watching their futile struggle to extricate themselves from his traps, catch them to use as his experimental guinea pigs of which he always needs more, or lead them to defeat themselves, thereby saving him the irksome effort of exerting himself to do it (especially if the ones in question happen to be his opponents/enemies).
Unpredictable:
Although his underlying madness wavelength does not usually show itself clearly, it does influence him to some extent by making him almost completely unpredictable. This means just when people think they have him figured out, he will very often stray from his usual routine up till that point and shatter any preconceived notions they may have about him. As a result, the only thing that is certain at any time is that no one can know what he maybe thinking and what he may do at any given time.
Likes:
- Spoiler:
Experimentation:
Faustein loves to experiment on/with anything and anyone who strikes his fancy, whether they are male or female, old or young, average or above average, and so on since by doing so, he can learn what makes them tick the way do and in doing so, find some way to use them in order to increase his own powers. After he is done with his experiments though, he will never abandon them, but rather he will keep them around, not out of any sort of moral obligations to them, but because good help is always so hard to find for the purposes of experimentation, especially for him and also because they can continue to be useful to him either as sources of valuable data or for any further testing he may need them for in the future. Also, he treats every battle or encounter he has as a chance to test himself, his powers, the opposing party, their powers or anything else he may be interested in testing at that time.
Magic Exploration & Creation:
Faustein loves to study any and all magic that is unfamiliar to him/that he meets for the first time to learn how it works along with all its secrets and especially cannot resist the temptation of the chance to develop never before seen magic or never before seen applications of standard magic because doing so could very well increase his own powers greatly. He especially loves using his experimental subjects as testing grounds for the development of any new spells in his own chosen fields of magic.
Power:
Faustein loves to have power in all its forms since having more of it means he would have more freedom to not only pursue his interests and goals, but also experiment on anything and anyone of interest to his heart’s content. He also like it because it allows him the means to acquire test subjects for his experimentation and study.
Exotic/Interesting Things & Entities:
While there is not that much in the world that Faustein particularly likes in the world around him, he does fancy whatever and whomever happens to pique his insatiable curiosity. This can be any object such as some ancient artifact or relic, or some sort of unique food or drink, some type of magic unfamiliar to him, or anything else in between. It can also be familiar or especially unfamiliar lifeforms, whether they be human, beast, beast-folk, divine, demonic, or anything else in between doesn’t concern him for he like whatever and whomever he wants to like and he won’t let anyone tell him that he cannot do so. Of course, that said, his way of showing his interest in them is unlike that of most people in that he does this through trying to the best of his ability to convince them to be the newest test subjects for his various experiments.
Dislikes:
- Spoiler:
Being Manipulated/Tricked:
Faustein hates being tricked and manipulated because if he were to succumb to that, then he would not be free to pursue his goals of unlocking the mysteries of nature, magic, and the world around him on his own terms which is his one greatest wish.
Anything/Anyone Too Unbearable:
Faustein loathes anything and anyone too much for him to bear, such as: any who would nag him constantly, any who try to pry too far into his business or broach topics he doesn’t like remembering, any who would needlessly get in the way of his lifelong goals, anything and anyone too loud, anything with exceptionally strong or exceptionally bland aromas or tastes, any who would try to manipulate him, and so on. This is because they would just end up causing him undue stress and bring unnecessary trouble and melodrama into his life.
Prejudice & Persecution:
Faustein despises those who would simply give in to their fear of anything and anyone different from them/anything unknown to them because that would lead these people into unjustly persecuting those who are different from them and destroying that which they don’t understand out of their ignorance. The reason for this is that during his childhood years, he and his family also had suffered due to the petty ignorance of those around them and also because this suffering led to his entire clan’s complete annihilation, causing him much grief and pain during those dark times since it left him totally alone in the world.
Betrayal:
Faustein does not like those who bail on him after having asked for his help. This is not because he thinks they have some moral duty towards him because of hiring him, of course. It is actually because if he is hired for something, he tends to devote his all to seeing whatever task it is to completion and should the client or requester bail on him before the task is done, that would mean he has wasted a whole lot of his time, energy, and/or resources on the task and all to no avail and that would be highly irritating to him since everything are incredibly precious to him.
Motivations:
- Spoiler:
All Knowledge of the Universe:
Faustein is one who wants to discover the innermost working of all the unknown phenomena in the world which catch his interest, whether they be natural, magical, or otherwise not only for its own sake but also because then he can use the knowledge he gains from his experimentation and research to develop and hone his magecraft to the highest degree possible within the farthest limits of his prowess.
Resources:
The kind of research he is planning to undertake requires a multitude of resource types ranging from power, territory, wealth, and so on. Therefore, one of Faustein’s major goals is to acquire all of that and more so that he will not be answerable to anyone and then can pursue his life goals as much as he wants to in his lifespan, the main one among those being all the knowledge of all the phenomena in the universe which sparks his insatiable curiosity.
Acquisition of Test Subjects:
The kind of research he is planning to undertake requires a great many test subjects. So, one of his minor goals is to collect all the study subjects from around the world which strike his fancy and which can also prove capable of withstanding the duress of his experimentation upon them so that he can then use them to work towards gaining all that he wants in his life.
Freedom:
For the kind of research he wants to do, Faustein would need an immense degree of freedom in which he can operate as he sees fit. So, one of his short term primary goals is the acquisition of as great a degree of freedom as he can manage within the scope of his abilities.
Fears:
- Spoiler:
Lack of Good Test Subjects:
Faustein fears the prospect of not having good, durable test subjects because he needs such specimens in order to conduct his research and to do the sorts of experiments he wants to do in order to eventually reach his life goal and a lack of such means he can never truly accomplish what he has set out to do with his life.
Poverty:
To Faustein, poverty is not a very good situation to be in, and this is more true for him than for most other wizards/witches. This is because a lack of resources would hamper his progress towards his life goal just as much as if not more than a lack of any other resource would in the long run. This is due to the massive amount of funds that he realizes will be necessary for his kinds of experiments.
Obstructive/Rigid Laws & Social Mores:
Faustein is unnerved by these because to him, they are nothing but one giant headache to him. He also fears them because they are an equally titanic impediment to the sort of research that he has in mind for eventually reaching his life goal since they would most likely get in the way of not only the research itself but also his attempts to acquire all that he requires for his research.
Death:
As would any reasonable person, Faustein too is afraid of the Reaper coming for him. However, this is only because if he were to die, then he would not be able to explore the path toward his life goal to his heart’s content which is his one of his life goals.
