The letter mage grimaced as she slowly made her way into the guild hall building. It had been a tiring job, taking care of the rampaging kitsune. Even with the help of Lilium Santiais in exorcising whatever corruptive being resided within the wretched creature, holding mental control over so powerful an entity had taken a lot out of her. Throughout the journey home, Hoshi, the tabby exceed that currently fluttered nervously around her at the moment had fussed over her state enough already, and in a way, it only served to further Sorano’s exhaustion. All she wanted now was to have a nice warm shower and to collapse in her bed. After all, even someone who possessed no emotions too could relish the relaxation of a bodily cleansing and good night’s beauty rest.

However, upon entering the guild hall, it seemed that it would not be the case. Pushing over the ancient wooden doors with a heavy sigh, the teenager would be met with the sight of Althea, juice box in hand (already the guild vault was groaning with the cost of all those crates of juice boxes – the guild master was starting to regret giving the girl a prize of unlimited free drinks), as well as an unfamiliar aura. While there were often clients that stopped by to seek out a mage for some particular task, mages themselves rarely came in unless they were looking for work – in other words, looking to join the guild. It also meant that there would be a while to wait before Sorano would be able to get that relaxing warm shower, for work always came first.

A small sigh escape the girl’s mouth, and she moved over to where Althea and the stranger were chatting. Looking to be around Rina’s age, the woman looked fairly confident, though her aura betrayed her nervous excitement at being in the guild. Definitely an emotion the letter mage had not sensed within the confines of guild territories in a while – this one likely did not know about Fairy Tail’s darker side yet. They’d have to treat her gently for now. “Hello, Miss Althea, and hello to you as well.” Dipping her head courteously to the newcomer and guildmate alike, her exceed companion would offer a small wave as well. “Is this someone looking to join the guild?”

Honestly, although Sorano knew that after attaining Wizard Saint status her fame had risen up to rather unbelievable levels, she had yet to see its effect often in real life. A large number of her jobs took the letter mage away from more civilized areas, and as a result, people were less prone to recognize her and her status. Even in Magnolia, the citizens all knew her fairly well and were accustomed to her presence. Only the occasional tourist would pause to gawk at the teenager every once in a while, when Sorano finally found time to take a walk or grab some food outside the guild. Paperwork filled up a mind-boggling amount of her job as guild master, unlike what one might imagine. It wasn’t always the awe-inspiring feats that non-mages expected.

So, when Nessa’s entire emotional state shifted at the letter mage’s arrival, her posture stiffening and head bobbing quickly to Sorano’s words, the letter mage momentarily paused in faint surprise. However, Althea’s bright greeting brought her attention to the energetic girl, returning her greeting politely. Although they were both of the same age, the mages’ demeanors were drastically different – Sorano’s cold lack of emotion in contrast with Althea’s constant energy and cheerful personality could easily be seen in their interaction. Remaining true to nature, the guild master would turn back to the newcomer, watching as her head bent down in a sudden bow, introducing herself in a way that portrayed almost uncharacteristic formality. Unfortunately, while Nessa may have skillfully attempted to shield her emotions, the letter mage’s auric gaze easily picked out the swirling anxiety beneath her calm mask, analyzing the girl casually.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Miss Lux.” It was a name that rang a familiar bell to her, but not one that caused Sorano to drastically change her opinion on the figure. Associations were important in political situations, but at the moment, the guild had no need to forge any connections. They were steady enough in their independent path, and the alliance with Black Rose had eased the Council’s tensions a bit.

Unlike some prior hopeful members, this one was particularly zealous in her introduction, explaining her abilities fervently to the guild master. It certainly showed dedication, and the guild master would quickly hold up a finger. “Wait a second while I get some materials.”

Leaving to pick up some writing utensils and the guild stamp from the desk, Sorano would return to find Nessa already conversing with Althea. That was good – although Fairy Tail was made up of mercenaries, connections between members were always welcome. “Alright, Miss Lux. The process is probably simpler than you think. This guild is but a workplace and creator of connections for independent mercenaries, so getting in requires only a simple interview. Please explain to me verbally in as many or few words as you wish, what your purpose is for joining, and whether you would ever cause harm to members or guild property in any form without explicit permission.” The second question might seem awfully obvious, but very necessary for reasons that would be seen later.

Listening to Nessa’s responses, she nodded slowly. Although her aura continued to be shaky with nerves, her emotions didn’t display any sign of the typical guilt and awkwardness that came with lying. It was likely that Nessa truly was just your typical legal-oriented mage looking to make a place for herself in the industry. Although it was unlikely that the girl would ever truly fit in with the core of Fairy Tail with her current mindset, it wasn’t going to cause any huge problems for the guild itself. She nodded quietly, placing a period at the end of her final sentence, then looked up as Haru’s familiar voice came into earshot. Being an often-seen presence around the guild, Sorano had eventually gotten used to the older teen’s antics. While their personalities (or rather, Sorano’s lack of one) often clashed, as well as their morals and priorities, he was still a guild member and someone the letter mage had to put up with.

Greeting him with a polite nod, she listened through his chatter, hoping to be able to just get the process over with quickly. After the previous awkward interactions with Haru, she’d rather avoid any other opportunities for conflict. Perhaps it wasn’t the greatest idea as a good guild master, but such a tactic was certainly the most logical for a character as the emotionless youth. “Good luck with the move, feel free to ask if you need any particular help.” Contributing the bare minimum of polite conversation, Sorano pulled the stamp from her side, revealing the old block of unidentifiable material.

The question of stamp location would be posed to the woman, and the stamp would be applied to her leg where indicated. Sorano traced a circle of runes around the edge of the object, watching as a magic circle lit up below the familiar shape that had held a place in Fiore all these years. When applied, an odd tingling sensation would shoot through Nessa’s body, allowing her access to some of Fairy Tail’s resources. An outline would be left behind on her skin, marking the girl as an intern member of the mercenary guild. Unfortunately, it was impractical to trust someone like Nessa with full access to the guild, illegal supplies and all. However, the blobs of light that shimmered around would transform into small fairies, fluttering around and helping the guild operate smoothly at the reception desk and even sometimes carrying lighter meals and drinks to customers at the bar.

“Welcome to the guild, Nessa.”
