we are the keepers of their destiny
Is it any wonder why princes and kings are clowns that caper in their sawdust rings?

"How doth the little crocodile
Improve his shining tail
And pour the waters of the Nile
On every golden scale
How cheerfully he seems to grin
How neatly spreads his claws
And welcomes little fishes in
With gently smiling jaws!"

How neatly spreads his claws

"Ah, such beautiful deception!" Anastasia breathed delightfully, bringing a hand upwards to grasp the cloth that draped over her chest. Sometimes imagining herself in such compromising situations excited her to her very core. Others might find it strange, in fact, it was likely that most did, but to her none of that mattered. It actually made it that much more enjoyable. She had been called a freak for most of her young life, but she couldn't stop herself from enjoying it. A masochist, they called her. What a truly fitting name. Just the way the word rolled off the tongue was absolutely lovely. "I simply must read more!" Flipping through the pages of her book of poems, she walked lazily along, enjoying the gentle breeze as it caressed her skin. It was one of the few days that she had where she could do nothing but read and fantasize, and she was taking advantage of it to it's fullest.
That was, until something unexpected happened.
Just as her left foot made contact with the ground, something tore through it, reaching upwards to wrap itself around her leg. Lavender eyes widened in surprise, staring with interest at the thing that had grasped her so forwardly. It was a shadowy, demonic looking claw. Not something that you see everyday, now was it? "O-Oh my!" Anastasia managed to cry out just before the ground began to open wider, almost as if it were opening it's gaping jaws to swallow her whole. And so it did. The claw began to tug forcefully, bringing the silver haired woman deeper into the depths. Almost as quickly as it had opened, the ground mended, devouring it's prey in a flash.
Everything had gone dark, as if all light had been drained from the area. Perhaps it was because she was beneath the earth now. What an exciting thought that was! Where she was being taken, she was not sure, but somehow that just made things even more interesting. What had seemed like seconds later, that very question was answered. With a thud, Anastasia landed on the cold, hard floor. Well, it wasn't really cold. The longer she laid on it, actually, the hotter it had become. Pushing herself upwards, she let out a small groan, her muscles aching deliciously as she did so. It wasn't dark anymore. No, it was quite the opposite now. Flames flickered menacingly nearby, illuminating the area in a pale, orange glow. It would seem now that she wasn't alone. Violet hues flicked from left to right, observing their surroundings with caution. There were many people, but they were divided, and she just happened to be in the middle of it.
"Hello there, my dear! Welcome to our little corner of the world! Are you here to help us?"
A dainty voice took her off guard, causing her to swing around to confront whomever it was. The two, young women that stood before her were quite surprising. Did they belong in a place like this? "I'm sorry, but I do not believe that I was brought here at my own free will. Why would I be here to help?" Anastasia clipped, eyebrow raising in interest. The girl with the blue hair waved her hand about, almost as if she were dismissing the woman. "We shall save that for later! For now, we must wait for Σκιά to return with another human. Hopefully this time he won't be as rough as he was with you. Our apologies!"
Σκιά... That must have been the name of that claw that had grabbed her earlier. A lovely name.
"Yes! We wait!"
