Job Location: East Forest
Job Description: You’ve received word that the robed figure was identified as a hermit who lives in the East Forest, and are sent there to investigate. If your character is known for not having detective skills, it is suggested that you bring someone who does. In the forest you discover a hut of sorts. Inside it looks like any other hermit hut, but you know it isn’t. You need to look for any clues, hints, or evidence that might help you discover exactly who this man was, as well as what he was a part of.
Hut description: Looking from outside the hut you see what appears to be a flower bed against the wall that is filled with weeds, and other overgrowth. There is some damage on the structure as well that hasn’t been fixed, including small holes in the roof. There’s a well with moss overgrowing, though the well itself seems to be fully functional. All in all it seems as if it hasn’t been used for a while. At least, it would if it weren’t for the door. Opening it you find that it’s been used frequently, and inside you see pots where the rain would fall in.
There is enough room to move around in, with few furniture. There is a thin bookshelf, a small bed, a small desk with no chair, a chest, and curtains blocking the windows both outside the hut and inside. The material of the house is not very strong, and appears to be outdated. Outside weather has damaged much. Most of the books in the bookshelf have been damaged, as well as all the notes on the desk.- Clues:
- Spell tome (Easy to find Clue): There is one book that is slightly damaged but you are able to make out the cover and it’s title, somewhat. The color of it, although dulled from weather, appears to have been some shade of purple with silver designs. You can see some of the letters and although you can’t make it out, it is clear that this book is related to magic.
Ingredients (Difficult to find Clue): In the chest, on the desk, and completely surrounding the hut itself whether in the flower bed or forest around, there are many different ingredients used for alchemy. Some easily known, some ordinary items, and some rarely known used for alchemy. If the wizard is an expert in alchemy, or at least the knowledge, it is possible for them to determine that most of the ingredients are used for paralysis or sleep. If the wizard is extremely knowledgeable in alchemy, then they’ll know that some of the ingredients are key to creating a memory erase potion.
Pink Slip (Difficult to find Clue): Buried and covered in the many ruined papers on the desk, lies one piece of paper that perhaps had more durability than the others. It states that the man is terminated from something, effective immediately. The reason appears to be downsizing. A curse word is written over the entire thing, showing that the man was enraged upon this notice. Whether it was from a job or a guild he was terminated from is unclear.
Dark Poem (Hard to find Clue): If the wizard is skilled enough, or lucky enough depending, they’ll discover a section of the floor that seems a bit… Too stable for the hut. There is a way to open up the secret compartment, revealing what appears to be a key as well as a poem. The poem reads:
Fate guides the willing, and drags the unwilling
Today I hear the bells, the sound clear as they ring
How could I be unwilling? With the life I’ve lived?
Hated and scorned. The tears I’ve shed.
Drawn to a new family, only to find nothing.
No one to hurt or leave. No one to sting.
I walk willingly with fate, with no regrets.
There is also a rather solemn tune written on the back of the poem.
Eventually, if your character is skilled or lucky enough, you discover that there is something off with the well. If the poem is read in front of the well, certain stones will glow different colors. Touching one emits a sound of different pitch than the others. If the tune on the poem is played, the well activates on it’s own, the water draining and the bottom of the well opening up, the rope being pulled up by mechanic systems.
After being lowered down you see a doorway that opens into an underground room with dimly lit crystals. Besides a fresh cult robe, There is a single chest in the room with a lock on it. The chest and lock are indestructible. Once the lock is removed you find inside the chest four items: Two books, and a key. One book is the man’s journal, explaining how he tried to get a job and family as a wizard, but his magic was rather weak and pathetic and thus he was shunned by everyone. It then explains how a cultist found him and gave him hope, yet he didn’t feel a part of them either. Thus he offered to take on a suicide task and that is where his journal ends.
The book is a copy of the one you found on the man. The key’s purpose is unknown. There’s a passage in his journal that doesn’t make sense but after deciphering it, it tells you the location of the cultist’s place of residence, explaining how the entrance is near spooky woods.
Enemies:
Weak: The lock is a normal lock. Rather easy to pick the lock.
Normal: There are two key slots on the lock, and both have to be picked for the lock to open.
Strong: The lock is a complex puzzle, forcing even the smarter wizards and thieves to take their time in order to figure it out fully. This process takes at least one full post to solve.
Reward: 10,000 Jewel. x1 Cult robe/hood per participant, not armor, rp specific.
Unlocks the quest Infiltrating the Temple
Oras sat in his chair in the corner of the room. Silent. Deep in thought and concern. He knew this was going to occur soon, but the timing was rather dangerous. Amora had lost control yet again recently, this time more so than before. She would have attacked Oras, and anyone else really, if he hadn't kept her under control. She needed to learn how to control her silver fire and power. If she could do that he would be less concerned, but.. He moved his hand and pressed it against his mouth in thought. While he wanted to avoid the loss of innocent life, he was really concerned about what the authorities would do if Amora lost control and lashed out at civilians. If she was ever labeled a dark wizard due to an accident, or something she could not yet fully control, then he would need to keep her hidden and protected. Unfortunately he wasn't going to be able to hide her forever. He may have to find a guild who would be willing to take him in and help him protect her if need be... He looked at his apprentice, who was still sleeping, and sighed as he put the letter down. He needed to find a solution, and quickly. Especially with what was about to come..
It had taken long enough, but Oras had finally received a message from the guards in Beanstalk Village about the Cultists. They had given the objects he took from the wizard that Oras and Amora had defeated to a fellow wizard of theirs. He had taken much time to try and decipher it but with not much luck. What he did figure out however, with the help of Oras and his interrogations, was that there was a cultist living in the East Forest. Very close to Magnolia Town. It barred the need of investigation, and Oras had no doubt in his mind that this investigation would lead them closer to the cultist organization, as well as the dangers it posed. He rose from the chair and began to get his things. Sliding his knives into the bags he carried, sliding the two daggers into his sleeve slots for use. When he saw Amora stir he would walk over and kneel beside her. "Amora? It's morning, we should go ahead and get up ok?" He would wait until she had woken up before standing up and walking over to retrieve his mask.
