    Spoiler:

I've been out there and seen the things she's made

It had been quite the job. Mythal had to admit -- that certainly had been the most exciting job he had been on to date. Well... second most exciting. As the cottage faded away in the distance, the pained and angered howl of the vampire screeched through the immediate area one last time before it faded away like a fleeting nightmare. Mythal looked back, the book clutched tightly in his hand, to catch one last glimpse of the structure before putting it in the back of his mind.

Now he could relax. He let out a sigh and groan, feeling the stab wounds from the hardened blood itch and burn slightly. They had been right; this entire job had been much more than it looked on the face of things. He reached back and touched the closest hole, feeling the slippery feeling of his blood on it. Luckily they weren't deep -- they had escaped with enough time and speed to avoid any major injuries. They were just going to sting for a bit. He opened up his knapsack and put the book inside, locking the buckle in place and yanking it tight. Then his gaze lazily drifted over to Markus walking beside him.

"So..." he started, unsure of himself. He wasn't used to being the one that asked the questions -- they always seemed to be directed at him. But this other Fairy Tail wizard had magic that was almost identical to his, though it was used in an entirely different fashion. Mythal kept a cap on his magical output by rooting it through his body, making classifying it very difficult. Markus, on the other hand, seemed to steer right into the thick of it, almost glowing with dark pride over where his magic came from. He just had to know. "Fallen God Slayer," he remarked, crossing his arms over his chest as he walked along.

"Didn't know there was another one like me."

    Black

The two mages had stopped temporarily, taking a small reprieve from the earlier running. Markus kept a warry eye on the forest, watching the wild trees, and searching the hidden brambles. In the distance he heard an animal cry out. Markus believed it was a wolf but could not be certain. Suddenly, Arinia once more in raven form landed upon his shoulders. As always, she had kept safe during the danger.

“Oh my, that sure was scary!” She said in a regal but amused tone. Upon hearing Mythal speak she piped up. “Oh yeah! It will do Markus some good to have some friends, that Chaos…” Markus bat her off his shoulder cutting off whatever else she was about to say.

Markus nodded, “Aye, I was… gifted the lacrima of a Fallen God, in order to… accent my strengths.” Markus said warily, he did not expect anyone to recognize the magic as generally slayers are only noticed when they eat one another’s element, or of course recognize the magic. Markus knew Fairy Tail had many slayers, gods and dragon slayers among them. He had not known they had taken one like him… well, not really like him Markus knew nothing of the man, but he had learned early on in his adventures that even slayers of same attributes were entirely different.

Markus cocked his brow at Mythals second comment. He understood, he felt the same when he had met the True Fallen God Slayer, someone with both a lacrima and the teachings of a god. “There are others, I know at least one more Fallen God, however like you, and I his use of the gifts are drastically different than our own.” Markus gave slight chuckle, “So do not worry, there is no one else... like you. Though I will admit, I am pleasantly surprised to learn that Fairy Tail have accepted another member with similar powers.” Markus had to admit, he was curious about how the man had gotten his gifts, but Markus was not one to pry. He was certain, that if they did enough jobs together Markus would have all his questions answered.

Suddenly, a thought came to his mind. “Mythal, are you already part of a team?” Markus asked it as if it was a sidelong comment, a curiosity. Markus had not joined a team, even though everyone he once knew in Fairy Tail had. “I feel our magic supports one another well…. If you are interested?”

Markus was making his way back to the compound they had been invited to previously. They had to return the book and see what was next on their list. Assuming the Hunters still needed the mages expertise.

Mythal turned his attention the small fairy disguised raven on as she spoke, as chipper as ever. Yet as she began to reveal something possibly interesting, the other God Slayer knocked her away and caused her to flap off. Mythal watched after her before turning his gaze back to Markus. Chaos... what was that? He wondered about it but not too long; Markus seemed ready to open up and explain a bit about the source of his power. So he hadn't gained his power by slaying or learning under a God but rather he'd had a lacrima possessing the magic essence within his body. Mythal had heard about such things but hadn't ever really considered it as something viable. Yet it had apparently accented Markus' strengths further than they were before.

Yet as he was wrapping his head around the fact that there were two of his magical type, Markus continued and revealed that there was, in fact, others. He'd even met another one who utilized their powers even different from the two of them. Had the lacrimas been filled by Faera's powers? And if so, did that mean there was a bit of her taint within them? He'd never felt any sway to follow her paths and he had her magic straight from the source. Had someone else managed to take a bit of her power and create lacrimas out of it? He had so many more questions now than he had expected to have. "Yeah it's uh... nice, to have someone relatable," he said, offering a rare smile. Markus using shadow magic had been well enough but knowing that he utilized a power nearly identical to his was... comforting.

His short reverie was broken as Markus turned the questioning on him, though it had nothing to do with his magical source. In fact, it wasn't even on the same topic -- he was curious if Mythal had joined a team? He blinked, a bit confused as he met the man's gaze. "Uh... I mean... I'm Nessa's mentee. Does that count as a team?" Once he got his confirmation that the mentor/mentee system was not a formation of a team, he shrugged. "Never thought it was a thing." And then the question; was he interested? Markus didn't come outright and ask him to form a team with him; such a thing would have been rather corny. But he had asked him if there was even a slight chance of being interested in such a thing. Normally, and perhaps to anybody else, he would have said no without restraint.

"Yeah," he said, nodding. "That might work." He wanted to know more about Markus' power, to see the full range of his abilities, if only to help him better understand his own. He had reworked the God Slaying magic into his martial arts but he hadn't ever really explored it. There had been a part of him that was fearful that doing so would draw attention to him or, worse yet, make him more sympathetic to Faera's dastardly cause.

A little bit after that, they found themselves before the compound once again. The guards met them at the door and Mythal reached into the pouch, pulling out the book and waving it as their new invitation. It was time to finish this job...

    Or so they thought.

Markus nodded as the other man spoke and raised an eyebrow slightly. Nessa had mentees now? When the chaos mage had last seen her, well… Markus decided to push the thought from his mind. That night had passed long ago, and though the chaos mage had reflected on it more than once, he knew with time all things died.

Grinning towards Mythal he spoke. “Well then, its settled… However, lets keep the information from Nessa, at least for a bit. She, well she does not know I have returned.” Markus said simply, not giving any more information than necessary. He fully planned to speak with her soon… when he ran out of jobs to do. He knew their meeting would be awkward, and more than a little difficult.

Finally pulled back into the compound Markus listened as the leader spoke again. She informed the mages, as she took the book and produced their money, that although they had completed the job. She still had more work for them, if they were up to it. Markus, not one to turn down money, and still looking for excuses to avoid the guild did not argue.

After getting a confirmation from both mages, she would continue, and tell them that she would like their help to protect her. The book it seems held a magical ritual, one which would allow her to create and bless a pile of silver swords giving them the power to kill these new vampires. She knew however that the vampries would never allow such a thing and expected they would send creatures to stop the mages.

With no objections she informed them that they were ready to start the ritual immediately and took the mages as well as four skilled hunters into a place known as the Silent Cemetery. A place that earned its name. As they walked, Markus knew he would be able to hear even a pin drop. Markus did not recognize any of the names on the graves they passed and noticed that many of them held no names at all.

When they finally stopped, the group found themselves within a large clearing at the center of which was a runic circle. Markus stood of to the side as the hunters began their work. He was not sure what to expect, but he kept his eyes on the woods either way. That was when he heard it, a long and piercing howl, followed by movement in the brush. Markus, his eyes glowing with chaotic energy glanced back and forth prepared for any attack.

Markus watched as a group of Lycans stepped from the dark woods. Snarling, and yipping they started to run across the open plains. From this distance, with his enhanced sight Markus could easily make out their yellowed teeth and flying spit.

Taking no risks Markus reached into his very being, released his inner blockers, and close his eyes. Suddenly darkness and chaotic energy burst from the mage, streaming off his body almost like flames, Markus could feel as the Fallen God lacrima boosted his inner strength. Then… Markus opened his eyes, and chaotic magic flooded his vision. His eyes would be glowing now, a dark purple as magic shined from his very being.

With a grin Markus clenched his fist and pointed a single finger towards the approaching beasts. They were getting closer and closer. Still Markus waited, until they were almost upon him, when he knew they would have no chance to escape. Just as one of them jumped towards him did Markus release the magic.

A wave of chaotic energy surged from the mage striking forth at each of the attacking lycans, the darkness had a visceral form and took sadistic pleasure in annihilating the lycans in front of Markus. All three beasts lay unmoving under the onslaught. Markus glanced at the creatures, his mind clear of worry, of doubt, of care. The chaos mage mind flooded with chaotic magic only reacted, acted, and functioned on a whim.

Suddenly, a sound broke through to the mages left, glancing that direction he noticed a large shape coming from the brush actually moving and shifting the various trees and bushes. The mage watched with little attention as a large beast slithered from the brush into the clearing.

Near 30 meters and covered in a thick matted fur the creature was unlike any Markus had seen. Certainly, some sort of snake, with no arms or legs it slithered upon the ground. However, unlike a reptile it had thick fur, and two large tusk protruding from its open maw. Markus could see from here that thick globules of some strange glowing red liquid dripped from the creature’s mouth.

Glancing about Markus realized the ritual had started in full, and strange light was coming from the circle. The four hunters seemed to be taking pot shots at the serpentine beast, but there attacks seemed to do little damage. On a whim, Markus waved his hand in the direction of the creature and set a shard of chaotic magic spiraling in its direction.

The attack, while boosted through his magic was however not enough to kill the beast which shook violently in great pain looking for something to kill and punish for the damage. Markus shrugged, and turned towards closer enemies, the whimful nature of his current mindset taking more and more control.

I've been out there and seen the things she's made

Mythal frowned a bit as Markus mentioned that keeping the news of his return a secret was important, especially concerning Nessa. She was his mentor and by virtue alone he should have disagreed. But he felt there was something else there; something that was more personal between Markus and Nessa that he had no right to be between. "Alright, no worries,” he said simply, shrugging and letting the topic go. Whatever… thing involved the two veteran members of Fairy Tail was none of his business. And as long as it didn’t affect his working and making jewel, he wouldn’t intervene. They would work it out in their own time.

Returning to the compound should have been the final step in their job and, in a way, it was. But as they entered and handed the book off to the leader of the rag tag group, she took a slight turn. She would pay them for their work so far but she also wanted their help with the next step of their plans. She would continue to pay them and even give them a token to sweeten the pot. The God Slayer was all for more jewel so he agreed, unsurprised by Markus agreeing right with him. They seemed to be operating a similar wavelength at this point.

Upon agreement, she went into further detail of their next step. The reason she needed the book in the first place was that a spell was inside of it; one that was imperative to their success. With it, they could bless a gathering of silver swords and give them the strength to kill the vampires that haunted this land. But apparently upon beginning the ritual, great amounts of magic would be released and basically give away their position. The vampire pack wouldn’t allow such a spell to reach its precipice and would most certainly send creatures of the night after them. She had a group of dedicated hunters willing to assist her but simply put, they wouldn’t stand a chance against the masses of horrors. They needed true wizards to assist them.

So it was a defense job. And by the way she made it sound, it would not be one where one or two creatures came stumbling out of the night towards them. This was going to be a melee that was worthy of being called a battle. But Mythal wasn’t going to back down now and nodded, agreeing to the insane plan. She led them and her personal group out of the manor and into the night, heading towards a large plot of graves called the Silent Cemetery. It wasn’t that far of a walk, their ears filled with the nocturnal noises that came after sunset. But as they stepped into the graveyard itself, everything fell as silent as the dead that lay interned. Even their footfalls on the ground didn’t seem to make any noise whatsoever. Like Markus, Mythal looked at the graves as they passed, most of the stones seemingly sanded clean from time and… well, perhaps something more supernatural.

As they came up upon a hill, they were greeted by the sight of a clearing among the graves. A massive runic circle lay in its epicenter, ready and waiting for the leader to begin her channeling. Each one of them took point, their eyes searching through the darkness in an attempt to discover any forces beforehand. It didn’t take long; a blood curdling howl tore through the night, breaking the eerie silence like a hammer through a glass window. As the God Slayer turned to see the source, he could just barely make out the form of running beasts along the plains. Lycans, of all things. Even before the ritual begun they would be fighting.

As Markus opened up his magic in a brilliant spectacle, Mythal pushed off the ground and charged. He separated himself from his partner, running diagonally towards the pack. Two of them tore off the other three, wanting to team up on Mythal themselves. As he ran, the God Slayer brought forth his magic and coalesced upon his right arm, creating a hardened, shadow gauntlet. He kept his pace, even as the first Lycan came upon him and opened its jaws to take a bite out of him.

It would find itself rudely interrupted, as Mythal slammed his armored fist into its jaw, knocking it to the side and away from him. He didn’t let up; his fist snapping back in a back fist strike to the other side of its jaws, causing it to stumble backwards further. By then the other Lycan had leapt around its friend, its bared teeth coming towards Mythal. He dove to the side, just barely avoiding the chomp that ripped through the space he had occupied. He was up on his feet again, leaping forward and thrusting his right fist into its neck, using his momentum to knock it down as well. He rolled over it and spun around to slam a hammer fist onto its skull, causing it to yelp in pain. With both the Lycans on their last legs, each one having taken two heavy strikes, Mythal converged the magic on his hand into his palm, bringing his fingers in to capture it. "Fallen God’s Chaos Blast!” He chanted, unleashing the beam of dark energy into and through both of the beasts, dissolving them from the waists up.

He spun to see how Markus was doing, only to find a large python engaging the Chaos Wizard. Just as Markus finished up his last attack on the creature and turned away, Mythal was already disappearing into the shadows that lay at his feet. He zipped unseen through the ground and reappeared underneath the snake, just as it was hissing angrily at its former foe. A fist smashed into it from below, the strength and momentum breaching the flesh of its lower jaw and into its brain. It snapped back violently and collapsed with a loud thud, shaking the entire area around them. Mythal landed on the ground, taking a single step forward to balance himself. It had been awhile since he had put out so much magic in such a short amount of time. He needed to get better about stretching out his stamina for such battles.

    Markus Eldridge

Markus signed glancing from his right to his left. He could hear them coming, growling, yipping, even if he could not see them through the brush. It was strange for the chaos mage to remember how the lacrima effected his body strange and still somewhat… exhilarating to know just how powerful his senses had become. With a growl the mage turned towards the oncoming horde.

He could make out a large group of shifters this time, all in their werewolf form. Narrowing his eyes Markus prepared his resolve. He knew this would be a tough battle, taking a deep breath and forcing chaotic energy to his feet the mage launched forward. Far faster than one would expect for a mage such as himself, especially one who does not focus in melee combat. However, propelled as he was with magical power Markus rocketed through the air and found himself standing next to a group of three werewolves. Markus hand collided with the center wolf, piercing its chest as dark magic. With a pulse of power the creature collapsed.

With a grin, Markus watched as one of the werewolves swiped towards him, only to stop mid swing, frozen in fear as the creature met his eyes. Markus, eyes alight with pure chaotic magic, had a look of true apathy plastered upon his face. His gaze matching that of a ‘god’ deciding what to do with an ant. The werewolf, getting over the shock attacked again, however the magic had already taken effect, and his movements were far too slow.

Sidestepping the creature Markus hand shot out once more, delivering a strike of pure chaotic energy to the creatures core. Turning to the third werewolf the chaos mage surged forward this time delivering two quick blows, each of which caused a surge of chaotic energy and explosive magic to ring forth into the creatures very being. With a resounding crack, the third beast fell to the ground at Markus’ feet.

The chaos mage was fully immersed in his magic now, a trade off that came with the chaotic power. If one were to get into his way, Markus knew not how he would handle the situation. Lost in thought, Markus almost missed it as two more of the creatures appeared on either side of him.

With a sly grin the mage stamped his foot upon the ground, and allowed the chaotic magic he controlled to  force itself from his body. Blood dripped from his mouth, but went unnoticed as the magic took its tole upon the mages body. Markus had grown use to his strongest spells causing damage, and he had come to ignore such occurrences, as long as they were not life threatening.

As the energy left his body, it become a physical force of chaos cascading into the approaching creatures in two waves. The first, a near invisible wake turning the creatures natural defenses against them was followed by a stream of dark magic powerful enough to break the are below the chaos mage. As the magic collided with the creatures it broke bones, and shattered internals.

Markus despite all of this continued walking. His magic power was waning, getting closer to total depletions, if he were to guess the mage would assume he was just over half on his reserves. This had to end soon. The chaos mage, his eyes still alight with dark magic stopped walking when he reached the casting circle. He was bared from getting to close, the idiotic hunters unsure how to deal with his current visage. Yet, they let him talk.

“How about we hurry this up, before anything else comes this way?” The mage could hear more rustling within the dark forest, and knew there must have been more of the were creatures. However, he kne larger and more powerful beast called this land home and he was not overly excited to run into another such creature.

The female leader, while spouting some nonsense about complex rituals, and integrated forms sped up her work, never once looking at the darkness Mage. His message delivered, Markus turned his attention towards his ally another powerful dark magic user.

Spotting him in the distance, Markus watched as he dealt with his own horde. With a flash of an ethereal dark light, and the sound of ripping in the air Markus found himself standing next to the other mage, just as he dealt with the last of his creatures.

“Well, at least they aren’t ghost.” Markus said with a smirk, not looking at the other mage. After all, Markus’ eyes would still be alight with dark visual magic, and any friend or foe who glanced in their depths would have to deal with the spell, and harming his teammate would require way to much paperwork for the chaos mage to risk such a thing.

“How are you holding out?” Markus asked, more on a whim than anything else. He knew the other mage was powerful, and had been shown without a doubt that he could hold is own. But, while waiting for whatever was to come, Markus might as well speak with his teammate, even though there was no real guarantee or acceptance from either of the two mages that such a thing was to happen.

Post by Mythal Ragnos 10th December 2018, 3:56 pm

I've been out there and seen the things she's made

Just as Mythal was glancing over his shoulder to look at the horrible amalgamation just as more yips and howls screeched across the night sky. He sighed and turned his gaze towards the sound as yet another pack of the were creatures came running out of treeline, each one spreading out. Half the pack turned and headed towards Markus while the other turned towards him, the barking and growling getting closer with every second that passed by. The God Slayer started walking towards them, his right arm cloaked again in the shadows as he planned his attack. He waded into the masses, all five of the creatures charging in at the same time. Far more calculated than the last ones… and yet still not prepared for the God Slayer to disappear into the ground. All five of them nearly crashed into one another – three of them did swat at each other and snarl and snap at the offense.

But Mythal reappeared behind one of the creatures, his hand snapping out to smash into tis neck. The creature was knocked to the side but whirled around aggressively once it caught its footing, claws out and ready. Mythal countered by punching at the approaching arm, his fist smashing into its palm and keeping the talons from reaching his skin. He followed through, sending the creature stumbling away as his body motion continued counter clockwise and his leg snapped out to deliver a flying side kick to its face. He had just enough time to pull his upper torso back as he landed to avoid another slash at him, immediately leaning forward once more and planting his fist into the offending were creature’s jaw.

Mythal had to slide his right foot back to reinforce his stance as two of the creatures rushed him at the same time, swiping from either side. His arms came up, his forearms catching that slashes and keeping them from meeting his torso and vital organs. They did manage to draw a little blood from the flesh of his arms but that was nothing compared to what could happen. But the third were-creature thrust his fist into his chest and launched him backwards, his feet skidding across the dirt-laden ground and carving trenches in it.

"Bastard,” Mythal spat out, his left arm already coming up in front of him. "Fallen God’s Chaos Blast!” he shouted, unleashing yet another charged beam of magical energy, enveloping the creature that had struck him. As the blast settled, the were-monster was several yards back from where it had been, its entire front scorched as it lay, back-first, on the ground.

The other two monsters glanced back at their third, surprised by how damaged it was by the attack. They had dropped their guard – a foolish mistake that would cost them dearly. Mythal was on them in the blink of an eye and his arms were moving as he set his feet. His arms pumped out five times in a row, thrusting five palm strikes to the creature on the left intended for its major pressure points. It howled and froze, its body seizing up from the sudden attack. As the other creature spun around, Mythal slammed his fist into its side, right over its kidney. As it gasped, his knee shut up and into its stomach, completely emptying its lungs of air and its body of fighting spirit. Now completely stunned, Mythal brought an uppercut straight into its jaw, slamming its head backwards and his vision skyward. The stars above were the last thing it saw before the God Slayer delivered double thrust punches to its chest, sending it rolling backwards and depositing it on the carcass of its comrade.

Mythal only took a quick moment to wrap his magical gauntlet around his left arm and slam it into the remaining monster’s face, knocking it on its back and ridding it of its consciousness. He inhaled deeply, taking a moment to let his magical pool regain what little it could between the battles. Markus appeared beside him, warping in through his own form of magic. Mythal’s answer to the observation was to snort and spit to the side, clearing his mouth of the coppery taste of his own blood. The punch had caused him to bite down on his inner lip, a minor pain considered the throbbing and ache in his chest from the strike. But annoying nonetheless.

"Well, we have a lot of were creatures and a snake whose mother cleared mated with a mammoth so… not bad, considerin’,” Mythal said with a shrug, brushing off the dirt that had managed to get on his shirt. He nodded towards the group of hunters, still performing that ritual. "They say how much longer? We ain’t exactly prepared to take on a whole army.”

    Markus Eldridge

Markus found himself nodding with the other mage. This ritual was becoming taxing, and the chaos mage found himself getting annoyed at the hunters and their laxity. Markus knew he could handle little more, and as such took a deep breath, closing his eyes. Suddenly, Markus felt a sharp pain in his core. Should someone be watching, they would see blood pool down his lip. The chaos mage however smiles as he felt a surge of mana flood his system. Opening his eyes Markus would look more invigorated and rested. His magic, chaotic as it was always had tradeoffs. Markus warped that flow to his advantage, allowing the magic to damage his body while restoring some of his reserves.

Glancing at the hunters Markus once more heard another group of creatures coming towards the mages. With a sign the chaos mage spoke up. “If this goes on much longer, I will let them kill you.” There was no emotion to Markus’ voice. No venom, or cadence, to any who did not know the mage it would be very difficult to tell if he was joking or not. He was not.

Waling forward Markus grinned and felt a surge as once more there was a ripping sound in the air. Markus would be for a split second pulled into the void and use it as a channel to once more appear on the opposite side of the clearing. Just as another group of lycans surged from the darkness. Sidestepping an attack from the first wolf Markus sent his hand forward piercing the creatures heart with a bolt of chaotic magic. This however is when Markus realized that he was getting too lax. Suddenly, he felt a shock of pain as a second were creature raked its claws along Markus’ side.

Unfortunately for the creature, Primodials were beings preexisting creation, and they hated being touched by Mortals. Markus, as a progeny of such a being had gained some of their power. Chaotic magic flashed around the mage, piercing into the creature and retaliating for the strike to Markus. Markus looked upon the unmoving creature apathetically. He was getting very tired of theses games. With a sign, he turned towards the final lycan in his vicinity.

Markus held up his hand as the creature surged towards him. The chaos mage found himself questioning why these creatures bothered. What did the vampires have over them? How could they just run into death so willingly? It was not as if they currently posed a threat to the mages. Did they plan to wear them down, where they a distraction, did they just not care for their own lives? All these questions crossed the mages eyes as he released the magic, causing a surge of chaotic energy to once more end the life of another lycan.

Markus looked at the carnage around him, and his fellow mage. As always the chaos mage did not hold back, after all to risk such was death, but not for the first time the mage found himself wondering if there was another way. Markus thought back to when he had killed a group of fairy poachers just as ruthlessly… He knew, no one would question the death of the monsters. After all, they looked like beast. Yet, Markus knew society would have thought his actions with the poachers reprehensible, despite the fact that they were far worse monsters. Markus knew she felt that way.

Turning his mind from the thought Markus suddenly heard a large amount of movement from the trees. Rocking, crashing, thump. Thump. Thump. The chaos mage could physically feel the ground vibrate as something headed towards them, something large, and Markus assumed not friendly. With a sigh, the mage turned towards the sound. Thump, thump, thump.

With a final crash, and the parting of trees Markus got a look at what they were not dealing with. Standing 30 feet in height, or almost 10 meters the Goliath towered over the mages and hunters alike. Its eyes were pale, bloodshot, and without emotion. Markus could see from his position that the creature was sluggish and moved… strangely.

With a cry of anger, the creature surged forward towards the hunters. Markus took off at a run, currently unable to use his void step. Luckily for the chaos mage, his speed was boosted, and he ran far faster than one would expect. Stopping just short of the creature Markus called a wave of chaotic energy and struck towards the Goliath.

With a resounding crack the beast cried out as the magic struck it, however unexpectedly it did not stop its reckless run towards the hunters. The creature had one goal in mind.

Continuing the Hunt Empty Re: Continuing the Hunt

Post by Mythal Ragnos 10th December 2018, 5:28 pm

I've been out there and seen the things she's made

Mythal sensed a small pulse of magical pressure beside him and as he glanced over at Markus, he saw the blood that broke the seal of his lips and dripped down. But rather than a pained or agitated look to follow up, all the other Slayer did was… smile. Mythal narrowed his eyes, wondering just what he had done to himself to create such an odd reaction. But he didn’t have much time to wonder at that or his cold words thrown at the hunters nearby before he heard the howl of yet another pack of were-creatures. "At this rate, they’ll all be extinct,” Mythal grumbled as his shadow magic wrapped around his left arm, his stance widening as the creatures broke the lines of the forest and charged once more.

At this point, the God Slayer was downright annoyed. As the first beast came in, Mythal smashed his fist right into its face, knocking it away with one simple strike. He then turned and launched himself into the other creature, his armored fist leading the charge as he rammed it into the monster’s stomach. The were-creature slammed into the ground, with Mythal standing on its chest. It snapped and snarled but before it could reach up and rake its claws against him, the God Slayer jumped and landed on both its arms, pinning it to the ground. Then he rained punched down upon its face and chest, both magic-infused fist and bare wreaking havoc upon it. He only stopped when it had gone limp, its breath escaping loudly through its clearly broken snout.

He turned just in time to get tackled by the other were-monster, the beast spearing him off its comrade and tumbling onto the ground. The two rolled over one another before Mythal managed to pop up and toss the creature skyward, surprising it. It flailed at the air uselessly, praying it found refuge on something. But just as it came down, Mythal thrust his fist up and into its chest, using gravity as an added bonus to his strength. The creature gasped loudly as all its air was rudely pushed out of its lungs. Limp and worn, it could do nothing as Mythal grabbed its tail and threw it back into the woods like a champion thrower going for the gold.

He glanced over at Markus, who had utterly decimated the were-creatures that had come to him. While Mythal had left his enemies alive, it seemed the other God Slayer took his title to heart and shuffled his enemies off to the immortal plane. Frankly, he couldn’t blame him – these were vicious creatures that clearly wouldn’t have left either of them alive given the opportunity. But to Mythal, killing them was too quick and easy a punishment. They’d have to limp back to their vampiric master and beg his forgiveness for their failure. Let that cold, undead bastard sully his hands with their blood – he couldn’t be bothered.

Yet even as he thought that, the ground shook violently. The trees shook to and fro and the earth below their feet rumbled and quaked every second or so. The unmistakable sound of feet slamming into the soil reached their ears and Mythal let out a sigh that sounded more like a growl. The treeline was unceremoniously breached by a titanic creature, a Goliath of all things. As tall as a building, it looked down at the hunters performing the ceremony and roared, the sight an offense to its dull eyes. It then began its charge.

Both Markus and Mythal broke into action nearly at the same time. As Markus unleashed his chaotic darkness upon the creature in an attempt to give it pause, Mythal charged right into the creature’s personal space. His right arm pulled back, the skin upon it turning a sickly ashen color with black rivers streaking through it. As one of the Goliath’s legs came down, the God Slayer slammed his fist into the shin, the shockwave from the attack causing the immediate area to quake.

The creature roared and was forced to pause as the strength of the punch had seized its entire leg up. It bent down, trying to grab at Mythal with its gigantic hands. But the God Slayer was far too quick, his speed bolstered by the night sky above. He dipped under its legs and leapt into the air behind it. Arm cloaked in magic once more, his slammed five strikes to the same area on its lower back, causing its form to creak and shake. With its body still bent, Mythal managed to grab a foothold and start running up its spine. Feeling the feet upon its form, the creature tried to right itself and knock off the human pest.

But Mythal left up just in time, bringing himself just over its head. As he came down, his fist slammed into its brow, the impact bringing forth another roar and causing the creature’s world to spin. Several more punches slammed into the same spot, the sound of the bone cracking beneath its flesh snapping through the night air. Mythal pushed off its head and leapt forward, as if he was aiming to dive into a pool below. As his body came in line with the Goliath’s face, Mythal snapped once more and yelled out the incantation for his ranged spell. The blast of dark energy slammed into the giant’s face, knocking him off his feet and laying him flat upon a bed of trees and forest behind him.

Mythal landed as best he could, tucking into a roll as he hit the soil and sliding along the muddy field. "Finish it,” he said, nodding to Markus.

    Markus Eldridge

Markus watched with a raised brow as Mythal executed his attacks, the chaos mage was starting to like the Fallen God slayer. Maybe this team is a good idea. With a grim face Markus stepped forward, nodding at the other mage. He needed no further push, no other acknowledgements.

Markus raised his hands as four orbs of pure black void summoned in front of him. Spinning slowly in a circle counter clockwise with his outward palm the center point. With a flick of his wrist the mage released the magic, hurling the tracers around the creature. Almost with a sentience of their own the four orbs launched outwards arcing in separate directions before curving inwards and hitting the creature from all sides.

The problem with chaotic magic however, is that it is hard to control, and even harder not to over do an attack. For this reason alone Markus tends to kill, for holding back risks blow back from his magic. This time, it was no exception. As the orbs collided there was a cacophonous crash, and a sound of air ripping through a wind tunnel. The goliath was no more, pulled into chaos itself.

Closing his hand Markus looked at his palm before blinking, the magic that once held sway dying entirely from his eyes. That was when he heard it.

“Well done, well done! Had that… creature interrupted us all would have been lost, as we were in the most crusial part of the ritual!” With almost comitic timing the leader informed the mages that they had just finished the ritual and showed the mages almost pure white silver swords. Markus, being a creature of the dark had to fight taking a step back. These were certainly holy weapons.

The leader then went into a rant, explaining the intricacies of the weapons themselves, as well as the power they hold. She dulled out one each to her men before looking once more at the mages. With a flourish she produced a bag of gold and handed it over. Before setting her men off.

With one final look she turned to the mages, and pointed at the remaining creatures that had yet to run off. “Oh, by the way. Should you return to the compound with their remains, our smiths will create you a weapon with said remains. I promise it will be one of legendary quality, with stories to last through the ages.”

With that, the leader turned away, before suddenly stopping in her tracks. “Oh, and of course if you are willing to find the vile creatures nest, I promise to reward you well.”

With that the female leader of the hunters took off into the woods, returning to their compound leaving the two mages alone.

Turning towards the other mage Markus spoke up, “Definitely more to it than meets the eye.” The chaos mage said with a passive tone referring to when they started this strange adventure.
