Ah the spooky forest. Dark, Gloomy, and away from civilization. This was the perfect place to come and relax, letting all your worries go away as you sit back and enjoy nature. Lance looked around at the bright sun through the trees, squinting his golden eyes as he did. He sighed and sat down cross legged on the ground. Looking around him he could see that he was in a medium sized circular clearing that was rather deep in the forest. He placed his hand underneath his chin, resting his head on it before taking a deep breathe in and a deep breathe out. He collapsed onto the ground with a thud, staring back up into the sky before closing his eyes and drifting off into a slumber.

He awoke about an hour later when he felt the tiny bristles of whiskers gliding continuously across his face and the short and rapid breathes of air brushing against his nose. is eyes drifted open slowly to find that he was nose to nose with a bright orange fox. The moment he opened his eyes the fox hopped off of him and kept it's distance. He smiled softly at it an knelt up so that he was on one knee. "Hey. I'm not going to hurt you little guy." he spoke wit ha soft tone of voice, trying to comfort the creature.

As much as Lance wanted to avoid people, he didn't mind animals. In fact, he felt comfort in them and they seemed to also find comfort in him as the fox would slowly take a few steps forward cautiously before moving towards the mage willingly. Lance would gently lay a hand on the animals head. "You're safe. Nothing will hurt you when I am around." he smiled gently as he looked down at the creature before him.

Post by Haraka Omaras 18th August 2018, 12:20 am

The spooky forest had seemed so dead quiet last time he was here. It seemed like the perfect place to teach William some basic things, or to try. The baby was still in the phase of growth where they learned through observation and tasting everything. Haraka wasn't exactly expecting to get anywhere, but at least out here? Nobody would watch him try to teach a baby things, fail, then give into play time and animal care. Of course, it being quiet didn't mean nobody was there. Last time the mixed blood had been here, he hadn't even been part of a guild yet. It would be careless to act too casual and knowing around a place you hadn't visited in years. This was why Omaras was fully dressed in guild attire and certain body parts were tucked far away. The last thing needed was making random strangers think he was a monster. Then again the mix blood didn't exactly look normal even at him most well dressed. Humans don't have ice blue skin. Safe doesn't normally include a man with big curved horns. Friendly usually lacks talon like nails that look to be carved out of stone. At least the necklace under the young looking mans dress shirt kept glowing from being yet another thing there to remind the world that the shrimp demon wasn't normal. The world reminded him far too often for him to ever forget just how lucky the man was to be alive. Even those who seemed the nicest tended to have their limits on what they deemed should and shouldn't be allowed to be born.

Every new life was born clean and pure though, each one with endless possibilities. Yes, they might turn out bad. Wasn't that possible in any species though? Any could have a child grow up to be dark and bitter. Was it placing culture, stereotypes and meaning over those too young to comprehend even what the sun is? William wasn't the only reason he felt this way. There was a time he was found in a place where culture deemed it wiser to cull the half demon baby rather than take a chance. His grandmother decided instead to find him a home. She hadn't been perfect, but the dragon woman had still been a wise and loving person. Then again, that ice dragon walked a grey area in racism. She hadn't normally killed any babies, but she was quick 'release' someone from demonic possession when it happened in her area. The woman also hadn't been above killing demon or part demon children who showed 'symptoms' of becoming 'corrupted' by their 'not clean' blood. Then again, did he actually know anyone who wasn't a child that wouldn't fall under the moral grey area? Maybe he was the one in the wrong here though. There were so many people okay with it. Perhaps he was the one who was in the wrong, but accepting that would be like saying he didn't think he should have been left alive. But of course, his dark thinking was interrupted by a clam tapping its foot on Harakas forehead. On his face sat William who probably had no idea what an adult would be thinking.

"Hey there, why are you poking me? Are you hungry? I'm alright, it's alright, you can calm down." Each word was picked based on how the clam reacted to them. It hadn't been curiosity or hunger, just for some reason the creature had been concerned with him. Was it a bad sign when babies start poking you with worry? No, animals were more perceptive than a lot of people, as were babies when it came to emotions. This didn't count as a worrisome thing. A few fingers reached up, softly petting the young ones shell at an attempt to calm them. It seemed to work well enough, William flying off of his face. The creature tucked itself next to its persons neck, it's foot going back inside its shell for now. Of course by that time Omaras had been walking distracted for quite a few minutes. By the time the young looking man looked around, he found the need to stop. Black dress shoes stopped moving, dark sapphire irises moving to look at the man and the fox near by. At least it didn't look like the animal was bothered by him, but that was normal for most animals that didn't try to kill him. So? He wasn't sure if talking was or wasn't a wise idea. Still, it would be worse to be totally silent. "Hello there stranger."

    Balthazar

    Word Count: 295

Having spent a lot of time training in a rather unfriendly forest area in the past, the general spookiness of this place hardly bothered Balthazar. After all, he could consider himself safe for as long as nothing went out if its way to attack him. No actual need to worry about what might not even happen if he kept being careful and all that. Well, that’s how things were supposed to go, but it wouldn’t be life if something didn’t simply fail to happen according to plans once in a while. The bat-like man had originally been taking a trek through this forest, in attempts to do a bit of research on the wildlife located here, in case he would ever need the information in the future. Not gonna lie, some of the job requests he had taken notice of did send people to weird ass places for sure. For a while, he had been doing all fine and dandy, but then he came upon a small group of mischievous squirrels. Nothing wrong with cute animals on trees of course, but when one of them decided to climb down and snatch the pen he was using to jot notes down, there was a problem.

…thus cue in a mildly annoyed Balthazar chasing after the running squirrel, trying to retrieve his stolen pen before he lost track of the small fluffy animal and his possession was gone for good. The chase took him down plenty forest pathways before he managed to get close enough to leap at the squirrel, catching it in his hands while skidding face down on the ground a few meters. Right into the area where the two strangers were already, making for quite a splendid entrance for himself, that was certain.

    “Oomph.”

While he was having fun taking care of the fox he didn't see or hear the dressed man coming up to him and speaking. At the sound of the voice the fox took a step back but Lance quietly shooshed it to calm it down. He kept his attention on the fox as he spoke "Do you always go up to strange looking people in the forest and speak to them?" he stroked the foxes head "Haven't you ever heard of strange-" He was cut off by the sound of another being hitting the floor, the thud causing him to glance towards the source and the fox running off.

Lance sighed and stood up "Damn..." he calmly muttered as he turned around so he could get a full view of the two people in front of him. "Well it looks like we have ourselves a little party." he stuffed his right hand in his coat pocket and used his left to point at the well-dressed person "What's to say I wouldn't mug you if you came up to me like that. Or even worse." he shook his head and pointed to the other guy that had fallen "And you..." he would pinch and shook his head. "I have no words for what just happened with you." he sighed. He would then turn his back to the two and place his hands on his knees as he crouched down "Now I have to get this fox to come back out." he would then fall silent as he tried to get the fox to trust him again.

While he was doing this a rustle would happen from his coat pocket and a little demon poking his head out at looking around before sighing. The demon was red and with a white-tanish belly. He flew out of Lance's hood and sighed, glancing at the man. "Sorry about my master, he has spoken to maybe 2 people in two years... both of them this week..." he flew back and would sit on Lance's head, crossing his arms "The names Ambit and this is my master Lance. It's nice to meet you both!". Lance would not speak but would silently nod as if in agreement with the demon.

Post by Haraka Omaras 19th August 2018, 3:13 am

Did he normally talk to strangers in a forest? No, not in this kind of forest. "Talk to the person I almost walked into while being temporarily blinded by a baby animal? Less awkward than staying silent." Yes, there was a difference between a random stranger and the one you were a few steps from walking on. Then of course there was a loud sound and a skidding young bat male. That couldn't feel all that nice, mainly on ones pride. Was the person okay? Why were they running through this sort of place in the first place? That sort of fall was definitely caused by some speed and failure in balance. An obvious thing to note was the fox running off, it was likely a wild creature. Most wildlife would run from loud sounds like that. Did this guy just threaten to mug him? "You could try to mug the guy that basically has a tiny curved blade on every finger, but it likely wouldn't go over well for you." Well, that was basically what his talons felt like. It was very useful for cooking at least, saved a lot of time. It also meant he had to keep them clean, but that was a must anyway. Part of him wished the pale haired stranger had remained sitting with the fox. Even if that didn't necessarily mean the guy would have spoken nicer, the body movements would have likely been a bit less grumpy. Why? His hands would be full of fox.

Thinking these things wouldn't make the animal return though. Maybe the person would act a bit nicer if he helped with the fox? But first things first, was the bat guy alright? Dark sapphire irises moved in their pools of blue aquamarine. Should he offer a hand? Not offering it could be rude, but to some people offering it would be a suggestion of weakness. So, he spoke again with his soft and gentle voice, "Are you alright? What has you in such a rush?" Haraka soon felt a certain mollusc poke a bare part of his neck with their foot. Before he could respond to that though, a new voice had entered the scene. An apology? Omaras looked over, spotting the tiny demon. That sounded like a lot of isolation, if he didn't count the tiny demon as one for conversation. Well, that at least made it feel a bit less like the guy was contemplating starting a fight. "It's alright, isolation can be pretty rough." From what he has heard and read he was pretty sure that was accurate. "It's a pleasure to meet you both... Well." He glanced over at the bat demon, "three technically?" He shrugged a bit with his shoulders before looking back at the tiny demon. "I'm Haraka, the baby demonic clam on my neck is Count William Akeldama the II."

The mixed blood didn't know why the makers of the trap even used corpses as a fuel for the summon trap. It was basically a resource that would rapidly decay. In any case he still felt the foot tapping against his neck. He knew this tapping, it was the 'I am hungry now' taps. One hand reached into his dress vest, pulling out a small bag made of thick fabric. In his hand reached, Williams foot easing its poking at their person. Out a small chunk of raw meat was pulled. The young looking old man placed it on top of the babies shell, knowing it was an easy to find spot. In response the demonic clam brushed its foot over the shell before grabbing the chunk of meat than pulling it into its shell. After that? William closed up, most likely to start focusing on eating. He would have explained how he got his pet, but he really didn't feel like possible getting in a fight to defend his baby clams right to exist.

Yeah, he heard some of the immediate conversation that transpired after he had landed himself close by. Something about mugging people and whatnot, but he had to compose his briefly scattered brain cells before taking part in this new party of sorts. “I can help, it’s called an unfortunate accident. Guess it’s not the best day today, eh?”, he’d quip, still stretched alongside the ground for the moment. He did take note that this person likely wasn’t too pleased by the interruptions, but he was taking it easy for the time being. Hey, the forest was nobody’s property after all. “And well, wild animals are naturally skittish…speaking of…”, he’d pull his hands apart carefully, making sure to not let that pesky little squirrel escape him too early again, and pluck his pen from its paws before letting it go. The critter would swiftly hope its way up onto a nearby tree, settling to watch them from one of the lower branches, probably curious about what the hell was happening.

Meanwhile, Balthazar would prop himself up on his elbows, looking up towards the voice showing concern for him. “Yeah, nothing broken I think. A squirrel stole my pen, so I was chasing it. Had to…resort to some slightly more drastic moves…”, he’d answer with a faint snort under his breath, finding the situation kind of amusing in retrospect. Well, he got his item back, and he didn’t injure himself. Score? Shifting himself, he would eventually pull up into a cross-legged sitting position, finally taking a proper glance around. Such interesting company, eh? He’d give a wave and a cheeky grin towards the newcomer dragon creature. “I’m used to people disliking me, so luckily for you, I don’t take offense too quickly.” Unless of course, there was legitimate hostility there, or the person was way beyond his tolerance levels of annoyance. He’d gladly sass people and all, but he rarely held full on grudges. “The name’s Balthazar. We’ve got a big animal assortment here I see….”

(I'm so sorry it took so long to post!)

The tiny demon sat on Lance's shoulder, the boys back still turned to the group as he focused on the fox still. "Balthazar and Haraka..." the demon placed its hand on its chin and repeated the names for a second to himself before nodding "Got it! Balthy And Hara!" he said with a grin before flying up and sitting next to the squirrel in the tree. Now that the introductions were done it fell silent for a few seconds.

Lance had kept quiet through all of this before he chuckled "A pen..." he muttered before shaking his head and standing up, smiling at the bat-like man. "You ran so fast that you fell... for a pen!" he laughed and placed his hand on the mans head "You are a true nutcase Bat boy!" he then realized what he said and laughed a little, rubbing the back of his head "Well I guess I am too in that case." he then would turn to Haraku and point at his pet "You there, clam boy, where did you find such an intriguing creature?" He walked over and knelt down in front of it, pushing on the top of it's head with his index finger, his golden eyes gleaming with delight.

Ambit was up in the trees looking down at all this and sighed "Well... at least he's trying to make friends." he smiled down at the white haired man and laughed a little.
