This is due to the fact that she had been neglected by her parents and verbally and emotionally abused by her uncle while growing up, so she has never really learned how to socialize with anyone, and tends to awkwardly stutter when she speaks. Despite this, Sassi is an intelligent girl, especially so when it comes to lies. This stems from an innate bit of insight that Sassi has always had for reading dishonesty and shady intentions. It causes her to be distrustful of people, and due to the fact that the only people she's ever been with were nothing short of mean and self-centered, she hasn't been given any reason to think differently, although deep down inside she does want to give everyone a chance. Sassi does become a lot more sociable, and even excited, when she sees an animal, especially cats and foxes. Because of this, while Sassi still has very much a capacity for companionship and maintains an empathy towards others, she still keeps herself 'hidden' in her shell, and won't easily come out. Sassi doesn't get angry easily, and rarely loses her temper, although she does have one. If it goes off, you'll see a much darker side to Sassi that she almost never shows in public. She will never try to hurt anyone, and hates getting angry, which is why she not only tries to avoid speaking to people, but even tries to avoid fights. Being as shy and quiet as she is, Sassi doesn't like large crowds, and tends to hang out in alleyways when she is in a city, although she will come out if she needs to buy food. Now, if someone were kind, honest and caring enough, they might just be able to get her out of her shell. If Sassi really does find someone like that in her travels, then they will have a friend for life.
