The spirit clone of Susano could only sigh in regards to his most unfortunate life.
"First I am reduced to fighting candyland munchkins, and now babysitting. I need to revise my contract." He would have to save his complaints for later though. Ignoring Samira was nothing new, but as usual he would have to face what came after as a result of it. Either the look of disapproval, complete silent treatment, or worse... forcing him to spend the day with one of the more annoying spirits that should have been sent into the spirit recycle bin upon creation. That last thought was absolutely cringing, and was what motivated him to actually get moving towards the calmest child that was smack in the middle of disaster he had ever seen. Didn't they usually stand there and cry? Or run? Or something? The crazy Christmas parade was one thing, but now things were on fire near there! Which... was strange. Who the hell was using fire? No matter, on the way he smacked another elf on the head with the blunt side of his blade and threw the unconscious body towards Cernunnos, who caught it and looked at the swordsman with an annoyed look.
"Take care of that. Pretend I asked nicely." He quickened his pace soon after, but as he drew closer and got a better look at what was going on, Susano slowed down. Some dancer looking spirit that looked a bit similar to Pele was up in one of the living trees, presumably the one responsible for the oversized flaming and flailing living holiday ornaments. His gut told him that was a summon rather than a mage. The only issue was he didn't see or feel any kind of magical presence that belonged to another summoner other than his own, and that chick was not part of the Samira club. The other one that gave him the same vibe as the spirit Hades also spoke, saying to leave the child be. The child that he now noticed was glowing like some human shaped light bulb. Susano opened his mouth to say something, then he immediately closed it a second later. He could put two and two together. Sort of. Those two must have been the summons and the kid... the summoner? With absolutely no magical signature? He scratched the back of his head, contemplating. Samira was a summoner as a kid too, but not that young, and it took her ages to even form the ability to hide her signature. That kid was not normal by any means.
"Nope. Too much weirdness in one day for me." Susano retreated from that position to head back towards Samira. Child rescue mission had been completed! Despite what he said though, his real reason for ditching was because he could respect the words of the death summon. It was their summoner, not his own, and he himself would probably take offense if some random spirit came wandering in to save the day when it came to his own summoner.
On his way back he noticed a portal opening up above the square, not from one of the invaders, but from Samira.
"Aw, hell." The Gate of the Avatar. That damn thing was going to stay up for a while, and because of that every single spirit Samira owned would be able to come through in short bursts repeatedly. As if the place needed to be even more crowded. One by one, different spirits appeared and attacked nearby enemies around the portal before disappearing. Mainly polar bears by this point in time, but there was one other tree going through town as if it owned the place that he could see. How long before the real big guy got in the way was anyone's guess. The rest of the minor crap needed to be dealt with quickly, which should have been easy, but Samira was holding back. Using the avatar gate instead of the upgraded version was proof of that.
"So this is what a Christmas party is like! Wrong choice of music though." Yes, the screams and yells of things on fire and fleeing citizens was not really in the spirit of the holidays.
Susano skidded to a stop upon hearing that voice, and turned his head to see another one of Samira's spirits. Apollo, although the music variation instead of the sun.
"What the hell are you doing here?! The gate is for combat spirits only!"Apollo whistled, keeping a cool and calm face despite the swordsman looking as if he were about to throw him through one of the winter portals.
"Relax. I only came to see the party. A good thing I did. The background music needs a major adjustment.""Don't you da-""Too late!" Apollo snapped his fingers and his version of a Chrstimas playlist began to magically play in the background all throughout the city.
"There we go! Beautiful! Thank me later by getting me one of those presents from the tree! Have fun, bye! " In a poof of swirling orange particles the music spirit that probably just made his death wish was gone. What was the first song choice? an annoying one that made everyone on Team Samira cringe upon hearing its first line. But with plenty of things on fire and going crazy it was appropriate in Apollo's opinion.
By the time it got to the next song on the playlist even Samira had to comment.
"This music... is terrible and distracting." During most of this she had been dealing with three polar bears, dodging their attempts to maul and swipe. They too were kind of cute, but she was not about to poke them like she did the elves. She was having to use and refresh her barriers as it was, especially when the music started and removed her focus, and then the three polar bears turned into six. Was she in trouble? Not really. Like her spirit earlier assumed, she was indeed holding back a great deal, mainly because anything she used was likely to either kill the bears or do serious damage to the city. She decided to finally risk using something though, and a blast of energy released from her and hit the bears that were in mid-attack around her. Their bodies shifted, becoming transparent and still, having been partially banished temporarily into the celestial realm. They were alive at least and with that Samira could feel relief. That spell was weak enough that it didn't destroy them.
"Yo!" The first spirit said as he hit each bear and knocked it away from his summoner.
"I'm back.""Oh, thank good-" Samira stopped as she looked down, having been expecting the blonde child to be there and safe but instead saw nothing.
"Where is..." Her confused expression turned to one of anger when she looked over and still saw the kid was all the way over there and not
right there. Her glare turned back onto the spirit.
"You left him?!"Susano shrugged.
"Well yeah. That one over there told me to." He pointed over towards the summon that had been with the strange boy from the start.
"The kid also glows. Pretty sure normal kids don't do that.""I cannot believe you are using being told to as an excuse."At that point the partial banishment was wearing off from the polar bears and they were able to move again. Slowly at first. One came towards the spirit, but he just nonchalantly hit the bear in the face with the blunt end of his sword as it approached. Really he barely even noticed it was there and did it on instinct. The conversation was taking a bit of a priority on focus.
"Have you ever been alone in a room with Hades? I was getting the same vibes, only worse. I was not about to mess with that. I don't get paid enough.""You do not get paid at all!" Samira did the same as Susano. A bear approached from behind and was smacked by the back of her hand, although that time being more magically enhanced since it was a melee type of spell instead of a normal slap. That sent the bear flying to land on a group of Rune Knights. They were surprised by the flying bear, but nonetheless recovered enough to deal blows of their own to render it unconscious.
"Exactly! This job sucks. Can't even give me a crossword puzzle book." Another hit on another approaching bear.
"Maybe I would get you something if you actually did what I told you to do instead of arguing with me." A spear made of ice formed within Samira's hand as she spoke. A simple weapon with a simple design to freeze enemies. The type of enemies they were dealing with may have been from a wintry wonderland, but they should still be capable of being frozen. Her subconscious was choosing that re-quip weapon for that purpose, but Samira's frontal mind didn't quite pick up on it yet. Instead the weapon was used in much the same way as Susano was using his sword. A couple of strikes were made against an approaching bear as Samira moved to the side to dodge its move. Her attention was still mainly on the spirit, however.
"Maybe if you were smarter I wouldn't have to argue."The back and forth statements and strikes against the unfortunate polar bears that got in the way of the argument continued for a few moments longer. It really wasn't anything new for Samira and that particular spirit to argue, but still the scenario made the satyr spirit shake his head, and the winged serpent one get pissed off. Not that the winged serpent desired to do anything about it just yet. She mainly wanted everything over and done with so she could go home and eat that damn music spirit for that horrible background music. For now, she stuck with guarding the defensive dome Athena had created to keep some random civilians protected.
The arguing between the two stopped though when an elf on fire came running between them and dove into a patch of snow. Both of them looked at it and blinked. Then their stares went back to each other, although Samira's more of a glare.
"Oi, don't look at me. I am not a fire spirit."Samira could only sigh at that and let her annoyance and anger fade away. For the most part.
"Point taken. Just help me clear out the rest of these bears so we can move on, please.""Whoa! Samira said 'please' to me when making a request. This must be my Christmas gift.""Spare me the sarcasm."When the two went back to focusing on the bears they came to realize the ones near them were already out for the count. Their response was a simple "oh..." There was still plenty to do though, especially given one thing they had not realized yet. There was still another person making their way into the city. One that had already killed some of the holiday invaders instead of subduing them. Would she make her presence known or would she continue to remain afar? Find out in the next two posts!
