For the final job of the day, Vincent decided to assist a fellow scientist in advancing her research. According to her job request, there is some unique plant in the forest neighboring the Beanstalk Village that is hospitalizing those that call the village their home. Her request was for the destruction of the plants as well as a sample. Vincent arrived at the Beanstalk Village as the sun was going down, and, upon receiving directions from some of the helpful residents, he found himself in the herbalist’s lab. ”What do you need? I’m a bit busy here.” she said without even turning to look at him. ”I’m here about the job request?” he said, bringing up the job request page to eye level and putting out in front of him. Upon hearing an unfamiliar voice, the scientist shot up and turned around. ”Sorry about that. I’ve been under a bit of pressure with researching that plant I mentioned in my request. Luckily, or unluckily depending on how you see it, one of the victims of the plant had pieces of it in his hand when he was sent to the hospital. I’ve been studying that sample until now. I’d love to chat some more, but I’m a bit busy. You know what to do.”
Vincent nodded and left the lab, heading straight for the forest to look for the plants in question. The woods were dark due to the thick canopy, but it was still bright enough for Vincent to make his way through. As he walked, he reached his hand out and summoned his Staff of Blazes so that he would be prepared for the organic extermination. Before long, he came across two tiny, purple leafed plants. These plants are unlike everything else in the forest which sported a green color, so Vincent concluded that these must be the plants in question.
First, the samples he thought, knowing that there would be no samples left after what he was about to do with them. Without much thought, he walked up to the purple plants, bent over, and picked the leaves off of the two tiny plants. Oof! They do sting pretty bad! he thought, putting the handful of leaves into his pocket. He figured that they aren’t hospitalizing him due to the fact that he’s trained as a mage and is thus hardier than the average village resident. Still, the fact that just touching the plant was enough to hurt him – even if the stinging wasn’t too extremely painful, had him wondering about the unsuspecting villagers without the same training stumbling upon such a herb. I might as well get this over with he thought before raising his staff, pointing the end of it towards the two tiny painful plants.
Without charging, he fired off a fireball and destroyed one of the two plants. He walked forward to finish off what he was asked to do and slammed the butt of his staff into the tiny plant, setting it on fire and eventually turning it to ash. The fire began to spread around the forest. That should kill the rest of these terrible plants he thought, walking back to the village and back to the lab. Alice was still hard at work and turned to look at him as he quickly placed the samples on a table. ”Excellent. Here’s your payment” she said, handing him a bag of jewels and carefully handling the leaf samples with forceps into a plastic dish. With that, Vincent figured he’d head back to his guild hall for a long and deserved rest – all while the forest fire raged behind him with villagers rushing to control it.
