Special Characteristics:
- Spoiler:
- Due to his “Son of Osiris” lineage, Reshefs true body is not that of a regular human mage, but rather that of a fully sentient, free-willed, sense-capable, undead Pharaoh Mummy which can move under its own power. However, he most often keeps this form under wraps by using the permanent, absolute visual trigger illusion of a regular human mage that he casts on himself through his lineage’s power to avoid freaking any beholders out.
- Due to his “Son of Osiris” lineage, Reshef has a hidden mystical third eye (non-physical) that is situated horizontally in the center of his forehead (this also glows an eerie red like his two main eyes). He also has an ultra-durable skeleton, teeth, (especially canines), and pointed ears like those of a vampire.
- Due to his “Son of Osiris” lineage, instead of any sense organs or internal organs, Reshef has “Soul Spheres” located at key points in his body which simulate the functions of his organs. Due to these “Soul Spheres”, his eyes, the inside of his mouth, and the center of his chest (at the visible part) glow an eerie red color which emanates an overwhelming sense of dread.
- Due to his "Son of Osiris" lineage, Reshef has a hidden, fully functional, fully formed mouth in each palm. These have all the parts of his main mouth (lips, teeth, and tongue) and are ultra-durable just like the rest of him.
- Due to his “Son of Osiris” lineage, Reshef does not have any of the bodily needs of regular human magi. He also is free from the threat of ageing and that of natural death. He can still appear to have regular human bodily needs and functions as well as appear to age naturally and even simulate injury and/or death if necessary.
- Reshef still has the scars scattered across various parts of his body from when he and his father were confined by the "Four Fingers" pirate crew who were looking to get information on the location of the legendary treasures of the ancient Disiertan pharaohs from them.

Personality:
- Spoiler:
Pros:
Analytical: Reshef has a sharp mind which, thanks to his 180+ IQ, is capable of analysis and deductive reasoning at such a level that the unaware may think he is clairvoyant when he is nothing of the sort. He has an uncanny ability to break down a problem into its simplest bits, study it from all angles, and then use this information to construct the optimal solution. He can even synthesize seemingly unrelated data and come up with an effective solution to problems which may stymie others who don’t possess his skills. This makes him an irksome enemy and an even more valuable ally since he can come up with an effective way to neutralize his enemy’s magic after seeing it just a few times.
Approachable: Reshef has been instructed in the ways of high society and proper social decorum. So, he tends to use these to maintain a highly convincing veneer of affability which he uses to lure potentially useful people into his social circle in order to have willing agents whom he can then subtly manipulate as he sees fit should the need arise to do so. When on a job this trait comes in handy since he can get into the good books of the client and any ordinary target relatively easily, especially when he combines it with his silver-tongued persuasive side.
Bold: Unless he is faced with one of his deep-seated phobias, opponent(s), or mission request that has proven to be overwhelmingly strong and far beyond his capabilities to handle, Reshef can be fairly swift and decisive in his actions. He will not hesitate to jump headlong into danger if it means he can save one of his allies, his pets, etc. If deliberation on the issue is taking too long, he will often just pick a path and go with the flow down that road wherever it may lead him. He almost never looks back once he has made his choice, even if sometimes, this may lead to him getting hurt or hurting others in the process. He has inherited this from his father and also has had to develop this due to the adversities he has had to face early in life which have forced him to mature rapidly in this regard.
Calm: Reshef has had to endure many a trying situation in his life till present, many of which no child should ever have had to go through at all. So, he has ended up becoming sort of jaded over the years. He has also learned that it’s too much of a hassle to panic regardless of the situation. He prefers to keep a cool head and take most things in stride. Despite what he has to do, he is able to keep an almost unnervingly inscrutable face with a porcelain smile which tends to make any attempts to read him via facial expression and/or body language pretty much useless.
Creative: Since he has been given a broad-based liberal arts education and has inherited his mother’s creativity, Reshef can be rather innovative in his approaches to answering any challenges he may face over the course of both daily life or even on jobs. Where others may stumble when asked to come up with fresh new ideas from already existing ones, he excels since he has an uncanny ability to put together standard ideas, materials, and the like in new ways which other may not have thought of before. He can also improvise on the fly when he combines this with his superior intellect, thus allowing him to not only craft entirely new plans from scratch, but also to tweak them to continually adapt them to suit the changing needs of the situation.
Instinctive: Over the years, Reshef has learned to trust his instincts when his intellect and reasoning happens to fail him. They have almost never led him wrong in the past and so, if he encounters a situation which requires a more intuitive approach rather than a logical one, he wouldn’t hesitate to do as his instinct demands of him, regardless of the moral ramifications of his actions. He is able to sense when it is advisable to take a leap of faith and just go ahead and do something instead of waiting to analyse it. Conversely, he can also sense when it would be best to turn tail and run in the opposite direction even if the signs are not immediately apparent to his senses. Thus, he has managed to survive up till now.
Patient: Reshef has a far larger degree of patience than most regular people especially since he has learned the hard way that rushing into things when the time is not right can easily backfire on him. So, nowadays, he prefers to wait till the time is right, till the enemy has dropped their guard, and till their weapons lie forgotten and their magic reserves running on empty or very near it to make his move so that it won’t be as much of a hassle to overpower them. This large measure of patience allows him to resist showing his boredom when someone is trying some kind of antics to get his attention or to otherwise annoy him. It also makes him a good instructor and a good listener when it comes to any clients thus increasing the likelihood of them consulting him again. This also means he is very thorough in coming up with the solutions to any problem he may encounter in the course of his jobs or in daily life.
Perceptive: Reshef is a fairly perspicacious person, both due to genetics giving him a keen eye for detail and also due to life forcing him to be so from an early age in order to prolong his survival during adversity. As a result, he now has the ability to note even minute details which may seem insignificant to others. He can also see right to the heart of any matter despite the enemy’s attempts the muddle the issue in order to prevent him from achieving success. Furthermore, he can also usually a clear path from the problem to the solution which will best suit him as he tries to remedy the issue at hand. In addition to this, he is able to visualize the ramifications of seemingly meaningless decisions or actions taken by others or even himself even if said ramifications happen to be far in the foreseeable future. Thus, he would prove to be a valuable ally to have and an irksome person to make an enemy of for most ordinary folk.
Persuasive: Reshef has a silver tongue which he picked up from observing his father and many of the somewhat shady business partners he has had in the past. As a result, he can verbally charm his way into the good graces of practically any ordinary person, male or female, though he prefers to use this skill only on the ladies. This allows him to cajole the target into doing favors for him when he happens to need them because of his own skills falling short of handling the situation. This also helps him coax a bit more cash reward or some other interesting means of payment out of the client when he reports back to them after a job well done. If the enemy on a job is the target, then it allows him to cause them to drop their guard around him, allowing him to save much of the energy he would have otherwise used to power through said guard.
Pragmatic: Despite his background in the liberal arts and his profession being one of the humanities subjects, Reshef is no dreamer. In fact, he doesn’t have a single romantic bone in his entire body. He happens to be very practical in any venture he happens to pick up for himself. He never ever invests in anything which he doesn’t feel is lucrative to him in some way, either in terms of monetary reward or some other tangible reward. Thus, he is able to allocate resources effectively and save them up for a rainy day. He also only takes on challenges that he knows have a high chance of success and constantly weighs his abilities against the challenges of the situation before actually diving into it, allowing him to have the largest measure of success possible with his particular repertoire. When matched up against an enemy, he usually tends to be very down to earth in how he deals with them, even if said methods tend to be frowned upon by most people. He won’t hesitate to use even the dirtiest of tricks if it means he can resolve the conflict in the most efficient way possible. This is another trait that makes him a good ally.
Resourceful: Reshef has learned to be highly adaptive in how he approaches any situation. Not only does he keep all his options open in order to be able to come up with the best solution possible, but he has also acquired the capability to work with even low grade materials to come up with the most effective solution to the problem at hand. This allows him to function at an acceptable level even under adverse, low resource conditions which may set others back. This allows him to be quite flexible in the face of any new challenges that may arise, but more so because it would be too much of a hassle trying to procure higher grade resources if his environment isn’t conducive to acquiring them. This, combined with his creativity make him a valuable ally and an annoyance for his enemies.
Tenacious: Despite his incorrigible laziness,
Reshef can be quite determined and persistent in certain situations. Of course, there usually has to be something about these situations or someone involved that would make him want to show this hidden determination of his to the world, especially since he likes maintaining his image as a lazy ass. However, if these conditions are met, he will doggedly pursue the resolution of the situation, often by any means necessary until he sees it through to the end no matter the bitterness or sweetness of the outcome or at least until the point when his magic power starts to run on empty. This will be the case even if the odds should turn against him in that situation, thus making him a valuable ally and an irksome enemy for just about any ordinary person.
Neutrals:
Adventurous: Marik has an almost overpowering wanderlust which causes new and especially unexplored frontiers or old places like ancient ruins to be like an irresistible magnet to him, drawing him towards them like a moth to flame. He loves to study and explore such locations in minute detail whenever the mood strikes him until his curiosity has been sated for the time being. Of course, he works fast so this doesn’t take him very long at all. Therefore, he never tends to stay in one place for very long, although he usually tries to keep his clients in the loop, that is, whenever his innate indolence is not getting in the way. His curiosity and his unpredictability make this worse since there is almost no one (besides maybe his fellow Liu clan members) who can even hope to predict where he will be next week, in a few months from then, and so on and also because he may even leave his current camping grounds before he has actually finished exploring and documenting them should his whims ever push him to do so. This is a double edged sword because while it does give him a broad mind which can accept cultures and customs different from his own as well as worldly knowledge, it can prove to be quite irritating for friend and foe alike.
Comical: In spite of his pragmatism, Marik can never resist playing the fool as often as possible. These run the gamut in terms of character and content. He also loves playing practical jokes on people, no matter what their social station relative to his own or how much more powerful or weaker they are compared to him...well, at least until his own health and welfare come to harm because of this side of himself. Of course, whether people laugh at him or with him means little to him as long as he can sate his own craving for amusement. This can be a blessing and a curse for while it does keep people entertained for some time, since he cannot resist goofing off even when he shouldn’t, it can tend to rub them the wrong way before too long.
Curious: Marik's thirst for knowledge and acquiring exotic items and entities, regardless of their nature,, is almost insatiable and it drives him to relentlessly pursue any and all sources of knowledge or other exotic items and entities wherever they may exist in the world, whether that be hidden in an millennia old library in some random desert, in the treasure vault guarded by a dragon, buried 20,000 leagues under the ocean surface, or anywhere else. Of course, this only applies if said knowledge piques his curiosity enough to make him get up off his rear and exert himself, which in and of itself is quite rare. His curiosity sometimes even leads him to flout conventions and customs held as unbreakable or otherwise sacred by most of the populace, but that will not deter him from trying to acquire said target, that is of course, if it has managed to rouse his slumbering curiosity. This being said, if something else that is more curious and fascinating happens to catch his attention while he is engaged in his present quest, he won’t hesitate to drop his current efforts and rush off to chase his new Muse as far as she will lead him. The only time when he would consider relenting is when it proves to be too far beyond his abilities to handle or too dangerous for even his health. This is both good and bad for while it does afford him a vast library from which to draw should he ever need references as well as an enormous collection to fawn over, study to his heart’s content, and employ in a variety of situations; it also means it is easy to distract him from his current focus with the almost irresistible allure of such exotic things.
Lawful: Generally speaking, Marik does follow the laws of the land and those of any groups associated with him. However, his obedience is more to the letter of the law than to its spirit and deeper import. That being said, he does try to exploit any and all loopholes whenever and wherever he can such that it benefits him in the end while still keeping him in the bounds of said legislation, safe from scrutiny of the truly lawful good people. This can be a positive since it means he is quite loyal to the land where he happens to be residing as well as its government and any organizations he is a part of and will not hesitate to punish those whom the government or organizations order him to punish for them. However, it can just as easily be a negative for it means he will always view the actions of others in black and white, as far as the law is concerned about them. He can never comprehend that sometimes, even if the letter of the law may need to be broken, so long as the overall spirit is intact and followed, people can still be in the right even when they are in that grey zone between the legal and illegal. Hence, he maybe led to wrongly punishing these people if the clients happen to be the makers of said laws. Of course, if an impressive sum of money, some sort of exotic pet/summon, or perhaps some sort of magical artifacts/items are involved, Raseth would most likely abandon his strict lawful self due to irresistible temptation these hold for him.
Logical: Marik is more a creature of reason than emotion and instinct. In fact, he abhors emotion and sentiment since he feels they would upset the cold, precise, and finely balanced nature of his thought process. He never speaks of emotion and sentiment highly except when it is to praise their great utility in facilitating his observations of his targets and those around them as well as for drawing the veil of mystery from the motivations behind their actions. However, to him, letting such emotion and sentiment into his finely trained mind would be a lethal blow to the reliability of the results achieved by his analysis of the data he acquires from his observations of his targets. While this ensures that his results are never tainted and are highly precise and accurate, it also makes it hard for him to reciprocate the feelings of others may have towards him such as the softer passions like love or kindness. That said, he does still appreciate physical passions (e. g. sexual desire, physical addiction), psychological cravings or just regular emotions such as joy, sorrow, hatred, anger, etc.
Theatrical: As part of the education in high culture and also in the liberal arts that his parents decided to make him undergo from childhood, Marik had to take classes in the theatrical arts from all over the world, especially those of Disierto and Midia. As a result, he has had a flair for the dramatic right from his younger years which is still going strong in present day. This is why he often tends to give unnecessarily complicated introductions, strike totally tacky poses, and just generally speak in purposefully stilted, archaic manner. This is both good and bad for while it does serve to entertain onlookers and can come in handy when trying to deceive others, it can be quite a pain to deal with when time is of the essence and things need to be kept simple and straightforward.
Cons:
Arrogant: Interestingly enough, despite his upbringing being in high culture, due to him knowing that he is the descendant of the ancient pharaohs of Disierto, Marik is still quite haughty towards others especially if he knows they are weaker than him. This may cause him to mock others especially if he knows that they are inferior to him in some way and sometimes ends up being a grievous flaw since it leads him to underestimate the opponent’s ability and overestimate his own, with the inevitable conclusion of failure to win that particular conflict. He will at times decline jobs that he feels are too far beneath his skill level, especially if they hold no reward that is acceptable to him. He will be very hesitant to associate with those whom he feels are too far beneath him unless they have something that proves to be alluring to him. As a result, he tends to alienate many people after they have gotten to know him.
Cowardly: Despite his boldness in making decisions and acting on them, Marik is actually quite afraid of a lot of things in the world around him. These can be animals, usually ones that he had a bad experience with in the past. With people, it depends on their power and ability compared to his own. If their power or ability happens to surpass his by leaps and bounds, then that will scare him enough to make him avoid them as far as possible. He is also scared of more abstract things such as commitment (especially if it’s long lasting) since to him, there is always a possibility that it would be stifling to his love of travel and of engaging in his other hobbies. It’s also because he is afraid of the other party suggesting the commitment being able to hold power over him to influence his life in ways that he cannot foresee and prepare any truly effective countermeasures to neutralize them. Finally, since he is a creature of the dark, he is naturally scared witless by anything holy or of holy people, although it wouldn’t be obvious by just looking at him since he tends to bottle up his weaknesses inside and not show them. Of course, since he is partly undead, he is highly resistant to physiological influence of any sort.
Cruel: Marik can be quite cruel towards his enemies at times. However, his torture is quite clinical in how it takes place for he chooses to target those spots on their body which would cost him the least energy to target and elicit the best response from his enemies, that is, the information or whatever else he happens to be needing from them in that situation. He also takes his time and uses a “thousand cuts” approach instead of causing singular, massive wounds to their bodies. He also combines it with psychological pressure by doing things like threatening those near and dear to his enemies or by attacking something they hold precious if torturing said enemy directly won’t suffice to accomplish his objective. At other times, he may choose sensory deprivation, or perhaps offering them salvation from their bodily needs such as hunger and thirst, but keeping it just out of their reach while he enjoys said food and drink. However, he does not take pleasure in it and only uses these torture and other related techniques if he needs information or something else from his enemies and they are refusing to give it to him.
Deceptive: Marik can be quite tricky in how he goes about doing things. He will not hesitate to try every dirty trick in the book if it means his victory over his target. He often uses several layers of misdirection where he chooses to achieve smaller, seemingly auxiliary objectives in order to confound his targets. He also has no qualms about feigning weakness, fright, injury, or even outright defeat and betrayal of his allies if it means his enemies will drop their guard and facilitate his victory over them. He might pretend to let the enemy go free without finishing them off, only to attack them when their backs are turned and he has a clear shot at their blind spots. In fact, this is preferred style of combat over the much more energy intensive task of breaking down the enemy’s defenses through the use of sheer force since it costs him less energy to do so. He also has no scruples about lying through his teeth to his clients if whatever it is they asked him to retrieve for them happens to catch his eye and make him crave it for himself, though he only ever bothers to tell lies that seem highly plausible in those given circumstances. He will even display fake emotions to mislead people if it means he can coax favors, information, and other things he may need from them in a given situation. This is just one of the many things that make him a headache not only for his enemies, but also for his allies as well since he has no qualms about deceiving allies and friends if the situation requires it of him.
Insensitive: Marik is quite incapable of empathizing with others and consoling them in their hour of need. He tends to tell those who come to him for comfort to galvanize themselves by their own power against the source of their grief and also to just accept it and move on with their lives. He never tries to sweeten the facts of the situation if they should be unpalatable to his listeners and instead just gives them in a brutally honest way. He can never quite read the mood of any given occasion, despite his high perspicacity, so he often ends up touching topics which may be hurtful to those around him, especially if they are trying to avoid dealing with the issue.
Judgemental: Marik tends to jump to conclusions about others based on their birth, their species, and other things about them instead of focusing on their individual merits. He also never gives them the benefit of the doubt especially if they have hurt him in some way before. So, he tends to discriminate against them and usually ends up rubbing them the wrong way because of this trait.
Lazy: When he is not under the influence of his intense wanderlust urges, Marik can usually be found being indolent, either taking a nap at home on the lap pillow made by his pet. If not at home, he can usually be found outside lying spread-eagle upon the lap pillow of his pet against the backdrop of the grassy meadows somewhere outside the Liu family compound, either hanging out with his summons, doing magic R&D, playing shogi, reading mystery novels, or something else among his hobbies. He doesn’t like exerting himself and will try all the tricks in his repertoire to avoid doing whatever it is that’s being asked of him at that moment if possessed by this spirit of laziness. He also almost never tries to fight the flow of a given situation. He would much rather just be carried along with it and just reconcile himself to the result regardless of its nature. During these spells of sloth, his eyes will appear listless and devoid of expression, even more so than they are normally. He will also have a fine layer of stubble growing from his chiselled, strongly set jawline during these periods and his hair which he at least tries to tame otherwise grows wild and unkempt during these times. He can be quite intractable when he is like this, making him quite the headache to deal with for his allies or clients. If he has to do the task anyway, he will try to finish it as quickly as possible by using his high intellect to find the shortest path of least resistance from the problem to the solution so he can resume being the lazy layabout he usually is during these spells.
Manipulative: Another consequence of his laziness is Marik’s tendency for manipulation, whether the target be ally, family, or foe being immaterial to him. Since he does not like to exert his own energies and resources, he tries to cajole others around him into doing his work for him and use their energies and resources on his behalf, at least partially if not fully. He also tends to do this if he needs or wants to get out of a sticky situation or in one where he is bereft of resources such as money and time. If he is in battle, he will often try his best to maneuver both the elements of the environment as well as his enemies and even his allies such that he would have to exert the least amount of energy and can achieve the most optimal results possible by trying to make the path of least resistance manifest itself to him.
Pessimistic: Despite his tenacity, Marik has had too many bad encounters in his life thus far. As a result, he had grown jaded and no longer expects anything much in the way of positive results or equal compensation in exchange for whatever effort or resources he may dedicate to a given venture. He always expects the worst to happen whether or not said misfortune actually comes to pass and never holds out any kind of hope, either to himself or to others. This is true of his view about other people as well, so he tends to set very low bars for them to fulfil should he need anything of them and redoubles his efforts to prepare for all the worst scenarios possible behind their backs so that even if they end up failing according to his expectations, he can control the damage in such a way that it will not end up becoming a royally nightmarish hassle for him later on.
Private: Ever since childhood, Marik has usually very quiet, whenever the urge to be dramatic has not possessed him, of course. He is also not the sharing kind of guy and so tends to play things close to the vest and bottles up all his biggest secrets inside since he doesn’t quite trust others to safeguard his secrets if he were to confide in them. Of course, he never actually shows this distrust of others openly and instead politely excuses himself when someone asks him about his secrets, especially those about his past or lineage. He prefers to keep to himself mostly whenever he is not being dragged about by his family and other acquaintances and chooses to entertain himself by observing the events happening around him or the people around him silently or perhaps through the pursuit of one of the handful of his hobbies. As a result, he doesn’t have quite as large a social circle as others. In fact, he never even seeks to add to it voluntarily and lets his family and other acquaintances widen it for him if they are inclined to do so. That said, he never turns away potential allies or acquaintances should they actively seek him out to get to know him better or if they need his help, unless of course, his skills do not match up the task they wish him to do for them.
Sarcastic: Depending on the situation and his mood, Marik’s sarcasm can range from being harmless to the acerbic kind which has significantly more bite to it. This often rears its ugly head when he is under the influence of one of his slothful states and wants to do nothing but while away the time without exerting himself or when someone points out something which is extremely obvious. However, it is rather apparent when he is about to turn on his sarcastic charm for he will close his eyes and start breathing deeply. If the target of his impending sarcastic wit doesn’t stop their attempts to rile him up, the corners of his mouth turn downward ever so slightly. Finally, his eye will open, but only a slight fraction of their fully open state while his nostrils will flare while the body of his nose shrinks inward slightly at which point, he will begin his sharp, curt verbal retorts which practically ooze sarcasm.
Unpredictable: Even though Marik tends to be highly pragmatic in his modus operandi, he is anything but predictable. He answers to his whims more than he does to the any real moral code, although he does tend to follow the rule of law as long as it benefits him to do so. However, the exact manner of his following the law will always be up in the air. He will twist the conventional interpretations of the law and morality just when its enforcers least expect it. He tends to appear when and where people would least expect him, with little in the way of advance warning if any at all. He also tends to turn his moral code from “good” to “evil” in a heartbeat if he were to find it amusing or interesting to do so or if it is convenient for him to do so in order to resolve a given situation. Thus, no one can truly predict what he will do at what moment, making him somewhat of a headache for anyone who has to put up with him.
