    Job Details:

"Character counts most when duty calls."

This place gave her the creeps.

Serilda suppressed a shiver, asking herself for the umpteenth time how she’d managed to get wrangled into this mess. Grave robbing was hardly becoming of any decent person, let alone a noblewoman. The way she saw it, the descendants of this supposed hero Michazuchi had a right to keep his burial grounds a secret. But, Sabertooth had been offered the job, someone needed to step up to complete it, and Serilda was the one with a holy weapon that would be more useful in these supposedly cursed lands.

She had managed to at least find the mysterious graveyard the client had mentioned. True to its name, the place was eerily silent to the point where the quiet was near about palpable. Luckily, silence itself wasn’t exactly a phenomenon that bothered Serilda much. Most people would go crazy, particularly in a graveyard, tricking themselves into hearing or seeing things that weren’t there just to fill the emptiness in their ears. Or at least, that’s how she viewed it. But not her. She accepted the quiet for what it was and would not try her emotions unless given a valid reason to.

The problem was a valid reason was entirely possible. The small bit of exposure that Serilda had to what one might call supernatural experiences had not gone over well for the Voidwalker. She used to be heavily skeptical about things like ghosts and gods and demons. Serilda believed in them now of course -- she’d encountered more than enough evidence first hand -- but they were things she considered rare occurrences. And when she did find herself face to face with something not of the mortal word, with something she didn’t understand, it was one of the few times that fright ever considered taking hold of her.

As Mythal aptly put it, Serilda was not a fan of things that went “bump in the night”.

Yet, here she was. A part of her perhaps felt more at ease with this place due to the sword Mythal had given her, a scimitar blessed with holiness that gave her extra protection against such creatures. The weapon was currently sheathed at her hip within a worn looking scabbard that was a stark contrast to the pristine blade inside. The clothes she wore were cleaned, pressed, and practically uniform. Her long white hair was pulled back into a severe bun that left no stray hair out of place, with the exception of a swath of bangs that framed one side of her face. She viewed her surroundings with ice colored eyes and a stern gaze that bespoke herself a woman of business first and foremost.

Beside her trotted a hound that was as carefree in nature as Serilda was not. The wolf was a rare breed with thick black fur that was speckled with cream along her spine, paws, and face in a pattern that closely resembled stardust. Xiuh was more than happy to just be outside, ever curious about the world around her -- though she stayed at the woman’s heels obediently, rather than give in the to temptation to venture off toward all the new and interesting smells that coaxed her sensitive nose.

The graveyard was empty, but massive. Furthermore, it had not been maintained in quite some time. Nearly all of the grave markers were overgrown with brush in some fashion. Serilda sighed to herself quietly. This was probably going to take a while, even with her Void Sense. Reaching out as far as she could with her senses, she walked slowly while searching the area around her, paying particular attention to the graves below the surface to see if she could locate any bodies that appeared to be buried with a recognizable weapon.

The Battle of Asgard Empty Re: The Battle of Asgard

Post by Shen Kadokawa 9th January 2019, 6:31 am

The Silent Cemetery. A place most desolate, really, placed right in the Cursed Lands, almost as if built with the intention of making a spooky scenery. Johann, one of the Vice President of the West Fiore Trading Company, couldn't imagine that this piece of unholy land would make a fine eternal resting place for anyone, especially taking into account the fact that the Cursed Lands were primarily populated by all things un- and supernatural. It was somewhat idiotic, but alas, the God of Ishgar had taken up the rather curious job offer from the board of the Trading Company. The little flyer had appeared overnight, and the premise of this endeavour certainly intrigued not just the silver-haired male of the West Fiore, but also Mars, his involuntarily assigned companion of sorts. The truth of the matter was, simply put, that he needed a distraction from the constant, never-ending stream of letters, forms, requests and all other manners of paperwork directed to his desk and office, Artorias, his advisor, helping as best as he could and directing some of the work away to the clerical department, allowing Johann some time to spend on other, potentially more pleasant manners of work recently. Conveniently for himself, the VP had thus decided to, after a long while of simply stumbling into missions at random or receiving direct requests from the Magic Council and the Rune Knights, seize the initiative this time around, accepting this peculiar job from the board and making his way to the Cursed Lands in the search of this "weapon" the client was speaking of.

With that thought in mind, keeping his eyes open for any oddities or anomalies, Jo was now wandering the cold, barren earth of this Silent Cemetery, walking past arrays of statues and gravestones, monuments to the fallen and deceased, immaculate no doubt, some of them at least, though strangely out of place. A particular one, an angel wielding a sword in one and a trumpet in the other hand, caught Jo's attention, his pace slowing for a few seconds before he shook his head with closed eyes, his gaze swerving back to the road that lead through this cursed place. He had had enough of angels and demons and gods and men for at least this lifetime. "Oh? Is that so? Well, let's not forget about me", Mars raised his deep, almost distorted voice from the depths of the man's subconsciousness, the words ringing through his head accompanied by cackling, almost maniacal giggling. "How could I ever forget ...", Jo was quick to respond, muttering to himself as he moved on. Johann was clad in the same set of clothing he always dressed in when out on an official mission or when he acted as a representative of the West Fiore Trading Company, the pair of spotless, white pants paired with a similarly white set of shoes, a blank formal shirt and of course the achromatic, sleeveless vest that held the guild pin in the shape of two parallel wings.

There was, of course, also the fact that this place was, rather than initially presumed, somewhat extensive, the search for this magical artefact of old centuries long gone by proving to be a little more complicated than anticipated. Well, there was always the option to scan the area. Johann sighed, closing his eyes, the image of the surrounding area with a radius of around a kilometer manifesting in his mind, slowly but surely giving him a complete overview of it. For the most part, the area seemed entirely devoid of any major signs of life, but ... there was something rather strange that popped up. For one, there were two signatures, one larger and a smaller one, not too far from where he was right now, and then, on the other side, a group of signatures, a party of 6 closing the distance quickly, seemingly with intent as they made their way to the center of this godforsaken place. That was all he needed to know.

"So, other's coming to steal the loot, steal the glory, hm?", Mars commented, audibly amused by the circumstance. Well, he hadn't come here for the spoils, really, this little venture better described as a day of vacation. His care for the weapon was negligible, and he had yet to sign any sort of contract that placed him under obligation, meaning the Company had not a bit of reputation to lose. He smirked. Perhaps this day would prove to be interesting, after all? The God of Ishgar had decided his course of action. Instantaneously, he would vanish into thin air, reappearing without sound near the two signatures from earlier, now for the first time laying eyes on both to discover that he was dealing with a woman, dressed not entirely different from himself, and quite a beautiful creature by her side. He smiled. "Heya", the greeting was unelegant, but the situation did not exactly call for any sort of formality, "Don't mean to worry you or anything along those lines, but there are about ... 6 decently strong mages coming this way. You didn't do anything to make them mad, did you? That'd be kind of bad, you know.", disregarding the female's reaction as he turned into the direction the other group was approaching from. "I'm Johann, by the way. VP of the West Fiore Trading Company. Nice to meet ya".

"Character counts most when duty calls."

If there was one thing Serilda quickly learned about searching a cemetary, it was that a lot of people were buried with a number of odd items. Perhaps it was just the mindset of a woman of privilege that had never wanted for anything in her life, but she found it rather strange that someone could hold attachment to an inanimate object so greatly that they’d take it with them to their graves. It seemed unnecessary at best, but people were weird that way.

She searched for a time, but it didn’t take long before others registered on her senses. Whether they were mages or not would not matter, as her abilities allowed her to recognize the physical shape of objects rather than their magical auras. Serilda sensed the group of six people first, feeling them coming in quickly toward the general area where she was. That would be just her luck, of course. She had no reason to assume just yet that they were hostile -- it could just be a group from another guild that had received the same job posting, as it had gone out to a number of wizarding groups. However, the fact that the group so greatly outnumbered her and the wolf was certainly concerning.

Then she felt another, single presence at another end of her senses. This graveyard was huge, but it was starting to feel rather crowded to the Voidwalker. She disliked unknowns. The wolf sensed her unease and nudged the woman’s leg a bit. “I know, girl,” Serilda said quietly, setting a steadying hand on Xiuh’s head. Her mind was racing as she sought to calculate out the best way to prepare herself for possible confrontations with the two separate groups. She was a fair hand at crowd control, but that relied heavily on how strong she was in comparison to those she was fighting.

At least one confrontation was more or less decided for her. She felt when the single individual’s physical body vanished from the world, a clear sign to her of some kind of teleportation magic. Serilda couldn’t fully know where he was going, but she didn’t have to actively think about it to assume that the person was either going to reappear closer to the group, or closer to herself. By the time the man appeared in front of her, she would already be withdrawing her sword expectantly. The scimitar glowed with a faint holy light.

She did not attack the man, however. Appearing out of nowhere was hardly a reason to be hostile, but Serilda was by herself in a strange land and she intended on being prepared. Better to offer an apology than be caught off guard by the wrong stranger. Xiuhcoatl, too, was hunched down in preparation no more than a beat after Serilda herself, not growling just yet but obviously ready to jump into battle if called.

He presented himself very similarly to her: tidy, pressed clothes that were very professional in style, and bearing an emblem that looked familiar though she did not recall it right away. Like her, he even had silvery white hair. Serilda eyed him through an even, blue gaze, calmly waiting for some kind of indication of what his intentions were in seeking her out. He did not have her wait long.

In a casual, if not friendly, tone he informed her of the other group making their way in her direction, asking if she’d done anything to draw their ire. The comments were quickly followed by a brief, informal introduction. She recognized the West Fiore Trading Company, of course. As a noblewoman whose family was involved heavily in the trading business, it was a company that she was more than aware existed though they had not done business together in the past.

After that, his name struck a familiar chord. Given her education, her training under a Rune Knight and her exposure to the group, as well as the fact that she had been born and raised in Clover where many powerful wizards amassed themselves regularly to mingle, Serilda would be hard pressed not to recognize the name of one of the Gods of Ishgar. A look of recognition passed over her face, but where many others might fall back in shock and intimidation Serilda managed to maintain her cool head and merely lowered the tip of her weapon.

“It’s an honor to meet you, Johann,” she said, bowing her head respectfully as was appropriate for a wizard of his station. “I am Serilda Sinclair, a wizard with the Sabertooth guild.” Since he had been informal with his own introduction, she followed suit -- granted, she wasn’t much for introducing herself by her noble title anyway. People either knew who she was or didn’t, and she wasn’t ever really bothered by either.

With a silent hand gesture the wolf relaxed for the moment, plopping on her rump and patiently waiting for something else to happen, though she did eye Johann with a curiosity that betrayed she wanted to go over and make his acquaintance. Serilda turned to face the same direction as the God of Ishgar, sensing the group coming ever closer. “I have not run into any others in my time here, so if I’ve done something to earn their displeasure I am unaware of it. I am merely here in response to a job posting from my guild. It was a general posting that was sent out in masse, however, so I imagine they may be here for the same reason I am. Do you have reason to believe they are hostile?”

The Battle of Asgard Empty Re: The Battle of Asgard

Post by Shen Kadokawa 17th January 2019, 1:09 pm

"An honor?", the silver-haired repeated briefly and with confused undertone. Did the woman know of him somehow? Or was that just her being polite? Either way, the Vice President of the West Fiore Trading Company couldn't imagine why it would be an honor to meet him out of all people. "Oh, Sabertooth, huh?", he thought for a quick second, tilting his head to the side in thought. He had, of course, heard of the official guild that had made some headlines in recent years, particularly in regards to the Ace of Spades incident. "Well, Serilda of Sabertooth ...", he continued after listening to her explanation of the situation and the undeniably quick question she raised, "... the reason I decided to roll with you and not with them is, well, their aura's aren't exactly ... friendly, you know?". Of course, that was a mild understatement. Their forms and magical aura's were steeped in dark, murderous intent. Well, it appeared like the woman was here for the weapon, too, so technically a rival, but ... "Truth be told, Serilda, I'm here for the weapon as well, followed the same job request, I guess. The thing is, though ...", the God of Ishgar listened closely, hushed voices in the distance announcing the impending push of the group of mages "... I came out here to have fun. So, why don't we make a deal? You get to keep the weapon and finish the job, earn the reward ...", Johann swinging his head to the side just in time for the pointy icicle launched at him to miss his head, the projectile whizzing past it at incredible speeds before impacting into the ground somewhere behind him, finishing his sentence with an anticipating smirk "... and in turn, you help me defeat those cretins". Certainly an attractive enough offer in his eyes, the man dressed in white turning completely to face the group of attackers that had arrived fully, facing the two mages from a good dozen meters away.

"Goddammit, Hela, you missed!", one of the figures whispered to the other, the words hard to pick up even with Jo's heightened senses, the other person promptly responding with the same tone, albeit with a slightly more raised voice. "It was right on, Thor! I don't know h-", the man, from the sound of it, disregarding the female, cutting her off mid-sentence, already having turned back to the two mages. "So, you're here for the legendary Daichi, aren't you?", his clamouring voice echoing over the quiet fields of the Silent Cemetary. "I am THOR, the leader of the famous Asgard guild! But I need not explain, of course, you have heard of us", Johann having to forcefully restrain Mars from taking over at this point. The Lord of War was perhaps a bit too excited for the opportunity to teach this guy a lesson, trying to push his way to the forefront of the vessel's consciousness, the struggle to keep Mars in check, however, written on his face. "You better get out of our way, weaklings, for we fight with the strength of GODS!", Johann unable to restrain the Lord of War any longer, the cackling roar of distorted, deep laughter replacing the echo of the man's voice."Tssssahahaha ... who the fuck does this clown think he is? a GOD ?! Pathetic, laughable. The sheer arrogance of you mortals is unparalleled", Thor's expression immediately changing to an angered frown, a vein on his temple swelling with rage. "Asgard! Show them the power I speak of. I, meanwhile, will go and retrieve the item. I cannot waste my time with maggots such as these. Kill them!", shouts of approval coming from the other 5 mages.

"I suppose we'll have time to get better acquainted later, Serilda", Johann spoke, once more taking control of his own consciousness, Mars, however, still present, the two sharing the vessel, as they did for most of their situations that, through some means or others more often than not ended in combat. The Lord of War could barely hide his lust for action, a wide, toothy grin spreading across the VP's face, the sclera of his left eye changing colour from its usual white to a deep charcoal hue, his iris flaring up with a burning carmine. At the same time, the runes that covered the left half of his body would burn across his skin, the normally ink-black scripture lighting up with the same red, crawling over his form before, in the end, covering it entirely, Johann and Mars finally, with a ripple of force sweeping through the air, releasing all magic power they had suppressed. The deep, almost distorted voice rang out once more, trembling with anticipation and, unsurprisingly, anger. "Now, who'll be the first to show me the power of a "god"?".

The Battle of Asgard Empty Re: The Battle of Asgard

Post by Serilda Sinclair 19th January 2019, 2:32 am

"Character counts most when duty calls."

He seemed a bit surprised that she recognized his name. Perhaps he was not used to being around people that actually took the time to stay in the know of the names of those with great power in Ishgar. There wasn’t really time to discuss it at the moment, however, as their incoming foes were quickly bearing down on them. Johann at least recognized her guild, and went on to explain that he could tell from their auras that they had ill intentions. He also advised her that he had come regarding the job posting as well, but more importantly that he’d just been looking for something to shake up his day and make it exciting. He proposed that she could reap all the benefits of the job, so long as she assisted him in apprehending those making their way to attack.

As all this happened, the first attack came in the form of an icicle aimed at Johann, who merely  stepped out of the way. Serilda glared at the group of dark mages in subtle annoyance before looking back to the man beside her. She eyed him curiously for a moment, her face expressionless as she attempted to process everything that was going on. He had come to a graveyard… to have fun? Now there was a morbid sense of entertainment. Serilda honestly was not sure what to think, but realized she didn’t exactly have time to ponder it. Plus, she would be stupid to pass up a chance to fight alongside a god of Ishgar. “We can work out particulars later,”, was her rebuttal to his offer to let her receiving all the rewards. She was not the type to just take everything for herself, particularly when she really already had most everything that she needed.

A slight smirk tugged on the side of her lips as she added, “I do think I would quite enjoy rounding up these degenerates with you, however.”

She turned same as him to face the group, who were currently bickering among themselves because of the missed shot. Serilda couldn’t hear anything they were saying, but it didn’t take much to decipher the tone of the distant voices. Soon enough, one of them spoke up. His voice rang loudly across the expanse between the two groups, announcing himself as Thor with some Asgard guild that Serilda had literally never heard of. Not usually one for displaying her emotions too publicly, she couldn’t help but softly groan in disdain at the man’s egotistical and unimpressive bravado.

Of course, her attention was quickly drawn back to Johann when a completely different voice seemed to come from his lips. A deep boom of laughter came from the man, who proceeded to taunt them mercilessly -- even calling them “mortals”. It was a disturbing change to say the least, though Serilda managed to keep her expression akin to bewilderment rather than anything more degrading. The dark wizards were not pleased at being mocked, of course. The leader, Thor, commanded for the others to attack the pair, stating he would press forward to look for the weapon they had all come to find.

Well, that had certainly caught Serilda’s attention… and not in a good way. This so called leader was going to just abandon his men to battle so he could go straight for the spoils? Unbelievable!

Johann told her they’d have to get to know each other better later, his visage already looking more than a little pleased at the prospect of battle. Serilda couldn’t say that she was necessarily as excited as he about this, but there was a part of her that did enjoy a good fight. At the very least she loved training, and what was training but a precursor to war? The other voice spoke from the man’s body once more, goading the Asgardians and asking who would be the first to show them the power of which they boasted. A great power was emanating from the man, who had taken on a new form. Serilda took a quick mental note of it, also silently thanking any actual gods that might be listening that Johann had chosen to fight on her side.

As that happened, there was also a shift in the air. The sound of strangled coughs filled the air from the entire group before them, mixed looks of panic, confusion, and anger in their faces as they suddenly found themselves gasping for air that would not come. “Certainly no one here,” Serilda stated matter-of-factly to Johann -- or whatever other entity was present with him. “If these nitwits had the true powers of a god, they wouldn’t be using it to dig up graves.” What rubbish.

The entire group was now at a great disadvantage thanks to Serilda’s spell that was keeping their lungs from filling up with much needed oxygen. They could only half focus on their enemies, now, the rest of their energy being spent struggling for breath. Focusing on her sword, the weapon’s blade seemed to shrink just the tiniest bit as she magically tempered it. One of the dark mages had steel weapons on his hands, marking him as a melee fighter rather than a spell based one. Pointing to him, Serilda said, “Angribe.”

Her wolf immediately sprinted forward into the fray, making a beeline toward the target she’d been assigned. The man put up his hands to fight but found himself surprised by how quickly the animal had covered the ground to reach him. Mix the wolf’s speed with the fact that he was still choking on his own tongue, and before he could even process what was happening, Xiuhcoatl had him pinned viciously to the ground on his back, where he was frantically trying to hold the creature at bay to keep her powerful jaws from snapping around his throat.

Meanwhile, Serilda’s body dropped into the ground completely like it hadn’t even been there, and she disappeared totally from plain sight. Most likely, Johann would still be able to sense her where she moved beneath the surface of the ground, passing harmlessly through dirt and graves alike only to pop back out behind the stumbling group. The first wizard was none the wiser as her scimitar snaked out and expertly sliced the tender tendons behind his knees. His scream was strangled by the fact that he still couldn’t even breathe as he fell forward onto his face.
