Kaori was in the armory for the castle preparing her gear for a special trip. Lately, she'd been spending quite a bit of time in the library reading books about mythology, legends, crytids, and fairy tales. While most were garbage, or so illogically stupid that even remedial people wouldn't believe them; some were note worthy. Her reason for reading them was that she was looking for a specific item. History books always documented people and trinkets they have, but mythology and fairy tales always represent items as being objects of power- even if they're not. So, when one is looking for a mundane item that looks interesting they can count on the ignorance of their ancestors to show it to her.
Kaori was getting ready to give up when she'd heard one of the castle's residents, a member of the mage clan talking about how random things were being uncovered by the desert winds. She knew that people normally traveled through deserts when transporting items across land masses, so there was a chance that she'd be able to find what she was looking for. Even if she didn't find it, she'd be able to find something of value to help repay a debt she'd incurred to a former member of Gisen's clan. In the armory, Kaori looked at the shining blade of her katana to make sure that it hadn't become rusted or warped. She inspected her shuriken, kunai, senbon, and tool belt to make sure all of them were in good condition. The shuriken were rested on a set of hooks on the right side of her tool belt. The hooks were angled so the throwing knives wouldn't fall off from slight movements. Her senbon were slid under a small cuff on her left, lower arm. The shuriken were set in a small pouch that held the set of three on the back-left of her tool belt, and her katana was worn under her sash at an angle. To complete her gear, Kaori took six minor explosives from the clan's armory and stuffed them in her tool belt. She also took a set of mana crystals, flash crystals, smoke balls, and shockwave bombs. On her way out, she took a pair of high explosives and her bow to her bike and stowed them in the arms compartment.
While checking over the motorcycle, Kaori began mumbling to herself about how Lady Ceostra was constantly making her take a partner for these sorts of missions. Her muttering was muffled by the cat-like mask she wore, but could still be heard by those nearby. Once she'd installed the second fusion core in the bike, Kaori stood up and let out a sigh. She placed her hands on her hips and announced "Lady Ceostra needs someone to come with me to the desert. We'll probably die, but there's a chance of finding something valuable. Anyone volunteers?" Her tone was firm, as though she had no qualms with the possibility of death. At the same time, she sounded like she had no worries for danger, that her own skill was enough to get by. Kaori would wait for a reply in hopes that she doesn't have to go alone, and possibly anger her gracious hostess.
