Site Lore Recordkeeping

Ello all. I'll keep this brief.

For years, or since the creation of FTRP, we have emphasized and stressed how this is a lore-free roleplaying forum and that all "lore" can be developed between individuals. While I see the point of this, to prevent the forcible conforming to a single storyline, I do think we miss out on worldbuilding and storytelling opportunities since we have excluded this as a site feature.

What I suggest is, as a community, developing a timeline and site lore of all things players have done ICly over the course of years to the present. Members could submit links to threads and events that occur over the site (events), within a guild, or perhaps a personal plot that expanded to something more monumental, and staff could subsequently assess these threads and update the timeline every other month, or otherwise routinely.

This can open an array of worldbuilding and storytelling opportunity for FTRP all while not forcing members to recognize or conform to the lore. While we will not force it into the plots of others, it will always be there if you so choose to recognize it.

I approve of this too! I've always felt the site could be so much better and more enjoyable by being able to fill in holes regarding the world we have here. Our stories can benefit a lot from having something like a timeline.

Just voicing my own thoughts that this would be awesome. A lot of work, but something that would be made easier if everyone was able to just pitch stuff that's happened for their own characters over the years, or stuff they remember that might be important to establish as canon.

Personally, I have always found that sites keep active players longer if the players feel like their stories have an impact on the site. This is an effective way to do that, imo.

I'm sorry to be 'that guy' but yeah... I'm playing devil's advocate here it seems. I do like the idea of a site lore and hell I'd be willing to help out with gathering the needed information and making a coherent time line so other people can make it look pretty and the likes. That being said what can be used would be limited within a sense, the reason I say this is the site wide events are easily documented as are the big things like the rising and falling of guilds, rising stars, saints, sinners and coming storms since all this impacts the realm in general.

Now is were I become 'that guy' because when it comes to individuals, their stories and plots it becomes a bit more sticky and could make things not only muddled if not more confusing. There are so many people with not only the same ideas but they've most likely approached them differently and wouldn't want them altered etc.

My suggestion sure do it, but keep to the big stuff and keep the individual and smaller stuff to the history board.
