After receiving the job from Rina, Nessa headed home and packed a quick bag for the trip. Wasting no time, she said a quick goodbye to her family and shot off in a carriage for Mt. Hakobe with Sebastian and Arielle. It wasn't the clearest of instruction, a small accident on Rina's part. But from what she could make out, these people were in danger. It was her job to help them and defeat whatever it was that was causing them suffering. It was the kind of job she strived for, the opportunity to save people. It was the reason she became a mage and why she hadn't given up by now. She arrived in the outskirts of Mt. Hakobe, paying the carriage driver. She began her trek, using her spell Starlight Guide to lead the way. Instructing the magic to find the writer of the letter. The star floated happily in front of her Arielle sat in her bag and Sebastian trotted along beside her, the journey was long and strenuously and it almost seemed like they were getting no where.
It was only when Nessa started to notice something strange about the landscape did she realise they were getting closer to their destination. The areas of landed that should be green were noticeable burnt and trampled, the rocks were slapped with flecks of what appeared to be tar. She felt tense when she saw it, this wasn't going to be like anything she'd seen before that she could already tell. After hours of walking, she arrived at a little mountain village. She had heard about tribes that lives in the mountain, wanting to be secluded and more at one with nature. People like this were usual strong but a little less modern in their ways. However this wasn't what she had expected, what she could imagine had been beautiful constructed hut, was now a broken building. The roof of which had been crush into and the word very charred. The ground was burnt and black and there looked almost as if there was no survivors. She walked through the village, most of the house were smashed in. The ones that weren't were abandoned, and some had been desecrated completely. It was a sorry sight.
"Not the work of Man." Arielle said solemnly from her bag, he pushed himself out and began to fly towards the burnt homes. He sniffed the air around it, and placed a hand on the burnt would. Closing his eyes, Sebastian and Nessa watched on. His teal eyes shot open and he darted back, hissing. He looked at Nessa, his expression grave. "Incendi." She frowned, she wasn't family with the word, but it must have been the one used to name the creature that did this.
"Who are you?" The voice came from behind her, Nessa spun around to face a young girl. She was shorter than Nessa, a few years younger to. Her entire body was covered in soot and dirt. The Starlight guide was floating playfully above her head. Nessa looked at it as it faded having done it's job, before looking back at the girl.
"Ema Rose?" She asked, reaching slowly into her bag and pulling out the letter. The girls wary eyes darted to it, and as Nessa handed it over, her body slowly relaxed. Her face filled with relief.
"You came!" She said, tears almost filling her eyes. Nessa smiled at her softly, nodding, she looked around.
"Is it just you?" She asked, Ema shook her head.
"We have a hide out under the ground, it's the only place that's safe. But we can't hide much longer, our young grow hungry and foraging is a danger. The flame beast, he comes and...he .." Ema began to cry, Nessa stepped forward and wrapped her arms around the girl. Allowing her to cry on her shoulder.
"Miss." Arielle spoke, drawing her attention, he was looking off into the forest. "It comes, the Incendi." Nessa let go of the girl.
"Sebastian, Arielle, guard Ema." She told him, the exceed stepped up to the girl.
"Follow me Mi'lady, we're not gonna want to be too close for this." He told her in his usually friendly tone, she looked at him in shock but followed him regardless, Arielle flew behind him, they stepped over to a set of trees. Nessa waited, taking a breathe she summoned the magic within her. It came forward, expanding through her body, flowing through her arm. Her palm began to glow, and grew longer until it bore the shape of a sword. She saw the creature as it marched into her sight. It was over nine feet tall, it's body was thick. It looked like boulders stacked on top on one enough and between the crack it glowed red. Lava poured out of it like sweat, leaving a burning trail behind it. She raised her sword, stepping into a stance. Taking a cool steady breath before she propelled herself forward. Running at full speed, she raised her sword behind her. The beast spotted her and growled threateningly. Opening it's wide rocky mouth, like projecting vomit lava spat out of it. She quickly dodged to the right, the burning liquid barely missing her.
She darted forward, slicing her blade across the creatures knees, creating a deep gash. Lava burst out of the gap, pooling down the creature's leg. Luckily her sword was made of magic, any metal would've melted under such heat. But she had the light of a burning star on her side. Adjusted her footwork, she shifted back and forth. Going for another slice, this time across the chest. As the swords struck the creature, flecks of lava spat out over her, burning he skin. She jumped back wincing in pain, she needed to finish this quickly. Close combat would only result in her getting hurt more. She changed her tactic, moving back, she allowed Starlight sword, pushing out her palms, she created a net with her magic. Sending it forward, she used it to pin the creature to the ground. Then when he was change, she summoned Starlight Orbs. Balls of star magic appearing around her, she charged them at the beast, an endless onslaught of magic smashing into it. Pummelling it into the ground. She felt the strain on her body, she was using a lot of magic, but it was necessary. This creature had no mind, it's only setting was kill. These poor people had suffered enough. Finally, she stopped the onslaught of attack, and stepped over to the beast. The light was fading from it, but it was still alive. Using the remainder of her magic, so created a spear. Positioning herself over the creature's head, she drove the spear downwards into it's skull. Killing it once and for all.
She stood there panting for a moment, before looking up to see the others running towards her. She smiled at them, as Ema approached her eyes met Nessa's, she glanced from the beast back to her before saying two simple words. "Thank you."
