Die A Hero, Or Live Long Enough To See Yourself Become The Villain

Pitter patter, the shingles and storm drains sounded above at the increasing tap of rainfall. The drops came down from the clouds and rolled off corners of the rooftops to plop down against her hood and drip off the edge of the cloth where it ran. The weather was miserable but hardly uncomfortable in a comparison to the conditions back home on the mountain. Plus, Famine was with good company on this task. “Here,” she said shielding a photograph with her hand and placing it in Ahote’s grip before tugging up his hood off his shoulders so to keep the rain from falling on his head before walking onwards down the strip of sidewalk to their location

Famine tried to ignore how her stomach grumbled when she walked past a bakery with Ahote. Things were difficult on the mountain. The villagers were becoming increasingly more difficult, and there was less food available to tax from them than ever. She swallowed, refusing to salivate at the scent of sweet bread.

Back on Mt. Hakobe, the guild was ironically enduring a time of famine. Along with their chronic financial struggle came the loss of members. A drop in incoming funds followed. Fewer members meant fewer jobs would be done after all. Basilisk Fang was her home, albeit a cold one with an almost always heavy mood. Everyone seemed to house themselves in that could fortress and along with shelter Famine made sure they had medicine, food, water available for them. Now, keeping true to this was harder than ever. They could always result back to petty thievery… but that was something Famine would save for after this particular mission.

“You see that man in that picture, Ahote?” Famine muttered up his shoulder, marveling a moment how he stood subtly taller than herself now. “His name is  Aemon Trahaear. They are an unaffiliated mage.” Famine began. “And I’m going to find them and convince them their work is better done with us.” She explained. They were down on numbers. Famine needed to gather more pieces on the chess table of she hoped to endure the consequences of losing such a handful. Loose lips sink ships after all and she had little faith that the secrecy of the guild was any of their concern now. Just like Kanix Laspor. Everyone to abandon the crest or commit any form of treason towards Basilisk Fang would be killed on sight

So to lure out her target Famine had left an anonymous job in Talonia, which requested Aemon by name-- only his name. There was no other description held. Maybe curiosity would take the particular mage to their location despite how ominous the paper was. Famine stopped and shouldered the door of a pub open, gesturing Ahote to step ahead of her before walking inside
The job didn’t say much, just that Aemon would have to come to the pub to meet the client, and in this case Ahote as well who she’d brought along for the experience and because she feared to leave him at the guild without as many eyes to look out for him-- Even though he was capable at his age to take care of himself.

Post by Ahote 21st December 2017, 1:48 pm

Today had been a remarkably special day for the growing boy, as he had been visiting Talonia Town with his mother, Famine. But to no surprise, it was not for entertainment or relaxation purposes, but for guild business. It was only to be expected after recent events: Mt. Hakobe’s worsening famine, the sudden dismissal of several Basilisks, Ahote’s series of first murders. But despite the unusually heavy atmosphere the mountain had had lately, he was eager to accompany Famine on this task.

Ahote felt his black hood be pulled over his moistened form, stalking on next to his mother through Talonia’s rains, small pellets of water rolling off of the cloth and onto his pale, white hands, splitting on impact while other drops would splash onto the stone path in which they prowled. Tucked tightly between his fleshed digits was a photo of their supposed client. In seeing this man, Ahote felt his chest grow tight and his heartbeat quicken. What was this excitement that made him so eager to greet this man? Was it a desire to explore towns and others that infested deep within him since a young age, held as delighted captive in that fortress, on that mountain? Was it the joy of being able to support his parent on these missions? Ahote did not know and did not care to find out.

With Famine’s cold words crept up his shoulder and into his ear, Ahote turned his head to face her with his usual soft smile, ”I understand.” he mumbled back. There was little to say but much to do in regards to this challenge. The boy did not know the first thing about recruitment, deciding to take this as a learning experience. It was his duty to learn from this, to become useful.

Through the quick strides he and his mother took, the boy had taken the time to notice the little things of Talonia. Through scattered puddles of rainwater, the unfamiliar twinkle of the street and building lights beckoned his attention. The busying chitchat that filled the air, bustling groups of women dashing in and out of clothing shops, older men enjoying fine cigars. The busy city was an extreme opposite from the desolate mountain he was so used to, and he did not mind that.

Soon enough, the pair arrived at the pub, Famine holding the door open for him to enter, which he did. Silently, he sat in the nearest seat, a stool with a cotton cushion. Ahote could feel the moisture in his pants drip into the dry, cold cotton, leaving him feeling uncomfortable. He raised his head to look at Famine with curious, topaz hues, ”So this is where he’s coming, huh? Quiet. . .” He mumbled, twisting his head around his neck to review the room.

    - Aemon

    " "
Aemon made long strides as he traversed the near empty streets of Talonia returning from his most recent job. By no means was this town is home nor was any place in Fiore or the world of Earthland for that matter but compared to any other location this was a place he found himself returning to more often than anywhere else. Aside from the fact there were no guilds occupying the town to bother him with either taking their jobs from the job board or attempting to sell im a pitch to join their guild, he just  wanted to work and then go his own way which this town allowed among most others. He entered the bar that housed the board where jobs were posted and proceeded to walk right past it to take a seat at the bar. "What will you be havin pal?" the bar keep asked not lifting his eyes from the glass he was drying off with a rag "Wow so professional, whats the occasion?" he couldn't help but tease how little the barkeep was paying attention, "Ahh Aemon done the job already?" Aemon smirked as his initial response "Of course, just had to take care of a bunch of rambunctious monsters was all.". The bar keep looked at the white haired man and shook his head, " I read about the situation, for  you freaks of natures its a walk in the park but none of us would have gotten though without a scratch like you. His Red shroud had some wear and tear on it from the most recent mission but aside from that his outfit in the form of black body armor, matching pants connected to his boots. "Without a scratch you say?" he poked his finger through a hole in the shoulder of his shroud "What would you call that?" The keep scoffed, "i'd call that luckier than us you smartass." Aemon would simply shrug. I'll take the usual." the barkeep reached down into the pocket of his apron and slid it over to Aemon, “You might want to read this before I start cooking.” Emerald eyes drifted down to the flyer held out in front of him and then back up at the man holding it, "huh, i don’t usually get mail. What is it?" he asked as he reached out to take it. “Not much detail, just a job that specifically asked for you.” He opened up the paper folded into fours and read it’s contents. His eyes traced the words from left to right going down the page. “Should I heat up the usual?” The keep would ask but Aemon’s action spoke louder than any words he could have said. He stood up from his stool and exited the bar.

The bar where the client was located wasn’t too far from this bar so the walk would be short enough to make it not a bother. Once outside and on the mainroad he was greeted by the rain. While the water droplets landed on him, bouncing off his hair while other droplets were soaked up by the red shroud he wore over his upper body the parts of his outfit that was damaged from the previous job slowly mended itself as he journeyed across town to meet this client at the bar. He stopped outside the bar and looked up at the sign that displayed the name of the bar across it. "This is the place, now time to meet this mysterious client." he said to himself as he started to through the door, “Are you sure this is a good idea?” Ddraig chimed in at last. "Why wouldn’t be, it's just a simple job after all isn’t it?" Aemon thought back for the dragon inside him to hear, “You rarely get mail and the fact that someone called you out specifically is rather odd.” Aemon chuckled, "I agree but instead of sitting around and wondering what the writer’s intent is we can find out for ourselves." he said in pure confidence but Ddraig was a bit more cautious, “and if their reasons are against you?” a smirk graced his lips, "Then we handle it." he said ending the connection and taking a table in the back facing the door watching and waiting for the client to approach him.

Die A Hero, Or Live Long Enough To See Yourself Become The Villain

“Hardly,” Famine chuckled back to the boy when referring to the pub Back home...that was somewhere quiet. A bar was a place for laughter, company, forgetting things, and making mistakes. And as she expected this time of evening people were just starting to head in and get out of the rain. Why, when taking her son along, would she elect to meet her client in ain a pub? Well- the mage needed a crowded room, a wave of bodies to escape into should she be recognized or put in a place where she and Ahote needed to flee.

The bar was tens to a hundred conversations told in loud voices, all of them competing with the music that rang out of the jukebox. Famine glanced over her bench at the table, skimming for the familiar face somewhere, anywhere. The crowd was young, students from a university, and independent mages who had since settled here in Talonia.

--And if she was recognized, It would just be an honest drunk’s mistake. Famine lifted her palm and gazed at the silver ring on her index finger, and the gem gleamed when her eyes focused on it. Narrow blues changed to bright rubies, a dark cowl to a school smock some of the other university students from the area wore, and a raggedy brunette bob and braid extended into straight raven locks.

Famine knew Ahote must be confused at the abrupt shapeshifting, and everyone in the bar was either too busy, not paying attention to another mage trick, or drunk to make sense of it.

“I’ve got a little bit of a reputation that follows me. I can’t let that risk my job today.  Ahote, you and I-- we are going to be new people, just for a little while. I don’t want to scare away our new friend away. My name is now Maria, I’m a student from one of the nearby… schools for the non magically inclined. You are my little brother Leon. We are going to ask Aemon to demonstrate his skills by taking care of a problem of mine.” Famine explained, tasting the pitch of her new and higher voice. She gave him a little tassle of his hair, to let him know his mother was still behind those brand new eyes.

Now, feeling a little taller in her seat than she may have been before she looked around the room again, the crowds, the bar at the front and than another table-- just as a familiar looking individual was sitting down. Ameon.  “See Ahote? Over there.” Famine jostled him in the shoulder lightly where the light haired subject sat in the end of the room. “Can you wave him down and bring him back here to talk?” Famine asked of him over the jukebox and clattering of glass. If anyone was capable of squeezing through a little crowd of warm bodies without getting much attention it was a kid. “And if anyone asks, Remember the story I told you-- Leon.

Ahote was not used to such activity in one place alone. The desolate, silent corridors of Basilisk Fang was home to him. The usual cracks in the wall he had grown so familiar with, the dust that coated the stone floors, the dry, cold air bestowed by Mt. Hakobe's everlasting winter. It was all a sanctuary to him, so being in such a bustling town left him feeling so very alien. Never had he felt so self conscious.

Ahote looked down into his lap, twiddling his fingers together nervously. It was not only that chatty drunks or cheeky women that left him feeling so open, but the fact that his mother was also watching. He wasn't necessarily expecting to prove anything to her today, or expected to be doing anything at al besides observing, but never had he felt so strangely naked. He quickly settled into the busy pub, regardless. The music pounding from jukeboxes, the men and women who tried to compete with its volume with their own typical conversations. It all became like music to the boy's ears, hearing all but listening to none. His mind became jogged with thought as the seconds passed by.

Abruptly, his moments of peace were interrupted by the physical disappearance of his mother's familiar lean figure, pale skin and busty chest, now replaced with that of a beautiful, brown haired woman with astonishing ruby hues. Ahote's topaz ones couldn't seem to trail off of this unfamiliar body as Famine explained to him the scenario they were to portray.

With wide eyes, Ahote nodded as she spoke to him, ruffling his raven threads just a bit with the foreign hand, but with such a familiar touch, "Well, alright. You'll have to fill me in on this reputation of yours later, though. . ." he mumbled, anxiously scratching his cheek with the tip of his metal index digit, eyes darting away from that of his mother's. But his playful suggestions were directed back to the main subject at hand, their client, Aemon Trahaear, who was sitting quietly at the other side of the pub. He had beautiful chocolate skin and silver locks, but the colors of his eyes was a mystery to the boy, for at this distance he could not unravel it.

When Famine would task him with the duty of bringing him back to her, the boy instantly felt an insurmountable amount of pressure on his chest. Ahote was always anxious when conversing with guildmates, so conversing with a stranger with skills recognized by his mother was on a level he never thought would come to him so early in life. The boy's face became pale, turning over to Famine with forcibly wide eyes and a quivering smile, "Y-Yes, of course. . . one moment." Ahote sputtered, quickly ambling over to the man with a stiff figure.

Approaching him, his anxieties seemed to have been quickly overshadowed with his usual softness. It seemed as if in each step did he release more and more stress regarding the interaction. Really, the idea of it was far more nerve wracking than the actual activity, he began to realize. His small, lean body squeezed through stocky men and tall women, eventually making way over to Aemon with messy black hair and warm eyes. Simpering, he tapped the counter just next to the man's body to grab his attention, "Hey there, mister. My name's Leon, and I was wondering if we could have a quick chat? Just for a moment, if you have it?" He queried, having to speak louder than he normal did considering the loud men and women he was competing with.

    - Aemon

    " "
Aemon sat patiently at the table he had chosen for himself leaning forward slightly with his hands clasped together with his mouth pressed against them as his emerald eyes scanned the room full of people, "There aret a lot of people here." he said counting them in his head. He would set his sights on the bar keep who was speaking to one of the servers, "They aren’t the clients. If they were they would have waved me over the moment they saw me." he concluded no longer looking at them but instead closed his eyes. He didn’t want to make it seem he was looking for the client but as his eyes were shut the server approached him, “Excuse me sir can I get you something?” she asked him and in response he opened his eyes and made eye contact,"I’ll just take a cup of coffee." she wrote it down on her notepad and walked away. He would seemingly look at her as she went off to get his coffee but this was just used as a way for him to look at the man sitting at the bar reading the latest issue of Sorcerer Magazine. "Could be him but I don’t thinks so. Like the bar keep he didn’t bother me once or show any sort of recognition " that seemed to be the key factor he was basing his current findings on. "There is so many possibilities." he said to himself. “No signs of this client?” Ddraig said at the back of Aemon’s mind. Aemon let out a small sigh, "None as of yet." he responded and then added, "It’s possible they aren’t even here yet." Ddraig quickly countered, “Probably a joke.” he was ready to dismiss it the moment Aemon got the flyer. "It could be, but the off chance it isn’t could be something in it for us." he said to the dragon before setting his gaze upon a young lady and what he guessed to be was her child. She had long raven black hair with piecing red eyes with a pretty face. "Perhaps it’s her. A situation involving a child can sometimes require outside help." he looked at the young man observingly, "He looks a little old to be involved with a domestic situation." he shrugged dismissing it just as his coffee arrived. "Thank you." he said to her handing off what he owed for the drink before taking a sip of it. "ahhh. Not bad." he thought but soon his attention was away from the coffee ad was locked onto something else.

Next to him tapping on the table was the young man with messy black hair and brownish colored eyes who was next to who Aemon assumed was his mother just a moment ago. He listened as the boy introduced himself as Leon and asked if he could have a chat. "Sure kid I have a moment to speak. What do you need to speak to me about?” He said taking another sip of his coffee with a satisfying smile on his face, "Looks like someone needs to talk to me. His mother might be the sender of the flyer." Ddraig said nothing and Aemon listened to to boy as he told him what he had to say.

Die A Hero, Or Live Long Enough To See Yourself Become The Villain

Famine blinked around with new ruby eyes. Smoke twisted in its artistic way, forming curls in the gloom, illuminated only by the age-speckled bar lights. Along the wall was every hue of amber liquid in their inverted bottles; every vice that alcoholic attendants had been ordered to avoid.
The bar curved into the outer wall of the room, dark in the barely lit pub. Through the windows, the diamonds of lead panes, trickles the sallow light of street-lamps. The smell was intense of cigarette smoke, perfume that clung to clothing, skin and furniture alike.

Her eyes followed the back of Ahote’s head intensely after she took another look around, Famine knew taking him to a bar wasn’t the best mother and son outing… but he’d been wanting to experience her work, he’d asked about it countless times from the time that he was still really a child. As he grew up, and rather quickly at that she explained more and more, that her work got others hurt to protect what she loved, that she tricked people to help the status of there family, that there intelligence and what they’d endured made Basilisk Fang more entitled to anyone who ever was hurt in Famine’s wake. Today her task was simple, pull a man who tiptoed on the type rope of light and dark-- [i]as many Talonian mages who didn’t have a home yet did[i] and swindle him enough to make the pitfall into Basilisk Fang a little easier of a transition.

She just needed him to go on the job, agree to help a girl named Maria that didn’t actually exist. The were fictional aspects who's job asked for help taking care of a problem. Slaying other Talonia school children’s biggest threat; a supposed group of violent gang members. In actuality harmless. At most obnoxious frat boys that attended the mages college in the area. Famine could care less what happened to a person who didn’t have there own magical talent, they just used mages skill to make them there own workers-- like they were some upper class… Famine was all to familiar with this concept growing up poor, having to survive completing degrading chores in Magnolia.

Famine kept a careful eye on Ahote, who approached her target waiting for her son to bring him over. She connected a gaze and raised a hand slightly though to gesture them back to her. He’d have lots of questions, she’d stick to her role and be the talented actress she was.

Ahote's eyes lit up, his lips quirking up as if a great weight had been lifted from his chest. A man who ambled into the space and had immediately ordered something drink seemed busy enough to be deemed almost unapproachable, according to the growing teen's version of being occupied. But his silvery, relatively deep voice welcomed what would be a brief conversation, leaving Ahote feeling further relaxed in his presence. But he had never been good with crowds, no matter how small they were. Being soft spoken and bearing an ever softer heart, it almost seemed preposterous he was being raised into this line of work.

Ahote paused, taking long, satisfying breaths before regaining his crumbling composure and raising himself to his usual proper and erect position, arms folded anxiously behind him, toying with their fingers, "It's nothing we can discuss right at this moment as I also have someone else waiting for us. If you may. . ." he urged, voice low but audible among the booming chatter. He quickly turned and began to nervously shuffle his way through the crowd again at a hasty pace, though making sure that the hopefully trailing acquaintance would be in his sight.

The duo would arrive at the patient and eager Famine, who had hid herself in body of another, but kept her noticeably unfriendly demeanor that made her ever so iconic. Though, to Ahote, it was no more than the warmth of a Mother. Three wooden seats stood idly, surrounding the table. One of them already occupied by "Maria," and the others standing empty. Ahote quickly took the seat farthest from them both, in the middle, where he could immerse himself in the comfort of his own self and could quietly observe from the sidelines.

The raven haired youth settled, but perked up in recalling basic etiquette. Briefly, the nape of his neck became a warm cherry color before dulling into his usual paleness from his embarrassment, eyes flickering between Famine and the stranger. "Oh, where are my manners? Sir, this is my older sister, Maria. Please, a seat, if you will. . ." he would insist again.

    - Aemon

    " "
    ” “
Aemon sat straight in his seat and gave the pale skinned boy his attention. The boy had spoken to Aemon and asked if he could have a word with the mage clad in red and under the assumption that the boy and his the woman he is with have something to do with why he was sitting in this particular Inn warranted Aemon to accept, although he would have accepted regardless seeing as he was the type to do just that. However when he had spoken with the boy on what he wishes to speak about the boy had become rather getting down to the heart of the matter he was giving a response that rather annoyed him. Aemon was told that it was something that couldn’t be spoken at the table they were at but mainly because Leon had someone else he needed Aemon to meet before any real information was exchanged. As the young man urged Aemon to follow him the white haired man did so standing up from his table and followed him over to his table where the raven haired girl with piercing ruby red eyes. As he walked across the inn Ddraig began to speak to him mentally, “So what do you think is going on?” he kept a straight face while responding to the dragon, Not sure but I am starting feel like I’m hoping through hoops and getting no answers. he thought back but soon bright his attention to the lady who he was introduced to by Leon. Aemon’s eyes locked onto the woman who was now known to him as Maria and was instructed to take a seat at their table. His eyes shifted over to Leon and sighed in exasperation as he reached down and pulled out a chair to take his seat near the woman who he was introduced to. "So your brother said you wanted to speak with me." he would clasp his hands on the table down in front of him while he conversed with the woman. "am I to assume you are the person who had a job for me?" he kept the question simple but of course if she wasn’t the person who summoned him to the Inn then who exactly was she and what did she want.

Die A Hero, Or Live Long Enough To See Yourself Become The Villain

Their guest was found and seated by Ahote who Famine--Maria sat aside closely at the table across from Aemon when he arrived. She put on her best smile.

“Yes, I decided  I needed to get someones help quickly. The police are neglecting us and I’ve seen you come through this town recurrently… It wasn't hard to ask around for your name. You probably need me to explain…. Our universities a cesspool of crime at the moment. It’s been that way since a new gang made its way into our campus, our town.”
And so the deceit riddled words were exchanged

“Mages don't stick around here long to protect us… and so it has just gotten worse. With illicit activity, they’ve brought a drug pandemic, gang war and mafias to the campus.I hope you are interested in my offer, you will receive a generous reward.”
A half-truth, "The magic council has bigger problems tha,n to do anything about these non-mage criminals.” Eventually the whole lie slipped out, smooth and easy like melted butter running down toast.

She stifled back the urge to laugh and held it in her chest, barred it away like that ribcage kept her from spilling guts...Aemon would be doing plenty of the petty non-mages for her, oblivious whether they were criminal or not. Who could question a girl in need? Instead... “And I.” fake tears stung the corners of her eyes. “Just want my town back. They need to be gone.”

Aemon's….violent attack would hopefully kill many loud-mouthed school boys and would shut down the biggest non-magical education center in Fiore. This was a step towards a future where normal folks were afraid of mages for destroying their schools. Hopefully, her guild could begin to advance again in the state of civilian alarm.

Those arrogant college kids would be at their most vulnerable this Friday night...She intended to set Aemon loose very soon with his job and promised pay once it was done. “They are usually liquored up on campus around these hours. You could be done with this job tonight.” The mage suggested with pursed lips, an open palm to guide the conversation and play with the invisible puppet strings attached to every word.

Without waiting for input, Famine grabbed something off her lap, a bag. She set the satchel on the table between them. It hit the surface solid and heavy. Inside was a mechanism of gas fuses and wires. “One bomb, and you take our livelihood back from the criminals.”

It took all her sense not to crack an excited smile right there, to keep a strong poker face. If she wanted to snare this mage it was vital that they went through with this completely and that there were casualties… Famine had seen many neutral and unaffiliated mages undergo the exact same process… when the power was in a person's hands it wasn’t hard to end lives--Especially with a doe-eyed school girl lying and explaining how it’d save her family. Innocent blood stained and not even the strongest holy water could burn the guilt away from some. Sometimes a person went mad, they killed more, embraced the darkness. Famine was a stunning example of this exact concept. To repopulate her guild she would change his life forever. Eventually, he’d have no choice but to join her and the others on Mt Hakobe…

And still, she served him lie, after lie, after lie. Famine did it in such a way as if they were sitting in front of her holding out a dinner plate begging to be fed. “I trust you don’t need more information if your willing to help us, sir, the address is on our work order…. You can trust me to find you when the job is done.” she insisted, tasseling Ahote’s dark hair where he’d sat down next to her with their guest.

    ---
We talked on discord about this briefly how I will be cutting you loose to finish the recruitment at your own pace without needing to wait for Ahote or myself I will put you on an exam/job format.

To complete Aemons recruitment I expect 3 posts with a span of 300 words each or one solid mega post with 900 words

Famine show up right outside the crime scene again and reveal herself during the final stage of the recruitment once all the objectives she’d given you have  been met

May the odds be ever in your favor

    - Aemon

    " "
    ” “
Aemon wasted no time into getting down to business when he inquired if Maria was the one who sought him out for a job and she answered just as quick and went right into the explanation without Aemon asking for the details. She explained that she needed to find help outside of law enforcement due negligence in regards to what has happened and it just so happened that she had spores Aemon in town and was able to gather his name and he assumed that she also discovered he was a former guild mage that now took jobs as a freelance mage for hire. She went into further detail in a very dramatic explanation of how the university had went from a place or learning to a place that house criminal activities such as drug trafficking, gang turf wars and even the mafia. She expressed that this happening ed as a result of mages not staying in town to deter such things and that the council had bigger fish to fry than something like this. The mention of the mafia had Aemon grow slightly skeptical but it wasn’t until she heardad shed tears while weeping that made him believe in the back of his mind that he was being played like a fiddle but in so many more ways than he was even considering. She mentioned that he would be rewarded for his trouble which then was compounded with her crying and he knew he was hooked for this task. "Here wipe your tears miss." he said as he held a napkin in his hand which was stretch out for her to take. "I will admit that I find it hard to believe that the council wouldn’t be interested in the mafia but then Talonia might not be as critical as other cities." he sat back down and crossed his arms over his chest while leaning against the chair. "The job sounds easy enough and the reward we can discuss my fee then." his eyes drifted to the bomb that Maria had hidden in a bag for him to use on the building itself. He felt that such measures were unnecessary " It that won’t be necessary. A job like this is child’s play." he reaches out his hand and shakes hers "We can deal." he stood up from his seat after the negotiations were discussed and nods to the pair before turning and leaving the inn to go eliminate his targets.

Aemon waited until night fell to make his move against the targets at university. He stood outside the gates and looked up at the building that allegedly housed people who brought crime and misery. “You won’t be using my power for this will you?” Ddraig asked Aemon curious to what the red clad mage’s plan was. "Most likely not. There aren’t any mages here so much weapons should be more than enough for this." he said confidently. He could feel the vibration from a bass inside the building, "Sounds like it’s a giant party in there. " he commented trying to listen in on the song but couldn’t hear it over Ddraig speaking to him, “What is that noise?” He clearly didn’t seem to be a fan of the music they are playing. "I forget the name of the band but they are pretty famous. At least this gets to go down with a good beat." however Ddraig wasn’t about it. “Hurry up and finish the job so I can go back to sleep.” With Ddraig’s elderly episode was done Aemon finally walked up to the building opened the door and entered the educational establishment.

The song boomed through the halls as Aemon searches for his first of many targets for the day. Materializing his bow into his left hand he was ready to get to work just as he was reaching the end of the first hall a male came from around the corner and spotted him. No words would be exchanged, there were no need for them he simply took aim with his bow, pulled his bow string back creating an arrow made from his mana pool and released it into the man. The force of the arrow pinned him against the wall from where the arrow point had exited. He turned the corner and saw no other person but there was a sign above a door that said lecture hall where it sounded like was the epicenter of the party l. "This makes it easier." he approached and then opened the door to a huge lecture hall filled with students dancing to the music but too bad this would be their last dance. He drew his bow back and released it into the crowd of people skewering someone from above. Everyone turned to look at Aemon as he lifted his bow and slammed the front into the door handle breaking it off entirely. Several large male students all charged at the red mage but it would be to no avail. Before they could even touch him he released four arrows, one went to an individual’s chest dropping them to the floor. The first student to get close enough to engage him was so far out of his league throwing a right cross which Aemon easily parried and countered with a blunt stroke of his bow to the man’s face. As soon as it connected he jumped back materializing a quiver of arrows at his hip. He didn’t use one of these arrows yet, he simply used another mana arrow which pierced the man through the center of his neck. He grabbed an arrow by the shaft and pulled it out in time to impale another approaching student right in the neck between his trap and collar bone. He turned and drew another arrow and launched into one of the students right in the center of the back. He had attempted to escape through the lecture hall door that Aemon has broken the handle of, not a smart move but what was would be what happened next. The students that remained began to arm themselves with anything they could grab. Bats, silverware, pots and panda from the food table. Aemon was a skilled archer and if not for the confined space and number of people it would be a simple task to end them all but luckily for him that wasn’t all he could do. He dropped his bow which faded away and instead replaced it with his weapons of choice for close combat. In his left hand was a black butterfly style of sword with a hexagonal pattern over the blade with lines of red. It has no guard but the hilt has a small semi circular cutout where the white half of the yin yang symbol was etched onto the blade. The sword in his right hand was identical in shape and general style but the blade was pale white with the the black part of yin and yang etched on it. He spin the blades in his hand before going on the offensive right away, with both blades he thrusted them both in front of him plunging his blade into a student’s stomach. He would pull them out as he spun on a 180 degree angle while lifting his blade to block a strike from a make blunt instrument with fluid movements he sliced through the student’s arm that held the weapon severing it from his body entirely. The sword that was used to block the attack sliced downwards at a diagonal direction nearly bisecting the student. With proper footwork he was not at the table that had all the refreshments displayed on it. A daring student charged at him with a knife but instead of cutting him down he made some fun out of it and flipped the punch bowl at him covering him head to toe in punch including his eyes. Aemon threw his swords into the ground so that his hands where able to do this next part. His right hand caught the knife hand at the wrist and turned it up so the point was facing towards the attacker’s chest. With his left he guided the student so his foot would catch the blade stuck in the ground forcing him to stumble which Aemon counted on and then guided I’m to the ground making him fall on his own blade. He would grab his own blades and hurl them at the nearest students and would continue this brutal assault.

Another half an hour and Aemon would emerge from the university’s doors and walk toward the gate to leave the premises but he wouldn’t get very far as the trap had indeed been sprung on him.

    Fortune Never Favours Fools

“I’d like to report a mass homicide at the college,” maybe not the same voice, but audibly the same tone of words that had spoken to Aemon hours ago sounded in the distance.Maria was nowhere, only a woman in black.  “I see him right now; A man with a red coat and white hair.” She was speaking into a lacrima phone, no doubt with authorities on the other line.

The woman, Famine, standing at the schools gate may have been a little too far to look over clearly but Aemon would see in her hand was a small switch of some kind, the light at the top of the trigger practically blinking with anticipation, followed by the quiet telltale beeping that mimicked the pounding of hearts. “My name is Maria Thompson.” Then, her thumb slid over the button.

It became very clear between that that wasn’t her name as she tossed away the device from her ear.

She pressed the switch and a deafening sound like thunder crashed around them.
Behind the mage and in front of Famine came a pillar of fiery smoke and dust boiling up from within the school, blowing through other floors, dorms, study halls that Famine doubted were empty this time of night--

The fire lit up the darkness her hood cast over her eyes, revealing in the orange tones eyes lit up with maniacal intent. A series of new flashes broke out, blowing out glass windows and lifting the incandescent radioactive gases, and then a great gush of flame rose. The sheer rush of air blew her hood off her head and ruffled her hair, nonetheless she was still standing. Famine was in awe at her creation; the fire was fascinating. A column of pure hydrogen must have rushed up into the vacuum created by the explosion; the next blast of flame, in a lateral sheet, came at the buildings highest, and great rags of fire, changing from red to violet and back through the spectrum to red again, went soaring away to dissipate in the upper atmosphere. geysers of hot ash and molten bricks spouted upward; some of the hot debris landed amongst them-- But never striking Famine, as though some invisible bubble around her left her unscathed save for the flakes of ash that gently fluttered on the top on her hair like a grey snow.

Now, as the smoke was both settling and dissipating she looked through the opaque clouds of grey across to Aemon, she’d let him take in the situation at his own pace, but with the authorities, on their way, he was wrapped around her little finger.

    - Aemon

    " "
    ” “
Aemon began to exit the now studentless university premises and while the fact he killed so many didn’t bother him there was a thought that at the back of his head that hadn’t bothered him until he passed the threshold on the way out. Not a single one of the people he had killed tried to hurt him with the exception of the few that picked up kitchenware or broken table legs, none of which were real weapons and aside from the spiked punch he couldn’t smell anything that was drug related. A simple hit job raised so many more questions than it needed to but his answers were soon answered. Thanks to his enhanced hearing he was able to hear a voice that was recently familiar to him and the words that were spoke made the gears in his mind slowly slide into place when he heard the voice reporting to someone on a phone that a mass murder had taken place and had given the person on the line his description and when she gave the name Maria despite having a completely different appearance the gear clicked into place at the same time the explosion erupted from the building. He had been set up from the beginning. The force of the explosion forced his slicked back hair to settle in the front while his mantle pushed in front of him and he turned his head to see the building without any windows, doors and most of it’s roof blown to pieces with flames surging from inside the building. The sound of the authorities on their way to the now destroyed school and he didn’t have a way out of it. It was her word against his but her word wouldn’t be needed, the destroyed building along with the evidence destroyed by the fire would be enough to charge him. While there wasn’t much that he could do to prevent any of that now as for the authorities he could handle them with his actual magic after all they would most likely not be mages in any capacity however before that there was the little bone to pick with this Maria person. His gaze fell upon her with such ferocity that if looks could kill she would be erased from existence. "So Maria this whole thing was a set up from the start?" he nearly sneered the words as he spoke. "But then again I doubt Maria is your real name so let's cut to the chase. Who are you and what do you want with me?" the question was simple and he had to fight every urge to use his magic. If he destroyed her then there would be no answers given and thus he took a deep breath and nodded towards the school, "Tell me were these people as bad as you claimed or was that false as well?"
