Althea looked around the rubble of Hargeon, climbing over the large rocks that were previously part of buildings.  She hadn’t realized the tentacle attack caused such extensive damage to the town and couldn’t help but wonder if all its residents evacuated safely.  But, the wizard didn’t really dwell on that matter, focusing her attention to the parts of Hargeon that were still standing, speeding up her pace a bit by jumping over rocks instead of climbing over them.  Her speed didn’t falter, agily moving through the ruined land.  Soon, Althea found herself in front of a rather large manor, sustaining a bit of damages but much more well off than the majority of the port town.  It’s elegant silver gates had been bluntly pulled apart, offering a large enough opening for Althea to simply step into the large yard.

Rocks ranging from small pebbles to man-sized boulders littered the lawn, a busted water fountain situated in the middle of it all.  It didn’t seem to be in working condition, but were still able to hint at the former grandeur of the yard.  Moving with a light jog, Althea made her way towards the manor, treading lightly across the land.  Eventually Althea had ventured across the lawn that ended up being to large for any practical purposes.  And sitting on the porch was an aged man holding a rifle, although it was clearly made more for displays, not real shooting.  “Young lady,” He began, stepping off the porch onto the lawn.  “What business do you have here?”  Rifle raised, they showed that they meant business.  “If you’re here to steal from me like those other hooligans, you’re gravely mistaken.”

Before the house owner could do anything to rash, Althea spoke up, “Actually, I’m here to get that item back for you.”  Approaching the manor’s owner, she reached into her pockets displaying the job request to him.  Promptly, they lowered their arms, rifle held apprehensively at his side.  “Alright then, head over to the ol’ hole the tentacles came from.  My item’s in there.”  Slightly surprised, Althea put the job request away.  It was a bit odd that thieves would go to somewhere like that, but it could help with keeping curious villagers away.  Nodding mostly to herself, the young girl grinned widely to the man.  “Okay, I’ll just go there and get it back for you then!”

"Sigh" truly, it had been as bad as he had feared. Johann disappointedly stepped through the rubble of this district of Hargeon, small pieces of stone and dirt crunching under his feet with each step. He, supervising elements of the West Fiore Trading Company, had been contracted to deliver materials and personnel for the very much necessary repairs to the damaged portions of the city, and thus he had come out to Hargeon himself to inspect the damage. Or at least that was the excuse he had used. It was the same old drill, some dark mage or giant monster would devastate a city, and the West Fiore Trading Company would handle the materials needed for the rebuilding. As one of the three Vice Presidents he, naturally, held a certain degree of authority within the large organisation that had come to control the Divide Islands, and for some reason, he silently cursed Ruvel and Cirven, everyone came to him with all the paperwork. Day-in, day-out, they would hand him sheets, forms and letters that needed to be signed, read or stamped. He had spent so much time in his office, in fact, kept company only by his friend and companion Artorias, that he had at times forgotten, much to his displeasure, to eat. And Johann, as a man who appreciated a good meal, needed some fresh air badly, which is why he had quietly stolen away from his offices at the Headquarters of the West Fiore Trading Company to the job board, taken the next best flyer off it and hastily stuffed it in his pocket before making for the harbor, dragging along a mildly confused Artorias, leaving Alisha a message on his desk. He would have to inspect the deliveries and make sure that everything was in order.

She wouldn't be happy, and neither would be Sol, the two would have to deal with the paperwork while he wasn't there, but that he was willing to accept for just a little time off.

And this flyer here was his way to do just that. Taking a look at the slightly crumpled piece of paper in his hands he was now walking down the streets of Hargeon, followed by the somewhat puzzled storm mage. "And we will visit this address to ... ?", the falcon asked with an inquisitive tone,"Retrieve a stolen item, Artorias" "Why does that require our attention, my lord ? I thought we had urgent matters to-" "That can wait, friend. Helping the people of Hargeon is our top priority" ... "and a nice change of scenery can't be wrong either". The falcon, as if he had heard the last part of Johann's comment tilted his head to the side a little, staring at his master, one brow raised "Of course, my lord".

A short walk across piles of stacked rubble and past ruined buildings, they finally arrived at the address given in the job description, the two men seeing that this building and the surrounding area, too, despite seemingly having gotten off lightly in the chaos that had gripped Hargeon, had been trashed. Various stone and metalwork all around the elaborate mansion had been destroyed, rocks of varying sizes scattered across the once green front lawn, and on the porch, a man gripping tightly his weapon, understandably so after what he had witnessed, beside him a short, blonde girl. "Another mage, perhaps ?" the Vice President suppressed a short shrug, walking along the graveled path towards the house. "Good day, Sir, Miss", Johann stopped, giving both the girl and the man a short bow, Artorias doing the same in synch with his master. "May I introduce myself ? Johann von Weiss, Vice President of the West Fiore Trading Company, my advisor Artorias von Weiss" pointing at the peregrine falcon's human form beside him "I have gotten word that you have lost one of your personal belongings, and have come to retrieve it for you, I do hope you haven't already made an arrangement regarding that ?" his head going from the man to the girl "Or even better, if you have, I do hope you still have room for two more ? Don't worry about a reward, either. Me and my friend here have no need for such a thing" smiling with friendly expression, hands behind his back.

Notes: Sorry this took a while, studying for an exam.
Althea turned at the sound of footsteps moving across the lawn, half expecting for it to be the people who stole the mansion owner’s item.  Maybe they wanted more from the place?  It would be pretty convenient for Althea if it was them, she could just beat them up and take the item back.  But then it occured to to that they may not have it on them, but there was no need to think too much on the subject.  The footsteps only belonged to two men, although each was carrying a sword around- something which was far from ordinary for any sort of citizen.  And Althea wasn’t even sure if both of them were human at all, getting a completely different scent from one of them.  Was it a pigeon?  No, the smell was similar in a sense, but at the same time very different.  But, the girl ended up simply blowing it off after sensing magical power that exceeded hers from the duo, reckong that they most likely had their reasons.  Still, that didn’t stop her from wearing an openly puzzled expression.  As they introduced themselves, she actually paid attention to what was being spoken.  Usually, she would simply disregard things that didn’t really intrest her, only half listening to something.  But during this case it was only expected for her to be attentive.  After all, Althea was rather curious about who exactly they were, especially after it was revealed they came for the same job as her.

“Of course you can go, I want my stolen item back as soon and easily as possible.”  This was most likely a subtle hint that this task wouldn’t be too easy, if it was they would’ve gotten some D-ranks to do it.  But, Althea just took it as it was on the surface.  “But, I’ll be paying both of you whether you want money or not.  And if refuse it, I’ll just crane it down your throats, got it?”  Although their way of speaking was not the most refined, the owner of the mansion still had plenty of pride, even with their broken-down home.  Not waiting for an answer, as their question was a rhetorical one, they turned back into their ruined manor.  Watching the armed person disappear into their home, Althea turned her attention to Johann and Artorias.  Approaching the pair, Althea extended her bandaged right hand for both of them to shake.  After all, her came to her as someone who would do those.  “Hiya, I’m Althea, but Thea’s alright too!”  She exclaimed.  “Let’s do our best on this, okay?”  Offering a brief but hearty grin, the girl walked towards the exit with a jaunty walk, hands held behind her back before exiting the mansion’s front lawn.  “That guy said that the thieves went to that big hole the tentacles came from~”

Without much more explanation, she broke into a moderate jog, trying to find the crater before trying to really cover distance.  It didn’t take too much effort due to how level Hargeon was and the sheer size of the hole.  And once she noticed it Althea would assume more of a run, but the thing that really changed her speed was her frequent bursts of speed, something akin to teleporting.  Of course, she used if sparingly.  At the moment, it was hard for the wizard to see while while going that quickly, and there was no need to run head first into one of the many boulders littering the landscape.

Arriving to her designated location faster than she had traveled to the mansion, the wizard crouched down, attempting to look down into the seemingly endless darkness.  Some may have considered the distance she was from it rather dangerous, her shoes just grazing the edge of the crater.  But, Althea didn’t really think twice about it, prioritizing adventure over immediate safety measures.  After a few moments of scanning it, she noticed that there was some sort of light down there.  It wasn’t too incredibly bright, but still okay enough to be seen from far up.  It probably gave off about the same light as a regular light lacrima did.  “Huh, there is something down there…”  She said before checking if she was talking solely to herself.  Realizing that very fact, she stood up, looking around for Johann.

When the man still clutching his weapon in his hand had finished his sentence Johann gave him another short bow, rising back from it to reveal the amused smirk that lifted up one corner of his mouth. "Very well, good man, if you insist, we have but no other choice than to accept, but, in that case, me and my friend would certainly prefer if you just handed us the reward", the Vice President's words already falling on deaf ears. The other had already turned and slammed the door to his home behind him, leaving the old man, the Falcon and the girl just standing there. "My lord, I don't think he heard you", Artorias commented as he shook his head. Johann sighed briefly. "Not the most mannered of people, I suppose. Can't really blame him", turning around to let his eyes wander for over the man's devastated property for a second before turning his full attention to the other mage beside him who was quick to approach and extend her hand for both the Vice President and the knight, both shaking it with a friendly, albeit cautious smile. "Of course, Miss Thea" Johann proudly started exclaiming, his eyes going over to his partner "Me and my friend here will swear, by our blades, to do our utmost on this mission to-" "My lord ..." "Yes, Artorias ?", the falcon raised his hand to point at the girl "She's already gone ahead" "... Oh", the mage of the West Fiore finding that indeed Thea had already started a jogging at moderate pace, a sprint and finally bursts of incredible speed.

Johann's eyes widened, a smile now decorating his expression"Marvelous ! A most excellent way to utilize magic. Artorias, we will not fall behind, full speed", the falcon smiling in a similar fashion for the first time since they had arrived in Hargeon. "Understood"

If there was one thing were Johann would excel it was speed, using compressed air to propel himself forward at similarly breathtaking speed to the young, blonde girl that called herself Althea, simply following her path, Artorias zapping through the air behind him in his lightning form, shifting from spot to spot in instants, both coming to a momentary stop when they apparently had reached their destination. Indeed, it was nothing short of the description given in the flyer, in essence, a gargantuan sinkhole right in the middle of Hargeon, looking bizarrely out of place. Thea, seemingly overtaken by curiosity had already found her way to the edge of the crater, Johann, too, followed closely by his partner, making his way to the edge of the abyss. "Only one way to find out what", the Vice President sensing the shadow of conflict approaching, awakening in him an almost playful excitement. There was barely a thing he enjoyed as much as a really good hunt, regardless of the prey, and with that, he simply jumped, his left eye turning black as he fell, a deeply crimson, glowing pupil in the middle, his vision piercing the darkness to spot the fast approaching ground. The same compressed air that he used to move at extreme speed now served to slow his fall, Johann landing on his feet. Artorias would easily be able to follow behind by using his teleportation abilities, and, judging from what he had seen just moments ago, he was certain the girl would have an easy time as well.

Still, Johann was somewhat surprised by what he saw before him down here, a single, large set of massive stone doors entirely covering one side of the cavernous expanse, a glowing crystal of sorts on each side. "Just what exactly is this ...", the Vice President had never heard of such a place, especially not right here in Hargeon, and he realized that this wasn't his ordinary mission, his hand slowly but surely getting closer to the rapier on his side.

Notes: This whole post isn't a hot mess
Althea jumped into the cravess right after Johann did, not wanting to miss out on anything.  I mean, whatever thieves put their goods in a place like that were probably pretty interesting.  In freefall, she let out a deep breath, a pillar of water shooting out from her onto the ground below.  It slowed the girl down enough that she could land softly onto the stony ground.  Realizing that she had done that exact move many times recently.  She was about to commit to not jumping down holes so often, but people should stop putting them there instead.  But at the last moment, she had somehow lost her sense of direction and landed upside down, head first.  She fell onto her back, rubbing her head briefly before quickly getting to her feet.  “I’m fine!”  she chirped, holding out a thumbs up.  The girl had just risked breaking her neck, but there was no reason to fuss.  Danger was a natural part of an adventurer's day, just like having to deal with hard critiques a part of a cook’s.  Speaking of cooks, she was getting hungry...

Looking around the cave for anything to catch her eye, Althea noted the bright luminescent crystals that protruded from the pale stones before she even really noticed the door.  The mage reckoned that they were the source of light she had sighted from the entry to the hole.  But, she had never seen anything that looked like them, confirming that this was unfamiliar territory.  The thought of mystery invigorated her, causing her to further investigate the cave.  But then, after Johann brought her attention to it, she finally noticed the large double doors situated right in front of her.  “Whoa, I didn't think something like this would be here!”  She said, approaching the doors, kicking them open.  She didn’t do so out of disrespect for doors, it’s just that they were ‘meant’ for being kicked.  Doors were actually pretty awesome, giving you privacy and a way to keep the outside where it belongs.

Anyways, Althea just ended up waltzed straight into the new area, which didn’t seem too different from the other one at first glance.  Sure, there was a tunnel leading deeper in and more of those weird rocks, but nothing mind boggling.  But after she took just one additional step, a strange, tall figure burst from a rock wall straight at her.  “Whaa?”  The girl somehow managed to avoid their charge with a sidestep that resembled more of a “sideleap”.  But now Althea at least was able to see what her attacker looked like, but she wasn’t sure if she preferred it that way.  It was at least triple her height with razor sharp fingernails and narrow shoulders, looming over the girl threateningly.  It also didn’t seem too friendly at all due to how it introduced itself.  Bursting through a wall doesn’t exactly scream friendship.  Narrowing her eyes in focus, the mage assumed a fighting position just as another creature came crashing through the walls from the other side.  It seemed to be the same as the last one, but that only really spelt out more of a problem for Althea.

For the meantime, the wizard decided to focus on only one, the one that had come out from the hole initially.  Jumping up into the air, she aimed a kick for the creature’s head that was swiftly blocked with a raised arm, her target dealt a slash at the wizard using its claws, managing to only rip her clothes a tad.  “Well,”  Althea said, taking a moment to glance at the damage, “That’s what I get for underestimating you, sorry!”

Watching the girl land somewhat clumsily beside the two Johann realized that she was ... not quite inside the ordinary ? She played it off, stretching out her hand and giving a thumbs up, but Johann wasn't quite so sure, and realizing that he knew basically nothing about the girl he wondered just what exactly he had gotten himself into. His skepticism, however, would be gone quickly, both he and Artorias still cautiously ogling the door when the girl, without a care in the world, approached the large, heavy stone doors and simply kicked them down. Johann's jaw dropped a bit, but he quickly regained his composure. He hadn't expected this at all, but in this world of mystery and magic, everything was possible, and who knew ? Maybe she would prove to be a valuable ally in what was to come, and Johann was sure what was to come would not be pleasant. As soon as the girl had kicked down the door, a smell came bursting from the space behind, familiar, yet never experienced so intensely, this place reeked of demonic presence.

He would follow the girl into the cavernous tunnel behind, followed closely by Artorias, both the Vice President and the Knight on edge about their surroundings, when without warning and in a sudden burst from the stone of the walls broke out a strange figure, "There we go", the old man mumbled to himself as Thea dodged the demon's attack, Johann and Artorias both drawing their swords in almost synchronized movements. Without much delay, while Althea focussed on one of them, another broke out of the stone, and Johann took it upon himself to take on this one, his left eye turning black and the red pupil in its middle starting to shine with deeply crimson colour he felt the familiar strength rush through his body, the runes on his body digging through his flesh, burning into his skin as they spread, turning his other eye black as similarly to the other.

"Artorias, make sure no one sneaks up on us", his partner nodding briefly before scanning the area with his heightened senses, Johann bursting forward at the demon in an extreme display of speed the creature seemingly not expecting such an action, unable to follow the movements of the old man. The demon, with its razor sharp claws, slashed at him, but with no effect, the claws only slashing through thin air as he came to a stop behind the demon, his hand surrounded by swirling air. With great speed and force his hand dug into his opponents back, the sheer power of the impact lifting the creature of its feet and launching it into the nearby stone wall. The thing had stopped moving, but Johann had the haunting suspicion that all of this was far from over. Almost as if his mind was being read, a roar of epic proportions shook the walls of this tunnel, and with enormous cracks a huge lizard like creature, approximately 10 meters in height, covered in black scales and bearing sharp fangs and claws, burst out of the side of the cave. "Well isn't that just great"

The ginormous beast lost no time, immediately storming at the small group, the ground below shaking with each step the demon took. Still, it seemed rather slow, maybe exactly because of its overproportionate size, and took a swing at the one who was closest, an arm like a tree trunk with huge claws at its end rushing at Johann, the VP dodging it effortlessly and with superior reflexes through a quick sidestep, the arm of the demon slamming into the stone wall behind, shaking the ground once more. Well, there was a way to deal with this mess of literally titanic size quickly, and so, the VP held up his blade, his eyes turning from their regular red to a deep, brightly shining yellow, a set of runes on the blade glowing similarly before, in an explosion of white, blinding light burst forth from the weapon, lighting up the surroundings and burning away at the demonic creature, whose form gradually lost substance until it fell apart, disintegrated, chunks of ash falling to the ground before splattering apart on the cold stone, the light retreating back to the weapon. Johann immediately turned around to see how Thea was doing, ready to help out should she require assistance.

Althea only glanced at Johann, who had taken the initiative to also fight the strange creatures, before resuming her own assault.  She was sure that he would be fine without her, and that it would be more detrimental than anything else if she bothered herself about it.  Her opponent had proved itself to not be a pushover, and Althea found that she needed to devote all of her attention to her battle.  But out of the corner of her eye, the mage took a second look at Johann, only to find herself staring for a moment at the state he was in.  She had reckoned that most people around weren’t necessarily the most normal, but the whites of the swordsman’s eyes had been replaced by a midnight black which startled Althea profusely.  But, she was brought right back into her battle when the looming creatures began its rather speedy approach.  It preformed a wide slash, but the wizard was able to nimbly avoid damaging any of her clothing any further.  After all, she didn’t want to spend the money she painstakingly earned on repairing them, that would be inconvenient.

Anyways, Althea descended right towards the creature’s “head”, fist outstretched to deal a heavy blow.  And with all her body weight behind said punch, when her attack landed the force of gravity still hadn’t pulled her down onto the ground.  So, the young girl recoiled her other hand back, thrusting it forward for an additional blow and then doing the same thing several more times.  Then, she lost her momentum and landed onto the ground, taking a few stepped back once her opponent recovered from her attacks rather quickly.  It wasted no time to aim and drill its knifelike claws into Althea, aiming vertically due to its height.  Nearly running out of time to even process the new attack, she leapt out of the way, rolling, and than getting to her feet to jump out of the way of the next incoming attack.  A few more times the blows only met cloth, but the creature did draw blood more than once.  The cycle repeated one too many times in Althea’s opinion, and the whole thing was getting tiring.  And if it kept up, she wouldn’t be able to beat it.

So, instead of rushing to leap after dodging the claws, she utilized the same technique she had before with her extreme but incredibly quick speed boost.  Moving back towards the creature, Althea avoided the lengthy claws.  Eventually, she got close enough to jump up back into the air, making sure to put plenty of power into the leap for height.  Rearing back her leg, it became enveloped in water, and than the wizard foreable kicked the bottom of the creature’s jaw, causing it to rocket into the stony ceiling.  Only the towering beast’s head was stuck within the ceiling, the rest of its body simply dangling down after it.  But, it didn’t appear like it was about to move anytime soon so Althea decided to move onto the next thing.  Turning, she checked for the other one but then found it to be defeated, not to mention another one that she hadn’t even noticed entering the fray.  Taking the time to catch her breath a bit, she looked at Johann once more before refocusing on the humongous creature.  “Wow, that sure looks weird.”  She remarked offhandedly, approaching it.  “Do you know what it is?”  She said, bending down and poking it a few times out of curiosity.

Through Hell and High Waters [Johann] Empty Re: Through Hell and High Waters [Johann]

Post by Shen Kadokawa 22nd May 2018, 8:37 am

Looking over to the blonde girl Johann was ready to step in, still glowing rapier in hand, only to see that the girl was holding herself quite well. Not only had she managed to combat the demon one on one, she had also quite easily launched the beast into the ceiling of the cavernous underground expanse. "A water mage, hm ?", the old man mumbled to himself as he was joined by his companion, Artorias, the two making their way over to Thea and the collapsed remains of the large creature. Johann had the vague feeling that this was far from over.

"I can't say for certain, but they smell familiar. Demons, most likely", he replied plainly, but with a streak of concern in his voice. A demon threat right below the city of Hargeon would be a disaster should it spread. The city had just been devastated once, and the last thing it could use would be another attack. "Artorias. Althea. We have to find the source of this, lest this demonic scourge threaten the people of Hargeon. Also" he glanced over at the blonde water mage "we still haven't a trace of the item, so I suggest that we keep going"

With that, Johann started moving once again, this time venturing deeper into the cavern than before. Their surroundings were dimly lit by arrays of ice blue, shining crystal, the light reflecting from the grey stone walls around them. Johann, with his eyes, could see through the twilight, hear the shifting of the bodies. They were being watched, followed, dark figures, shadows zapping through the dark, a pair of glowing eyes peeking from behind a rock before retreating, and whispers. At first it was just a few, but more voices joined in, increasing to a dozen, a few dozen, until it were at least a hundred if not more. It threw the Vice President, who relied on his heightened senses to be able to orientate in this darkness, off more than just a bit. One hand raised to his ear, and with his eyes closed he stopped. This would certainly give him a headache later, and with all the noise in his head he couldn't focus. He had a hard time keeping up with his surroundings until suddenly, the voices stopped. He opened his eyes. Nothing, their surroundings were silent, until, in a sudden and loud crash, from the side of a large stone wall burst forth more of the creatures, Johann spotted 5. 2 of the gigantic ones, 2 smaller ones, and another, even smaller demon.

"Artorias !", the falcon knew the drill, even without the other giving the command "Understood". Beneath Johann's, Artorias' and Althea's feet bright, yellow magic circles would appear, strengthening their magic power, infuse it with crackling, brightly flaring lightning. They'd have to fight some more, but Johann was ready, rapier in hand, he launched himself forward once again at extreme speeds, the air around him cracking as the enormous, loud boom of the sound barrier breaking echoed through the underground halls, his rapier sinking into the side of one of the enormous, lizard like ones, the demon roaring out in pain before starting to flail around wildly, Johann having trouble to even keep his hand on his blade before pulling it out, a stream of dark, purple blood spewing forth from the wound as he retreated back to the ground. This would prove to be a most difficult endeavour, indeed.

    No notes today~
Althea leaned in closer to the carcass to inspect it once the older mage had revealed its identity, becoming more intrigued than cautious.  “Wow, a demon?  I’ve never actually seen a real one up close…”  It wasn’t like she liked the creatures or anything, she just found them to be intriguing.  Not too many creatures had such a unique makeup and possessed such an inherently dark nature, but surprisingly not one of the oddest things the young girl had seen.  Finished with her examination, she stood up, following her gray haired companion and his assistant deeper into the tunnels.

After only moments of venturing onwards, Althea noticed that Johann was not focused on the path ahead but instead the elevated ceiling of the cave.  Following his gaze, the slayer tried to see what was so eye catching about it, at first not seeing anything particularly out of the ordinary.  Losing interest quickly, she proceeded to instead investigate the luminescent crystals.  But almost as soon as she had looked away from the ceiling, an array of sounds began echoing directly into Althea’s mind, much to her annoyance.  If someone was going to be telepathic, couldn’t they first learn how to actually speak up so that they could be heard and not mutter under their breath.  But then the sound intensified, allowing the mage to realize it wasn’t just some weird mumbling noise but instead a mass of voices, whispering into her mind.  Suddenly, Johann stopped walking, apparently hearing the voices as well.  Welp, at least I know I’m not out of it or something along those lines...  She thought, wondering how she would react if she were doing this mission by herself.

Returning her gaze back to the ceiling, Althea was then able to spot what was holding sword wielding elder’s attention so firmly.  Dozens -- maybe even hundreds -- of demons were all up there, hollow eyes seemingly staring right through her, not exactly the best sensation for Althea.  Then, more of then came crashing through the stone, some similar to ones fought previously and one new one.  Although her thinking was disturbed by the constant murmurs and harsh whispers, Althea was able to reason that she should most likely aim for the biggest target, the tallest demon, first.  But first she was imbued with some sort of enhancement magic from Artorias, which she thanked him for with a swift nod of acknowledgement.  Then, she was off.

Practically rocketing herself at the tallest demon, one with shiny, pitch black skin, she connected a punch to the side of its face.  Before it had time to recover, Althea spun around midair, putting her body weight into kick dealt again to the head.  Landing onto the ground, the mage watched the large demon stumble about for a moment, about to leap upwards to damage it further.  But then another slightly shorter demon attacked from behind, one that the slayer soon identified as the same clawed kind of creature she had fought before.  Due to the nature of the attack, the demon was able to draw much a fair amount of blood from a cut that was long but didn’t cut too deep.  Whipping around to meet the new opponent, Althea ran at in in a straight line, uppercutting it right in the bottom of the jaw.  But by then the fleshy demon had recovered from previous attacks and had its small beady eyes set on Althea, club-like arms held in fists.  Noticing this, the mage jumped right onto the clawed demon’s head, able to avoid all attempts from it to remove her.  While that demon was preoccupied, the other was slightly confused and very impatient, so it decided to attack the young girl, even if it meant friendly fire.  Striking the shorter demon right on top or their head, the clawed demon seemed to lose consciousness.  Launching from the decapacitated creature, Althea dealt a punch for the middle of the brutish demon’s face, the last one needed to defeat the fleshy creature.

Through Hell and High Waters [Johann] Empty Re: Through Hell and High Waters [Johann]

Post by Shen Kadokawa 6th June 2018, 4:18 am

A quick gaze over his shoulder revealed that Althea seemed to be able to hold her own in combat rather well, something Johann had, in all honesty and in antithesis to her outward appearance, not expected from the young, blonde girl. Still, it was impressive to see how she was handling the creatures in hand to hand combat, and Johann didn't want to fall behind even one bit. The old man sheathed his rapier, the blade giving off a characteristic metallic sound as it slid along the inside of the leather container, the hilt of the weapon firmly sitting atop, the Vice Presidents' hands free. Truth was he preferred fighting with his own two hands, but a rapier was so much cleaner, so much more efficient. From now on things would get a little more up close and personal.

"Artorias, cover our backs !" he shouted out to his avian companion, who simply gave a nod before turning into his lightning form and zapping through the air towards one of the demons behind. Truly, the 3 mages were surrounded by a multitude of monsters, a barrage of beasts, so to say, surrounded on all sides by demonic entities lusting for their blood and flesh. But they had made their calculations without the Vice President of the West Fiore Trading Company, who in turn was overtaken by his own demonic instincts, the deeply crimson hues of his eyes slowly changing to an amethyst amaranthine colour. Just one more demon among many.

A black and swirling stormwind, purple streaks intertwined with black smoke, emanated from his right arm as the left one lit up with cold flame, and thus, both extremities covered in their respective element, Johann exploded once more with a burst of extreme speed, accelerating in less than the blink of an eye to velocities incomprehensible by most, his burning fist slamming into the side of a gargantuan demon with the full kinetic force of his momentum. From the beast came a loud scream of agony as it tumbled to the side, the soaring flame he released, small sparks of lightning embedded within, engulfing one side of the monstrosity entirely before it fell over, broke down and all motion ceased.

Johann came to a complete halt beside the now defeated creature when the whispers in his head returned. Clear as day, hundreds upon hundreds of voices spoke out to him tales of darkness, and orchestra of maddening sounds. Tempted to drop to his knees the old man tumbled, but managed to just hold himself against the storm of voices. Still, his senses were distracted, his mind in disarray, and so he missed the, for demonic standards, small demon approaching from behind until it was too late. Within a moment, the whispers and voices stopped, and Johann took a deep breath of relief when a sharp, burning pain filled the left side of his body entirely, a blade bursting from this side of his chest with a disturbing and loud crack, a small stream of blood dropping from the Vice President's mouth and the tip of the sword. The sinisterly grinning figure behind seemed to enjoy itself greatly, proclaiming its amusement with a deep, malicious cackle that echoed through the cavernous underground space around before pulling the blade out of Johann's chest, who fell forward, impacting on the dark stone ground beneath with a dull thud.

A few moments passed and the demon already seemed to have lost interest, turning around to leave the seemingly dying old man to his fate when Johann lifted himself back up, his white uniform torn where the blade had struck, crimson red around a hole in the clothing revealing the perfectly normal skin beneath, the critical wound from before nowhere to be seen. "I cannot go on a single mission ..." Johann mumbled to himself as he lifted his head, the soaring stormwind around his right arm flaring back up again "... without someone COMPLETELY ruining my UNIFORM", bursting towards the startled demon without delay while his booming voice still echoed back from the walls. His fist, with enormous force, embedded itself into the startled demons torso and launched the creature off its feet and back into a massive stone wall, cracking the solid rock before it fell, hitting the same ground Johann had found himself on before, motionless. The Vice President couldn't help but sigh loudly while inspecting the bloody holes in his clothing on both back and chest, whispering to himself more than anyone else "Great, another one I gotta get fixed ...".

    You're break was completely fine, so don't sweat it!  But now it's my time to apologise for taking so long with this post, school assignments really got me. ;o;
    Spells Used - Water Dragon’s Crest [C+]
Althea had found herself looking around at all of the surrounding demons approaching the 3 wizards like an incurable plague.  But with the increasing amount of enemies, she was able to take note that Artorias utilized lightning magic of some kind which explained the lingering enchantment from earlier.  Meanwhile Johann’s magic still eluded her and midbattle she always found herself looking backwards at him to see any kind of confirmation of what it might be.  He used fire and lightning, was extremely light on his feet, and he could utilize his rapier along with his fists.  She wondered if there was anything Johann couldn’t wield masterfully.  Whether or not it was connected to his ever changing eye color was a mystery of its own, along with their true nature.  But eventually Althea gave up on working through anything due to the hushed whispers quickly invading her thoughts.

The sound clearly aggravated the girl more than it disturbed her, the slayer’s narrowed blue gaze glaring at the cavern’s ceiling.  Soon, a bandaged right hand would find its way to its respective ear, the other held balled into a fist at Althea’s side.  Maybe she would’ve been even more bothered or maybe even scrambled if they were doing anything other than whispering.  She simply found the constant shiming of voices annoying and nothing else.  And either way, part of her training to become the water mage she was consisted of several intense mental exercises, so even the thundering anthem didn’t affect her all too much.  It was simply inconvenient to attempt thought when a series of assorted voices are within your mind, and although it wouldn’t appear so immediately, Althea needed to think to fight.  Sighing, she just reckoned she’d simply have to engage in combat through the disturbances, spotting a demon close enough to travel towards in one swift motion and nearly doing so until a deathening crack echoed through the rocky enclosure.

Turning around, Althea’s eyes widened at the sight of a sword cleanly impaled straight through Johann’s side by a tall, robed figure.  Immediately, any annoyance from the whispering was forgotten in favor of this new, shorter creature.  She nearly pursued him, but suddenly Johann got up, wound apparently healed perfectly as if there hadn’t been one in the first place.  Rather stunned, the slayer simply stood there for several moments with a stunned expression, trying to reason what exactly had occured.  But eventually the shock faded, replaced with some degree of amusement.  And if Althea enjoyed laughing at all she probably would’ve that point.  But clearly the demon who had done the deed found none of the situation inherently humorous.

“How did you survive?”  An array of voices said in unison, much to Althea’s surprise.  “No matter, you must be here for the item, correct?”  It laughed maniacally before continuing as if the very thought of the trio retrieving it was comedic.  “Leave and get the living water.”  It said, using it’s blade to point to a nearby stream of glowing water.  “Or stay and die.  Only one chance, fools.”

Althea took several steps forwards as response, “No thanks!  We’ll get it on our way out!”  She stretched, noticing the other demons had practically paused their approach.  “Oh?  You’re so weak I didn’t realize you were here, girl!”  It said, causing Althea to simply shrug, not bothering with some demon’s comments about her strength.  She would develop as slowly as she wished to, it was all about the journey not the destination.  But as soon as the demonic creature had extended a gnarled hand and beckoned the girl to fight, she rushed straight at him.

The attack was rather obvious, a punch aimed straight for the swordsman, but it was mostly just to start things off.  The robed demon blocked it with his odd sword and then took a step back to bring the sword straight through Althea, although she then narrowly dodged the attack with a subtle rotation of her body.  Swinging around to face her opponent squarely, she used the momentum to launch a kick at the creature’s side.  But it simply blocked the attack with its forearm, using the other to bring the blade above its head in an attempt to cleave the water mage in two.  But Althea managed to hop backwards in time, taking a few seconds to construct a rudimentary plan.  It wasn’t really anything due to the ever whispering voices throwing her off, but it would at least damage the demon.  She sprinted towards it, the robed creature bringing its sword before itself to use as a barrier for any incoming attack.  But then Althea sped up exponentially, practically teleporting into the air behind the demon.  Before it reacted, she slashed at the air, creating a kind of shockwave of water that managed to make contact with the blade wielding creature, black blood oozing from the wound.

Grinning, she was about to perform some sort of follow up move when she realized she couldn’t move, simply collapsing onto the ground.  Althea sighed, reckoning that over time she had been straining her magical power too far in order to fight the waves of demons, especially for her last attack.  Seeing as her body just shut down all functions besides the necessary ones during times like those, Althea couldn’t do a single thing.  It was her fault that she did it to herself knowing full well what could happen, but that didn’t stop her from being annoyed.  “Dumb body, always stopping at the worst times…”  She muttered under her breath until realizing Johann and Artorias were still within the cave with her.  “Erm, I’ll be fine!  It’s just me, give me a second.”

Through Hell and High Waters [Johann] Empty Re: Through Hell and High Waters [Johann]

Post by Shen Kadokawa 14th June 2018, 9:51 am

The old man simply stood there, stretching a bit and wiping away the little stream of blood from the corner of his mouth as the robed figure before them started to speak out, a barrage of voices speaking in unison to proclaim their twisted agenda before the small group of mages. "Stay and die ? No thanks, I still have a lot of work to do for the Company. Also ..." Johann, who was joined by Artorias when the falcon knight appeared by his side in a subtle flash of lightning, shouted out "... shouldn't make fun of someone's strength when you're the one who's gonna get his ass kicked". In the thrill of this fight the Vice President's personality had completely changed, shifting from the polite and friendly appearance of a Trading Company member to his true, emotional self. Frankly, the blood soaked uniform and being impaled didn't really help calm him down, at all, quite the contrary as one would imagine. Althea wasn't quite so "patient" with the demonic entity, however, rushing at the dark abomination beckoning her closer with one one hand.

Johann stood still, the two red orbs following every move of the ensuing clash, the ever present demonic whispers not really helping his concentration, though. Still, he managed to detach his attention from it, focussing instead on the fight before him. For a good bit of the engagement it looked like the demon had the upper hand until Althea suddenly burst around it in a sudden surge of extreme speed, a tactic that Johann knew all too well, and attacked it with a slash of water, scoring a direct hit on the creature, but not without going down herself ... ? "Huh ?" Johann raised his eyebrows, unsure what to make of it, but immediately drew his rapier, suspecting a foul trick by the demon, his eyes going over to the creature that ... seemed equally surprised and startled by the unexpected turn of events ? That was until Althea started turning towards him and the knight.

"Uhhhm, you sure ? Sigh ... guess I'll take over here, then" Johann laughed to himself with a streak of confusion in his voice "Artorias, try and help her out, I'll take down the demon.", he hastily uttered to his companion who made a face as if he flat out wanted to refuse before giving it a second thought, responding "Will you be able to deal with it alone, my lord ?", a fragment of sorrow in Artorias' tone "I'll use it." "Are you sure, my lord ?" "Yes." "Understood ... good luck". The falcon knight gave the VP a hasted bow before rushing over to Althea, scooping her up and getting the hell out of dodge, zapping away from the demon at lightning speed. He knew that what would come next could very well damage them both if they remained where they were, and seeing that Thea couldn't really move her body to much he saw no alternative. "Honestly, though, what's up with this clumsy girl ?" the Vice President thought to himself as he stepped up to the demon, sword firmly clutched in his right hand, staring at his opponent "All right, looks like I'll be the one who gets to take you out. You don't look too tough, but I see you can use a sword. Maybe this'll be fun", the demon cackling with a cascade of voices following, the same sound over and over, presented by a demonic choir. Johann was rather annoyed. "Ha ! You ? Take me out ? An old man ? You will never retrieve the item !", Johann simply shrugging in response "Right, right. The item. Yeah, I do want to have that back sooo ... Shall we get going then ?" Johann lifted up his blade, the tip pointed at his demonic adversary.

"As if a weak little human like you could ever-" his voice abruptly interrupted by a chanting, a voice that echoed through the underground expanse, a language and voice of otherworldly nature leaving the old man's mouth as both the runes on his body and on the rapier lit up in a deep, dark amethyst colour, black energy coalescing at the blades tip "O Sol noctis atrae, lumen profanus, infinita cupiditas exitium, invico te potestam et tu iubes: emittam irae tuae !", a black and purple, laser beam like ray of dark energy exploding from the weapon and towards the demon at breathtaking speed, the creature barely managing to raise up his sword in an attempt to block the attack, the ground shaking as the stream of darkness impacted, sparks of ebony magic energy flying off to all sides, dissolving the stone where the energy streaked across the ground and walls.

After a couple seconds the blast of energy died down, the demon standing relatively unscathed having received minor damage, but his blade completely unusable, the blade looking as if it had been sitting in a pool of acid, the creature throwing it to the side with a disgruntled groan "No matter, even without it, I'm stronger than you !", gritting the sharp claws against each other before bursting forward with inhuman velocity. "If that's how you wanna play ...", the Vice President sheathed the rapier once more, spreading his own hands, long, skeletal claws of silver colour forming over his fingers, Johann bursting forward with similar speed, sparks flying as their clawed hands met, the two of them pushing against the other, their eyes meeting as both grinned at each other sinisterly. Johann opened his mouth, the same voice from before echoing from it, a voice different to that of the VP entirely "Don't you knooow that when a lord of your kind stands before youuu ...", knocking one of the creatures arms away with a powerful strike of his clawed hand "... that you're supposed to KNEEL !", slamming his elbow down onto the entities head with a resounding crack, the demon sinking to the ground, Johann's other hand rushing to his neck, lifting it up, holding it before him with his left, a swirl of circulating wind rushing to his right fist before he sunk it into the demon's chest, sending it flying with an enormous sonic boom, it's impact into one of the massive stone walls quaking the entirety of the cavern, the solid rock surface cracking as the voices all around ceased. Johann's glowing, amaranth coloured eyes looked up and around, staring at the empty ceiling before turning, looking for any trace of demon he could find, but to no avail. All of them were gone. He whipped around, staring at the spot where their supposed leader hit the wall. Gone. The black colour retreated from his eyes, the glow vanished, and with heavy breath, he sank down to one knee. "Most mysterious, indeed".

One thing he was sure of: There was a lot not right about this place, they had to grab the item and get the hell out of here, and possibly seal the entrance behind them ... and oh, while they were at it, grab some of that water the demon was talking about. Seemed like that was special in a way, so might as well. With that, the old man stood up, made his way over to a stone pillar with a small, wooden box on top, grabbed it and made his way back to the other two, the unsettling feeling of being watched still lingering about this place. "Althea ! Artorias ! Are you two alright ? I got the item !"
