Personality:- Past Life:
Past Life: Katherine was born into a troublingly poor family living in a small village located on the outskirts of what is presently known as Shirotsume. Due to unfortunate circumstances, her upbringing was somewhat lacking in the areas of education and nurturing. Both of her parents were constantly at work in the fields, bringing home barely enough to support the three of them, and thus left the girl on her own from a very young age against their own desires. Though they wished to raise her well and be by her side as any normal parents would, the task was much too expensive for them to afford. Staying home was not an option, even for young Katherine. At the age of six (when most children would be sent to school for the first time), she was sent to work as well, often doing things that no child should ever have to be burdened with. And yet, she remained strong. The girl was gifted with an iron will, understanding that she had to do whatever it took to survive and that she must accept all that she was given, whether it be good or bad. It would all help her to grow into someone her parents could be proud of; that’s all she had ever wanted, from the day they explained to her what must be done for them to live. Even throughout the years leading up to their society’s destruction, when she was faced with tragedy and became crippled at the hands of her own people, she pushed forward, always aiming to become better and more capable. She wanted to protect what she loved, her family. Her determination led her to a quick ascension, becoming the master of her own guild and teaching others like herself how to thrive with what little they had, but it also led her to a sudden and near-deadly collapse. War struck and her home was targeted to be destroyed. While she was a great leader and an even greater fighter, her efforts would not be able to save many at all. More than half of the population was cut down, very few surviving by managing to escape and others… seeming to disappear from existence. Herself included.
- Present:
Present: Where old ended and new began was unclear to her. She woke up sprawled in the midst of overgrown ruins, staring up at a pitch black night sky with only the full moon to illuminate her surroundings. She had no idea who she was; could recall nothing. Not her name, her age, or where she came from. All she knew was that she existed and her body and mind were being endlessly assaulted by pure, unadulterated pain in every form one could possibly imagine. She might have cried, wailed even, but could only lay there. Silent. Blinking slowly. Eventually, she got to her feet, wandering numbly into the closest piece of civilization she could recognize. There began her new life. Over the course of a decade, Katherine would spend her days as a traveler, finding work and making due with what she could get her hands on in order to live. In doing this, however, she would discover things about herself. She did not need to eat, breathe or sleep. Her body was frozen, not needing or even wanting anything to keep it alive. It just… was. It was her human habits that made things difficult. She did not get hungry but had the memory of hunger and so would eat in order to make it go away. It was the same with sleepiness and physical fatigue. She no longer needed to provide herself with a bed or regular meals, but she, her mind and consciousness, desired humanity. Along with these things, she also discovered her past. With each passing day, bits and pieces of memories would come to her, and eventually, she could put them together. She began to remember, slowly, who she was and what had happened to her. This included brief glimpses into her time trapped in limbo, a time that lasted more than a thousand years, floating in nothingness, a void of sorts without the influence of the years that passed. Despite learning of her past and regaining her memories gradually, she would never be the same person again. Her emotions were unpredictable, as were her actions and reactions. She knew and she didn’t know how to exist, constantly bouncing back and forth between stability and chaos.
Likes: -Heat; because her body is basically frozen, keeping warm is a vital part of her survival. You would think not needing food or sleep would mean not needing warmth as well, but the fact of the matter is, an immortal body such as hers still requires something to keep it going and that thing just so happens to be heat. Why? Because she’s a fire mage.
-Company; waking up alone in a field of death in the middle of the night isn’t exactly pleasant. Since that event, Katherine has always liked being surrounded by people whenever she can be. Otherwise… it gives her way too much time to think.
-Beaches; she’s never actually been to one, but has heard talk of them often and seen pictures of the gorgeous blue waters and white sands. She’d love to visit such a place herself one day.
Dislikes: -Anything deemed evil; a trait that stuck with her even after her time in limbo was her version of heroism. Though she is usually quite neutral, there are some things that she can’t help expressing her unease toward in whatever way she sees fit.
-Darkness; as in, lacking light. Darkness is home to the unknown, the hidden and the unpredictable. Much like limbo if you ask her.
-Loneliness; Throughout her entire life, she has had to take care of herself and wandered from city to city in search of security. But being the traveler that she is, has never been comfortable enough to stay in one place for too long. That’s the unfortunate part.
Motivations:-Moving on from her past; the more she learns/recovers, the more she is determined to live the best life she can to make up for all of her lost time.
-Vengeance for loved ones; No matter how hard she tries not to, she always gets attached to the families that host her. Anyone who does them wrong at any time is on her hit list. She would do anything to keep them safe.
-Finding a home; being a pro-wanderer isn’t exactly a fun time. Nor is it comforting. At some point, she’d like to find something or someone she can call her own.
Fears:-Unfamiliar things; seeing as she woke up in a world far more advanced than the one she was used to, new things often terrify her a bit until she comes to understand them.
-Mannequins; This fear is kind of silly, but if you really think about it… plastic, faceless, people shaped statues. They don’t move or do anything but stand there and stare into your soul…
-Heights; try and tell me a thousand foot death drop doesn’t scare you.
