The third Master? Empty The third Master?

Post by Luceam 19th December 2018, 9:09 pm

Late into the evening, Luna sat against the wall in front of the castle, fearing the worst. Contact with the Guild Masters was silent for ages. No one was aware of recent presence of either of them. When Theo Silverblood had gone missing, it was the first sign of trouble but the guild still had Rin Mayou, or so they thought. Luna had hardly been able to catch wind of the girl for a week, but she was able to exchange a few notes, but clearly something was lost in the mail as she had promoted Luna to Ace, Luna bit her lip and accepted that. However one day Luna spent a whole day in the Guild Master Chambers, yet the only ones who came by were those who also were looking for the couple. So, Luna dared to use her new status as Ace to check the logs of who is on what job, but couldn't find either of them.

She was growing concerned, she tried her best to maintain order around the guild hall without seeming like she is taking over but she could only do so much. When the pile of unanswered magic council letters grew to large, she knew someone would come to check. She received a call on her iLac three days ago, from a representative of the Magic Council who asked about the guild masters, Luna answered honestly that the guild had no idea. If the Magic Council was aware, that gave Luna great concern for the status of the guild. She was afraid, that they would come in and shut it down.

The lady on the other end grumbled for an hour while she confirmed various details. Luna was given four instructions, do not leave town, keep quiet on this subject, inform the magic council if the guild masters returned, then detain them upon arrival under the charges of: non-compliance with the magic council, abandonment of position of a legalized guild, and gross negligence without any prior warning. Luna disagreed with the last one, there was no proof of that, but she was struggling with the whole idea of the last two. She admired the masters that formed the guild, so she couldn't bring herself to treat them horribly, not to mention either of them could defeat her single handed.

Luna was contacted earlier in the day, being told to await the arrival of a representative of the magic council who would be spending the night. Coming up the mountain, Luna saw the white hooded woman walk up the mountain, she would've saved the lady the effort but she was under strict instructions to not leave the guild hall today.  The woman seemed to have a leather suitcase and on her person while carrying a large bag over her shoulder. Luna walked towards the middle of the large patch of land. The woman put down her suitcase when she reached Luna, so she could extend a hand out to Luna who accepted the hand shake. "Hello, I am River Frost, the magic council's representative. You must be, oh, dear, how do I address you? Lunaris? Luna? LuShirain?"

Luna noted that the girl surely did her homework. Only humans that know her Fairy formal name are those who she told, or looked at her files.  "Just call me Luna, Lunaris gets a bit tedious to say, LuShirain is only used in formalities. I was born in Fiore, but my mother taught me a great deal about her culture. Sorry to make you come up all this way, guild members can teleport up and down the mountain at will. Can I get those for you?" Luna offered to carry the woman's luggage, it was clearly a large and long journey for the woman. "It's quite alright, you were following instructions, I was the one not aware of how, long the climb was." The woman only handed the bag over her shoulder as she couldn't let the suitcase be handled by others.  "Allow me to show you your room for the night, then we can get to business."

River nodded as she agreed with the Wizard. Luna walked the woman to the western side of the castle to the corridors on the third floor, no one had been moved into yet. Luna put the sack down on the dresser. "This should be out of the way, very few reasons for anyone to come up this way. We haven't mapped out the whole place yet." River nodded, grateful for Luna to go through with the whole ordeal. "Want to talk here or wait till we get to the Guild Master's chambers?" River nodded, the bulk of her work required what can be found in that room, plus the Ace in front of her, who was unaware she would lose that title one way, or another. "Better we do this in there. It's sound proof, right?"

Luna nodded as she led the lady to a room on the fourth floor, it was adjacent to the library's second floor, and had two medium sized thick doors. Luna opened the doors to a circular room that appeared to have been at one point used as a study. There were empty bookshelves lining the walls around the golden room, a painting of a night sky above the door. There was a desk, a throne like chair and three chairs on the opposite side. There was a window with a breath taking view over the cliff in front of the castle, with a long comfortable couch and coffee table in front of the window. River was impressed, the castle was something to behold. "Wow, is every room in this castle made of gold? How did they build this place?" Luna nodded, sharing her thoughts on the castle to take her mind of the overlying issue. "You see, we've had many theories, magically generated, mined off world, formed from a gold meteor,  stolen from a alternate world, and the one most of us settled on, made of stone before alchemy."

On the desk was a pile of unopened letters, all from the magic council. River noted that all seals were untouched. On one of the shelves held a few log books, while the latest was on the desk. There were three binders containing information about the guild members, which raised a big question for River. "Are those safe right there?" Luna nodded, she walked out of the room and the three binders vanished, but reappeared when she walked in. "Magically enchanted, only exists inside this room when an Ace or Master is present. Those are just copies, the pages are solidified illusions, they don't exist outside this room. Normally the log book is kept downstairs for now, but I moved it up here temporarily, " River noted that down. "Neat, where are the originals?"

Luna led River to the other side of the desk and pointed to toe safe underneath it. River sat down on the couch after taking the recent log book. She opened her brief case and compared the logs to notes  "I see, this one appears to be all I need. We haven't received this week's logs yet. Alright. I am going to forego the inspection of the guildhall, special circumstances and you seem to have the run of it for now. Now, I am going to let you know now, the situation is not bad, but it's still quite critical."  Luna was confused by what the girl meant, however she knew that she had to pay attention. "What do you mean by that?" River seemed to prepare a document as she was building up to the explanation. "Oh,you see, a guild, especially a legalized wizard guild needs a master. Fact is, we understand that this guild was formed of the members of the late Crystal Swan. We understand the trouble and the stress all this has brought upon your founding members and those who have came, and especially those yet to come. Which is why the magic council made their decision. They sent a letter, here, read it."

River handed Luna a letter signed with the seal of the Magic Council. Luna gently opened the letter and read it aloud. "Dear Lunaris "Luna" Mira, otherwise known as LuShirain, Lunaris Daughter of Shirain, so on and so forth. As you have been informed, the status of Guild Master of Aurora has been removed from the possession of 'Theo Silverblood' and 'Rin Mayou'. No clear will of succession was made by either party, leaving succession of the guild essentially null. The Magic Council has determined that the Guild known as Aurora should remain in place, but after due diligence and research, concern for the successor of the previous Guild Masters has been raised. A decision has been reached after all candidates examined carefully. Out of all candidates, you have been nominated for your qualities such as maintaining order, honesty, and integrity. You shall take on the role and the full responsibilities of Guild Master, or disband the guild. No substitutions are allowed, the Magic Council must ensure that Guild Masters are stable. You have twenty four hours from time reading this letter to decide."  At the bottom of the page was the emblem of the magic council, to prove the letter was in fact genuine.

Luna's golden heart was racing as anxiety was overcoming her, she had two options but both seemed to scare the essence of life out of her. Her hands trembling, she could either shoulder the biggest burden she'd ever face, or be the reason the family she helped establish breaks apart. She wanted to scream, she wanted to pick neither. Standing up, she couldn't handle the stress. She opened the window behind the couch. "Would you mind if I excused myself for a moment." River nodded, not sure where Luna was going with this. "Sure, I understand if you need a moment of privacy..." Luna took off her ring and tossed it up as she quickly forced herself to change into her fairy form, unaware she forgot to dematerialize her human clothes. River looked confused as to the display, but assumed  Her fairy form was floating midair as the Lightning Dragon Eye landed around her neck. Luna flew out with great haste into the mountains a fair distance away from the castle before she let out all her frustrations in a single scream.

Meanwhile River was looking around the chamber, where she found one of Luna's letters to Rin, where she asked to be taken off of constant infirmary duty, explaining that she wanted to spend more time with her sister. She now felt sympathetic for the girl, realizing that this was a hellish decision for the fairy. "I see, I'd be screaming to the heavens too if I was her. Ironic, most wizards try to gain status, she's been trying to lose it. Now it's gain status or lose everything."

After Luna had let out her stress verbally, she had attracted the attention of the guardian of the castle, the unicorn known as Murphy. "Fairy! Are you alright?" Luna flew down, and sat on top of the Unicorns head, leaning back on the horn, holding her legs as she rested her chin on her knees her wings were on either side of the horn. Luna was on the verge of breaking down. "No..." The unicorn didn't mind the presence of the fairy, who seemed depressed. He gently trotted away to a cave he dwells in a lot, close to the side of the castle before he lied down. "If you wish, you may find a consort in me." Luna sighed, thinking it couldn't hurt to talk to Murphy about the issue. "I suppose you've noticed the masters, or should I say former masters haven't been around lately."

The Unicorn let out a exhale at the thought of Theo, he was glad to not have seen him, however he did note the scarcity of the other.  "Aye, and what of it? Is there a new Master?" Luna shook her head but remembered the unicorn couldn't see her. "Sorta, but the Magic Council, the governing body above us, has made a ultimatum ruling. Either I take over as Master, or I disband the guild, no substitutes. I joined the guild so I could provide for my younger sister, give her a better life. However I love the guild, we are a family, we are close, and we are establishing roots here, hell even Neptuna who's had no stable home or interaction with mermaids. I want to keep things going... But I am no leader, I can't lead an army to war." Murphy listened to the girl, patiently, he did not follow completely but he understood enough to comprehend the dilemma. He shared his thoughts on the matter and addressed the issue plainly.  "So, you stand to lose both families immediately, or run the danger of losing all from mistakes you don't know will happen. That is your dilemma, you're afraid of your own weakness, yet you already were haunted by fear of your strength."

Luna heard Murphy's analysis of her situation, and she couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity. She was now afraid she was too weak after being possessed by a fear of being to strong. "When you point it out like that, I gotta bow to the absurd. Just, this is one hell of a mess." During a pause of silence lasting a few minutes, Luna dwelled on the subject as she was not able to decide. Murphy broke the silence, giving his last bit of advice to the fairy. "Remember, think of the future you strive to build, and not of yourself." Luna started to fly away, realizing that she should probably return to the castle. "Thank you Murphy, you have been a great help." The Unicorn exhaled from his nose. "Anytime, your presence is, tolerable. I hope this won't be the last."

Luna flew out of the cave, before she flew into the castle through a window. Luna found herself in the infirmary. She spent a good number of hours setting the room and several others up. She remembered the good times and the bad surrounding it, and wouldn't change a single of of them. She fluttered through the castle, she stopped in front of the Mess Hall. She recalled the times the guild members spent, whether it be catching a meal or sharing a drink, the joys and tears. Everything seemed to weigh upon her before she kept going.

Eventually she realized she had to go back to River. She flew outside of the castle and around, back to the Guild Master's chambers, and into the pile of her clothing before regaining human form. She saw River holding a contract, who noticed the sudden appearance of the fairy. River jumped aback startled. "Holy crap! That was, well, are you feeling any better?" Luna shrugged before she checked her iLac, she had a message from her sister. She was saying she was going to be at a sleepover with some friends tonight. Luna almost cried, she realized she had almost everything she wanted right here, and she was wavering in faith. She realized that  She texted Zina back that it was alright, and that she'd need to have a talk with her when she gets home. She kept the details vague because it could go one of two ways, and until Luna knew which way best to keep things in check.

She took a deep breath as she factored in all the details, but she knew one thing and the only important thing. She was not willing to let the family of the Aurora guild fall apart because she was afraid. She looked at River with a strong conviction in her eyes. "I'll do it, I will become the next Guild Master of Aurora." River pulled a pen out of her suitcase and signed the witness portions of the contracts before putting them on the table, slidind the papers and the pen over to Luna. Luna read the contract carefully. She saw that there were strings attached to becoming the next Guild Master that she would have to adhere to, but she already set her heart and soul on keeping the guild alive.

"Let's see, I'd be responsible for the maintenance of the guild, ensuring all reports reach the magic council, and all known responsibilities a Guild Master owes his/her guild. her is circled in all instances, guess this was prepared for me. However there are a few odd clauses labeled as situational remedies I must provide, like, I have to reach A rank by-" Luna froze for a moment, she was starting to realize the pressure was coming in force but still not close to full and she was already on the verge of feeling overwhelmed. "I, I see. That's a bit quick." Luna kept reading through the contract, figuring it couldn't get any worse. "Not too bad, I just gotta make sure duties are taken care of, inform the Magic Council if and when I am out of Fiore, and in formal writing to, well, I see.." After speed reading the contract, she picked up the pen and walked over to the desk.

She clicked the ballpoint pen and in a swift motion signed the paper. The tattoo of the guild crest on the back of her neck lit up for a second. River stood up and collected the contract, putting it away in her brief case. Luna and River exchanged a brief handshake before  River started to leave the room. "It was an honor to work with you. Best of luck in the future. I think I'll retire for the night and see myself out in the morning." Luna sat down in the large chair as the woman saw herself out. "Safe travels, again, sorry about the travel." River laughed a bit, she knew that Luna was not the one who caused the problem.  "It's fine, you don't owe me any apologies. You were just following your instructions. Not to mention you're inheriting the problems."

After River left the room, Luna hunched over and she completely broke as her smile broke,  stress eating at her from the inside out. She was now responsible for more then a handful of people. She stood up and walked over to the door, before shutting it. She snapped her fingers, the flame lacrima chandelier above her seemed to dimmer as she walked over to the couch, and laid down on it and stared at the sky, looking at the stars, praying that things would get simpler.  Luna drifted to sleep and woke up the next day. She checked on River, the room was already vacated. The Magic Council seemed to want to streamline and keep this process hidden.

She closed the door but out of the corner of her eye, she thought she saw something shimmering around the corner, she walked around the corner and saw nothing. Thinking it was just an illusion, she decided to make her way to the mess hall. However as she walked down one hall way, she found that the light disappeared as she got close to the end. This took her on a wild goose chase through several floors, and eventually through a part of the castle with no windows, and seemed to be a dark corridor until the multiple colored light shined from behind a large solid gold door that had no clear way of opening, (no buttons, no levers, no handles) and the shined, lighting up the hallway.

Luna approached the door, amazed by the prospects of what's behind the door. She heard a few have tried coming this way but the gold door seemed resistant to all methods of opening and bypass. "Wow, what is going on here?" Luna slowly walked down the corridor, and the crest of the Aurora Guild appeared on the door in a array of shifting colors before the door seemed to fade into a translucent hologram, revealing stone stairs leading down into the mountain. "Odd, does this door, no, does this castle have a will of it's own? Or does the magic only react to certain people?" Luna passed through the door, which solidified after she passed through. She walked down the stairs, curious by the mysterious force leading her down as she had no clue as to what it could be. The stairs downward seemed to extend forever, the golden heart of the fairy accelerated with anticipation as she got closer to the end.

However, the end was approaching as Luna could see the light at the end of the tunnel. The stairs seemed to lead to a circular room but the content's were not quite visible yet. Luna was at a loss for words  as what she saw was incredible and indescribable in the confined cave room. Her thoughts on what she was witnessing were indescribable. "What in Shirain's name is this..."

    "Welcome Lunaris..."
