Re: Reforging the Shattered
My head was filled with emptiness. I groaned. Nothing hurt. That was good. I forced my eyes open, slowly. I realized I was laying in a bed, nearly naked under the unfamiliar sheets. I felt strangely exhausted. I tiredly looked at the ceiling of the room I was in - it was as equally unfamiliar as the bed I was in. How did I get here? Why am I here? My heart raced as I asked myself an another question, which made the previous ones seem trivial - Who am I?
I searched my mind for an answer, but I couldn't find one. Not only my name, but the previous life of mine was gone aswell. With the increasing amount of questions that started to fill my mind I started to grow fearful and confused. How? When? Why? Where? ...Who? My body felt sluggish as I attempted to sit up. When I was seated, looked around, taking in the new surroundings. The room was rather simple: the bed with a nightstand, a blue carpet on the side of the bed, a small set of drawers, a desk with a chair. There was a window that was covered by a cloth, blocking the view outside, but I could see that it was most likely night, as there was no light coming from underneath the cloth. I suddenly felt cold, as the cool air that was in the room tickled my skin. I pulled on the sheets to wrap them around myself.
I didn't know what I was supposed to do. Yell? Try to look around for my clothes? I wasn't sure if my legs would even be able to carry me or listen to me at all. Luckily for me, the room's door quietly opened. Whoever was behind them wanted to make to not wake me up. An elderly woman clad in a robe and an apron stepped inside and gasped, seeing me up and awake. She was holding a cup of water, most likely intended for me. "How are you feeling, dear? You have been out for a while now." She said as she came closer and handed me the cup. I haven't even realized my thirst and hunger and gladly quenched my throat. "I feel... tired." I said with a strained and raspy voice. I truly must have been out for a while, if my voice felt like this. "Understandably so, my boy." The lady agreed. "How long have I been sleeping? And where am I?" The lady nodded. "You have been sleeping for about a week, at least since we have found you. And you are in the inn that my family runs as a family business in a tiny town." She answered me and I was thankful for every bit of information I could get. But I had to ask something else. "Who am I?" I asked her, my voice barely just above a whisper. The lady's expression went dark. "You don't know? We were hoping that you would tell us." Oh. I shouldn't have expected her to know my name, but I was sad and afraid nonetheless. "We found two things beside you, though." The lady said as she walked up to the drawers, opening the top one. She pulled out a leather-bound notebook and a strange artifact that was attached to a chain. "We assumed that they belonged to you." The lady placed both items on the bed. My curiosity was greater than the coldness I felt when I let go of the sheets. I took the artifact in hand. It was golden in colour with an eye-like symbol in what I supposed was the front. It was shaped like a reverse pyramid, if that was the right word. If they found it next to me, it was most likely tied to me and my past. After the brief examination of the artifact I put it back down on the bed. I reached out for the notebook, hoping to find notes from myself. Sadly, as I flipped through the pages I saw that all of them were empty. As if I had just bought a fresh new notebook to call my own, right before I lost my memories. A joke played on myself. I was about to set the notebook on the bed, when I noticed a fine writing in the bottom right corner of the last page. There were only two written there, that made my heart skip.
