As the two slowly approached their destination, a repulsive stench grew in intensity. If the knight hadn't already faced vulcans before, he would probably assume it's the smell of several thousand rotting corpses. But for better or worse, he knew what it was.
The two partners reached the location of the pond and right there, right next to it, there stood 4 of the things Aegis did not want to see to greet them.
"Why. Do I always have to. Find thiese things. Right next to the most beautiful places I know?" - whispered the knight to himself while facepalming, wondering if it's his luck or just mother Nature hating him that causes thiese events.
Following Venom's signal, Aegis lowered his posture and moved to some relatively tall nearby vegetation. It was a peaceful spot, even though there were the vulcans standing roughly 25 metres away. It really was peaceful. Until a wild elbow appeared.
"Hey, surprise attack them, it will be great." - the abrupt order came swiftly after the crippling strike. 2 hit combo!
Giving him a surprised look, Aegis couldn't help but smile. But then he thought about it. His ally had never been on a mission with him before, so he probably wanted to study the knight's fighting style, hence the sudden suggestion.
"Oh? Hehe, alright then. It's been a while since I got to spar properly. This ought to be fun."
The blue knight closed his eyes and peered into the place he was. What was transpiring there was an event, meaning that it has it's own entity. And that means it can be read.
"Recreation art: Origin Perception."
He didn't really need to speak the name aloud, but he often did, as it helps him direct his focus on the thing he's "forging", thus making recreations easier to produce.
In this case, it was not a physical existence, though. It technically wasn't even a recreation. What the knight did was perform the one spell he knew from the first day he was born, the ability to see into an object beyond just it's existence. To perceive it's entity.
Looking into an existence's entity is not the same as looking at an object. It's more like an out-of-body experience. You feel as if you're detatched from the world and you can see as if you're floating through the primordial sea of magic, observing soundlessly as the desired entity forms out of it. And somehow when one watches like so, they see a lot more than they should be capable of.
Translating what he saw into thoughts comprehensable for him, the blue knight began forming his battle plan.
Analysis initiate.
Entity name: Incomprehensible.
Names associated with it: "The God damned monkeys. Again."
Analysis of terrain and presences, initiated...
As his mind drifted through the vast information laid before it for what he felt an eternity, Aegis actually merely closed his eyes for a moment. But that moment was more than enough for him to figure out everything he needed.
With a slight smirk, the blue knight raised himself from the ground, though still keeping a low profile, and looked around.
"Ah, this would do." - he said while reaching for a fist-sized stone. Having picked it up, Aegis then looked towards the group of distastefully indiscrete apes, his entire stance screaming the words "Ready, Aim, Fire!". Having marked his target, the left-most vulcan, the knight threw the stone and immediately dropped on one knee, hiding behind the thick bush, though it still didn't seem like he trully intended to hide.
"One."
The sound of a blunt impact.
"Two."
Some angry roaring.
"Three!"
The sound of another blunt impact, or to be more precise, the sound of a fist hitting a primate's face.
It trully was fortunate that his enemies were vulcans, for if they were people making one of them think he was just hit by the other one would have been much harder. They probaly wouldn't immediately punch back without thinking, either.
As Aegis spoke the word signifying his start, he instantly broke into a sprint towards a relatively small and tilted tree, roughly 12 metres away. He kept his body low as he did so, making him seem less like a man and more like a cyan ribbon flying alongside the winds.
Having passed 9 metres without that much discretion, the fact he still wasn't spotted was proof that vulcans really were easy to manipulate, considering two of them were still smacking eachother around while the others sat there disinterested and watched, utterly oblivious to the knight's intentions.
11 metres passed, Aegis' dash was clearly not going to be noticed. He used his momentum to slide under a fallen trunk, then raised himself and leaped towards the tilted tree. With two light steps he reached the desirable height and used his foot as a break, instantly halting his movement and turning around. Shifting the direction of his momentum, he jumped off from the slanted plant and grabbed a branch, using it as a swinging pole to reach another. From that point on he just hopped from branch to branch until he reached the place he was aiming for, the tree whose crown leaned menacingly above the group of unsuspecting vulcans.
Aegis quietly traversed the obstacles as he made his way towards a particular branch which stroke his fancy as it seemed like a perfect possition to initiate a surprise attack. Who would have thought that that exact one would actually turn out to be the only rotten branch in the whole tree?
Standing ready to pounce, the knight's concentration was suddenly broken by a rather disturbing sound. Crack. Crack crack.
"Oh you have got to be kidding me."
Snap!
"WHY ARE YOU NOT KIDDING ME?!?"
A brilliant terrain traversal ending with a magnificient plummet towards a few smelly monkeys? Yeah, I'd be kind of mad too.
As the knight began to fall he noticed how the vulcans were standing right below, apparantly preparing to "greet" their guest. Not something he wanted to experience.
Seeing no other way out, Aegis visualised the blueprint of a technique which proved itself a lifesaver many times before, Layline Traversal. The technique was initiated by him, temporarely giving Aegis the ability to see the laylines in the world around him, thus allowing him to link himself to one and trace it, essentialy rapidly traversing the empty space it passed through. In this case, the layline he chose passed between two of the enemies and ended a couple of metres behind them on ground level. In other words, a conveniently perfect one.
Suddenly appearing behind them with a trail of blue light, Aegis stood up and dusted himself while sighing.
"I guess surprise attacks aren't really my forte. I don't really like them and it seems the feeling's mutual."
Turning back to face the hostiles, the knight shrugged and then smirked. "Oh well, can't be helped. I guess I'll have it my way."
He wasn't really complaning, though. He would have probably chosen to fight them head-on anyway.
