A New Beginning (Newbie Introduction)

After over an hour of wandering, Sayuri had finally reached the glittering building in the center of the ship. Not that she had had any trouble finding it, of course. The central location made that easy. No, the delay had simply been because it was impossible not to stop and stare along the way. The sights on this ship were truly astounding, and she knew how lucky she was to even be here.

Sayuri had been a member of a guild before, but it was a small one, not even worth mentioning. No one would recognize the name anyway. But that experience had ended badly, and it had soured her opinion on guilds. At the time, she'd thought she would never join another one. But the more she heard about Crystal Swan, the more intrigued she had been. She couldn't help it. She was a curious person, and ever since she'd left the confines of her parents' stuffy home, her goal had been to travel the world. But after over a year of working menial jobs for jewels and hiking from place to place, she'd barely seen anything. Her days were filled with boredom, and more than anything, she longed for adventure.

And when she's heard the magical ship was going to stop near where she'd been staying for the past few weeks, she just couldn't help herself. She'd given her notice for the job she'd been working, and once the ship finally arrived she came straight here. And now, standing in front of the guild hall, she knew she'd made the right choice.

She made her way across one of the bridges that led to the guild hall, realizing that she was suddenly nervous. Not surprising, considering her history. And her social anxiety. She made her way through the doors, hovering near the door for a long moment as she scanned the room. So, who to talk to...

Her mind was made up as her eyes wandered over to the bar. In her experience with guilds, the bartenders tended to know a lot about the guild. That was as good a place as any to start. She crossed the room, moving with purpose now that she had finally committed. She made a beeline straight to the figure standing behind the bar, leaning on the counter as she flashed them a smile, hoping her nerves didn't show.

"Hello. I'm Sayuri, and I'd like to join your guild."

It took Sayuri a long minute to process what had just happened. So... Apparently the guy who had been behind the bar wasn't the bartender. Weird, and probably a bad idea, but she supposed it wasn't really her problem, so she decided not to worry about it. She turned her attention to the one who was now on her side of the bar.

"Well..."

She trailed off for a moment, her nerves returning now that she'd lost her earlier momentum, but she managed to push through it.

"I... Want to travel. And help people. You know... That sort of thing."

well that hadn't come out awkwardly at all. She sighed inwardly, wishing for about the thousandth time that she actually had some social skills. She probably sounded like a bumbling idiot right about now.

Sayuri smiled slightly. At least she wasn't the only one feeling out of place.

"Here, if you would."

She indicated the spot she wanted the guildmark, on her upper left chest, right below her collarbone. Not quite over her heart, which in her mind was too low down to feel comfortable showing, but close enough. In her mind guildmarks should be displayed proudly, in an obvious location. Why bother to get a guildmark in the first place if you were just going to hide it?

She leaned against the bar, smiling at the man who'd been so helpful so far.

"Would you mind if I asked you to give me a newbie tour of sorts? You know, seeing as how I'm new here and all."

And it would give her a chance to get to know him a little better. Being as shy as she was, it was hard for her to initiate social interactions. So now that she was in the middle of one, she may as well take full advantage of it. Life here would be a lot easier if she had at least a couple of friends.
